Excellent location with a lovely couple who keep a very beautiful and tidy home.
Lovely spacious 2 bedroom apartment with everything we needed. Very friendly, generous hosts. Comfy beds. Very clean and tidy. The banana bread was delicious, thanks. Recommend to all.
The host was absolutely fantastic, the rooms were so cozy, clean and comfortable. Home made banana bread was so yummy!
The hosts are super friendly. Lovely people, lovely place. Very clean and tidy.
Nothing, we enjoyed everything here.
Absolutely everything!
Perfect location for our holiday being just out of town was perfect and private.
Nothing
Had a great overnight stay here nicely breaking up our 2 week tour of the South Island. Paul the host was extremely helpful and did everything he could to make our stay as good as it could be. All the comforts of home where here combined with a great host so I'd recommend Awatuna Homestead to anyone.
Beautiful property Very clean and tidy Hosts were extremely accommodating and the welcome was great
Everything. Lovely hosts and clean house. The beds are super comfortable; we woke up to beautiful garden view outside the window. It was considerate to prepare various drinks (although we didn’t have chance to enjoy) aside from milk in the fridge, as well as candies and banana muffins (delicious).
None.
Paul and Lyndsey are fantastic hosts. We really regret booking only one night. Our room, or suite of rooms, was fantastic. Every little detail was taken care of including providing fruit, cake, drinks and milk. This really was one of our memorable stays in New Zealand. It was lovely to meet Jack, Jack's rabbit and Abbie the dog. You could tell our hosts took pride in the Homestead..
Good facilities in the self contained apartment. Friendly and helpful hosts. Value for money. It was clean, tidy and comfortable A quiet location except for one early morning train. close proximity to a number of locations.
Nothing.
We stayed with Paul and Lyndsey and Jack for 1 night only and were very sorry not to stay longer. The house is gorgeous and the room impeccable. I had the added experience of a ‘mini yoga lesson’ from their lovely grandson. Would love to stay again. Barbara and Martin, Ireland
Stayed overnight here on our NZ holiday. The owners were super friendly and obliging. Our 2-bedroom accommodation was an upstairs apartment attached (but separate) to the main house. Owners gave us tips on local sites and getting private access to the beach a short walk away, to beach-comb for jade stones. The apartment was beautifully appointed and supplied with more than we’d hoped for, including special treats. We could have stayed longer but the next step of our journey beckoned. Would definitely recommend.
This was easily the nicest accommodation that we stayed in during our 6 week tour of Australia and New Zealand. Lynsey and Paul are charming hosts who made us feel very welcome in their lovely home. The bed, bathroom and kitchen were top notch and we had the best nights sleep of our tour. We only heard the famous train once ! I wish the rest of our accommodation was as nice as the Homestead and that we were staying a few more days. Highly recommended 🏴
Really nice place we loved it. We had the apartment upstairs and it was wonderful.Everything you could possibly want for a night stay. We were warned about the train but we didn’t hear it. Lovely welcome. The best place we stayed at in New Zealand. If you’re thinking of staying there then do because it’s really worth it
Great location, lovely hosts and very clean, would definitely rebook on my next trip, thank you.
Host family is amazing welcome people.
Fill like home 🤗
Hosts were super friendly. Arrived to Anzac biscuits and had banana bread in the morning at 5am.
A wonderfully and high-quality furnished apartment with an extremely nice host. The banana bread and muffins that we were kindly given were very tasty.
Our apartment was exceptionally clean, well appointed and comfortable. Our hosts were thoughtful and friendly
We had a wonderful stay after a warm welxome with home made deliceous muffins and banana bread, some cold drinks and a nice apartment. The Homestead is a very special place, with love and character. Nothing you ll find very often. Lynley & Paul are wonderful hosts,
Really friendly, we were made to feel welcomed. Small touches went a long way.
Spacious, well appointed, clean, fresh muffins and banana bread
Nothing.
Great hosts with a lovely property
Nothing
A delightful property, which is the owner’s home but has ensuite rooms. We had a ground floor room, which was a good size. The hosts were fantastic. We decided to take up the offer of a home cooked evening meal (the property is a car ride away from the main towns), which was delightful. Would highly recommend.
It was a really gorgeous, beautiful property, a lovely location and the hosts were superb. The food was astonishingly delicious, perfectly served and highly recommended. The room was well appointed, warm and welcoming.

Lovely place to stay, the room was great (clean and tidy) and breakfast delicious. Home from home especially having the dogs in the yard. Paul and Lynley could not have been better hosts and very helpful in thinking about things to do. A great place to stay just outside Hokitika.
Hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast Was fantastic. The room was perfect aswell as the bathroom We enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable and well set up
Couldn’t fault it
Very clean
Fab place just outside of Hokitika, lovely hosts, well presented and maintained accommodation. Sadly we only had the one night here but would definitely recommend. West facing balcony with sea view where you can have a cold drink and watch the sun go down. Great touches by the host, cold beer and wine in the fridge plus home baked cakes. Quiet garden area downstairs if you’d prefer but all in all a great place to stop.
Lovely, short but sweet stay. We stayed here on our way down the West coast for only 2 night. We really didn’t stay long but enough to appreciate to comfortable room, really well designed and laid out with great amenities and touches - the beer, wine and cookies were nice as well as the toiletries provided. We had a really restful sleep and enjoyed a yummy breakfast the next morning with kiwi juice and homemade muffins and banana bread. Hokitika is a nice town - we got a pizza and ate it on the beach watching the sunset and aptly named sunset point and stopped off at the glow worm dell on the way back to the homestead. The owners Paul and Lyndley are friendly and it was great chatting to Paul at breakfast. Bonus we’re their two dogs who greeted you with howls when you get back - super cute! Really enjoyed the personal family style accommodation after some quite soulless hotels!
The breakfast was a spread! Lots of choices, could pick an option. Friendly hosts. Lovely garden view, quiet neighborhood. A little out of the way, but beautiful spot. Went out of their way to show me around.
The WiFi. Had some issues with it, but it was made up for by the wonderful hospitality.
Great quote location and very friendly people around. Home away from home.

We stayed 4 nights in the Self Contained Unit ( 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, lounge,& outdoor deck area ) and it was amazing, so clean & spacious! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could want, it even had a Nespresso coffee machine! The outdoor area leading out from the kitchen was a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness and garden views. Lynley and Paul were fabulous hosts and made us feel really welcome - we will definitely be back!!
Awatuna Homestead is beautifully appointed and tucked in a serene garden setting. Paul and Lynley are wonderful hosts, knowledgeable about the area and warm and welcoming. The breakfasts are delicious and we are repeat visitors to this haven.
We stayed 1 night on our way through the west coast. Lynley and Paul were very accomodating to our little family. Room was very comfortable and clean well organised with some great extra touches. Grounds were beautiful our son had a great time playing around the homestead. Breakfast was amazing, Lynley even gave us some freshed baked muffins for the long drive. We’d highly recommend a stay here on your west coast adventure.
Secluded an quiet.
The room is overpriced and extremely small. When we turned up at the door on the day, we were told insistently that we’d found the wrong place twice until we showed them your confirmation letter. The owner lady hadn’t checked first before her refusal of our entrance and made us feel so unwelcome. If it’s not because of the time of the day and our exhaustion, we’d have left and found another place. My husband and I are greatly disappointed.
This place was lovely and spacious and very friendly. The beach run in the morning was my absolute favorite...it’s a short jog to miles and miles of pristine beach. My only warning is for the ladies with long hair...bring your own conditioner! The type they had in the shower didn’t work at all and I had a ‘rat’s nest’ until the next time I washed it with my own conditioner.
The hosts were incredibly welcoming, the accommodation was clean, inviting and really homely, it was a delight staying there. The gardens were fantastic too.
What a great place! Staff are extremely helpful, professional and kind. Not much around in terms of modern conveniences but that’s part of the appeal.
Such an amazing stay! Most comfortable bed of our whole trip in NZ. The breakfast was super yummy with fresh baked banana bread, savory muffins, egg& cheese pies, fresh OJ and Kiwi Juice and more-- I'm still full from that breakfast. The location is great too-- close to town for dinner but lovely and quiet with a walking beach just across the road.
Homestead offers a perfect stay and welcome change to chain hotels. Hosts including two welcoming dogs are very obliging and hospitable. Rooms, common lounge area and gardens are all lovely for relaxing. We also enjoyed a short walk down to the beach at dusk. Dinner and breakfast both ample and freshly prepared to a high standard. Highly recommended.
The property was immacuately presented with every possible comfort. Mine hosts Paul & Lynley Truman were most charming and helpful, and our party of five was catered for wondefully with dinner and breakfast. Our tour over three weeks of the south Island of NZ included many accommodation places but none came close to Awatuna Homestead.
Nice and comfortable stay
Paul & Lynley welcomed us in their beautiful house, The room is fully equipped with a very confortable bed, a large bathroom, and a direct access to the romantic garden. After a good night, Paul and Lynley work hard early to prepare home made pies and cakes to make the breakfast unforgettable ! Thanks again for everything.
Loved this homestay. The owners gave us a very warm welcome to their attractive house. Our upstairs room and bathroom were large with a sit out balcony with all the conveniences you could want. The bed was large and comfortable, everything was very clean. Breakfast was home cooked with some lovely homemade bread, muffins and savoury tartlets. The house is in a rural location close to the sea but only 10 minutes drive to Hokitika.
We arrived to Hokitika on a very wet day and it looked like a very bleak place but Awatuna was waiting for us. The host Paul was friendly on arrival and took us to our room where he then presented us with 2 bottles of sparkling wine. We were then brought an aperitif because we said we were not going back into hokitika because of the weather. We couldnt have been better looked after. Our breakfast was outstandingall home cooked and fantstic array of food. My only disappointment was not being able to enjoy the garden due tothe weather.
We only stayed for one night but it was a most welcome stay after driving all day. The two bedroom apartment had everything we needed, the beds were comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge was cozy. The bathroom was lovely and included a bath as well as the shower, and it was a nice touch that bubble bath had provided as this had been missing in other accommodation that we had stayed during our trip that had a bath. We arrived fairly late in the evening but our hosts welcomed us and even though we hadn't ordered breakfast, Lynley bought us up egg and bacon pies and quiche the next morning which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. It was a very comfortable stopover for us and we would definitely stay again and would have been happy to have spent more time there if our trip had allowed.
I stayed here because of the five star reviews and it earned them once again. The grounds are well manicured and lush. The rooms are large and very, very clean. The hosts are gracious and welcoming. They truly care whether you enjoyed your stay or not and that is felt. I highly recommend staying here.
Wonderful spot in a quiet area. Owners are great people who truly care about your experience in their home. Exceptional food and lovely rooms.
We had a wonderful stay in this very special place. The hosts are incredibly kind and excellent cooks.
Lynley and Paul are wonderful hosts. They put their hearts into making it a great stay for their guests. Lynley, upon hearing that I am vegan fully accommodated me with a wonderful dinner. The nearby country roads are a great place for a bit of a walk about. In the morning, Lynley baked banana muffins from scratch which were also vegan (she even sent me on my way with an extra muffin which, due to staying in a rather remote spot the next evening, was my dinner!). You’ll without a doubt enjoy your stay.
Sorry we were only there one night. Dinner was excellent. Paul and Lynsey made us feel like family
Lyn's cooking delicious.
Wonderful in every way. Only limitation is no AIr Conditioning. Only matters if it is hot.
We had a lovely stay at Awatuna homestead unfortunately was only one night would have been nice to spend more time
Best part of the Awatuna Homestead is clearly what comes out of the kitchen. The couple that manage the place are absolutely adorable. The place is comfortable, very convenient and close to Hokitika and its airport. You can get to Pancake Rocks and Franz Josef easily from the Homestead. We recommend highly. Don't miss a visit to the Hokitika Gorge!
Quiet, countryside location, but only a 10 minute drive into town. Very comfortable throughout. Friendly and welcoming hosts. Highly recommended.
