Location. Close to shuttles. Close to restaurants. Reception staff very friendly. But hardly saw them?
Our room was dirty, dated, cracked toilet seat. The windows blew open (it was freezing) No one cleaned our room for 6 days. We took out our own trash, washed and dried towels. And paid a small fortune to stay. Never again!
Excellent staff and fantastic location, especially for easy access to the slopes and high quality food! Great dry room for snowboard gear which comes in very handy for drying boots and gloves to get you out there fresh every day.
Fantastic tudor style hotel in great location. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
Nothing
Centrally located in Echoland so quick access to f&b.
No onsen, zero housekeeping over 4 days despite a request on second day. So I gave up.
The staff were excellent especially Razer . The breakfast was good.
No Japanese toilets and shabby appearance outside in places . Needs a bit of tlc.
Good location in Echoland with shuttle bus & restaurants nearby. Staff were lovely.
Not super clean. One guest had vomited on the pavement that lead from reception to the annex building - didn’t get cleaned up for the whole duration of our stay. Rooms had an odd musty smell to them. No shower curtain in our bathroom - floor got very wet.
Staff very friendly and approachable. Basic amenities. Close proximity to shuttle bus. Spacious rooms, comfy beds!
Despite it being in a good location, it was difficult to travel around Hakuba.
Easy and accommodating to areas close by

Great location
Their communication around their transport was bad. They could no longer pick me up and did not tell me. I was left in the cold until I rang them.
Great stay, central echoland. The rooms were clean and spacious with comfy beds. The staff were super friendly and gave great mountain advised, they took care of my bags while I skied and helped bring them upstairs.
Good location close to many restaurants, very friendly staff and family room was spacious and practical
It’s a tad outdated, but everything works and also has its charm
Great location, right in heart of Echoland. Easy, short walk to shuttle bus and restaurants. Staff were absolutely lovely, rooms were neat and clean. Drying room was spacious. Would definitely stay here again.
The only fault i could say is that the pillows were a bit uncomfortable and that the bathroom is small (but manageable), you have to step over a high bath edge to get in the shower so people with mobility issues might find this difficult.
Location and aesthetic
Late check in, early checkout. No flexibility. We paid a premium price for almost no service.
Amazing location within central Hakuba.
Have to carry your own luggages up the stairs if you stay on the second floor.
Great location, staff are super friendly. Great range of restaurants metres away from the accomodation.
Excellent location. Close to lots of restaurants and transport. Attentive, helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable rooms and sitting area. Really good set up with ski hire.
Our bathroom sink was a bit blocked. It was a little smelly. The ensuites were certainly nothing fancy. The breakfast restaurant was a bit cold and as a result the food went cold.
Location was handy in the middle of Main Street in Echoland
This was our first time coming to Hakuba and we were given information in drips and drabs by the hotel which made it harder to find our way around- for example we were only told on our second day about an English Hakuba website that had all the info we needed. I would recommend sharing this website with all your guests as soon as they arrive. Alternatively have a print out or website with more information for first time visitors. We bought passes on the first day but then had to pay for the shuttle as this particular pass didn’t include the shuttle when the hotel had mentioned the shuttle was free. There are 2 types of shuttles but this was not explained well. Restaurants are fully booked days in advance in Echoland so we booked the hotel restaurant for 3 nights after our arrival as we were meeting up with friends from Australia. When we arrived at 7pm, we were told they didn’t have any food left so we had to walk around in the cold to find a different restaurant. We were told to order taxis ahead as they get booked up so asked to book a taxi 3 days before our departure. We were then asked by reception the night before if we still needed a taxi (they had not booked it). Overall the place felt disorganised with lots of backpacker staff who ate trying their best. The free breakfast was passable and the hotel room was very dated for the money we paid.
Friendly helpful staff
It sounds a bit minor but the toaster at breakfast was soooooo slowwww ! This creates tension and discomfort early when the competition for a simple bit of toast and breakfast begins . Easy fix I’m sure .
Personnel trés simpa et à votre écoute. Bonne localisation.
The location is perfect with easy access to the shuttle bus, restaurants & bars. It has a lovely old charm, making it feel very welcoming & warm after a long day on the slopes. Staff were excellent, and went above & beyond for us!
N/A
The position was undoubtedly the best point as near some restaurants, ski rental and the ski shuttle bus. One kind staff drove us to bus stop when the taxi couldnt be booked (they had said it was confirmed).
We were in the Annex rooms in building next door. The bathroom was very plastic and raised off floor level. Room felt overpriced and dated. Impossible to get room cleaned as left cleaning sign for 2 days on door and nobody came. Had to call reception for towels. Staff were living next door in same corridor. Homestly felt more like a hostel. Also breakfast next door was ok but need to pay for a cappuccino and one staff kept asking for a google review several times during our visit. Clearly the owner rewards staff based on that criteria.
The only good thing was the number of restaurants around the hotel
I asked the staff to help book a taxi to Happo, they said it would be a 20min wait. They didn’t communicate that a taxi hadn’t been assigned until 40min had passed and they proceeded to pool us with another guest without asking us first. The other guest wasn’t even ready when the taxi came and they told the taxi to wait an additional 5min for them to come. Thanks to this we missed our ski lessons. The room also feels like it hasn’t been maintained well.
The staff were very helpful and friendly The hotel has yoga lessons which is great!
The beds were a little less comfortable and bathroom private and clean but very small
The hotel was spotless, and the staff were incredibly kind, going above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We arrived with our 2 year old and were pleasantly surprised to find a crib already prepared for us. The room was spacious, cozy, and perfect for our stay. Highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting the Hakuba area. And a special mention for the restaurant—don’t miss it! The chef creates absolute magic with South Asian cuisine. 🙂
Absolutely nothing
Hi, Dave, I am interested in brining a group next summer. Could you please contact me at Jyoteeka@hotmail.com as your website email is not working. thanks Jyoteeka Cummings
Great spot right on the main street of Echoland, Hakuba. Bus stop to all slopes just up the road and easily walkable. Great breakfast, helpful staff, good sized and comfortable rooms for a couple. Plenty of storage for snow gear and if renting a pick up service is available from the main rentals which is handy.
Amazing property! Loved the onsen and family owned feel.
The breakfast was great but the room is abit dated. Overall, still a good affordable stay
Cleanliness could be slightly better
Great location, spacious rooms. Some staff very helpful (we loved Chris), and some were not so much
Paying for the daily breakfast is not worth it. There are much better options that were walking distance nearby.
The staff could be more helpful, from requests about access to the ski slopes, to assistance with accommodating our 2 year old, they went out of their way to provide assistance. The location was perfect, with access to five restaurants onsite, equipment rentals and Hakuba Valley bus at the end of the street (less than 100m), a convenience store next door, there is no better location in Echoland.
The rooms were clean but somewhat dated, but still clean and spacious. Showers were difficult to control and shower head in our room was broken. The paths between the buildings were not maintained and slippery due to ice. A quick daily shovel would improve access.
Our stay was incredible. The rooms were spacious but cozy and exceeded our expectations. Access to the ski fields was easy with buses going constantly from outside the hotel. There were plenty of meal options with restaurants attached/surrounding the hotel. Shakespeare is situated in the main street of Echoland so you have access to plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. We loved our stay as a group!
Nothing. We loved our stay.
We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. The location is great for easy access to buses for ski fields and dinner and food options. The dry room, washing machines, and easy return of ski gear were convenient amenities to have. The staff were helpful and answered every question we had. The only reason the stay is an 8 is because it is outdated.
The locality was brilliant. Nice and close to restaurants, bars and cafe’s. Buses to slopes at your door and staff we exceptional!
Nothing
Great Location, Chris and Athena staff were amazing and extremely helpful. Easy to get a shuttle to Happo One, Iwatake, or Hakuba 47. Pushed two single beds together to make a double.
1). Breakfast was average at best. 2). Kin Kitchen was overpriced - should be about 50% less for the quality. 3). Get a license for the shuttle busses and offer a few shuttles to Happo or Hakuba 47 at 7:30am. Guests should write down their names for it. 4). Needs a fireplace downstairs and upstairs with better lounging around furniture. 5). Wifi is poor. 6). Some staff not very receptive, some staff great. 7). Remove the snow from the roof, caused leaks and bloody dangerous.
Great location, friendly staff, Rooms were average but overall comfortable
Location and staff friendliness was amazing!
The location
This was a very disappointing stay. We booked for 14 people and the rooms and hallways were not clean upon check in. We had to call for a cleaner to get rid of a terrible smell in two different rooms. They took so long, we had to run to the shop down the road to buy cleaning spray. Breakfast was advertised as included, which was not the case and we were asked to pay over $1000 dollars for our group if we wanted to include breakfast. We were specifically told that they offered a service to wax ski/snowboards which they refused/denied when we tried to use the service they had recommended upon check in. The rooms were very plain, small, and basic. We were in the Annex building. The rooms in the main building are what is advertised and are updated and much nicer. The food was not good and our group was very disappointed on our first dinner at the hotel. The staff was not helpful when it came to transportation at all. They do not offer a shuttle service as advertised even though the shuttle van just sits in the front parking lot. I would not recommend staying here, our entire group was disappointed and the hotel was below our expectations based on their website and appearance on booking.com
Very old dated with limited amenities in the room. Old furnishings. Noisy. Comfortable bed and well heated. Very pricey for what you get.
Great location, can walk to great restaurants, bars and convenience store. Bus stop almost out the front to the ski resorts. Nice & warm & cosy. Drying room very handy! Staff are very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately room was not cleaned as requested (only once in 7 days).
Room cleaning service did not show up. Pillows very uncomfortable.
I booked a stay here very last minute. For the price tag I was very underwhelmed, the carpet in the room has seen far better days and the bathroom was nothing more than the bare essentials. Everything was very outdated. This is the only hotel I have seen in Japan that didn’t have a bidet in the bathroom. The rooms are decently sized but a large amount of space is taken up by a weird array of furniture that isn’t super usable because of how much space they take up(ie the table in front of the couch that has to be moved outwards to use the couch comfortably, which then blocks the entrance and desk) The staff were very friendly and helpful though!
Great location, comfortable beds, helpful and friendly staff
The property was small but mighty! It was located near a bunch of restaurants and right next to the shuttle. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. The staff were the highlight of my stay! Every morning they would greet me by name and help me figure out where I wanted to go. They were funny and pleasant and did their best to make you feel welcome. They even let me leave my gear (jacket, helmet, etc) on the chairs while I went to the dry room to put on my boots so I could have an easier time getting up and down the stairs with my skis and boots! I highly recommend this place for solo female travelers because whether I was at the main desk or sitting in the restaurant by myself, someone was always there making me feel comfortable, watching out for me if something wasn’t quite right, or chatting with me so I didn’t feel so alone!
They did not change the sheets and my room had a small ant issue while I was there. Also they do not provide hair conditioner in the room which was slightly annoying. My biggest thing was that while they will pick you up from the train station, they will NOT drop you off at the end of your stay and will not tell you about this. Because of this it was too late for me to get a taxi to the train station and I had to bring all of my bags and gear onto the ski bus to get to the station which almost made me miss my bus because it is not very reliable in terms of being on time. Also be aware that they are located kind of far from some of the mountains so it may take a 15 minute bus ride to get to a mountain or over an hour bus ride (depending on where you want to go) which is a little inconvenient since the lifts close quite early. And depending on how many people there are on any given day, you may not be able to get onto the bus which may take you even longer to get on the mountain.
