Reviewed Aug 27, 2025The hot springs, including private ones, are amazing (and sulphurous), and so are the views from the hotel. The food is simple and good, both at dinner and at breakfast. On the other hand, rooms have cheesy smell to them, probably from mold; wifi is very weak.

Reviewed May 4, 2025スタッフの皆さんの暖かい対応が素敵でした。温泉は硫黄泉でとても温まり肌がしっとりします。内湯も露天風呂も掃除が行き届いて気持ちよかった。 部屋と露天風呂からは山々の眺望と、新緑・ツツジ・鳥の囀りが気持ちを落ち着けてくれました。 食事は豪華ではありませんが、一品ずつ丁寧に作られていて色々な芋焼酎と楽しみました。 忘れ物もすぐに自宅宛てにお送り頂いて感謝しています。また訪れたい宿です。

Overall the room was great, but the futons were the hardest, least comfortable of the trip. Meals however were excellent, and we very much enjoyed the outdoor baths.

Reviewed Jul 16, 2024Amazing experience but a bit odd… we took public transportation which I would not recommend. It took most of the day to get to from Fukuoka. With bad storms, the local train service was temporarily cancelled. Given we had no car and the ground was very wet there was nothing to do but stay put. The hotel staff was very friendly and tried to help us navigate our journey back. The onsen experience was our first and was amazing. Overall the property is very dated and sleepy. The food was disappointing but the dining room views were stunning!

Seems guests must order additional dishes to make up a full dinner. Should be even better in case there is routine shuttle bus schedule taking guests to area near tourists centre.

Reviewed May 27, 2024キャンセルが出てたまたま予約できたのでとても嬉しかったです。 貸し切り露天風呂目当てでしたが、満足でした。ただ、板壁をもう少し広く設置していただいた方がより開放感があってよかったと思います。 外国の方が多く働いていらっしゃいますが、丁寧で気持ちがよかったです。 15分ほど歩いた山の中にある滝も素晴らしかったです。

Reviewed Mar 23, 2024Merveilleux séjour. Pensez à réserver votre bain privé auprès du ryokan. Communication par mail excellente. Nous y avons très bien mangé. C'était très copieux. Personnel très bien dans l'ensemble et certaines personnes sont même chaleureuses. J'ai pu échanger avec une serveuse sur nos habitudes alimentaires en France et le reps qu'on nous proposait. Belle conversation. Le bain privé est super et le bain publique aussi. Atmosphère propice à la détente. Navette gratuite de l'arrêt de bus à l'hôtel. Bagagerie gratuite à l'office de tourisme de Maruo. Le personnel de l'hôtel a transporté nos affaires pour 9h à l'office du tourisme, car nous ne pouvions pas les emmener nous même (départ de rando à 8h30 oblige). Fabuleux séjour !

The forest trails near the hotel give travelers an alternative experience, and they can also see wild deer. The hotel is integrated with nature. Dinner and breakfast were both very good and we had a pleasant evening here.

Reviewed Oct 5, 2023鹿児島に行く際には必ずこちらの宿にお世話になります。 宿の各所にゆったりと自分時間を過ごせる空間が作られています。蔵書の数も多いのですが、アートや読書を楽しめるような空間作りが素晴らしく、図書コーナーがあるホテルは他にもありますが、旅行人山荘さんは一人一人が滞在中にリラックスし、静かに自分の時間を持てるように配慮いただいている気がします。スタッフの皆様も国際色豊かで、皆さんゲストの滞在が快適であるように心を配ってくださっています。清掃も隅々までされており施設は古いもののとてもきれいで、素晴らしい宿だと思います。

Reviewed Apr 16, 2023This was our last stay on our 28 day holiday in Japan and was a wonderful way to finish. Our room on the 3rd floor had a wonderful view, despite Sakurajima being mostly hidden for the 3 days we were there. Staff were all very helpful and friendly and many of them spoke a little bit of English. The kaiseki dinners provided an excellent variety but an english menu would have been helpful. We experienced 2 of the 4 private onsens available on site. There was no additional fee for this, but they book out very quickly, particularly in the evening. There is a toilet and shower in the room, but the hot water is very slow to arrive, so shower at the onsen's is the recommended option. This was an excellent secluded location to enjoy hiking in the Kirishima Kinkowan NP or a day trip to Kagoshima.

Reviewed Dec 25, 2019Staff are so friendly and understand English well. High quality of food and hot spring are impressive. The hotel sounds traditional but is well maintained. Will book again if I go to Kirishima again.

Reviewed Nov 4, 2019I really like the staff and the environment. The walk around the property is a great experience. The outdoor onsen is a must do! The walk to the falls is so exciting that no kid should be allowed to do it by themselves.

Reviewed Apr 12, 2019The hotel is really old, but everything is is good condition. We enjoyed the private soaking, with lots of privacy and in the midst of nature. The walk into the woods was pleasant and the fresh morning air was delightful!
