Super close to the subway station and cllse to the best salt bread bakery. We had my son go pick this up for us every morning for breakfast!
lowk advertised as a hotel but its not and it’s musty AF, the room itself wasnt bad but def what u pay for, pros are that the shower water was hot and the room seemed clean but the building and area was awful (also super super uphill)
The host is very friendly and helpful. The place is in a great location, I loved going for a run every morning at the Namsan Ecological Preservation Area, just a 2-minute walk away.
The property was good, clean and affordable. The host was quite friendly and helpful.
Excellent location and the owner was very helpful and friendly.
There was no soap. And also no elevator. Otherwise big slay.
Great location. Safe at night but the HILL can get tiring
The location is excellent in regard to being close to the metro and excellent restaurants and coffee shops. The only negative point in the room is that the window shades do not keep the light out. As my room was facing the street, the street lights kept the room lit up all night. Overall a good cost-value ratio for its location.
Clean and comfortable. Warm, friendly and attentive service. Nearby subway, restaurants and city tour bus stop. Airport bus stop very close. Excellent value for money.
This place was the perfect little stay for my first trip to South Korea. It was close to everything you can think of in Myeong-dong. Everything was in walking distance, it made my trip so easy to navigate. I felt vey safe in the area. The owner was super nice and informative. I would absolutely stay here again.
It was very quiet and peaceful stay.
If you are looking for a very cheap place to stay, regardless of anything, this is the place you would like. The inside of the building is not clean, but the room is okay. However, there are significant safety issues that I would rather not discuss here. Anyone who wants to know more can email me. Overall, I do not recommend this place.
Generally the room was way better than it looks on picture. The location was also 5min away from the station, the host was super supportive and nice. I've stayed in guest house alot in seoul and I would definitely stay here again. Wont regret it.
The hotel is near to Myeongdong Station and it is easy to access to bus stop.
Nice quiet friendly well run hostel, the owner was friendly and very helpful, plus spoke English well. The only bad thing was excessively loud A/C unit in my room.
Amazing place, nice owners, very accommodating. He also called me a cab on my last day and made sure it got me to the right terminal. Would definitely stay again!
Great for myeongdong, but in quiet location. Walk is fine, yes up a hill but no bother. Very modern, clean and good facilities. Metro access easy. Not for party animals. All private rooms so not very sociable. Breakfast is just toast and juice. Staff friendly, but rarely around. Single washng machine rarely available. WiFi very good. Walls a bit thin for noise, but normal really.
Room was clean and facilities available were simple enough for me - solo traveller. The guesthouse is on a slope so be prepared to do a little climb. Otherwise it is at a good location, quiet but yet not far from eateries and shopping.
The owner of the building was so friendly and the location was perfect, close to the subway and a great view of namsan tower. The owners wife was extremely helpful when we needed a taxi. She tried several different companies until she found one for us. Would highly recommend this place. It is such a cute room if you want the whole korean experience.
The owner is very helpful and welcoming. but the room is a bit small
I was very pleased with this rental. It was clean and the owner provided us with a laundry machine and breakfast every morning. Location is excellent too!
Stayed here for a few days while in Seoul and loved it. Close to Myeongdong station so very convenient for public transport. 'The Hill' is literal as it's quite a walk up a hill to get there. Check-in was easy and the host was extremely friendly and helpful. You can help yourself to bread, toaster etc. at any time in the day not just at breakfast time. Wi-Fi in every room which worked well. Free laundry facilities which was really convenient. Only downside was that we were told check-out was at 10 but got asked to leave our room at 9:45 by a cleaner whilst we were eating breakfast. Also my pull-out bed didn't have a mattress cover just a blanket which slipped off every time I rolled over. Not massive downsides though and otherwise we had an excellent stay so would definitely come again.
The room and facilities are clean, the bed is comfortable. The hostel provides simple toast and juice for breakfast. The only drawback is that it is located on a slope, but it is near Myeondong Station (2 minutes walk) and cable car station to Namsan Park Seoul Tower (5 minutes walk). The manager of the hostel is very friendly.
The hotel is very close to Myeongdong station. The owner is very helpful. The room is small but overall is okay.
Great location. Tucked away in Myeongdong, it's in a quiet street but the main shopping street is just a 5 minute walk away. The cable car to reach Seoul Tower is also a 5 minute walk away, just going really uphill. Very close to Myeongdong Station, which made it easy to get to from Incheon airport via bus (also reachable via subway from Gimpo airport). The hotel is on a hill but it's not yet on the extreme end of the hill so carrying luggage is completely doable. Room itself was okay--it was rather small and very simple but we chose it more for the location and value. The bathroom is one where the shower head is attached to the sink so there's not a "real" shower and takes some getting used to. The free breakfast was self served bread, jam and butter, and orange juice. We bought our own breakfast at the many convenient stores nearby every morning instead. There is no fridge or kettle within the room, just a communal kitchen downstairs.
very good, everything just nearby, except it's on the hillside
This guest house was convenient and affordable. We appreciated the laundry facilities and the room was functional, though a bit small for two people with luggage. I would stay here again if I come back through Seoul. The only disappointment was the breakfast--it was just a loaf of white bread left on the kitchen counter.
This place had reasonable price. Quite clean and comfortable stay. Location was not too bad but walking up the hill was not funny with luggages.
Nice clean room, loved having a private bathroom. Disappointed in the breakfast options - one morning a few of the eggs available for cooking were rotten so we gave up on those, the next morning there were no breakfast items left for us at all due to a large group getting there first and eating them all! Also wish there had been more security (front door is never locked and no locked luggage storage option on your last day). But great location!
The owner of the guesthouse was very friendly & the checkin process was easy. It's about a 7-8 mins walk from Myeongdong station Exit 3 :) Nearby the station had several eateries too! Simple breakfast was provided which was very very much appreciated by my friends and I. However, if you have very large luggages, i wouldn't recommend to stay here because there's no elevator in the guesthouse.
The owner was really friendly and nice. The location of the guesthouse is perfect, it is close to Namsan hill and the shopping area Myeongdong. To get to the guesthouse, you need to go on a tiring uphill walk. There is also a halal restaurant nearby, which is convenient for Muslim travellers. There is also a kitchen at the guesthouse, and the breakfast menu include white bread, jam, butter, eggs, tea and coffee. Toaster and induction cooker were also provided. You can also get free flow of hot/warm/cold water. The room was small but cozy. Room amenities include shower gel, shampoo and hairdryer. However, only small face towels were provided. There was no facial tissues either. The room that I stayed in has an attached bathroom and in-room wifi. However, only one device could connect to the room wifi. Not sure if it's because of a limit or because of device problem. I also wish that there are more plug points in the room.
4 reasons why I love my stay here and will definitely be back when I visit Seoul again: 1) Location – It’s near Myeongdong Station so it is easier for you to go around Seoul. The stop for airport bus is also near so you can opt to take the bus to/from Incheon Airport. It is also near Myeongdong area where the shops and street food are. It is walking distance to the cable car station going up to NSeoul Tower. The only downside of this place is that it is located uphill and it will really test how fit you are. 2) Clean and cozy room – Our room is small but it’s clean and really cozy. It has the basics like A/C, hot shower, TV, and comfortable bed. 3) Budget – A clean and cozy room in a very nice location at a cheap price with a strong wifi and free breakfast, what more can you ask for? 4) Accommodating owner, who patiently answered our questions and concerns.
Nice place to stay, walking distance to Namsan tower and myeong-dong. Good cardio exercise going uphill :-)
Stayed here for 4 nights and the room was clean, comfortable and fit for purpose. The only downside of the room was the bathroom which was a but small. Breakfast was alright if you were up early but if you were up later it got a bit crowded. Location was good and quiet. Good place to stay for a few nights.
Guest House the Hill is a highly recommended property. The owner, Kidae was very accommodating and helpful with all our needs during our first time in Seoul. The comfort and location is the best part of the stay. Walking distance from Myeongdong, a shopping haven and accessible to subway station. We will definitely be back again!
THIS GUEST HOUSE IS CLOSE TO THE TRAIN STATION, AND A BUSY SHOPPING AREA. KIDAE AND HIS EMPLOYER-JUNG WERE HELPFUL IN SUGGESTING PLACES TO VISIT, AND ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR QUESTIONS. WHEN I ENTERED THE PLACE, THE KITCHEN SINK WAS FULL OF DIRTY DISHES. WHEN ASKED, JUNG SAID THERE WAS A PARTY THE NIGHT BEFORE. SO I CHOSE TO BUY MY OWN MUG. THE CULTURAL PRACTICE OF REMOVING SHOES ON ENTERING A HOME, MADE THE SMALL ENTRANCE UNTIDY, AND NOT PLEASING TO LOOK AT, WITH THE SHOES ON THE STAIRS. THE PRACTICE OF USING SMALL BATH TOWELS, WAS SURPRISING. THEY DID PROVIDE US WITH AS MANY AS NEEDED. A BATHROOM OPENS UP INTO THE KITCHEN, AND MOST OFTEN THE DOOR IS OPENED AND THE TOILET SEAT OPENED. PLEASE TELL HIM TO MAKE A POINT OF KEEPING IT CLOSED. PUT A SIGN ON IT. OVERALL, IT WAS A PLEASANT STAY.
It is a great place to stay in Myeongdong area but more for people with minimal luggages as you have to carry your own luggages down from your room (1st, 2nd & 3rd floors) to ground floor when you check out. Also there is a bit of walk uphill needed to this guesthouse from Myeongdong station. Kitchen area is crowded when there is more than 6 people having meals at the same time. However you can grab Isaac sandwich on your way to Myeongdong station instead.
Conveniently located to explore Namsan-Dong area including N-Tower and the Namdeamun Market area. Closest Metro-Station is Meyong-dong which is very convenient to get around. The room I was in had very thin doors/walls, not soundproof at all. You literally hear everything in the other rooms and hallway which I find a quite uncomfortable. Room itself had a "very firm" mattress, TV, aircon and a small bathroom toilet/shower. Although breakfast is included I didn't go for it as it is basic as you'd expect (toast, jam, hard boiled egg) and there's a great cafe just down the street. The owner is very friendly and helpful and has lots of good advice.
Excellent location, nice staff. Overall, a good place to stay. Nothing more, nothing less.
Stayed here for one night with 3 of my students before I had to fly back home. Location was perfect- got to love the short walk to the metro station despite it being a little steep up the hill but good exercise nonetheless. Room was small but decent and the owner is very friendly and helpful. Gave good advice on directions to take the airport limousine bus- the stop is a short 7 minute walk down the hill across the road. Very cozy and comfortable common area to hang around and the wifi is excellent! Only downside was the sink was leaking but it did not have much of an impact. Bed was comfortable and individual lockers with a key are provided for storage of shoes. Will definitely be back!
This was my second trip to Seoul and my re-chose the this place as previous experiance convinced me that this place offers the comfort I needed. True indeed. Kidae (the owner) did not disappoint me. The place is still cozy and clean. The bed is sufficient and the bathroom (though small) is prim and proper. all needed for a good night rest Very close to MyeongDong and the subway...a haven location Never doubted the hilly walk back to the hotel and along the way various restaurants and outlet entice me with surprises.
Good location near subway. The room was clean and functional. Beds were very hard. Plenty of hot water for shower but towels were size of hand towels.
We stayed here for 6 nights and had a brilliant time. It is in a great location in Myongdong which has everything you need especially shopping. It is up a slight hill but at the bottom is a subway station. The owner is very nice and helpful and you can use all the amenities there. It is self service and limited house keeping so don't expect hotel service on that front. They also give you great information on getting around Seoul. The Seoul tower cable car is also just at the top of the hill. Great place to stay for location at a cheaper price!
Great room and helped us a lot by keeping hold of bags on two occasions even though we only stayed one night
We stayed here for a week and we didn't have any issues. The room is clean and tidy plus the wifi is very strong. It is very accessible to the subway, shopping market and restaurants. We'll definitely book here again this year.
The owner, Mr Kidae was very friendly and helpful. Nice free breakfast we had, loved the biscoff spread! Some quite steep walking distance (about 3 minutes walk from Myeong-Dong station) but the weather was so nice I didn't mind at all.
I stayed in the guesthouse for 2 (non-consecutive) nights: 1 night in a double room on the top floor and 1 night in a single room on the second floor. The guesthouse is fairly easy to find if you follow the instructions from its website. The closest metro station is Myeongdong. The walk from the metro stop is steep in the last meters and there is no elevator; keep this in mind if you have heavy luggage. I didn't meet the owner on the first day but was welcomed by a nice lady who didn't speak English but was able to explain the basics to me. The owner speaks good English and communication with him was very smooth when I arrived very late at night for my second stay. Both rooms were simple and clean. Maybe some more decoration would be good. The single bed was not as slim as I expected it to be. The bathroom is quite small. Shampoo and shower gel are provided but no big towels. There is free WiFi. A simple breakfast was included. There is a fridge and a kitchen, so you can prepare food. Within close proximity of the guesthouse are Namsan Tower and the Namsangol Hanok Village. I also walked to Namdaemun Market, Deoksugung, Seoul Museum of Art and the City Hall/Seoul Plaza (I'll leave it up to you if it is really walking distance). Overall, it was a hassle-free stay and I recommend it to everyone looking for a simple option.
-boss communication skill was very good in English , so dun worry .... 5 star -no lift in the place so remember dun bring too much things with u because u may need to carry ur heavy item to third floor .. 3 star -room was clean but small .. and toilet is even more small .. 2 star -will recommended to friends who was in budget trip
Really convenient location, close to subway and shops. Ideal if you don't plan to spend much time in your room, as they are clean but very small. There was a removable shower head fitted next to the bathroom sink, but no shower cubicle. Avoid the room on the first floor next to the smoking terrace, you might be woken up by the noise or the smoke smell, and you will have to keep your window shut. The free breakfast is toast, a boiled egg and fruit juice or coffee/tea. There is a kitchen where you can cook your own though. The staff was friendly and helpful, and spoke English well, but they are not around 24 hs. The TV only played Korean language channels. Overall, I would stay there again if I visited Seoul for a few days only.
The Hill Guesthouse has a great location, but in a place like Myeongdong which is saturated with guesthouses, hotels and everything you could possibly want, this doesn't really give it an edge. Like others have said, it is located on a very steep hill and carrying up heavy luggage doubles the pain. This however is probably balanced out by the station and the bustling streets of Myeongdong being a mere 10 minutes walk away. There is also a 24 hour convenience store just down the hill for all your late night cravings which is nice. I travelled solo and with full intentions of making friends with the people at the guesthouse, so I was very shocked when for the majority of the time during my stay I was the only one there! This was very disheartening, so please be aware of your dates you friend-seeking solo travellers out there! Additionally, the walls are paper thin and I could hear the conversations of people out in the corridor, this woke me up a few times in fact but that was just because I slept in late. I stayed in a single room, and it was perfectly adequate. The bathroom was clean, although it took a long time for the water to be hot enough for me to be able to take a shower. The bed is comfy and I had no problems sleeping, though I would say bring a pillow along. I didn't really speak to the manager much, but he seemed perfectly nice, although I wished he would have cleared up his expectations of me on departure day. I think my English was a bit too fast for him because he misunderstood me once or twice, but overall his grasp over English is good. Last but not least, the price. The price I paid was more then fair I believe. So for budget conscious travellers, this may be your ideal choice. Overall, for a weary traveller this is a perfectly adequate place to stay to rest his or her head. Would I stay here again? Probably not, there's so many more places for me to check out and The Hill Guesthouse didn't make me fall in love with it.
My month of visit was June 2013! Forgot the full name of it so only managed to review on it now. This accommodation is definitely the one you should choose if your itinerary is to shop till you drop at myeongdong. Cleanliness is A grade! Little kitchen for simple meal is great! Nice room and their bed is really superb, especially after a fun n tiring day out! I would definitely go back to this guesthouse again if I'm visiting seoul again! Really hope to meet up with the super sincere and nice boss of this guesthouse soon!
Stayed in Guesthouse the Hill because it was at myeongdong. Just across the main shopping district. Venue was good as it's accessible to most places we visited as well. Though it's situated up the slope, the guesthouse is still considered accessible. Hospitality from the owner of guesthouse- Mr Kidae was good. We can speak comfortably in English with him. He was also helpful when we needed to book the taxi to the airport on the last day. The guesthouse cleanliness was also good. Me and my boyfriend stayed on the 3rd level for the first 5 days and the room is quite big and comfortable. There was still walking space even with our luggage. However, when we returned from Jeju and stayed for the last 3 days, we changed to the 2nd floor room. It was very small and after opening our luggages, there were no space for walking at all. Generally, we feel comfortable staying at the guesthouse, be it the safety, cleanliness, hospitality, location and value for money. We highly recommend it if you want to stay near myeongdong and N Seoul Tower. :)
My friend recommended Guesthouse the Hill based on her good experience when they were in Seoul last November 2014. Making reservation was easy since Mr. Kidae promply replied to my emails. Making payment was also convenient because I paid our downpayment using my credit card thru paypal invoice (i don't even need to have a paypal account) then paid the balance in cash when we got there. We also appreciate that Mr. Kidae answered all our inquiries and helped us even if it's not about our room reservation (like about cherry blossom festival, tickets to Nami Island etc.). He also speaks good english so when in doubt, you can always ask him. When we arrived, we had a hard time finding the guesthouse even if we were following the instructions on how to get there. However, once we found it and had our stay for 4 days, I can say that the location is very good because 1.) it is near Myeongdong station, 2.) a lot of restaurants and convenient stores in the area 3.) also near to some tourist attractions like you can walk going to Namsanggol Hanok Village, Namsan Tower cable car station and Myeongdong shopping area. We stayed in the Family Room (good for 4 persons) for 2 nights then had to move to the Triple room and paid for extra bed for the next 2 nights. The rooms were clean and make us feel at home but we just had a little problem with space when we moved to the Triple room. Nevertheless, Mr. Kidae informed us about this beforehand and we agreed to stay here but it was just unfortunate that the family room was not available during our whole 4 days stay. The room includes a TV but we weren't able to figure out how to use it since when we turn it on everything was in Korean. We could have asked for help but it would be nice if there's an english instruction included in the room. We also enjoyed the free Wi-Fi in our room and the free breakfast which includes bread, butter, cream cheese, jelly, eggs, coffee and tea. Overall, we are pleased with our stay in the Guesthouse The Hill. Would definitely recommend this guesthouse to friends.
My family arrived quite late at Seoul and had a hard time looking for the guesthouse, even to the point of getting lost. But with the help of a kind taxi driver, we found the place and Mr. Kide, the owner, waiting for us despite the late hour! The place itself was actually very quaint. It was very close to a Mini Mart, a 7-11 and several restaurants. One of the restaurants around is Two Two Chicken, which is something you shouldn't miss if you stay here! The Guesthouse was very close to the busy street of Myeongdong and Myeongdong Station, and if you fancy a longer walk, you can walk to the base of N Seoul Tower. The room that we were able to book was spacious for three, we each had a bed to ourselves. The warm blankets and heated floors were such a relief after experiencing the bitter cold of Spring. Breakfast was always pleasant, there was always a ready feast of eggs, sausages, (both of which you had to cook yourself), toast, juice and coffee. The dining area was a shared space, allowing us to interact with the other boarders at the time, and Mr. Kide was always at his mini-office by the entrance. He was a very kind, willing and helpful host, not to mention that he spoke impeccable English, which helped us a lot when we asked for directions on how to go around Seoul.
