Chestnut Residence - Campus Accommodation

Great location dated rooms

There was fake fire emergency and we had to walk down 21 floors for nothing.

It was the perfect location for us to walk to transit and to downtown. The room was a good size, the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked fantastic!

Chestnut Residence is very close to all the places that I want to go and see, it is affordable, breakfast buffet is very good and our room was good size although it’s lacking the basic appliances such as kettle, microwave, TV and small fridge… overall, it was good! I would stay here again and recommend thus to my family and friends.

value for money

Great location with affordable rate , the staffs are nice and friendly, breakfast is great. Room is cleaning only the mattress is kinda soft other than that everything is great

A perfect location with a great

This was great for the price - good but inexpensive, very central and walkable, a full breakfast offering each morning. The rooms are dorms (more basic than a hotel) but I spend my vacation time exploring, and only return to my accommodations to sleep. This fit the bill for me just right.

We stayed at Chestnut for a week while visiting Toronto in July. It's located in a great location, about a thirty minute walk to the Rogers Center and many other attractions. The breakfast buffet offered many selections and was always tasty.

This is a decent place to stay for a day or two if you can't afford anything else (Toronto is expensive). The room was bare-bones, but it had a bed and a bathroom, which is what a person needs! The breakfast was institutional, with minimal gluten-free options (I ended up with a few slices of melon and some little potato things). The room was chilly from the air conditioning, but I couldn't figure out how to turn it down, and turning it off wasn't really an option that day. Overall, it's okay.

So confortable.

Excellent affordable accommodations in Toronto. Great location. Food that’s fantastic, all you can eat breakfast included! Beds are less comfortable than I normally would wish for, but that said, it is a university dorm and expected. This would not deter me from staying again. Great visit.

Excellent walkable. I will book the place again

Very basic accommodation at a low price (for Toronto).

It would of been better to have fresh towels at least once

There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom and the windows can't be opened, so the next morning you'll smell a very musty odor。No one cleaned the trash at the table area by the elevator and the tables were not clean。The only good thing is the location, area downtown and close to public transportation

The Chestnut Residence is located in a fantastic area and the staff is excellent. The lobby and dining areas are nice, beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. But the room...... I know they are dorm rooms, but there were holes in our walls, in our curtains and in the bath towels. Big holes! Neither the sink or tub had a plug to stop the water from going down the drain. The electric outlets were few and located in difficult to access spots - behind desks and under the beds. The shower head needed to be replaced and the sink had cracks in it. We knew ahead of time that the room didn't have a TV, microwave or refrigerator with was fine, but the facility didn't have a working ice machine. We would probably stay there again because of the price and convenience, but I would hope the room would be in better repair.

For a one night stay it was okay. Breakfast was fantastic, great spread. Did not expect that.

Nice location, but you know it's student residence 😁

This is a residence of the University of Toronto, so expectations should be realistic. It is a very good alternative to very expensive hotels in downtown Toronto. Staff was very nice at reception and helpful, letting us check in early. Rooms are fine, clean and comfortable, greatest mattress I had in a hotel room in a while. Bathroom is starting to show its age, but it is still very acceptable. Nice buffet breakfast, with fressh products. Great location downton Toronto, walking distance to subways, attractions, markets, etc

Breakfast included was great! I would have appreciated a side lamp for reading. Staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating. A very good location for touring city of Toronto. Enjoyed my stay despite imperfections!

The food options in short distance around are AMAZING. Also very easy walks to the ROM and the harbor. If you stay here and enjoy meat options try Gyubee and you wont regret it.

Upon arrival , the room was not cleaned but the staff changed to room and was accommodating.

Worhwhile

Shine i will try my best

Very reasonable price. Good breakfast. Felt like i was back at university. In downtown toronto.

Basic university residence but all you need. No fridge or microwave. Good free breakfast included.

Staff was extremely helpful

Ok

Handy and simple

My stay was alright, felt very safe there and staff were nice. The only thing is that there are no outlets close to the beds we only had one near a desk and the other in the bathroom. There was a black stain on our pillows. Also our sleep was disrupted by an alarm that went off at 6am in the morning.

You pay for what you get. Rooms are basic. No fridge or microwave. No tv or kleenex boxes. Room was very damp. The free breakfast was decent. Parking in garage below is easy paid 31$ for overnight.

breakfast was great and value for the money

The carpets are a bit old an the beds stiff but is good gfor the price and location and included breakfast

Old rooms, needs a facelift

The location was incredible. Very easy to get around. Lots of food options around and close to subway stations. The cleanliness of the room was under par and the towels were very old and stained. However, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very pleasant! Thoroughly up to standards!

Wow! This was not the dorm room I had when I was in college! Larger than anticipated, quiet room with an excellent breakfast that was open for several convenient hours with a wide variety of foods.

Great place with reasonable price

Was good, there were flies in our room unfortunately. Extremely difficult to access electrical outlets. Breakfast was fine.

Free breakfast

Great staff and location, very close to the subway and buses, with many food options nearby. Amenities are dated but expected given the price.

This is not a hotel, it's a dorm. Breakfast was good, bed not too comfortable, condition of room and bathroom really not good. Location is fantastic, though.

Nothing fancy. But met our needs.

Awesome location.

Everything is ok. Except all the power outlets are covered up. I have to charge my phone in the bathroom. The only outlet is in the bathroom.

Great value basic accommodation in an excellent location.

The breakfast was relatively good.

It was a lovely experience staying here. Wayne at the front desk was pleasant and genuinely helpful in mapping out new places for us to visit when he heard it was our first time. Breakfast was also good. This location was very convenient and in walking distance to the main areas. Transportation was also very accessible from here as well.

Was ok as usual, but fort time near the elevator for me. Too much noise. Wall are also paper thin

Great location, excellent breakfast. Rooms in poor condition although clean.

Amazing free breakfast

Cheap basic accommodations in the downtown area. They treated me very well, outstanding staff working there

Not worth the price. Dated rooms and uncomfortable.

I was staying in Toronto for a conference and chose this as a low cost option. Staff were friendly and efficient and the residence was clean throughout. Breakfast was functional - plentiful and canteen-style, feeling a bit like being back at school. The room was spacious with a private bathroom. A laundry is available for use in the basement. The location is good for downtown and the lake is about a mile walk away. Many other guests appeared to be in parties of young people on school trips - all were polite and there were no specific issues, but it did feel a bit overwhelming at times e.g. when trying to use the lifts. The decor was dated and the room and corridors felt very worn, with no plugs in the sink or bath and dripping taps. The bed had what seemed a very cheap mattress and there was a constant and loud hum in the room from some kind of vent. The AC worked but was very loud so I did not use it much. There was a fire alarm one night which required a full evacuation at 12:30am (from a 20+ story building) - and it took about an hour to get back in. Staff said it was probably someone smoking in a bedroom and didn’t seem too surprised. So whether this suits you depends on your own preferences and needs. The feel is as much hostel as hotel - so it’s great for people on a budget. It’s safe, clean and comfortable enough, with friendly and helpful staff and a great location. But if you want a hotel-style stay and can afford it, you may be better going elsewhere.

The place is located in the middle of Toronto! Very convenient for walking! It is used as student residence during other times.

Perfect location

Great location.

I have very mixed feelings about my stay here. I called ahead of time and was told my room would be ready for check in early. I drove a considerable distance for them to tell me there were no rooms available yet, leaving me stranded in downtown Toronto for hours. When I called later to see if my room was ready the receptionist was rather curt stating that there are no guarantees rooms will be ready early, that is all fine except that’s not what I was told originally. The room itself was fine, nothing exciting and no tv but worked for what I needed. The bathroom was pretty dirty with hair in the drain and shower still. Then the wifi stopped working in the early morning when I had to get up to study for an exam which was problematic as there is no front desk throughout the night into the morning. Breakfast was definitely the highlight of my stay it was great with a little bit of everything.

safe and good location

My stay at the Chestnut Residence was amazing! We had ac in our room working perfect! The staff was so polite and helpful! They also keep your baggage with them after you checkout! 10/10 stay for a first time!!!! I will be back for sure.

Best deal in downtown Toronto. Clean, AC works and free breakfast

It is in a great location. Staff very friendly and helpful, room clean

For some reason there were no plugs for either the sink or the bathtub. However, the water pressure in the shower was amazing! I had to do some searching to find an outlet to plug my phone in, but otherwise everything was great. Breakfast, cafeteria style was delicious and plentiful.

convenient for transit and walk around, free breakfast, but the air in room and corridor is stale

Ideal area, nice view, staff was very welcoming and easy communication, older looking room, nothing fancy, but despite the look, the bed was incredibly comfortable. I will definitely be looking to stay here in the future for easy affordable stays in downtown

Did not care much for the garage, dull, very little space and looks unsafe.

Room is basic but functional and very quiet! Many options at the buffet breakfast which is included in the price. Excellent location close to the University of Toronto, and just a couple of blocks from St. Patrick subway station.

My bathroom was not cleaned at all, there was hairs everywhere in the bathroom and there were dirty shoe marks on the ground

Room condition is poor, not good for couple stay

It was an affordable option in a great location. I felt safe and it was easy to go. many places in the city. The building is quite old and there was barely any water pressure in the shower, which was annoying, but other than that, it was fine.

The AC did not work.

Great stay, location and service.

Convenient for getting around Noisy ventilation poor plumbing system Lack of communication at reception

It was awesome location for the concert we attended. The breakfast was clean and well organized.

Highly recommend. But it’s busy area. Walking distance to everything.

I will definately stay here again hands down

Good location. Near bus, metro and mall

Good breakfast

The hotel is convenient to downtown, subways, busses, etc. Walking distance to Eaton's Centre and other shops and restaurants

Staff rude upon check in, overall room was tired and in need of a refurb. Holes in the curtains and long black hairs in the bath room.

I can't believe this is what UofT students get for almost 3k a month. The room and hallway decor is dated and there is a slight musty smell out in the hallways. The room is fine at best. The air con unit, which is a big individual unit, is loud but works. No window nor balcony access, but the windows large and gives a nice view out. It feels a bit run down from certain angles, but as a quick cheap stay it's absolutely fine. The linens are clean and the shower has decent pressure. The staff has been extremely responsive to requests and were very accommodating. The continental breakfast is excellent and offers a lot of options as other guests say. The location is fantastic and made my stay an overall excellent value. As a value focused traveler, I will come again to Chestnut Residences for short stays in Toronto.

Liked everything food good. Walk to my dr appointment very nice.

The room was clean overall. Beds were fairly comfortable. The breakfast was good. Free wifi. There was no TV or phone to ring the front desk. There were no plug ins by the bed for my husbands apnea machine. There was quite a bit of noise from the hallway later in the evening

Affordable Way To Stay .

You get what you pay for. But the most value you get from here is the free breakfast and its downtown location at the price it offers. $150/night is excellent

Perfectly located. Simple room but nice enough. Breakfast was a definite plus. Would stay here again.

It was very okay. The 4 days cleaning has to be reviewed to 2 days.

I had a very terrible experience during my stay for 6 days. Room was not aseptic and clean. There was no drinking water in the room when I inquired about the drinking water and toothpaste they said they don’t provide these things while these are very basic things merely will cost $10. I also had a bad experience with my room key every time I need to try 5-6 times then that worked and sometimes I had to wait outside the room for a while. While I reported this to the front desk they changed the key and in 6 days for 5 times but on the last day of my stay they called their maintenance guy and he said door lock has a problem. There were no TV in the room, washroom was little good but fixtures were too old.

The Residence was just the thing for a short vacation in downtown Toronto. Very accessible. Very helpful staff.

It’s clean and a good location.

.

Accommodations and food were good but rooms didn't have many power outlets. That was our only issue.

Uncomfortable beds.

Central location excellent. Great breakfast included. Dining room should have extra staff to wipe tables during breakfast.

Really enjoyed the stay overall. Did not have any noise complaints or issues with the room. The breakfast included is a really nice perk. This well suited my needs for my time in Toronto.

I liked the property was close to everything

This is a university and student rooms are basic but adequate. It was great that the air con worked but it is on 24/7 and is like having loud white noise when trying to sleep. The bathroom is fine but the sudden loss of hot water whilst showering was unexpected. Had to leave it for 5 mins before hot water returned. For creature comforts I'd take a travel kettle next time.

Hotel location
