Great meal at Restaurant
The bathtub was a real treat! And our room has afternoon sun and balcony access so we spent a good amount of time reading there.
Charm, decor and staff where exceptional
Nothing
The location was great, room was clean, bright and had comfortable furniture.
As per my rating, generally a lovely place.
Nothing.
Lovely old Hotel very well maintained. Super central and great staff.
The noise at 7am from downstairs was disappointing as it did wake us as it was lots of banging and clanging.
The location is right in the centre of union square and there is a fantastic 4square a few meters across the road. There were some cafes surrounding and the place itself was so nice and the beds just wonderful.
Overall not much to fault really except I could have a few noises when water was going elsewhere but nothing to really to note too much about. The cleanliness and location and everything so nice.
The character of the building is gorgeous and the staff very helpful.
I would like to see a lift installed as it’s quite a trek up the stairs with luggage. Not a complaint re the hotel but so many shops were closed Tues and wed. - also the movie theatre. Very frustrating as I could see through the windows items I likely would have purchased and I definitely would have gone to a movie.
The check in staff were so friendly and welcoming. They showed us up to our room and shared some of the places around town to visit.
Lovely pub built in the 1880s, classically styled rooms and well appointed. Perfect location.
Everything! Gorgeous room, comfy beds, excellent shower.
Everything was great.
It is a beautiful historic place to stay - very central . the rooms were beautiful- and the bar and restaurant were amazing. the staff were also very helpful and friendly
nothing
Great location and sweet little room.. I loved the bath
Beautiful hotel and the rooms were lovely and warm on a cold weekend
The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The location central and close to all the lovely shops and restaurants. The staff was attentive and we enjoyed the complimentary tea & coffee facilities and snacks. good to have a little fridge in the room. Th elibrary room with fireplace was a lovely relaxing place to spend time too.
There was nothing I didn't like. However some cutlery and some bowls would have been handy.
Clean, warm room. Friendly staff, great food
Basic but nice
Didn't realise our room was not in the hotel building
Close to everything, a little slice of history
The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of Martinbourgh with excellent cafe's all within 5 min walk .
Lovely period property
Beautiful property in a fantastic location
There is nothing to dislike about this hotel
Loved it! Great location, beautifully thought out rooms. Very comfortable
Everything! Was upgraded to a queen suit. Beautiful big room with balcony. Very tastefully decorated, clean and superbly comfortable.
Nothing really. It's a beautiful and well maintained hotel.
Decor was lovely, spotlessly clean. Private but well located
There wasn't anything we didn't like. I guess it could be noisy if you had a busy night in the bar downstairs or on the square?
Location is right on the square, the staff were amazing and the heritage feel was exactly what we were after!
Unfortunately Martinborough has limited activities outside of shopping and wineries, so during the day while it was raining we did find ourselves stuck in the room. It’s a minor issue, but a larger TV would’ve been amazing - the wall it’s on is massive and bare
La beauté et le charme de cet hôtel !
Fab location Easy stroll to wineries
Beautiful historical hotel. Large room. Lovely small town. Good pub/restaurant in the Building.
The 2% surcharge on top of the booking.com price. Price on their website cheaper than booking.com. We were in a Heritage suite and it was very noisy at night with regular trucks idling underneath our windows for a long time around 2-2.30am, then 5am then 6am... Shower was over the bath with a curtain that "sticks" to the body.
Fabulous location, very nice rooms with comfy beds and smart bathrooms. Nice restaurant bar onsite. Fires were welcome when the weather changed.
Poor bathroom lighting.
Location was amazing, beautiful Hotel, lovely friendly staff.
Nothing to dislike
Comfortable room
The cooling system in the room did not work. It was a warm night.
It was great being in the middle of town and having the bar and restaurant down stairs. We stayed in yhr Heritage room and I was concerned it may have poor insulation and be noisy but it was surprisingly quiet. I’d recommend staying in the main building, esp if you love a bit of history.
Nothing. Couldn’t fault it.
Being on the square obviously makes this location ideal for walking or cycling to most of the wineries. We were there on a Sunday to Tuesday, so a lot of the wineries, restaurants and bars were closed on the Monday/Monday night. Not the fault of the Hotel obvs, but something to remember in rural NZ. Most venues open Wednesday afternoon through to Sunday evening.
The louvred door between the bedroom and the bathroom only provides visual privacy, if you catch my drift...
Martinborough Hotel in middle of town square, dinning, shopping and imbibing within walking distance.
NA
Lovely property would have to be one the best country hotels in Nee Zealand. Lovely staff great atmosphere. Garden suite beautiful. A must stay if in the area.
Room was commutable and t have a restaurant and bar food available make life easer.
Reception staff incredibly friendly and welcoming, location was great, furnished nicely. Restaurant also great and very convenient

The location was perfect. The staff excellent. The room was awesome
Nothing
Beautiful old hotel, great facilities, so nice having Ashley & Co toiletries supplied - a very nice touch, very friendly and helpful staff, excellent restaurant on site, we had our rooms upgraded which was wonderful
Nothing really
We had a lovely room with a comfy bed and bathtub, and we enjoyed our dinner at the hotel restaurant. Also enjoyed reading in front of the fireplace.
Nothing
shower really lets it down
Nice receptionist on check in. Different one on check out who was a bit dismissive about us being cold in the room, although she did say sorry about that after her dismissive comment.
The room was freezing when we arrived and even at full the electric heater barely heated the room. Lack of carpeting or rugs didnt help. The bathroom was so cold we didnt want to use the shower. Also the badly fitting double shutter doors to the (in the corner of the room) ensuite didnt provide basic privacy for using the bathroom. It was a frosty morning but decent heating is a must in a hotel room. Also noise from hallway and other rooms not pleasant - again lack of soft flooring meant this was amplified.
Such a cool part of the North Island and really great stay
Great location and gorgeous interior
Great atmosphere and dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Check-in staff lovely - would definitely stay tgere again.
Beautiful accommodation in the centre of a small lovely town. Good lady check-in was very nice and showed us to our room and all the facilities available to us which was very kind of her. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable.
Nothing
Loved the location on the square and the rooms were great with a nice balcony to sit out on and watch the world go by. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The staff were very helpful including moving our booking after storm delayed our arrival.
Nothing was wrong
The Martinborough Hotel is an historic building and the decor has been very tastefully maintained to match the period of the building's construction. It's location is superb being right on the edge of the town square and the main attractions of the Martinborough area are easily accessed from the location.
We had amazing communication from staff prior to arriving giving us detailed directions to get there despite flooding. We were given a lovely surprise in being offered a wonderful upgrade to a suite.
Nothing, food, service and hospitality were all excellent during our recent stay. Would really recommend it, great location and good facilities.
The garden room suite was very comfortable and well appointed.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were lovely
The toilet was a little uncomfortable
The old world atmosphere of the hotel and also the comfortable room we were allocated made the stay very good.
Nothing
Historical 140 years old humbling
History of building
High ceilings, big windows and doors to the balcony. The character of the building.
It was a wet wet night and there was not really anything to do…there was a library downstairs, but the books were very dated. The union restaurant, though we had a lovely dinner, $11 for a bottle of tap water was pricey. Also we booked for 6.30 pm and were told the Sunday roast had been sold out. A large group showed up after us and we noticed that numerous roast dinners were served to them. Not good customer experience.
Charming
Noise from people on the street outside the hotel. Live band for hours really loud outside Didsbury.
Wow! Thanks. Excellent night's accommodation. Recommend this hotel. Sitting outside on the balcony, dinner downstairs, all so good. Cheers. Would love to go back one day
Location Friendly staff
Size of the room too small and the ensuite was only separated from the main suite by a louvred door. Lack of privacy
The styling of the room was spacious and uncluttered with the perfect touch of heritage furnishing and decor. Location was central and suited my stay. Breakfast was a must have option and enjoyed a meal with friends one night and loved the wine list and food options offered.
a small in room dining table would be been a good addition for working on and enjoying a meal in the room.
Lovely comfortable room with sunny balcony. Great staff
