We enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable and spacious. The restaurant food was lovely.
Wall paper ripped and hanging of the wall. Shower broken. Could not get the cold tap to work so got scolded when used shower. (Did tell reception) bed was comfortable and slept well. The pool area is okay. Could do with loungers for non swimmers to seat comfortably with a book whilst family swim. Breakfeast was okay could be done with being cooked longer and scrambled egg was more like a sloppy omelette. ( obv done in microwave)
Super friendly staff, accommodating, great food for both dinner and breakfast. Large room, plenty of towels, lots of choice for teas/coffee. The pool was lovely and warm, great for all ages. A few tiles were a little run down around the pool and windows were cloudy but this was minor. I would also advise descaler/filter for the kettle.
The hotel is beautiful, quiet and clean. The staff were FANTASTIC. I would highly recommend
Staff vg
Hotel was quite tired and we were very disappointed by the fact that the bar wasnt open when we arrived, indeed it didnt open until around 18,30! It would have been nice to enjoy a glass of wine after driving for 5 hours, we also found that the towels were quite rough and didnt smell very pleasant
Within easy walking distance to the town centre. Noisy generator outside the building adjacent to room.
Hotel easy to find. Twin room comfortable. Food good
Toilet not flushed, dirty towels hanging everywhere and lots of dead wasps on the window-sill. Spoke to reception - no apology or anything. Just told us to collect some towels when we next went past. Tired place but over-priced at £140. Really big room and v comfy bed though.
Staff were friendly. Property was very clean. Although a little dated. But overall it was a good experience. Beds were comfortable.
A lovely stay but room very dated and the floors sloped and were very squeaky also pool was lovely but limited time on sauna in the day
A friendly welcome, lovely clean room
It was a lovely stay hotel and staff were very helpful friendly will stay again
Have stayed at the Royal Chase over many years now, it’s always spotlessly clean and the service is always first class…
Overall we were somewhat disappointed with our hotel room in Shaftesbury. While the room and bed were large it wasn’t particularly comfortable. The bathroom floor was dirty in places and our bed was really only just pulled up rather than made properly. There was a very strong smell of chlorine from the indoor pool as you walked down the corridor. Thank goodness there were mobile fans in our hallway which we turned on every day that we stayed. On the positive side parking was just outside and the hotel was very convenient to the sights of Shaftesbury. It was also quiet.
Lovely hotel & perfect location for our wedding evening
Location was good.
Lovely hotel day staff lovely night porter shut bar at 10
Spectacular location! Staff is amazing and the Jack Russell is adorable…..be open to …. Experiences!
Friendly staff, clean room, quiet. Bed needs to be upgraded.
This is a nice hotel located close to the centre of Shaftesbury and easy access from the main road. Even though we booked a room with multiple beds (we assumed this was a twin room); it turned out to be a room with a double bed and a cot (I guess 2 beds) but not ideal when sharing with your mother! The room was very hot as well as we could turn off the radiator in the bathroom. Nice breakfast and pool though.
Comfortable stay, lovely area rooms are a bit dated could do with a freshen up! Very clean hotel and lovely staff, especially the ladies who serve breakfast in the morning always smiling and happy to help.
Amazing property and fantastic staff
Overpriced no breakfast included
reception staff nice, room was nice but was told the continental breakfast was free and to help ourselves but then on departure had to pay for it
Very friendly and helpful staff
Nice property looking a bit tired in places. Nice and clean but awful shower in room 11!
Very nice spacious room /clean . Easy parking . Good pub opposite
It's a good stay for the price with access to swimming pool and proximity to Shaftesbury High street. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Was a nice cheap hotel with the bonus of a pool
The bar and restaurant let this place down. The bar is spartan, like a school 1950s canteen, and had a filthy main glass table with ripped 2 year old "Good housekeeping" magazines laying on top....there's a misnomer. My room was spotlessly clean and bed very comfortable. Ate in the restaurant on my first night as it was bitterly cold and freezing outside, so didn't fancy going out. There was no heating on in the restaurant, when i asked why I was told it was on a timer. Ridiculous!
Room was dated. Woken at 5.40am by refuse truck emptying bins. At 7.30am fresh laundry was delivered to the hotel via fire escape next to my room. The bags were dropped loudly on the floor and against the wall of my room. When I looked outside the door there were approximately 12 large laundry bags piled up each side of my bedroom door. When I asked the cleaning staff later I was told this was the usual practice. I will be requesting a refund from the hotel.
The room, large and clean with comfortable bed, nice clean bathroom. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was good, breakfast cooked to order and lots of choice. The location of the Hotel is great for Shaftesbury town, a 12 minute walk takes you to the centre. We really liked it. We didn’t use the pool but it looks nice, although it seemed to be constantly used by locals mainly. Overall very happy
Was given a twin room despite booking a double room. I wouldn't normally be bothered but this was the second time this week this happened in different hotels. The single bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were awful. The room was spacious and warm but dated and there were signs of dust on the lamps etc so cleaning wasn't very good. Bathroom looked like it had recently been updated and was fine although when you stepped in the shower it felt like you might go through the tray! Food was good in the restarant though. Limited choice but it was actually quite good.
Very clean, pleasant atmosphere
Nice place and nice rooms but the room needed a proper clean
Lovely large room and bed. We slept well. Good shower too. Dinner was OK, breakfast a little expensive and not so good
Comfort, nice staff and surroundings.
Very good quality
The reception staff were lovely. The man who welcomed us on arrival was particularly helpful and cheerful. The lady on reception was very helpful too…especially dealing with a slightly awkward situation with a man who thought he had left belongings in our room! The hotel itself is a bit ‘tired’ and could do with a bit of an upgrade. But, saying that, our room was clean and tidy and the king size bed was very comfortable in the ‘double room’ we booked. We used the swimming pool and sauna which was an added bonus. Again, the area was a bit ‘tired’ but we enjoyed it. We decided to use the shower in our room as the ones in the changing rooms smelt a bit. The food from the restaurant we had was particularly nice and so was the cooked breakfast. There was a really good choice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
Location perfect for visiting our Son & family for Christmas, which is10 minutes walk away.
View from room 22 was over front with car park and then fairly busy road. Staff were courteous and helpful. Pool was lovely albeit kidney shaped. Parking was plentiful and had 2 disabled places much to our relief beside front entrance. No lift and steep stairs to first floor. Breakfast was plentiful and of great variety. Would stay again. Only problem was an alarm on next door room going off at 5.30am for 20 minutes. Apparently guest had left it minutely ajar. Tried phoning reception ONLY ansaphone not good enough when states reception open 24/7 and we were not sure what to do. Thankfully guest returned after 20 minutes and closed door.
Everything in the hotel took me back to my younger days and set us off a reminiscing about the 1990's. There are some nods to the 21st century but luckily they don't get in the way. The only downside is that the bathroom could have used some black mould remover in places. If you're looking for a class of 1997 reunion venue I would highly recommend this hotel.
Pleasant staff. Room warm. Bed comfortable and clean. Furnishings very tired and dated.
Nice stay
It's a beautiful hotel but it just felt a little underwhelming.
Disappointed that there was a charge for pool and sauna each day - we didn’t use it
There was no lift
Good Hotel, with good parking and friendly staff. Breakfast is great and the benefit of the swimming pool was great.
The hotel was a little tired but clean, comfy bed and good shower so key point were catered for. Also a good selection and quality breakfast The hotel desperately needs some illumination outside, it looks closed from the main road and the inroad and carparks are not lit at all, it must loose trade because of this if it wasn't for the satnav I would of passed it several times before seeing it.
Food revice very very slow. Smell from the drain unique. 'Exploding' hot tap unique
I found the Hotel to have very friendly, helpful staff and I thought the room was good value for money.
The hotel was in a great location for our needs. The downside was we stayed in room 24 and it smelt awful as we were only there for 2 nights we put up with it. My mother in laws room was fine. I did let reception know. Bar service was slow at time. Food was great especially the breakfast. All.the staff work hard and are friendly.
Pool closed and not even informed about this.
Big rooms comfy bed tired bathroom . Friendly staff good location
A very pleasant stay at The Royal Chase Hotel Shaftesbury which was ideal for meeting up with family and friends in the area. All the staff were very obliging and helpful and we made good use of the swimming pool. Many thanks again.
Sadly pool was out of action . Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. We had difficulty getting the shower to run hot but this was solved by running the bat hot tap for a while.
Room was fine - comfortable beds (2 singles - 'comfort room'), everything worked, good-sized bathroom. Prefer if different coffee brand used, as Nescafe are unethical (political activities, anti-social finance, likely use of tax avoidance strategies, animal testing, animal rights abuses, a poor approach to climate change and more). My wife's particular concern with them is that they contribute to the unnecessary death and suffering of infants around the world by aggressively marketing baby foods in breach of international marketing standards. Restaurant used for evening meal - good quality and generous portions - and for breakfast. Full Breakfast was '1 of each' - would have quite liked >1 mushroom, egg, bacon etc (perhaps I should have been bold and asked), but it did also include all the continental options too so overall still decent value for full breakfast. Swimming pool was reasonable size and a nice addition (a jacuzzi would have been even better!), but not keen on the very small changing-room, with the urinal just round the corner from the very small square section with bench and shower The spray from the shower and water flow to plug was encroaching on the bench area. Also walls were grey concrete looking - seemed like they needed to have some paint or tiles on to vastly improve the look. Overall, though, recommend the hotel for a good value Sun to Mon stay-over as we explored Shaftesbury and wider area.
Parking is easy although I recommend not parking near the trees/hedge as the car was covered in sap and debris in the morning. The lovely looking swimming pool which helped us choose this hotel was closed for maintenance every time we wanted to use it. Breakfasts were good. A little overpriced for the tired looking room.
Basically hotel ok staff excellent. Shame no fridge or air con.
Considering i spent over 130 for a night for this hotel it was not what i expected. Seemed more like a care home than a hotel. Rooms didnt look like they did on the pictures and neither did the property. It needs updating badly. Beds were very worn and mattressing had springs coming through. The bathroom that looked quite new was dirty. Staff were welcoming and friendly though.
I go to this hotel every now and again threw out the year.just to get away for some me time. Every time I go there’s always smile's and friendly faces.
Hotel is a little tired, but I've never stayed anywhere where the staff have been more accommodating! Everyone went above & beyond, Thankyou, The West family.
Nice and tidy hotel, friendly staff and quiet area with walk-in distance street restaurants and pubs.
The staff are outstanding. Very friendly and helpful.
So I think the rooms must vary greatly, we were staying for a wedding and some people said there rooms were nice and modern with good showers, our was small, boiling hot and dated with not enough hot water for us both to have a shower. When we arrived late at night after the wedding the window was wide open and it was still boiling hot, we slept on top of the bed with the window and curtains open, not a great nights sleep followed by a very disappointing shower in a not at all modern bathroom
Rooms dated, bar not comfortable and service was bad, no atmosphere Main reception staff friendly and helpful. Location was handy for travelling around area. Shaftesbury beautiful
Room was like a hot house, ghastly attached bath/shower gel which one could not reach from a bathing position. No pressure from shower head for an actual shower, iron burns on the carpet. Had a terrible night. Nice night manager and good sized towels
Excellent breakfast served by very accommodating staff. The room was clean and airy. My only moan was that the shower took a long time to heat and had very little pressure and the bath that it was over was too narrow naking it difficult yo move.
Staff were very helpful
Very Goid
Nice hotel in close proximity to other attractions Room a good size for a family of 3 Food good Swimming pool a nice size for younger children
Easy to find & convenient for our onward journey
Nice room, lovely restaurant food
Our room (33) was very good - spacious with an excellent en suite. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional (especially Sue at breakfast). We didn’t use it but there’s a lovely big swimming pool
Staff were lovely. Our room was big, with a big bath and separate shower. Breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. The only issue was the heating was on, during a hot weekend in mid May and the whole hotel was very warm but they did give out fans and open the windows so it wasn’t unbearable.
Food was awful room was dirty someone’s stinky pants under the bed and out of date cheese left in dresser drawers!! Radiator broken and was boiling hot all night, dust everywhere and big public hair in shower basin!!!!
We had a lovely room with high ceilings and a large comfortable bed. The small sofa in front of the TV was welcome. The staff were helpful and we had a good experience on our one night there.
Vey enjoyable experience. Lovely hotel
Lovely place great staff ideal parking had great time making memories cant fault it
The hotel is a little tired around the edges and could do with renovation perhaps, but the staff are polite, the location is great and the pool a welcome distraction!
It felt very family oriented.
Quaint staff were great
We had a really great stay here - the pool and sauna were a big plus for us, as well as the staff, who were all genuinely lovely. Great breakfast. Lovely big room. Nice lounge with games (including Buckaroo and Kerplunk) and books. I couldn’t fault it one bit.
The hotel is tired, dated and grubby and in need of a lot of TLC. The bed was uncomfortable, radiators in the room didn’t work and the carpet was stained and filthy. Staff were very pleasant and breakfast was tasty, but the restaurant decor and furniture needs replacing / updating.
Over all excellent stay, no hassle booking in or out, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was 1st class
Returning at 10.30 pm there was no available parking due to an outside booking. Excellent reception staff ,- especially the one who moved her car to provide a space for me. Floors not hoovered, faux leather chair split, paint peeling from ceiling, hairs in bath and on tiles.
Room was ok not as clean as it could be otherwise good stay I would stay again
The staff were brilliant, they couldn't do enough for us.. we we're on a birthday weekend, reception and dining room staff were brilliant.. Pool and sauna were good. Wouldn't hesitate recommending staying there again.. And Shaftesbury was lovely..
Spotless room, v comfortable bed, swimming pool was clean, thoroughly enjoyed my one night stay. I did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food.
Great spot staff were proper especially viv who helped me with everything lovely and warm despite cold weather
Breakfast took an hour. Run by One person who was happier singing and doing dishes than serving and cooking.... Not Impressed.
Excellent faciliities. We enjoyed having the swimming pool. The bedroom and bathroom was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff were very helpful, both on Reception and in the breakfast area. The breakfast menu was great . Car parking was sufficient. There was no traffic noise and the grounds were attractive and well kept.
Room was cold and shower delivered cold water only . Staff were friendly and helpful
Had a great night sleep and enjoyable breakfast. Recommend staying ( very good )
A decent mid range hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good and the pool is a nice bonus.
The property is tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. Not a comfortable/pleasing stay
WiFi useless very poor signal whoever you tried it. and unsecured network so unable to use for business. Shower not working properly scalding or freezing. No inbetween. Tv hit and miss works sometimes not others. Looks a bit run down from outside. But inside was clean. Evening meal was very good. But full English breakfast was sub standard. I sausage without taste 1 rasher of overcooked bacon 1 mushroom with no taste whatsoever half a small tomato and 2 poached eggs (as requested.)One cooked to solid the other undercooked and slimy. The black pudding was the size of a 50ppeice and tasted like it had been cooked in engine oil. The toast and has browns were great. The coffee was from a multi use machine and was foul. It was so bitter I couldn’t drink it. Saying that the staff I encountered were excellent. Would I stay again? No not at that price.
Hotel is very dated, but clean, nice big bedroom, comfy bed, excellent breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful especially Mandy on the desk who went above and beyond to help us, thankyou
Clean and comfortable

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
6.8/10Mixed reports: multiple guests praised spotlessly clean rooms, but several flagged dirty towels, unflushed toilets, bathroom floors with dirt and dead wasps on window-sills — cleanliness is inconsistent.
Service
9.3/10Consistently strong: many reviews describe staff as fantastic, super friendly, very helpful and accommodating; long-term guests praise first-class service.
Location
8.6/10Very positive: several guests note excellent/central location, within easy walking distance to town and convenient parking; one called it spectacular for the area.
Room Quality
7.2/10Mixed: rooms are often described as large and beds comfortable, but also dated, squeaky/sloping floors, cloudy windows and occasional maintenance issues (ripped wallpaper, broken shower).
Amenities
7.4/10Generally good but uneven: indoor pool praised as lovely and warm; sauna access limited and some pool-area tiles/windows show wear; bar hours and lounge seating for non-swimmers were noted as shortcomings.
Value for Money
6.8/10Below expectation for some guests: one review explicitly called the hotel overpriced for condition; others felt overall experience was good but noted dated aspects affecting perceived value.
Food and Beverage
8/10Mostly positive: several guests complimented lovely restaurant food and good dinner/breakfast options, though breakfast execution (eggs) received occasional criticism.
Overall Experience
7.5/10Generally positive with caveats: many guests would stay again and recommend the hotel for service, location and comfortable beds, but dated rooms, occasional cleanliness lapses and some amenity limitations temper the overall impression.
