Hostal Vázquez de Mella

Yes

Great location and a very clean room with all the essentials. Ideal for a short stay.

Loved the location and the service was also great!

The location is perfect ! loved the neighborhood. close to shops and restaurants, transportation and things and places to see. Happy to have the elevator. The room was good, nothing to make complaints about - our room was quiet, it faced the inside courtyard … but mentioning coffee is for a small fee in the “lobby” , I would have preferred a softer pillow and a few amenities, I would have also preferred softer towels. Our room was small but cozy. The staff was kind, we checked in early for a small fee.

Clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient! Great area, firm bed, we slept very well, close to transport. We loved this place. Highly recommended.

Walkable to the city.

The room itself was very clean and location was great for the price. However beds werent very comfy and the noise coming from slamming doors and people chatting outside the room until 2am in the morning made it difficult to sleep

Nice place to stay. Very central and when you close the windows, it’s very quiet. The people are very friendly. We would be happy if they were a little frig to put are water bottles. But overall everything was OK and also the price for the localisation

Clean, convenient

Very convenient

Good location, the personnel always willing to help.

I had a deeply disappointing stay at this hotel in August 2025, primarily due to the air conditioning being completely non-functional. With temperatures soaring outside, the room was unbearably hot, making it impossible to sleep or relax comfortably. I informed the front desk multiple times, but the staff seemed indifferent !

love it

Clean convenient

The hostel is in a great neighborhood, the plaza is lively, the views are phenomenal. The building is old and unique with wooden staircase and ornate railings. There is an elevator too. The hostel is very clean with large rooms. Staff speaks English and is very welcoming. We only stayed for one night but enjoyed it.

I was traveling with my 83 year old mother. There was a step up into the bathroom and you had to step into the shower. It was not safe for her to use the shower. A suction cup grab bar was provided but it was not stable and she was worried of falling. We only had sheets on our beds when we arrived. We asked for blankets and we were told none could be provided to us. I was shocked. I was able to get one large blanket for my mother. Only after contacting Expedia was I able to get a small blanket for myself that would be suitable for a 2 year old child. All other amenities had to be paid for (small fridge and safe). The location was good but was not good value for money. I paid for a balcony that we could not sit on. Our room wasn’t cleaned in a timely manner. I would strongly recommend a hotel to my fellow travellers.

super recommended !

Great location, very clean and helpful at reception. The room was good for the price.

Personal muy atento y servicial. Todo el hostal y el edificio limpio.

A great, basic hotel in a fantastic location.

Nope, you’re asking too much here.

The place would’ve been much better if the beds were more comfortable. The bathroom is function, but they’re incredibly small if you’re a big person.

Property was very clean, our stay was perfect, location, quiet, staff went above and beyond we left an item behind and they asssited on getting him to us.

Staid here for my trip to Madrid. The hotel is easy to find. They have an elevator to get your luggage up to the 3rd floor where the hotel is. They share the building with other hostals. The staff was friendly and spoke English, but rather reserved. If you are from U.S. this just seems to be a cultural aspect to Madrid. The location is great. If is within 1 mile of every major tourist spot. The only downside is the hotel has marble floor so sound carries very widely and you can hear conversations in nearby rooms. It was very quiet at night however. I had a room away from the plaza and it was quiet at night. They do not have any amenities or a big lobby so it’s basically a room. The room was plain but very clean and comfortable.

Great stay if

Evrrything was adequate for the price given this being Madrid.

Fantastic area, right on a nice square. GREAT staff who made me feel welcome and comfortable right away. Pretty room with doors that opened onto the courtyard. Tiniest bathroom you can imagine, but it was all mine! : ) Just the right amount of room for one person (although I do think that room can be booked for 2, which would have been tight). Pretty stairway and entry area. Very safe neighborhood full of bars, shops of all kinds, and easy access to metro.

Cleanliness and friendly personnel

Spotless simple minimalist design with a really good test. Friendly and helpful crew

Nos gustamos el balcón en nuestra

The only problems: TV was not working A/C was not working

booked Room with Twin beds but said it was yold booked with single double bed.. did not help to accommodate. it is kind of pricey for what the hotel offers

and super nice room. Great price and location. Would stay here again.

Simple and small room but comfortable and perfect for what we wanted. Perfectly situated near lots of bars and a short walk to Gran Via metro.

Very nice. Great quality for low price.

Great location, friendly staff, rooms are spacious and cleaned each day. Small desk was a nice surprise.

Soo nice and quiet

Check in good with friendly staff. Room nice size although bathroom tiny. No Hairdryer and the worst towels we have come across for a hotel (think sandpaper). Bring shampoo.. Room noisy inside and outside. Our room was above and across from two clubs. Other rooms may have been better.

Great area, lots to see and do

The receptionist was helpful. A friend could not come and the receptionist obtained an upgraded room for us.

The staff are great. A friend could not come and I could not cancel that reservation, so the staff upgraded our room great staff.

Great place, really convenient location for shopping and night life. The staff was super friendly and helpful

Really sweet place. Great location, central and close to transportation. Place was very clean and nice. Only draw back is it can get loud at night.

Staff are friendly and accommodating. They allowed us to store our suitcases before check in so we can explore Madrid on our own. Hotel is safe and secured at all times. Only guests can come in and out with the keycard. The rooms are clean. Happy with our stay

The room was so small you could barely move. The bathroom was so small you had to sit sideways on the toilet. The towels were like sandpaper. That place is a nightmare and I’m not picky.

Excellente location Friendly environment and very clean

Nice comfortable and great location

The property was clean and staff were great. The only thing was the bed only had a top sheet and fitted sheet. We first thought maybe it was over looked. My husband asked if we could get a blanket or another sheet. He was refused. This is our first time staying at a place that you only received a top sheet and no blanket. The downstairs door to the building didn't lock.

Everything was very organized, clean, pleasant stay. We recommend it.

Noise

A very pleasant compact place to stay.

Very helpful and friendly staff

Stayed here for two nights. Booked online with no issues. Chose this place because the location is amazing, the price was good, the room was private and had everything I needed- and most importantly, accepts PayPal!! (No credit card) Room was clean, above average bed & nice linens, balcony overlooking Plaza de Pedro Zerolo.

The location is very convenient. The only problem is that it’s noisy during the night, but maybe it was a problem just in the part that we stayed: sounds of the bar nearby all night long.

Good

I really loved this hotel! I stayed in a room with my 2.5 year old. It's clean, safe, comfortable, and calm. Gorgeous window with balcony. Friendly staff. No frills, but for the price , really you can't ask for more! Yes you can hear noises from the street - it's in the center of Madrid and in the gay district so of course it's party central. BUT, fortunately it's mostly just people talking and not like booming bass, and, the thick windows muffle enough of it that with my phone playing white noise on full volume and ear plugs (something I do anyway at home), I slept just fine, and I'm a light sleeper. Although, that said, I saw them setting up for a concert the day we left so there may be exceptions to this during pride week. Probably fine other times though. Minor annoying things but not big deal - shower is tiny, and the AC blew on my face where my bed was. Fortunately they gave me an extra blanket. Nice fleece throws.

The stuff are helpful.

I did not know when I booked the hotel that it was a shared bathroom. My room was just OK and the bathrooms were kept clean so that was good. They did serve nice continental breakfast in the morning with a nice selection of fresh breads. They had a nice size dining room and kitchen so I could make myself a cup of tea every morning in the kitchen.

Great place, very clean and confortable. Location was excellent and staff were friendly. Highly recommend and would for sure stay here again. Overall great service!

Excelente

Nice places close to everything. Safe area

Good area, apartment extremly small, elevator did not work

Wile the rooms seemed a bit small initially they where always impeccable.while the building externally seems tired, the Hostal Vasquez shows all new materials and are always clean and flawless. Reception Staff deserves a separate congratullation for being friendly and helpful.

Great place to stay

Great

Very pleasant hotel in great location. Staff were extremely helpful.

The location is definitely the best part, it’s near Gran via and Chueca. It’s very quiet at night. Room and bathroom were very clean. Room was a little small. Staff was really friendly. my only complaint is that the stairs are wood and very slippery, I fell down the stairs. There is an elevator. Area is safe

I was a bit concerned when I first saw the outside of the building, However I was wrong. It has lots of character, is very comfortable and the staff was VERY helpful and friendly.

Excellent location.

homeless people defecating and urinating on plaza area, pick pockets waiting for opportunities, one unkempt guy tried to grab my wallet but I fought back and scared him away! I guess I was just lucky! Great Area! the center of tourism.

Overall a very nice and comfortable place to stay in the center or the city. Great breakfast option for only 10€ with the hotel in front of the street. 3 min walk to Gran Via Metro Station and a diverse food options around the hostal area. The price resembles more the location rather than the services, and if you are looking for something center and medium budget, it’s worth it to stay here.

Liked: great location, old style, comfortable bed, very clean, nice warm welcome from young female staff. Disliked: work being being carried out both days - loud banging in the afternoons when we were trying to nap. Older staff on reception much less friendly - borderline rude. Someone’s old sock left on balcony.

The soap in de bathroom was water

Photos are misleading

You get what you paid. It was OK for the price. It is hostal in a very good location. There is nothing particularly comfortable and there was a small window facing and internal small empty space in the middle of the building. It was like being in a cave. We weren't able to change the heating of the room and it was boiling. You could hear people in other room and noises coming from the window that we needed to keep open to be able to breath in the room.

First , be clear that this is a hostal , not a hotel. The one good thing about it was the central location and Safe area. The room with two single beds was tiny even by Spanish standards. Barely any space for two small adults and two suitcases. Sitting in the toilet, my knees hit the opposite wall (!!) and I’m 5 feet tall. The tiny bathroom overall was a claustrophobic experience and no ventilation. The front desk sent me a message (good communication) that The heat (old school radiators) was not working and instructed me to pick up at the front desk the remote control for the more modern AC/heating unit .When I went to get the remote control, there was no one at the front desk , I tried twice. It was a pretty cold December night. Do not recommend unless budget is your priority.

Close to Gran Via, bars and restaurants. It is not fancy but is a safe and confortable place

Good base in Madrid and bed was nice and comfortable.

No English channels on the small tv . Toiletries could be better Location is very good - Good for economy travelers

Nice room, bathroom too small but for the price is right…

Nothing fancy, but clean and adequate! A double room did feel small with me and my partner (bathroom especially - shower is very tight and hard to avoid flooding over side of the tub) but for a few days it was fine ! Staff cleaned our room every day and the location- right in the heart of Cheuca- can’t be beat. Helpful staff, and the hostal felt very safe. Theres also an option to buy a ticket to a breakfast buffet at a nearby hotel Which was very good. Overall I am Satisfied and would stay here again next time I am in Madrid

Staff was really friendly. Clean

We would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Cleanliness and service were excellent. The location could not have been better with tourist sights, the Gran Via, and other shopping streets with restaurants closeby. It was good value for the money. L and D

Muy Buena ubicación!

Very good location, with friendly staff and nice clean rooms. Very good value for money.

Excellent location, only one block from Grand Via Kristina was very kind as a professional, she answered all our questions and find the tours to Segovia and Toledo also City Tours Will be back next time in Madrid

We thought the room would be too small so cancelled 2nd stay but after being in the room on the first stay we realized it was comfortable and plenty big enough…

Excellent location and excellent customer service, the only drawback was a little old but I noticed that is normal in the historic area so I won't penalize them for that in my score.

The staff was kind and held our bags on our last day while we walked Madrid. Felt safe and close to Metro. Would stay there again.
