Horrible racist staff. I requested to get my room cleaned after booking and extra night . She said I need to request by 8 am which doesn’t make any sense. Because if I checked out from my old room I would have gotten a clean took for the new booking

It was like staying at a small service station which we didn’t expect. Lack of proper bar and food facilities. Pillows really uncomfortable.

The hotel was in a very convenient location, with fast food chains a walk away and a fuel station nearby. We booked a family room and a twin bedroom, and requested for these to be near each other. They couldn't fulfill this, as all twin bedrooms are only accessible rooms and have to be on the ground floor. This was fine with us, but we would've preferred if this was outlined clearly. The family room which we booked for 3 people didn't have the duvet/linen and didn't have extra set of towels, so we did have to ask for these downstairs. The receptionist was very lovely and helpful. Also free parking.

Améliorer un peu le petit déjeuner, croissants et pains au chocolat sous plastique. Pontypool reste vraiment une ville de passage, très triste petite ville qui est très sale, avec les trois quarts des commerçants fermés, vitrines dans un état de délabrement. Pas envie de s'y attarder.

Easy to find off the roundabout. Nice big cosy rooms with a comfortable bed. The reception staff were lovely and welcoming. Free games and books to use during our stay. A lovely breakfast which was available early at 7am for our early departure. There's no air con in our room, but a big fan was provided and work brilliantly. The TV had lots of british cannel and Youtube/Netflix which we could log into.

The chair bed for my daughter wasnt comfortable. The shower over the bath was slippery. This didnt both us, but we did have to be careful whilst standing in the bath.

The reception staff were professional and friendly

The room was extremely dirty. Unwashed glasses. Sticky cup rings on the shelves beside the bed. Tuna wrapper and peanuts in a drawer, thick dust on the surfaces, spilled milk stains near the kettle, smell of urine in the bathroom, dirty sink, no body wash, staine duvet. I took photographs and emailed the hotel before writing this review and have since received a reply and apology and a resolution from the manager.

Extremely lovely and helpful staff. Full cooked breakfast with really tasty local meaty sausages. Very comfortable bed. Very quiet area with no traffic noise overnight - despite its proximity to the dual carriageway. Lots of hot water and a decent shower.

This is by today’s standards a tired building. The bathrooms are in need of a refresh, being able to alter the shower height would be really useful. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, we had a desk fan which even on full, it didn’t actually move the air beyond 10cm from the fan- the staff did manage to find us a different one which actually worked.

Unfortunately there were a number of things wrong with the room, mainly cleanliness. You could write your name in the dust in the wardrobe, a hoover was needed and items were broken. Window blind, toilet brush, kettle and no bulbs in bedside lamps.

The staff were accommodating and the location was convenient.

The room wasn’t that clean and very outdated. Paint chipped on the walls and the bathroom wasn’t very clean. I think it needs to be updated and a good deep clean.

The room was not clean or properly prepared. There were three of us staying, but we only had towels for two people. The sofa bed bag was dirty and smelled bad. We asked for it to be changed. The sofa bed also had no blanket or sheets. We had to request them. Overall, this was disappointing and not the standard we expected.

This hotel is my go to when visiting family in the area. The location and price are both ideal for a clean and comfortable room with plenty of required facilities in the immediate area.

There is nothing not to like st this hotel.

Stayed here following an issue with a holiday cottage we had booked. Good price and location near to where we were stopping to save a late and lengthy drive home. Staff were all very professional and friendly.

Das Hotel war in Ordnung.

Wir hatten ein Zimmer für Behinderte und das Waschbecken war deutlich zu weit unten. Der Duschvorhang hätte auch mal eine Wäsche vertragen,da war jede Menge Schimmel drin. Die Betten waren leider extrem schmal, so dass wir nachts ständig aufgewacht sind.

Hotter than normal temperatures meant lack of air conditioning meant room was very hot day and night.

The staff were great and the room was very comfortable and well furnished.

It's on an industrial estate but we knew this when we booked.

We liked everything about the hotel. The lady on the counter was nice and pleasant and couldn't do too much for us.

The double bed was fantastic but our daughter had to sleep on a bed settee which was very uncomfortable. We had to lay two quilts on top and then the settees two cushions on top of that.

No shower cap provided so couldn't shower. The shower head was fixed and far too high. Minimal tea and milk supplied. Very hot in room and the fan provided was totally ineffective. Air con would've been appreciated, even if charged as an extra. The staff member booking us in was polite but knew nothing of the local area or taxis available despite having been there 'years' apparently. Surprising and not helpful.

No air conditioning and we could not open the window more than a fraction. It's a shame its legal to rent a bedroom that is that hot.

Hotel room small but adequate. Unfortunately weather was in hottest day during our stay. No air con but one fan which proved fairly effective once the sun had cleared the side of the building. Young staff were very busy looking after check ins/outs, breakfasts, bar etc but were very helpful. We christened one of the staff (Zoe) " No problem" because every time we asked her to do something or asked a question she sorted it immediately. The dining area was bijou but we enjoyed breakfasts which were reasonably priced and good value for money.

The hotel itself, the facilities and the staff were absolutely lovely. Mikaela at reception and all the staff were as helpful as they could be.

The room was too hot. I mean, I understand the weather itself was very warm but I could barely spend any time in it during the day and it didn't cool down enough at night either.

Was absolutely boiling in my room at 11pm went down and asked for another fan or a room with air con and was told no.

The fact I paid £30 to use the car charge. Not sure why I had to pay, if you plug in using your own cable it starts. There are 2 plugs on one post, between 2 disabled bays, I’m disabled so thought ok I’ll pay and charge my car when I sleep. Only issue was I could only use it once because other cars were parked in the spaces, some were disabled but some weren’t and most were not using the chargers. Only one of the chargers actually worked. Feel ripped off. If you are going to put a service in, should really look if it’s going to work for the customers.

Checked in to Best Western Pontypool and was given a room on the top floor with a window opening onto the main 4 lane duel carriageway. Room temperature on arrival was >35c. There was no air conditioning, even thought the Best Western website quotes partial air con. It was not possible to leave the window open due to the excessive noise from the main road that appears to be less than 15m from the hotel. Upon requesting an alternative room, due to the excessive and unbearable heat, I was told to “come back tomorrow after 15:05hrs when the manager would be available”. Upon explaining that this does not solve the issue, calmly and politely, appreciating that the lady at the desk was only following protocol, I requested my booking be cancelled and refunded so I could seek alternative, suitable accommodation. This was refused and I was again told “to come back tomorrow”. The interim solution I was provided with was a small bowl of ice to place in front of a “desk top” fan to “cool the room” - this I would suggest, was comparable, at best, to being given a sponge to soak up the water on the Titanic back in 1912. Completely ridiculous! I only have one recommendation when it comes to the Metro Hotel Pontypool, and that is stay somewhere else…………..anywhere else……….in my opinion the hotel is inhabitable in hot weather. I feel that there is no thought to guest welfare, or safety. My last ever booking at this establishment!

My husband picked the hotel not realising it was on a service station. We got to reception and were greeted by a very nice and friendly receptionist, by the name of Zoie Who was very helpful. Entered the room we were more than pleasantly suprised, everything we needed for our overnight stay, would definitely recommend this hotel.

Breakfast: for 11 pounds it is pretty basic, especially if you are looking for the continental option

Asked for a room in the quiet part of the hotel, which we got. The hotel nd the room were contemporary, well-maintained, immaculately clean, well-furnished and everything worked. The room was well equipped, with plenty of sockets. The room was also a good size. The staff were very friendly. When we arrived, we were met with a wonderful smile and greeting from the young lady behind reception. Probably the warmest welcome I've ever had in a hotel.

I had booked a room for a family of three. On reaching the room, we realised there was a double bed. We were very tired and didnt want to go throught he hassle of changing rooms. We were given just a single check-in card to the room. It would be great if two cards are given.

A clean hotel and a quiet twin room. Enjoyed an evening drink in the lounge area and liked the outside sitting area. A brilliant central location with a petrol station and 24h Asda Extra store . Liked the footpath from the hotel to the canal. Excellent value overall.

There was no de-caff tea in the room and was told at reception that there unfortunately wasn’t any but had de-caff tea with my breakfast. The receptionist obviously didn’t know this.

Although I hate the saying, 'It is what it is.' I would never normally stay in a generic travel stop like this. I guess you can't expect much like nice surroundings and a fresh cooked breakfast. It is grey and serves its purpose which in our case was a bed before and after attending a wedding. Unfortunatley there is not really anywhere nice to book so dull grey it is.
