arrived late and couldn’t find anyone to show me the room or tell me where it was. had to find it on my own in the dark.

Security staff were kind and helpful.

No address on the keys i was given, apparently expected to try the door of every flat in the building to see which it fitted. Then the room was extremely musty damp smelling, and had broken fixings.

Made extremely welcome on arrival. Clear directions to my room. Plenty of parking. Lovely breakfast

It was very clean and quiet and a nice view overlooking the trees.

The staff gave me a key to a different block so I couldn't get in and had to wait outside until security arrived. The door kept slamming shut every time you went to the kitchen, I was always worried I would lock myself out. The room was very basic, the mattress was quite hard and the pillow s were a bit old and flat.

Tranquil location, nice evening walks around campus, bus stop nearby for easy travel to Colchester and beyond

Nice safe environment with ample parking. Rooms and accommodation Blocks alway spotless. Even “ off season” there are numerous retail outlets open.

Affordable choice, clean, en-suite bathroom

Exceptionally Spartan, very tight, key pickup slightly clunky. Eating choices onsite was a single Buffalo Joe. Didn’t see a vegetable for 4 days, felt a bit queasy by day 3. Suggest trying further afield. Room is snug and soundproofing is basic- was woken up by guests slamming fire doors at all hours. Clean!

Quite a hike fro. Any parking to the reception and no clear signs. Map on app was rubbish. A little more clear information would have been nice

Room was very clean and functional for a one night stay. Cafes were open which was a benefit (food was basic but very cheap). The grounds were nice to walk around.

Noise from other guests but not a major issue And instructions for wifi were on a very small pdf which was a little hard to follow

There wasn't much to like. I felt as though I had been given a map and then told go find it. Was like a needle in a haystack. No help around. It is such a big place. Everything seemed to be miles away even fir the slightest bit of help and no one was at hand or nearby to help. I wasn't left a pack in my room and in the morning I didn't know where to go fir breakfast. I sent a message in the chat. I phoned and left a voicemail. I sent an email. When I phoned the message was office hours during the week are 9 till 5 which wasn't good as checkout was 9.30sm. I found my way to the squares with the help of a lady in the car park. Found the events office. Told them what happened and they then gave me a meal card. 7.30am I had left a voicemail on the 01206 number and received a phone call back at 8.47. A member of your staff not believing me and then advising the lines are manned from 7.45!! Then why was my call replied to at 8.47? Overall not a good experience fir me. I woke up with back ache and felt as though inhad slept on the floor. Poor students have to sleep on those beds.

Clean apartment in pleasant surroundings. Good size fridge and freezer.

Score lowered due to a few factors: 1) Reception not easy to find. Map Pin sent in advance wasn't close to actual location. Very little signage, better instructions required. Also list where shops are on campus and opening times, and the way to lock the room door. 2) Advised no cutlery in property but can use the kitchen. BUT there was no dinnerware (cups/plate) or cookware either, so the kitchen was redundant, annoyingly.

We could choose 7 items from a cafeteria style choice. Including a bottle of spring water which was most welcome, it was very warm 30+ deg temperature during the day.

Breakfast was in the cafeteria with the students... It did feel out of place.... seniors amongst teenagers. There were queues at peak times. The Campus is very large so a fair amount of walking to do.

The area is nice

Very poor communication. We had searched for a room, filtering for two guests, booked what was described as a "twin", then on the morning of the stay we phoned ahead to ask something only to be told that the room was for one person and we would be unable to check in with two. We raised the issue with Booking.com, who contacted the host for us but received no reply on the matter. We had to make arrangements elsewhere, losing our booking with no refund. Will not be using again.

The campus is easily accessible by bus from Colchester.I had a good night's sleep, quiet situation and comfortable bed. The ensuit included a decent shower.

On Campus- in quieter area but mins walk to bars, food, shop and lecture facilities.

The room was a bit jaded, could do with some refurbishing. Eg bottom of bathroom door peeled and warped slightly- what you’d expect from a wet room that’s had lots of use!! Desk area- brilliant, space, good lighting and storage for studying or conference papers.

It was ideal for me as I have an event to attend on the same campus.

It is a student accommodation in the first place and the room bed was not really comfortable, the ensuite bath facilities were very basic.

Information about check in is zero,and it is not easy to find the place where you collect the key.

Car park a long way from accomodation when there was a car park quite close. A lot of walking and i have issues with my back. If i use it again i would insist on nearer car park and i would come better prepared to cater for myself using the kitchen.

The location is excellent! I went there to attend a workshop in the University and it's very convenient to leave on campus. The room was well-prepared and "cute" as well. It has all facilities needed for a short-stay.

The location on the campus, which is also very well connected via bus with the city centre, very comfy room with enough space for things. Also, the desk and chair are comfortable. It's located in a quiet part of the campus.

Difficult to find at first

Property was good value for money, and convenient for Essex Sports centre. Bed was surprisingly comfortable. It was also useful having kitchen facilities Lots of parking on site.

The details for finding the office for leu collection were difficult (I know several others felt the same). They have been written presuming guests know the university. I was told to go to "Square 3" on the map, you can't zoom in on a map in the booking.com app so I could not read that part and presumed square 3 was a grid location. I ended up on the wrong side of campus and called the out of hour number for assistance. They told me I'd called the wrong place and sent me to "Pastures reception" (I later realised they thought I was a student). From there I was told that they were for students only, their security guard very kindly walked me across campus but even he was not certain where we were going. Once we found the security office I was given the key in an envelope. The security office gave me directions to the flat (which were not straight forward and he acknowledged that), I got partway and called a friend (also staying there) to find me as once again I was lost and could not see the block name on any maps. Once inside I realised there was a map inside the sealed envelope, I presumed it was a key and WiFi/housekeeping instructions. If I had known it had a map showing the route to accommodation I would have used this. It took me 45 mins from parking to getting into my flat. I know several people were also escorted around by security for similar reasons. My recommendation is that when sharing the virtual map they give the map grid location as well as it being "square 3". That when handing over keys they explain that there is a map showing the route. Now that I know where to find it, I would stay again. But I do think you could help guests avoid spending 45 mins in the cold and dark on an unfamiliar campus.

On arrival I found it difficult to navigate to the security offic to collect my key card. The automatic email mentioned a map but this wasn't attached. I then had to retrace my steps with my luggage. The door to the building was then very stiff Bed was very hard. Room wasn't fully clean, with hairs in the sink The room rate paid included breakfast, but no information was given on where/when this was served and how to access it. This turned out to be a pre paid charge card, but no information as to how much credit was on it. Please provide a map when keys are collected, and information on breakfast.

Quiet, private location. Modern, clean facilities. Short walk from central campus. Ample parking and fees included in the booking. Picturesque park with lakes, rabbits and squirrels, very nice for relaxing strolls. Campus amenities open and accessible to visitors.

I think i have got used to the bed not having a spring layer in the frame, but i have got used to it now.

The campus environment is really nice, and the houses are quiet, which is great for a short stay. The rooms are okay for a few nights—nothing fancy, but they do the job. The location is super convenient, and the hot breakfast is a nice bonus. With a few small improvements, it could be even better.

Accessing taxis could definitely be easier—maybe adding QR codes for booking or calling a taxi would help a lot. The service overall was good, but a few things could be improved. Clearer instructions on how to collect orders would make the process less confusing, and offering more cake or croissant options would be a nice touch. I was also charged extra for my coffee, so clearer pricing would be appreciated. One last note: the FindMyWays page and the Uber app don’t work properly—they often can’t detect the location automatically, which makes booking a bit difficult.

The bed was surprisingly very comfortable, the room had adequate options for storage despite it's overall small size. Nice fob security system. Great location. Fast WiFi. Clean room.

No elevator in the building so it's not ideal for disabled or people with lots of luggage. The location for where you have to collect/ drop off the room key is quite far if you're carrying luggage. Would've been better if the place was moved closer to the Houses. The room is very small so only ideal for solo travellers. You have to bring your own toiletries and kitchenware as theirs is a bit lacking. They gave towels and one of those small spherical soaps.

The bed was awfully uncomfortable. I barely slept and left the accommodation in pain. The only thing nice about the full english breakfast was the tea and coffee from the machine. I tried something different both days with same outcome. When I left the room in the morning all was fine but when I went back at 9pm the toilet wouldn't flush and no reply from out of hours number

Check in was horrendous. I arrived at 5pm when it was dark, insufficient signage to find where to collect the key. Also unable to find the right car park. Eventually a student directed me to security and security then were able to guide me to key collection. You need to allow 30 mins to check out as you need to walk key back to main campus then walk back to accommodation as you can't drive round (unless you leave the campus then re enter at another entrance). Noisy at night (doors slamming) as the accommodation has fire doors but they don't have silent closures so every time some one comes in / out a room there is a slamming door. Bed was uncomfortable (could feel the springs)

Great opportunity feeling I am a student and good price with breakfast.

I understand no shampoo and water but I needed dryer and few hungers. and the bed was bumpy.
