Provider-sourced guest reviews.
First room they sent us to hadn’t been made up and stunk. No service throughout 4 night stay. No bar. No restaurant. Lift needs attention. No accessibility. Decor old and tatty. This was our second stay and gone downhill. Won’t be staying again. Expensive for facilities you got. Plus side, our one encounter with staff was pleasant and helpful.
We have stayed before and was fine but this time was not got there and the lift was broken and wasnt advised before hand! Got to our room and there was no toilet roll the room stunk of cigarettes half the plug sockets didnt work and struggled to get signal on the tv!
Woke up as fire alarm went off, no members of staff checked if we got out safe or told us what was going on, no register check, have previously stayed there but would not again due to lack of procedures for evacuation and lack of staff training. Also lift didn't work, room in need of refurbishment, curtain rail just holding on, shower over flooding, nob off on radiator, ceiling paper loose and restaurant closed, no breakfast offered, very disappointed, not worth the money paid.
Last time we stayed, we had a lovely room, comfortable stay and an amazing breakfast. This time the room was tired, in need of a fix up, the paint was flaky, ceiling paper was peeling, curtain rail was balanced so it tipped and nearly fell off when you touch the curtain, radiator nob was just balanced and took less than a minute for us to fix it back on, shower tray nearly overflowed, was blocked, toilet was constantly running, looked inside the cistern and took 2.sweet wraps out, then it worked fine. Lift was out of order and restaurant closed. Fire alarm went off after midnight and we evacuated, we found people standing on the hotel steps smoking, no member of staff, after a while people started to go back in so a member of staff must of told them it was safe but no one to k our room number or names to make sure we had got out the building safely. After that we had a really uncomfortable night, next morning the alarm went off again and the staff member that came outside thanked us for evacuating and commented that out of the whole hotel only the 4 of us had come out, asked us to wait until she gave us the all clear.,again no registered called. If it had of been a real fire the fire fighters wouldn't of known who was in or out of the building so overall we wouldn't stay again as staff are not trained to follow the fire evacuation process, so we don't feel safe staying there.
I always try to stay at this hotel when in Yarmouth and it has always been a good experience. However, this time there was no restaurant or bar as everything was closed.
Property needs attention. Basic. Non existant anything really.
We were very disappointed at the condition of the property dirty very out dated smelly we did not stay and have asked the hotel for a refund could you also request our refund
Could do with more tea milk and sugar in room and top up daily
hotel restaurant closed, bar closed, lift out of action, carpet could do with a clean .
We liked it. Could be a nice hotel again if money was put into it.
the room was very smelly
The hotel is dated and has had no maintenance at all. Things are broken eg shower heat control came off in my hand… bed head board was broken, curtains didn’t close properly, mattress was stained
The room was fine enough to accommodate 2 people Bed was comfy Plenty of hot water Could use a few bottles of water for use of kettle
Basic clean helpful staff
Great staff
The hotel is bog but alot of it was not open and water not hot
I guess this hotel is what the dwp use for the homeless and asylum seekers felt a bit unsafe as no lock on inside of bedroom door and child could have got out if we dint put a chair there was told there is security at front desk all night there is no one groups of people sitting outside entrances in early hours i guess they live there can be a bit intimidating especially for a woman proberly wont stay again
I didn’t like not have proper coffee at breakfast just being served instant.
Horrible. It is a mouldy and stuffy room. Single room but looks like a cupboard. Windows facing the roof with lots of birds remains and other stuff. Horrible smell and bathroom incredibly dirty. Never again!
The check in and welcome was the best we've ever experienced anywhere! It was such a massive surprise and so refreshing. We travelled with a dog and were instantly put at ease and made to feel welcome and like returning guests. We cannot praise this lovely lady enough! The hotel has fabulous character and it's of the era with tonnes of charm. If you want modern, soulless straight lines, go elsewhere. If you value history, character, charm and the warmth of an older property then this is certainly the place for you! The hotel is huge and as was our sea view room on the third floor. Yes, the room needed a few maintenance matters taking care of, but this is no way detracted from our stay. They've got their fire emergency procedures well planned and visible where it needs to be. Our only issue during the stay was someone being inconsiderate shouting on the corridor as they returned to their room. As a very fair priced hotel, I'd not hesitate to recommend and stay again!
Really enjoyed my stay the room had a nice out look and warm cosy and clean the shower is brilliant and had tea and coffee that really makes a nice stay lots to do in that area And cinema is fantastic i had a lovely time
Lovely old hotel. No bath. Very polite and friendly staff.
Yet again another lovely stay Staff are great Room is perfect, large and quiet Can’t wait for our next stay
We only stayed at the hotel for one night with our dog and we were made to feel very welcome on arrival by the friendly staff. The room was clean and a nice size for the price. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean with a nice shower. There was a little noise in the evening but that’s to be expected from the location but we had a great nights sleep and so did our dog. Parking outside the hotel was great and they were actually nice and wide spaces for once. We’d definitely stay at the hotel again.
We always stay at the hotel when in Great Yarmouth, a few times a year. Has everything u need for the perfect weekend. Always clean, staff helpful, (they moved us to a different room when we said it was far too hot) perfect price, along the seafront next to casino , perfect for us !! 10 mins walk to the shops .. you won’t regret staying here !!
The rooms look nothing like the pictures
Clean room, nice bathroom and comfortable bed. A bit worn in areas but worth the money :)
Our first room was not cleaned prior to our entry with a empty pepsi can dirty towels and the bed had not been changed. Our second room although sort of clean, the bath was blocked and filled up with water as we showered in and the room was in desperate need of refurbishment.
pleased with overall
I couldn’t fault the room it was very clean and thats the main thing
Room was nice and clean, friendly staff, felt safe with security walking around the building make sure everything was alright.
Nothing like the photo duisipointed por Room and very old building we could not sleep at night
The staff were as friendly and as helpful as they could be …. However the room itself was tired and worn , the bedroom window would only open about 2 inches and of what we could see through the window itself and through the 2 inch gap was just roof , the bathroom window was painted shut and could not be opened , the one bed base was broken and rocky , dirty marks all over walls , dirty , spillage marks all over carpets ( made your socks dirty when walking without shoes on ), on entry the bin had blonde hair ( pulled from floor or hairbrush ) in it , the kettle was broken so it would boil and boil without switching off , there was worn out duck tape all over the step up to the bathroom, around the handle , down the door of bathroom was filthy dirty , missing paint patches everywhere , skirting boards mouldy/ dirty round by shower cubicle , holes in wall where a previous loo roll holder once was , we could hear the other rooms , the room was way to warm , due to this we spent hardly anytime in the room , and could not sleep , this was not the room advertised in pictures when we booked . This could be a beautiful hotel inside if maintained well , it’s also in an ideal location .
We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past but since its been taken over its not the same. We had dinner on the second day and it wasnt worth the money. We both had vegetable curry which was ment to come with nan bread but didnt. I asked the girl serving and she said they didnt have any. I then went to make a cup of tea as the facilities was out i then asked for some milk and the same girl told me there isnt any as the machine was getting removed! So i was left with a black tea that i couldnt drink! We then had apple pie with warm custard and a lemon pie with raspberry coulis. The custard was stone cold and no raspberry coulis. Left very disappointed.the bathroom window in our room didnt stay open and rhe bathroom door didnt shut properly. Theres not free hot chocolates in the rooms any more and the bed sheets were dirty! Dont think we will come back again
I struggle to get into the bath as disabled to have a shower, asked for sea view when I booked it but got a brick wall instead so not really impressed
Needs a lot of TLC, staff were ok. Rooms very basic and need updating. Also kept up all night due to a domestic in the corridors(appreciate this isn’t hotels fault) but given it went on for couple of hours I would of thought security would of got involved
Room was filthy dirty cups . Pubes on sink and toilet and in shower . I reserved a nice looking room on line and got a discusting twin room . Sweaty and smelly pillows . Would never stay again
It wasn't very clean wasn't what we booked definitely not worth £220 for 2 nights stay there was no bar it's advertising it has one I'm glad we didn't have to pay for breakfast as not every much section water for the shower was very hot or freezing cold and not very helpful when asked about it. It's just a check in take your money and get on with it very unhappy would never return or recommend it to anyone.
The staff were lovely upon arrival. Room was okay for price could use some touches of paint as looks very old and had a musk smell to it. But we did not sleep at all and rushed out in the morning due to loud noises from other rooms at night our dog just couldn’t settle as we could hear everything around us. Lots of shouting in the street right outside the hotel.
Not as good as last year Bacon cooked too hard Room too small and bath too high for me too try and get in to shower Bar non alcoholic and loads of dogs
Hot room Windows didn't open enough Fan only worked on low Clean room, comfortable beds Some corridors not refurbished and stuffy and smelly Rubbish from local flats littered the outside area, smelly bins from them not emptied
Faulty towers power cut no hot water no soap wobbly bed no bar no car park, only stayed one night
Nothing good to say about this hotel. The fire alarm went off for 3 hours in the middle of the night. The rooms were tired and dusty and you can hear the floorboards creaking from the hallway and rooms above and around you. Avoid.
Hotel is a little tired but serves a purpose. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.
Rooms were clean , but need updating also bathroom needed a complete refurbishment. The room was big enough but would be nice with a small fridge in it. We were staying only for 1 night so it was ok . If longer i think it would bother me more .
Good location. Rooms on the website look modern and comfortable. We were not given one of those rooms. Bed is so squeaky we had to put the mattress on the floor in order to sleep. Was cheap but if you want to sleep do not stay here.
View was very nice out to the seafront. Old with modern touches. Bathroom stunk of old rotten veg.
Nice pleasant hotel. Good value for money.
The property is nicely situated. Staff is helpful. Our stay was okay, the property is quite old and age related issues exists too in this property.
Staff were very friendly. However going off the photos, the room we had was in nowhere near the standard shown. We paid more for this hotel as it looked better than the others. Stains on carpets, wallpaper peeling off and the smell was bad. Toilet leaked badly overnight so they had it checked out for only to be told there was nothing wrong even though there was water all over the floor, but they would move us anyway. The second room was a lot better but still in need of some TLC. Perfect location for exploring Great Yarmouth and staff were very friendly. Had a lovely nights sleep and views were lovely if you had a front room.Parking is free (council owned)outside if u can get a space, otherwise i noticed paid parking was pricey.
You get what you pay for, clean room Very noisy at the front of property. All I all I would not stop here again
We stayed at The Carlton for one night. It was a good location for our day Horse Racing in Gt Yarmouth. Very friendly greeting on arrival, room with a sea view, good clean bedding and towels and tea and coffee making facilities. Bit noisy with road noise but okay. We didn’t have breakfast but looked like a nice hot buffet
Hotel under refurbishment, I hope! Very sparse in appearance, I.e. no embellishment as in house plants, flowers, ornaments and few pictures on the walls. The hotel is Muslim owned and therefore alcohol free although you can byo this should be advertised on booking and that breakfast is available although not included in the room price. Not a problem cost wise but maybe should be mentioned at booking stage. Room clean, linen clean and bed comfortable so not unhappy with our stay. Entertainment could have made a bit more effort to not look like she’d just walked in off the street. Maybe Ascot room could have had a bit more ambiance.
Absolutely disgusted with this hotel my wife has Covid & we sent proof of the results & they refused to refund us our money, certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone customer service is nonexistent
we liked the location, however feel the property could do with some further upkeep.
Hotel was comfortable and room very spacious. The food was good. Parts of the hotel are a little worn but had some nice period features. No alcohol in bar but allowed to take your own. Very central to holiday entertainment and activities. Would stay again.
maybe if the window s were cleaned properly also the room was cold & the bathroom was in disrepair ROOM 109 for your reference
Liked all the extras like iron/fan/hairdryer. Liked having the desk/mirrors for getting ready. Lighting good and good storage. Paintwork/radiators needing touching up and pillows could do with changing/protectors. Breakfast very good
Very nice abd clean could do with up dateing
Friendly staff but they were in the middle of a take over hopefully the rooms will be updated
Myself and my daughter stayed for 2 nights. The staff where very welcoming and always available. However, our bedroom door kept rattling and kept us awake or woke us whenever someone walked by. It's great that the hotel is dog friendly, although not so great when on Monday morning the room adjacent to us had a very yappy dog that woke us again. Overall the hotel served it purpose for us whilst we were visiting. Family.
It was just perfect for were we wanted to be
An older hotel with a great location. But suffering a bit eith age and, perhaps, having difficulty due to not enough staff. It must be hard keeping up with repairs, but the lobby stairs were do worn (and fixed with tape), that I feared a fall.
The night life after 6pm outside the hotel was minimal even at the start of June. There was a bar at the hotel to sit in. The hotel itself was lovely and so were the staff. The food was good and value for money.
Exceptional, friendly service from all staff especially the lovely lady manager on reception who went above and beyond to help us when our car broke down leaving us in really difficult circumstances.
Extremely happy with this hotel. It exceeded my expectations, with the room being of a good standard, the breakfast and evening meal being a decent size and produce. No issues during my stay (long weekend) and the staff were friendly and professional. I would stay here again.
Could do with a face lift
Food was not very good
Room was standard, had a lovely view of the pier and apart from being told I was a liar by the front desk, we had an ok stay. There was definitely a laundry room next to/ below us where they used the washing at 7.15am on both mornings that we stayed, which woke us up. Its an old building so we understood the crazy amount of creaking from the floorboards etc. but to be told that it must of been a sleep apnoea machine making our floor rattle.... It was a washing machine, don't try and tell me otherwise.
the Staff were very good. Nothing was too much trouble. They were very helpful and friendly. Everything you would need was catered for. The food was amazing plenty of choice. The building itself was a bit tired and dated but was very clean.
Not suitable for disabled people . Lift inside feels like it's going to fail and very small had to fold mobility walker up every time go in or out as so small. The bathroom door was missing the lock, shower missing handle on inside and crack in window floors very creaky and noisy.
On arrival the hotel was clean, we arrived early and staff were very friendly, looked after our bags so we could go out. The staff were always very polite, helpful and friendly, happy to give us more tea, coffee and milk for our room. The room had a balcony and we could open the doors slightly to let air in but you couldn't go out on the balcony due to safety catch on doors not allowing it but that didn't bother us, we understood that it was designed to keep people safe. We had a lovely view, the room was spacious, with seating area, the celling had a victoriana style/character. The bathroom was a little dated, no plug for the sink but the bath and shower worked well. Although the room was very warm when we arrived we opened the window, balcony door slightly so that it wasn't too warm. The breakfast was very good value, selection of cereals, pastries, fruit juice, hot drinks and hot buffet. We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay here again.
Excellent value for money. Staff lovely and the breakfast is great. It’s fairly basic in the room but it’s all we needed for a short break.
Excellant view of the north sea.
Will be booking again
Another stay at the carlton for us.Once again the hotel staff were great.Really good nights rest,Nice and quite. A walk into town takes about 15 mins and is worth visiting
Supposed to pay on arrival and had already charged my card prior to arrival. Rooms very tired, tv didn’t work, carpets all thread bare. Needs a refurb
The short break we had at the carlton hotel was undoubtedly one of the best we have had. The hotel staff were so welcoming from the time we arrived to the time we left. A delicious breakfast was available to all guests. Please let me say the food was incredible. We will return to the carlton hotel on our next break without a moments hesitation. The room costs are amazing for what you get, The carlton in my opinion is doing a great at attracting guests to the hotel. Excellent work to all whom work at the carlton hotel to make our the guests holiday breaks memorable
I stayed here for 2 nights and wouldn't stay any longer. The rooms are so outdated it's unreal and the worst I've ever stayed at. First is the carpet in the hallways- It's so old and ripped that it needs a refurb. Also the floors are so creaky it's about to break. Second is the bathroom. The shower rail and the shower head are completely loose. Literally they are all hanging off the wall. Finally the TV cable. We did not have a TV due to the ethernet cable port being broken. I literally shocked myself by touching it because it's live. Oh yeah and the noise in the room was like your ears ringing because they have a hyfire unit in the rooms. The only good thing was being so close to the seafront and free parking but that's it really.
The hotel was nice but it was a bit dated and needed a bit of tlc to the doors and walls. It was an all round lovely stay apart from the fire alarm going off at 1:30am and the breakfast was nice could maybe have had a few more options with what was there. The staff were helpful and friendly. But overall we had a lovely time and would come back again. For the price I didn’t expect anything more.
Well Worth the price paid
The staff were helpfull and cheerful, the was very good with a bath.had a breakfast which was good for the price.would go again.
I've stayed here a while back so thought ok don't bother reading reviews etc. So check in was quick and efficient and the lobby and way to the room were clean. Got. To my room... Excellent all clean unpacked stuff has a shower (brilliant shower lovely) got out to get dry and i was like omg the building is on fire it was so hot I. Thought right investigate as the radiators were on. Omg they don't turn off either as the control thing is. Broke. Funnily enough I had the room. With the fire escape and I opened it and had to leave thay open to the road down the bottom of the stairs it cooled the room... Well let's out the major heat stroke inducing levels of heat lol and. Just to top it off and run salt in. The wound the Tv had no reception a redeeming factor is the wifi was superfast. I can't get over how uncomfortable I. Was and how unsafe I felt. I didn't wanna go tell reception Coz. There was a. Weird man roamimg the halls I. Saw him. Several times through the peep. Hole.....
Was a lovely stay, staff were friendly and helpful and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Plenty of choice for breakfast and good value 3 course meal in the evening with good choices. My only negative would be the hotel is a little tired and the rooms could do with refreshing and updating.
entertainment is within easy walking distance
Lovely hotel. We really loved our room and can’t wait to go back to same room. However, we didn’t like that the TV had no signal and no one bothered to sort the problem until day 3. Just after the sorted it, they can back again and took the booster away and we never had TB 4th say. It’s was so hard to get them solving such a small simple thing. Also no smile from staff. It was hard to translate what emotions they are giving.
Lovely big comfortable room with large window and great sea view, staff very friendly and helpful, really good price, would highly recommend.
Just needed updating like new carpet and lick of paint new bathroom mind u .but ok for one night
Nice clean and friendly
A pleasant stay in this wonderful old building set on the ‘Golden Mile’ in GY. Alright the room was a little tired it was very warm & the bed was very comfortable. The buffet style breakfast was very good. All in all it was a good stay & very good value for money. I’d happily recommend it & would stay there again.
I’ve stayed here many times with work and I like the hotel - clean and tidy and traditional and it’s not expensive . But each stay it becomes apparent there is hardly any maintenance to the place. My room was large and when I opened the door, the large window was open / ajar and the room was freezing. I had to place a chair in front of the window to stop it blowing open as the mechanism is so old it no longer works. The radiators were off so it took all evening for the room to heat up - I was freezing. The toilet also is not fixed to the floor - it moved ! The whole hotel just lacks decent maintenance yet it was busy - bus loads of pensioners clearly loving it but the basics need sorting during the close season. Breakfast was excellent and staff always excellent.
Nice staff Great location right next to the beach
Nice clean room. Friendly staff. Good value for money.
Staff great and very friendly nice stay for a few nights away
Got a few bed bug bites had to go hospital when I got back home as got infected and put on antibiotics.Under the bed hasn’t been hoovered for months very dirty.
Rooms were not good. Had a terrible smell and unable to open window. Very disappointed with this hotel. We won't be going back.
Staffing good, but needs money spending on it to improve the quality and decor
Upgraded to a sea view room. Modern looking bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Iron and ironing board in wardrobe. Corridors old and tired but the room certainly made up for it.
Staff friendly. Hotel is run down. Needs painting refurb .Breakfast time odd.staff stand at the side watching you .Then come round with tea coffee. Like in old peoples home .food ok
Great
