We had a very small room as a pre-wedding party had taken over most of the rooms. The room and bathroom were cold as the weather had gone cooler but the hotel had not allowed for it. The large group plus small children were very noisy at breakfast and completely ruined the experience of being looked after and enjoying a breakfast which I had not had to cook myself. Unfortunately they had no regard for the other, mainly couples, staying there. I]

With the age of the building that means very poor sound proofing and squeaky floorboards (which could be fixed). I could hear every conversation in the room next door and the people above me on the second night were walking around in squeaky floorboards until midnight, and I was there for work.

Reviewed Aug 26, 2026A lovely unusual property, clean accomodation, friendly and efficient staff and the food was lovely, we had an evening meal and breakfast.
We stayed in an upstairs room off the rear carpark which was not obvious to find. The noise carried through the floor from the room above louder than I would have expected, music and general noises.

Woken up at 6 o’clock by people in the room above ours who were laughing and talking very loudly, moving things around and generally were very annoying. This did put a dampener on our stay.

Toilet was dirty marks on the bottom of the door carpet was dirty in places dust on tv and headboard attention to detail needed considering we payed £290 for the room would have expected better ..

I’m struggling with this, and the only bit I didn’t like, was not really a thing? Here goes….Outside sitting areas are plentiful. We sat at the highest sitting area & started to play a game (Banagrams) I was getting splinters in my back, through my shirt! The wooden backs were untreated timber. So I moved to another chair and it wasn’t a problem.

Menu disappointing not enough choice and no salads. TV wasn't working but staff fixed this, remote missing cover for batteries, remote controls can be bought for £5/£6 of amazon recommend this should be done for Powderham room for safety. Stain of bedspread could be easily sorted. There is quite alot of noise from the water pump system that was heard from other rooms when running taps, using shower or flushing toilets, disturbed sleep

Reviewed Jun 26, 2026The staff that we came into contact with were all very helpful. A fan was left in our room when temperatures topped 30 degrees. On the last morning we had to leave early and told the staff in advance; they produced a fridge for our room with a more than satisfactory breakfast.
Not a lot really - the Inn do what they can to try to avoid waste and we understand that. We chose the Inn for a clean, pet-free environment for which it scores top marks.

Reviewed Jun 21, 2026Bickley Mill Inn is a lovely hotel. Our room was very spacious (even though it was just a standard double), light and well appointed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. All the staff were welcoming, warm and helpful. Quality of food at breakfast and dinner was very good. We enjoyed the 'away-from-it-all' location, though it was only 15 minutes drive from Totnes. We particularly liked that it was an independent hotel rather than a chain, which gave it an individual character. It was very good value for money.
There were a couple of marginal issues that meant a rating of 9, rather than 10. First, our room was above the kitchen and the chef's music was very loud in our room during the early evening. It somewhat detracted from the otherwise very peaceful location. Second, there were minor shortfalls in attention to detail. For instance the body wash dispenser in the shower hadn't been replenished and the pump action didn't work. These are relatively minor issues in what was otherwise an excellent experience.

This is a very old building, beautifully restored. However, the floorboards creak and the plumbing clangs. This maybe something that will bother other guests. The EV chargers did not work.

There were roadworks on the day we arrived and the hotel even said they were unaware of this , very difficult and signposting re detour was ridiculous ( not the hotels fault tbh ). Also mattress in our room was very uncomfortable ( previous room we have stayed in was not like this ).

The breakfast was only ok. Didn’t think any local producers were involved cos no mention on menu. Orange juice was weak and watery from a box. Toast was not offered unless asked. Minimal quantity of fresh fruit. When asked for bananas was told we only have what is delivered. Dinner was a fixed list of options without that extra ‘daily specials’ showing lack of interest so we ate out for rest of stay. The bed had a winter weight duvet in mid September which was far too hot giving us a poor night’s sleep.
