It was clean and accessible in a wheelchair.
Lack of shower seat in accessible bathroom
The property was lovely, and the bathroom in the room was absolutely great. Also everything was very clean.
The room itself was not great, we were in one of the old rooms, no A/C on a very hot day, there were three fans in the room but that was not enough. The breakfast was not as plentiful as you would find in a chain hotel and the quality was just ok. For the price difference to the Holiday Inn or Delta you’d expect far better quality.
The location was perfect for us and the staff were amazing
The old and the new of the property was perfect and blended together beautifully
Rooms lovely and breakfast great
Everything
A shabby fridge no minibar at that price and aslo the fans the room was extremely hot but either then perfect
Suited us and area we wanted to visit. University campus site interesting. Was quiet and comfortable. Staff were good.
Liked it all.
Everything
The hotel is in lovely grounds and the rooms themselves are clean and have good facilities. The reception staff were very helpful.
The breakfast is pretty basic compared to the price point.
Room and staff
Room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful
The staff couldn't be more helpful and were very hospitable. The hotel itself is glorious and even though I was there for work, I'd love to stay again for pleasure.
Very nice hotel with interesting WW2 history well presented. Nice restaurant food. A little remote, out of town on a Uni campus - but that's a bonus if you want a quiet night. Not so good for exploring Colchester.
Nothing - it was a great stay for me.
Huge room Beautiful furniture and decor
Staff were really friendly and the hotel was really nice

As normal I messaged the hotel a few days before check in to enquire as to the fee charged for my dog - the hotel replied back with the info that I could not have a dog in the standard room I had chosen and would need to pay an upgrade fee for a dog friendly room as well as a rather high dog fee. This was not obviously stated on the booking page and was not mentioned in the confirmation email. An just about affordable stay become completely unaffordable. I am fed up with hotels adding extras that shouldn't be added. If you say you are a pet friendly hotel please stop ripping of customers with additional fees and not-optional room upgrades. I believe it was going to be an extra £40 per night adding nearly £80 to the cost of our stay. A phone call from the hotel then promised to discus the price and offer us a lower price but why should they not just offer a fair price from the start. What i had hoped with be a relaxing stay as a treat whilst visiting family became something we we soon priced out of. And due to the late date I was given this information I really struggled to find alternative accommodation for my self, my partner and our dog - ensuring I had to pay more money for my two night stay in Essex. A stay we could not cancel as we were spending time with family after a recent bereavement - now with the added stress and expense of finding alternative accommodation. I had hoped we had found a hotel in the Colchester area that would enhance our stay in Essex. I was very wrong. Avoid at all costs if you value customer service, transparent fees and value for money.
Good Food, we had dinner and breakfast.
Stayed in the Old building. Just unbearably hot even though we had 3 fans!
Lovely position, exceptional staff and very good food
Our bedroom was in the main house and was beautiful and spacious but very hot. There were fans in the room but the windows only opened a few inches so there was very little air coming in.
Such an amazing hotel! We were lucky to have booked one of the rooms with a balcony. It was so high end quality. Very comfortable. It is in an unusual location in the middle of Essex university campus but it was extremely quiet and peaceful.
Nothing!
The bed was comfy and the shower was good
Room dusty, very hot, radiators on in the hallway, stayed last year and room then was much better for price
👌 perfect
Lovely large room, beautiful bathroom, comfortable bed.
Having to of here there and everywhere just to get a drink. Couldn’t go to the restaurant, they sent us to the lounge / bar, they refused to serve us and told us to go to reception due to a wake. But then the drinks ended up coming out of that place always. Room service apparently was on offer but no menu and when you scanned the QR code that was given only the restaurant menu came up but stated on the rooms booklet that it was light nights but could only see the Sunday dinner and the neon al dinner menu. Lots and lots of loud banging of doors all night and the room above us sounded like they were running a marathon. Was definitely not worth what we paid to stay there, have stayed in far nicer places for lesss. Such a shame as we had such high hopes. Not somewhere I would return to in a hurry.
Well worth the price
Didn’t fault one thing
~Great
Staff excellent, always helpful.
Room was hot but two fans in the room so all ok.
The hotel was superb, the staff were very friendly and professional. Our room had everything we needed, and was very comfortable. We cannot comment on the evening restaurant as we didn't use it, but the breakfast was to a very high standard. We also thought that the price we paid was very good value. We really could fault anything.
There was nothing we didn't like. We would certainly come back again and would be more than happy to recommend.
Merci
Room, breakfast, facilities, location, staff
There was nothing not to like
A trully great hotel. We upgraded to a luxury room in the main house and stayed for 5 nights. The room was very large the bed was comfortable and it had all the need amenities.Breakfast was excellent and good quality.I had dinner one evening and that was also excellant as were the cocktails my wife and I had during our stay. The grounds are beautiful.and great for walks. However what really sets this hotel apart is the standard of the staff. They were all brilliant, very helpfull and accommodating. We would certainly stay there again....

Very clean
Rooms were very hot despite the fan
Good location. Nice mix of old and new buildings. Good sized bedroom.
Clean, relaxing, impressive building
Nothing
The room, location and attention to detail 👌
It was all acceptable
We stayed in the country house part and it was truly beautiful and absolutely spotless. The room was spacious and overlooked the grounds . The food was good and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Good coffee, friendly staff and we highly recommend. The room was warm, but fans were supplied. Evening Cinema in the grounds was a nice touch.
All good, nothing negative to say.
Konumu, tarihi bir otel olması...

-Excellent customer service -clean, rooms, with a portable air con unit and overhead fan that were very welcome during the heat wave -the building was very pretty as were the grounds -the dinner in the restaurant was exceptional and the staff in there were attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly -the breakfast was fresh, delicious and more varied than most hotel breakfasts -Yhe reception staff were so friendly and helpful
Stayed here on many occasions & tried all the different room choices , never disappointed , staff , food , cocktails ,services accommodation & facilities all top draw
Loved it all
Spacious, clean well maintained
Our room was too hot despite 3 fans. Would’ve expected air conditioning to be part of the design of a west facing room.
The room was very comfortable, the receptionist was very welcoming and charming and went out of his way to be helpful. The grounds and garden are beautiful. We were with our daughter and small granddaughter so ate early, we very much enjoyed sitting out in the garden in the evenings
The bacon at breakfast
Lovely hotel, great room.
Maybe needs air conditioning although fans provided.
The room was excellent! The weekend that we stayed the temperature reached 32 degrees ! Fortunately for us the staff had put 2 extras fans in our room. All the staff were very friendly and informative. The breakfast was the icing on the cake! The selection was excellent. There was some thing to suit everyone.
I can honestly say nothing at all. It is in a perfect location in beautiful grounds. The dining rooms and extra sitting room are very welcoming with easy access to your accommodation and bars.
Essen war top die Auswahl sensationell
nichts.
Wivenhoe House is just a joy to stay at, excellent access to Colchester and Essex University
There is nothing not to like about this venue
Room with balcony is very nice. 3 fans in the room all provided kept it lovely and cool. Very quiet. Would stay again but would not have breakfast. Overpriced. Poor quality.
Breakfast overpriced. Hard pancakes. Dry food been under lights a long time. Porridge not good. Staff pleasant but I would advise to avoid the breakfast.
The surroundings, it was a very nice University site. The lakes and the trees where nice, good walks. breakfast was ok and the dinner also. View of the terrace: astounding.
some roads wrew only for buses, our navigation got confused, t get out of the campus was a problem.
Mooie ligging @campus Essex University.
The whole place, it was immaculate.
In my opinion there was nothing to dislike
Nothing more to say.
Fresh milk in room. Clean. Beds OK. Staff in dining room friendly.
Pillows were awful. Bedroom very hot despite fans. No Netflix in room. Staff uninformed re parking at EV points. Bit of a disconnect between the job and staff knowledge generally.
The location was great for an event we were going to at the University of Essex. But once you were there it felt like you were in the countryside.
Nothing.
The venue and house is nice.
They should have told us before booking that there was going to be a prom full of children. We were stuck in traffic for around 40 minutes. The room was so hot that we couldn't sleep and overpriced for a poor view and ventilation.
I stayed in the Hilton room. It was really stylish, comfortable, clean and cool during the hot weather.
The roll top bath could do with a separate shower head for rinsing before you get out.
The staff were great - so friendly and helpful. Location was excellent.
We were staying at the hotel as my daughter was attending a gymnastics competition nearby. Breakfast opened at 8am, we needed to leave by 8.15am. It would have been helpful if breakfast could have started earlier. Also i found the bed a little uncomfortable.
Loved the grounds and the spacious clean rooms
Only thing I’d say was the balcony having bars but that’s the design.
The location and the room
The restaurant. We were given the Sunday lunch menu even though we went in the evening and were told it was the same menu! My husband had the pasta which was very hard and dry and I had fish and chips which was over cooked! No one came and asked us if it was ok but we told them when they cleared our plates away that we were very disappointed with the food. No one came back to us so we moved outside to have a coffee. A member of staff came to find us to give us the bill and we mentioned again about the poor food. He said that he would talk to his manager but he never returned.
Had no idea what to expect. Lovely surprise. Huge room, (whoever knew you could be too far from a TV fan rather remote to work, but you can 🤣), bathroom as big as most front rooms. Friendly staff, great food at the brasserie. Breakfast was great. Nothing seemed too much. I would go back anytime.

Beautiful location. Great food. Lovely staff.
The room was on the 4th floor and despite there being two fans, it was ridiculously hot. The fans were just moving hot air and not cooling. Discussed with member of staff who was lovely but explained it was all down to university funding approval and out of the hotels hands. We also had an unfortunate experience with room service that didn't turn up. After an hour we had to cancel it as we had to attend an event. We were given a full refund. Over all it wasn't the smooth stay we have experienced in the past here. But as always the staff were very polite and helpful.
The size of the room was excellent and included a balcony with a lovely view. There was a desk with power points nearby, tea/coffee facilities, and given the hot weather there was a portable air conditioner in the room as well as a ceiling fan. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The natural setting is very attractive, and it is a beautiful historic bulding that has links with the artist Turner.
The mobile phone signal was weak and unreliable. There was free WiFi but this also was a bit weak in my room. The bathroom was set up as a wet room, but the water from the shower was slow to drain away and most of the bathroom floor was covered with water after a shower. The positive aspects of the room by far outweighed these fairly minor issues.
Excellent food, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Liked having a fridge, quality toiletries and towels. Great location and quiet. Good to have parking.
The room and corridor was very hot - there was a ceiling fan - but other areas of the hotel were a lot cooler.
Excellent accommodation
Relaxing room at very reasonable price. Looking out from balcony at 200 year old oak tree. Nice options to sit outside, helpful staff, vegan afternoon tea was delicious.
Beautiful building
Lots of noise from evening events/parties in the conference room. Don’t put a family with a small child in the room above the beer garden. The restaurant has declined significantly. It’s not a brasserie any longer. It’s average food and service with paper napkins for an extra kick. It’s very hot in the room even on a moderately hot day (23-25) with no AC and despite 3 fans this wasn’t effective.
Location and rooms were very clean and food was very good
Very efficient check in process. Nice and clean bathroom. Cold water in fridge. Great restaurant for dinner. Good breakfast.
Nothing.
Great hotel.

Everything was perfect
Mooi karaktervol gebouw. Mooi en modern bijgebouw waar we verbleven. Uitetmate goede bedden. Mooie en ruime kamers. Men maakte gaarne ontbijtboxes omdat we vertrokken voordat ontbijt werd geserveerd
Great breakfast, lovely room
No air conditionning
Everything, staff were amazing. The restaurant staff were exceptional.
Nothing everything was great.
Great location. All staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely setting. Room facilities excellent. Would highly recommend.
The room was a good size. Clean and comfortable. En-suite was very clean with good facilities and shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Iron and hairdryer in the room. Mini fridge with jug of water and bottle of milk. Coffee machine.
The hotel was EXTREMELY hot. There’s a ceiling fan in the room and a portable air conditioning unit but these were noisy and not 100% effective during the warm weather conditions. There were LOTS of flies. They were crawling all over the uncovered breakfast buffet food, crockery and cutlery and landing on guests and their food as they tried to eat.
Very comfortable room and facilities. Pleasant staff . Reception very helpful. Very good breakfast
Nothing
The staff were great And breakfast was lovely
Check in is too late
Excellent hotel,, a.mix of old and new.
Nothing
Immaculately clean. Very large rooms and many thoughtful touches. It is an old property, but in the middle of a heatwave, they had installed a large, silent freestanding fan in the room and the fridge contained a large jug full of iced water.
The corporate aspect as it is in an ideal location for meetings on a university campus
Excellent choice of venue. Excellent restaurant. Helpful and attentive staff. We will revisit

It's a lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was good.
It wasn't a particularly warm evening but the room was a little too hot. The hotel provided 2 electric fans (plus one in the ceiling which we didn't try, so not sure if it worked), but I can imagine that on hot days/nights, it could potentially be unbearable without air conditioning.
The building was beautiful the rooms were clean and nicely furnished
Bit expensive And we ended up paying for drinks that weren’t ours
Lovely hotel and excellent service.
Thought the dinner menu very limited except Sunday0
Perfect stay

Beautiful room. Courteous, friendly staff
Everything okay
Beautiful location. Good value for money.
We stayed in the Boudicca suite, which was a spacious and beautiful room with a bath and a view of a small courtyard. The hotel is located in a stunning manor house within a park and is run in connection with the University of Essex's hospitality school. The staff was exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was excellent, featuring a great buffet, delicious cappuccinos, and à la carte options. It's a perfect and safe place to stay after arriving on the ferry to Harwich (only a 30-minute drive with plenty of parking). We took the 14:15 boat from Hook of Holland and arrived around 21:00, leaving us just enough time for a lovely evening walk. Highly recommended!
Location was great. I was there to visit the University.
Lovely old, well maintained, building. Excellent staff and location.
Nothing
Friendliness of staff and convenience of very good value dining experience
The only issue, which was solved by fans already placed, was the background warmth of the room.
Amazing staff and a very dog-friendly hotel! My dog was given a lot of attention, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The outdoor breakfast area is very nice, with plenty of room for a dog, and the staff even brought her something comfortable to lie down on. The grounds are beautiful, and our room was nicely decorated and peaceful.
Nothing
The location, the grounds, the hotel itself had so much character about it and it felt like you were really escaping the real world. The staff were always on hand. The restaurant was great both for dinner and breakfast. They helped me plan special surprises for our anniversary which was amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
Everything couldn’t fault a thing!
Nothing!
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and really yummy food! We ordered room service and everything came really quickly and the staff were accommodating. Eating breakfast on the balcony was so luxurious and a great way to start the day
Would love the ability to watch Netflix on the tv but this was just a personal preference!
Our room was nice and spacious, the food was top class, staff were amazingly good.
our toilet was dirty when we got in. It’s like someone used it and didn’t flash but I’m choosing to overlook that because everything else was exceptional.
Amazing view, lovely room and professional staff.
Food was lovely
