We arrived late but the owner had turned the heaters on so the place was warm and inviting. The whole cottage is clean , comfortable , well equipped and a pleasure to stay in.
It was perfect for us.
Absolutely perfect for our weekend in Hawera Clean , very comfortable, well equipped kitchenette and a quiet location surrounded by well tended gardens.
The property had nothing to dislike about it.
The hosts are incredibly considerate and accommodated our every need.
Tranquil setting lovely hospitality
Wonderful and Linda is a perfect hostess
This place is charming, with everything we needed for a delightful, relaxing stay.
Very nice cottage in a large beautiful garden The owner (Linda) was very helpful in getting back an iPad which was forgotten in the previous hotel.
Nothing
Old time charm with modern convenience. The property is fantastic with beautiful gardens. Service oriented owner . One of a kind if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle but still be close to grocery stores etc. The cottage even has a hot tub. Had breakfast on the sunny front porch. Wish we could have stayed longer.
It was unique comfortable had all the facilities and utensils for a longer stay lovely extras and continental breakfast included was lovely 😊

What a fantastic cottage. The house is very well maintained and the daily upkeep from the owners was unobtrusive and efficient. We would stay here again, given the opportunity.
Amazing stay!! Make sure you have enough time to enjoy the gardens and chat with the hosts!
anyone who is lucky enough to stay here will have a fabulous time. Location, property , decor are amazing. Very comfortable and fit the age of the property. Very private setting, amazing garden/view and a hot tub. An added touch was the lovely Christmas tree/decor set up prior to arrival and the lovely macarons too. lovely veranda to sit out on for breakfast/drinks. Lovely lounge area. Robes and towels provided etc
some cleaning cloths/ xmas decs boxes left out on dining table 2 days running. Lots of cobwebs hanging from ceiling to curtains in all rooms. probably a small loaf of bread would have been slightly better than a few small slices slices in cling film
This is a fantastic property! Fabulous gardens and vegetation, beautiful and very large accommodations, great owner. It's a 10!
Beautiful gardens and a lovingly restored historic home. Friendly host with a wonderful continental breakfast in a warm tastefully decorated dining room with every detail carefully attended to
Lovely spot good value for a group or family
This is my second stay at Tairoa Lodge. It is a beautifully restored house with kauri floors and staircase, set in a large garden. Outside, the kauri trees, although young for kauri trees, are magnificent. Linda was an attentive host with a good eye for the details that make your stay memorable. Highly recommended for a taste of historic New Zealand.
Location, convenience to event attended, quiet, rural but not too rural - space in the house, inviting on arrival as it was warm, lighting on, felt welcoming and private. It was lovely not to worry about breakfast as it was provided and enjoyable. Great communication from the host.
The only comment we all had was the shower was low pressure and the hotter shower was all the way around on the dial. This did not deter our overall experience. We were grateful for everything - thank you,
Loved my stay!
Great place to stay, thanks for the wonderful hospitality
communication was great and our last minute request to stay an extra night was no problem.
Absolutely stunning accommodation, lovely cottage, warm and homely in a lovely garden setting. Can’t wait to plan another trip, will certainly be booking in again.
Can’t fault this at all.
Linda was a wonderful host. Great room and breakfast. Would stay again!
Excellent service beautiful cottage quiet location and sense of luxury throughout
nice country side, plenty of room easy access
nothing
Location, space, had everything we needed and Breakfast
Beautiful cottage, stunning gardens quiet location, beautiful decor and furnishens, not modern but stylish
There was nothing to dislike unless you like very modern designs
Absolutely the loveliest setting in a unique heritage home. Wonderful features especially the claw foot tub.
This place is so nice. An old house with old wooden furnitures. The kitchen has all you need, the large bedrooms. There’s a dish washer, a washing machine and an oven. Breakfast in the fridge for your own service. You can park your car outside the house. We liked this place very much. A pool you can use at the main house.
It got really hot in the house when the sun was shining.
Free breakfast was provided. Really lovely- bread, muesli, yoghurt, fruit, even a little platter of homemade slice for us to enjoy. The location was ideal if you have a car- about a 2 min drive into the town of Hawera. We didn't expect the Gatehouse to be so big- it was a huge historical house with three big bedrooms (a queen bed in each) and a sofa bed in the games room.
We loved everything. If we had to be really picky, it's that there was only the one bathroom with the toilet inside the bathroom- so with four people, it meant managing the bathroom so we could all have a turn.
Great house and garden. A very helpful list of dinning options was available. Owner was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious.
Garden
Our stay at the Tairoa Lodge was an absolute delight. We were very very last minute for booking a trip to the Taranaki region, and thus we were left with very few choices in accommodation. Now we normally look for modest but tidy, while the lodge might have been a little more than our usual budget the charm and character were enough to loosen our purse strings. And we were ever so delighted that we did, we were struck by the passion that Linda has clearly poured into this beautiful house right from pulling into the driveway. She met us fairly late and yet still offered to make us a pot of chamomile tea after our long day's travels. The room we stayed in was absolutely charming, such detail to preserved the feel of the original house while still maintaining the luxuries of a modern home. We had no trouble sleeping in the serene silence of the outskirts of Hawera and when we awoke Linda was all to happy to cook us a magnificent breakfast, it was a hearty meal for a great days adventure. Overall I loved our stay here, Linda is both a fantastic host, and keeps a fantastic place to stay and I would recommend her Lodge through and through. Thank you Linda for an amazing weekend.

Great location in Hawera if you have a car. Lovely spacious cottage. Warm and comfortable beds.
Very cold in winter. Water pressure in the shower was not good. Quite expensive for three people.
Lovely room with the heater already on for our arrival (late May). Very comfortable bed with plenty of bedding and electric blankets, so lots of choice. The en suite was well laid out with a good shower and all was perfectly clean. Beautiful lounge with club chairs and a wood fire. Breakfast in the dining room was continental on the table and cooked to order. It was all generous and very good. We had a party in the evening at the Tairoa Lodge event centre next door which was just a short walk through the lovely gardens, there and back, which was as friendly and efficient as our accommodation. Linda is a great hostess for whom nothing is too much trouble. Everything was perfect, we shall happily go back.
Wonderful place to stay. The room and property were not just gorgeous but also clean and comfortable. The service was superb and it was wonderful to leave feeling relaxed and spoilt even though I was on a business trip. Would definitely stay again.
Thoughtful staff and attention to detail is wonderful!
Excellent service. Overall, loved our stay and glad we made the stop!
Linda was very welcoming and friendly. Electric blankets were provided in the bedroom which was very welcome in the chilly weather. The gardens are extensive and wonderful anda key attraction of staying at Tairoa. It would be great to come with more time in the summer months to make the most of the garden
Renovated villa, beautiful garden, peaceful atmosphere
Facility could use some upgrade at various places. Old country charm and wonderful staff (Linda). Quaint and homey.
Tairoa Lodge was a delight. Loved the ambience of the building and the gardens; very comfortable room; and Linda provided a delicious evening meal at short notice so I did not need to go out again to eat after arriving just on dark. Breakfast was also excellent. I will definitely stay again next time I am visiting Hawera.
