It was 10 degrees when we arrived and all the windows were open to the room. The room was freezing. No info given on checkin. No outside light to see where the door key was to go.

I was surprised that there wasn't an extractor fan in the bathroom or at least being able to have the bathroom window partially open not wide open when unlatched. The heated towel rail in our unit was stained which doesn't look pleasant. Great to have a coffee plunger but not much use without coffee grinds. We didn't realise we had to bring our own.

The wall heater fan was super noisy! It was winter and cold when we stayed so needed the heater, we could not leave it on as we couldn't stand the noise and were worried about the other people next door hearing the vibrations. The bathroom tiles really needed a good scrub as they were stained behind the shower curtains against both walls.

Only a little niggle, after the first night towels an dish clothe etc we changed.We never got a fresh dish clothe or face clothes.I went to reception and there was no one around.Fair enough the all blacks were just about to play.

Reviewed Jul 10, 2026The unit was very clean, beds were comfortable and good pillows. The spa bath was wonderful and a real bonus. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Location good, across the road from the cinema and the Kaimoana fish and chip shop. We had a takeaway from there and it was delicious fish. A short walk brings you down to the front where there are shops and cafes. We would definitely stay again.
Whilst we weren't there to cook and the microwave & toaster were ample for our needs, a cook top might encourage longer stays.

Reviewed Jul 5, 2026The staff was super nice. I got an early check-in, and they were kind enough to store my bag after check-out. The lodge’s location is perfect: it’s only a 5-minute walk to the wharf from where the nature cruises start, and a 10-minute walk to the grocery store, to the pick-up point of the shuttle bus (Akaroa French Connection), and to the lighthouse. The apartment was spacious, yet the heater was able to warm up the place in no time. The bed was really comfortable.
The bathroom was a little bit rundown.

Reviewed Jun 26, 2026Stay here for one night, didn’t have a booking but I went into the office to get a room. You call the number on the desk, and talk to a very lovely lady. Strange not having a person on reception and you take the keys for a wee box on the desk. The rooms are dated and could do with an upgrade and refresh. It was clean and we had all we needed. A basic motel and nothing special.

I hadn't realised that there wasn't a stovetop so brought the wrong food with me, but had some things I could microwave instead, and mostly ate out anyway.
