Great people, so warm and welcoming. Amazing environment, super clean and great social life. Would recommend it to everybody, best hostel I’ve ever been to!

Lähellä rantaa. Työntekijät antavat neuvoja mikä tarvitset apua kaikenlaisissa asioissa. Mm. Surffaus. Sopivan kokoinen guesthouse. Tulen varmasti uudelleenkin.

Look no further if you search for a near-beach place to surf. Check other reviews, they tell everything. A beautiful family house with balcony, staff like family, feel like home, rent your gear right from them. You can not ask for more.

Best place in Baleal

Die beiden Gastgeber und ihr Team waren sehr willkommend und freundlich. Hilfsbereit und persönlich. Die Küche war extrem sauber und es wurde immer in Stand gehalten. Man sah, dass sie gerne und grosszügige Gastgeber sind und Caffè, z.T. sogar Kuchen und Früchte zur Verfügung stellten. Sie waren gut eingerichtet, die Neoprens konnten praktisch aufgehängt werden, die Surfbretter in einem separaten Raum (abschliessbar) gelagert werden. Und wer früher los muss am Morgen kriegt auch den Schlüssel dazu.

Das Bad in unserem Zimmer roch immer ein bisschen seltsam

Caterina, Hugo, and Pati (the dog) have a wonderful house. It doesn't feel like a hostel, but rather like family. Everyone is incredibly kind, from the volunteers to the owners. The house features many lovely details, ranging from the murals to the furniture and decor. The kitchen is well-equipped and organized, with designated space for each guest in the cupboards and fridge. There are plenty of places to relax, both in the garden and inside the house if the weather is bad. You can also rent surfboards, wetsuits, and skateboards. I’d love to come back. The property was amazing and the people were even better. The owners whole vibe was to make the house feel like your home and they were very successful. I will definitely be back soon.

At first the aria was a shock, I expected more but in the end it didn’t matter how small the town was.

Da quando ho conosciuto Caterina e Hugo, ormai vengo soltanto qui da loro per i miei soggiorni di surf a Baleal. La casa è molto accogliente, tenuta sempre in ordine e dotata di tutti i comfort. Mi piace molto la scelta di voler utilizzare Corto Maltese come tema delle pareti interne ed esterne, dona quel tocco di originalità un più alla casa. All’interno si respira sempre un clima molto amichevole e internazionale ed inoltre è presente un ampio giardino dove ci si può rilassare premendo il sole o fare un barbecue tra amici. La posizione è ottima per chi vuole svegliarsi al mattino presto e andare a surfare proprio davanti casa ed è vicinissima a bar, supermercati, ristoranti e alla fermata degli autobus. Caterina e Hugo sono sempre disponibilissimi per qualsiasi esigenza e tengono molto ai loro ospiti facendoli sentire a casa. Consigliatissimo!

Chambre double très jolie, confortable, au dernier étage, au calme avec sa propre salle de bain et propre petite cuisine. Petite terrasse très appréciable pour dîner. Ambiance étudiante avec surfeurs. Très bon accueil, on s'y sent très bien.

İnanılmaz misafirperver ve güleryüzüydüler. Sanki yıllardır birbirimizi tanıyormuşuz gibi ayrıldık. Ortam çok ferah ve temizdi. Önümüzdeki aylarda kesin tekrar gideceğiz. Arka bahçesinin olması ve sörf ekipmanları kiralayabilmek büyük bir artıydı.

Um pouco de ruído a mais à noite, mas nada de exagerado.

Помешкання перевершило очікування. Охайно, чисто, на кухні чисто, тихо після 10ї вечора. Чудове місце для серферів, є можливість орендувати борд та костюм. Костюми безкоштовні, бо вже трохи зношені. Власники дуже привітні, щирі і дійсно турботливі. Повернуся знову!

If you are OK with hostel lifestyle, you will enjoy it. Nice coffee and croissant for breakfast. Very close to surf locations. You can walk a lot in the neighborhood. Shared kitchen is an advantage but it might be occupied from to time. Staff was nice and helpful. Safe parking behind the house.

The room was not soundproof.

Possibly the best hostel ever. Clean, bright, perfect location, surf rental, big garden, bbq, literally anything you could think of. But above all the owners and the staff, who are some of the loveliest people you'll ever meet.

Nothing, everything is excellent.

Location is fantastic, it is close to the ocean. There is a locker for surfboards, a barrel to rinse wetsuits. The kitchen is great, with a lot of free stuff for cooking, tea, coffee etc. We had the rooftop apartment, which has its own kitchen and ocean view. Lots of surfers/travelers, always up for a chat. The owners were very kind and helpful. We had a great time.

Dichtbij chille surfspots, restaurants en supermarkt. Board rental was ook heel nice.

Soms wat lawaai vanaf de tuin laat in de avond. Nadeel van kamer direct aan de tuin natuurlijk.

Lovely atmosphere, it seems that this place has a magnet for amazing people, Caterina and Hugo are just wonderful, always ready to help. I will come back for sure :)

Struttura molto comoda e vicina alle spiagge e alle scuole di surf; proprietari super accoglienti, gentili e preparati ad aiutare a risolvere qualsiasi problema degli ospiti!

Einer der Dorms liegt direkt an der Hauptstraße. Entweder man schließt das Fenster und es ist keine Luft im Zimmer oder es ist laut.

La ubicación de la casa a 10 minutos andando de la playa. Las opciones de ocio de la casa para nuestro hijo. La tranquilidad de los otros ocupantes de la casa.

Los dueños son muy atentos, y el ambiente es inmejorable. Todo facilidades y disposición para solucionar todo.

Det fanns kaffe och croissant till frukost vilket var helt perfekt. Kunde inte önskat ett bättre läge. Personalen var helt otroliga och det var en väldigt skön känsla på hela stället mellan alla.

Spacious, beautifully designed, every detail is cute and thoughtfully crafted. Rooms are spacious and nice. Every room has a bathroom. Cute private pattio outside, the terrace. Honestly everything. Also the volunteer hosts really do take care good of the house :)

The ventilation in the second room could be improved. At night it got very warm and lacked oxygen. Also the bunk bed was too short for me but I am tall so understable. Also the first room i stayed the smell in the bathroom was unpleasant (probably had to do something with the sewer). Other than that, nada :)

Staff was super nice, always available if needed. Every person I met here has been super nice with me, I just stayed 5 days but I could have spent months here! You are 5 minutes away from ocean, surfing places and supermarket, you can rent board and suits directly in the hostel.. basically everything you need to enjoy your holidays in Baleal!

I stayed for a week to work remotely and surf, which was perfect. I could do my work in the living room, and went to my room sometimes for a call, but was not that I really had to. The house was super comfortable and clean, and there was a nice vibe with everybody. Most of the people were guests which came back after an earlier stay, which is a good sign. It was very easy to rent a board at the hostel for only 10 a day, being able to surf every day after (and sometimes before) work. Cat and Hugo were super sweet and made my stay super pleasant: I am sad to go after one week, will definitely come back!

Hugo and Caterina are great hosts, you truly feel at home in Captain's Log, and the location is perfect (walking distance to the beach restaurants, etc)

The surf vibe is here. Everybody was so nice, I am not even sure who was from the staff. You can store your surfboard in the cabin that is closed for the night. Rooms were clean and we had no problem. We were on the highest floor that has separate room with nice view on the ocean.

The breakfast was not much, only pastel de natas, teas/coffees and fruit. The shower in my dorm was blocked.

Orla was a star helping me check in and making sure I had everything I needed. The facilities were fantastic, and you could really tell the owners Hugo and Caterina really cared about the place. It's a shame I couldn't stay longer - they are just too popular and were fully booked!

Just for the purposes of feedback, the knives could be sharper and there could be a chair or some sort of seat for anyone that is not on the bottom bunk because there is nothing to sit on to organise your bag in the room otherwise.

Everything - everything at Captain's is great. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, the staff are super friendly, there's an epic rooftop that you can watch sunrise / sunset from. It's walking distance to surf beaches, cafes, supermarket and surf shops if you need to rent boards. I will always try and stay here when travelling to Portugal. Absolutely love it

Super nice owners and volunteers. Was a pleasure to stay at Captains. Everything was clean, the kitchen had everything you need and the rental boards were nice. The garden is the perfect place to relax, sunbathe, play table tennis, beach tennis, read a book or spend a creative afternoon. Everything from booking, checking in, renting the boards and checking out was super easy.

Great staff, beautifully decorated house, nice garden, well equipped kitchen and a beach is 3min walk away.

All was perfect!! Location, staff, room, bed, etc It felt like home!

From the first moment we arrived, everyone in the hostel was very kind to all of us. Caterina, the hostel manager,also contacted me personally to give me more information and to be at my disposal for anything I needed. All the facilities and services met our expectations and even exceeded them. The hostel itself has a special aura and a very good vibe that I recommend both for people who are travelling with groups of friends or alone. The people who stay here are also very respectful in case you are worried about your rest. The location is excellent as it is very close to all the restaurants, beaches and nightlife. Above all, I recommend you to include Sunday in your stay as you will have the opportunity to have the best pancakes for breakfast in the area! One of the things I would also highlight, apart from the hostel itself, is the small garden, which allows you to relax, sunbathe and do different activities such as yoga or meditation. They also have a skatepark as well as the option to use different surfing equipment. If you are reading this review, I would definitely recommend you stop wasting time looking at other options and book a bed now!!!!

Awesome hostel. The location is perfect for walking to a range of different surf breaks. The included breakfast is great and makes life so much easier. You get a towel included with your stay which is also really helpful. Upon arrival there was a cupboard in the kitchen with my name on it, and an allocated basket in the fridge. The owner also reached out on whatsapp prior to my stay with some useful information and to see if I had any questions :). Theres a shed in the garden to store your boards and theres places to hang your wetsuit too. Had an awesome time overall thanks to the volunteers and other guests.

We had an amazing stay, the house is a hidden jam, great location & great accommodation with super nice community of surfers from all around the world. House has everything for comfortable and relaxed stay.

The Captain's is THE PLACE TO GO when you come to Baleal. From the first moment it gave me the feeling of being welcomed to a lovely family of all ages and backgrounds. Even though I am not a surfer I was an equal member of the community hahaha.The staff was just amazing (big love to the czech crew and Kev) and every evening someone else cooked for the whole hostel and we all ate together. What a treat! The breakfast was abundant with eggs, bread, cereals, coffee....The house is beautifully decorated and the garden and big living room invite you to come together.My room had a little balcony and the bed was comfy for me, even though I have problems with my back. At night it was quiet and I got the rest I wanted. I also met people in other hostels who were just waiting to get a room in the Captain's and many people are coming back every year...maybe I'll be one of them😃

Absolutely nothing

It's a special place, great people and volunteers, close to the beach, felt at home within a week :) Well equipped and perfect for surfing, relaxing and having a good time.

Nothing really! Some rooms are next to the road and glass containers if you have a light sleep, but not a lot of traffic.

Where to start? The staff (Ali and the volunteers) are very welcoming. Great vibes in the house and the garden with all the guests. Feels like a family. We had dinner together almost every evening. The house is cleaned well and the beds are comfortable. Very cool, colourful decorations, even on the ceilings. Between waves checks, surf sessions (beach literally around the corner), walks on the cliffs it was just so nice to chill here. People were able to work remotely here. It's such a pity to leave, but will be back (probably soon).
