Beautiful clean room with stunning bathroom. Great views. Lovely big lounge where you can sit and chat. Staff excellent and friendly.
Nothing
The room was tidy and the view exceptional. The cot provided for our child was perfect. The breakfast was delicious.
Nothing.
Lovely room and great location. Drinks reasonably priced for a hotel
We had evening meal and it was not that great.
Location and the view was great
The breakfast wasn’t great.
Lovely hotel with character. Room was gorgeous. Staff friendly. Dinner was excellent.

Beautiful building.
The hotel is well located about a 15 min walk from Rothesay and 5 mins drive from the ferry terminal. The staff were very friendly.
The decor is pretty tired and a bit grubby on close inspection; rips in the upholstery, smudgy windows, stained carpets etc. The sheets in our room had stains on them and although the bathroom was pretty clean it had a fusty smell.
Position view and old worldliness
No biscuits in room with tea things and no muffins or pastries at breakfast. Not much choice in dinner menu
The room was excellent
The kitchen closed at 8.30
Excellent location. Nice and comfortable room. Good breakfast. The morning visitor was very polite 😁
The bed was super comfy, and I really liked the renovated bathroom.
The top of the bathroom's sash window is covered with a panel. However, you can step under this panel when opening or closing the window. The part of the wall and window that's hidden is really dirty. With the bathroom having been renovated I can't understand why this hasn't been cleaned.

The building. The stairs. The furniture. The decor. The location.
Bathroom was tiny and I’m not immobile or porky. Pillows were far too big.
Location was perfect. Staff were very helpful, polite and professional

We loved the location and ambience of this hotel, meals were good and staff member Thomas was a credit to the hotel team
Shower was hopeless and we were there for a 3 day hike so would have welcomed a better shower
Good service good food clean
Hard bed & very hard pillows a bit out of the way
Good location, comfortable and really friendly and helpful staff and the room was a good size, had all good amenities and comfortable bed.
The drive into the hotel does not give a very good impression. Whilst comfortable and in good condition, the decor and furniture is rather dated and heavy.
The view was exceptional and the room was spacious. All the staff including the girls doing the room service were friendly, Thomas in the Dining Area was very efficient and good natured. We will try to visit again. Norrie and Irene
No complaints
Where it was situated and the sea view from the balcony
The walls are very thin and I could hear the person farting all night. It was disgusting.
See view - absolutely amazing. Very stuning interiors. Friendly supportive staff. The best location. Great atmosphere
Hotel a little tired but a great building. Dinner and breakfast only fair.
Food
Breakfast was excellent. Room was spacious and quiet. View across the Clyde was stunning. Had dinner inn the hotel most evenings we were there. Reasonably priced and great value. All the staff we encountered were great, always helpful. First view of the hotel and it's terrace front, from the ferry on the way in was special. Even the ferry from Wemyss Bay was memorable.
Not sure we can pick anything we didn't like. I am aware that in the heyday of this hotel it was the grandest on the island. It still is but due to age and circumstances perhaps (only perhaps) a little faded glory now. But still a fabulous place to stay.
We expected excellent accommodation and service and all our expectations were fully met.
Nothing.
The staff were very nice.
The hotel is in need of a major refurbish. It has old world charm but it needs a lot of work.
Breakfast well organised - selection of cooked and continental. Hotel full of character and atmosphere. Staff were incredibly helpful - rectifying an issue we had with our room with complete professionalism. Rooms are a good size, with comfortable beds.
Hotel is dated and needs a little tlc around the edges - but easy to look past this. Initial room had a strong damp smell - we were swapped without any hassle.
This was our third visit to the Glenburn so we knew what to expect. The staff were exceptional. Every one was polite helpful and friendly. The meals were particularly good but the breakfast was superb with such a good range of choices
This is the third year in a row we’ve been, we got married in Bute last year and the hotel was a big part of it. We’ve come back for our first anniversary this year and this place is one of my favourites. Its unique charm cheers me up every time and the staff are lovely. It’ll be a yearly thing for us. It’s always a joy
Old and quaint with a modern touch. Easy to walk to from ferry terminal. Lovely views and gardens . Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Clean
Shower didnt work
Our room was upgraded to the only suite and it was great to have the additional space and sofa area.
There was an item of clothing left in the wardrobe from a previous occupant but since we were only staying one night, we didn't use the wardrobe anyway.
Location superb Luxurious public rooms Friendly staff Clean, comfortable, efficient bedroom and en suite
Inadequate parking, some of which was on muddy waste ground. Long uphill walk if parking space was full. Significant parking space was occupied by coaches. The magnificence of the main building was diminished by the run-down condition of the external appearance of the extension areas.
A spectacular location with awsome views from both the public areas and bedroom with a sea view. The staff were great both friendly and helpfull. Room was very comfortable and there was adequate parking. The food in the restaurant was very good and the service excellent. Would happily stay again
The hotel has been very 'grand' and they are making good progress in returning it to that glory - a couple of areas are not quite there yet but they didn"t detract from our very enjoyable stay.
The room was comfortable, well furnished, and relatively spacious; the breakfast menu offered a good choice.
The staff at the hotel were outstanding. From the cleaning staff to the service in the restaurant the combination of functionality with genuine interest and care is hard to match. The Hotel itself is an amazing and atmospheric place to stay with faded grandeur and large open lounges and outdoor tables areas to relax with a drink. Somewhere you will go back to time and again.
There are so many corridors and rooms to explore that it would be impossible to clean all of them all of the time but more of the corridors that were regularly used could be treated to a vacuum from time to time.
Staff were lovely. Meals were good. Great sea views.
Some areas worn furniture. Walls were too thin - you could hear next room! Bed was too small and too firm. Pillows provided were too high.
The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very clean. The breakfast was very good with lots to choose from.
There were no pillow protectors, the fan wasn't very powerful in the bathroom. The main lighting was a bit dim in tbe bedrooms. We did wish there was freshly porridge available for breakfast and the food could be hotter.
The staff welcomed my parents back for their special golden wedding anniversary and they were lovely, kind and accommodating. Thanks!
Really friendly staff, lovely bar area for sitting in the evening with a welcoming atmosphere. Food was good.
This is a large 'old fashioned' hotel, it comes with all the charm of this, but also requires upkeep which will be really hard to maintain given the age of the building and the size of it/number of rooms.
I paid extra or a sea view and had an excellent view over the Clyde. Room was spacious and bathroom was clean and well maintained.
It would appear that the room beside our bedroom was at times used as a staff crèche which was noisy during late afternoon and early evening due to the number of children involved. There was no literature in the room, setting out meal times and/ or menus or any phone numbers for internal contacts such as the reception desk or outside emergency services.
Lovely grand old property with a fantastic view and gardens and really friendly staff
Construction works, tired stairways and hallways, no overhead shower
Beautiful view from the front of the property but not if you were in one of the back rooms. Dining and bar area was very nice. Buffet breakfast was good.
I’m sure it was very grand in its day but in 2026, parts are now dilapidated and closed off with the building held up by scaffolding! We were in Rothesay on the August Bank holiday and as there were no other restaurants open in the town on the Sunday evening (just takeaways) we were left with the option of eating in the hotel restaurant. What a mistake that was!! We both had fish and chips. Fish was ok but the chips were inedible and we didn’t eat them. We shared one apple dessert which was good. Add a couple of whiskies and 2 medium glasses of their cheapest red wine and the total bill came to £74.70, terrible value for money. The following night we drove to a small hotel at the bottom of the island where the food was excellent. Certainly wouldn’t go back to the Glenburn.
A beautiful building with period features and decor throughout the hotel The views are incredible. Staff were fantastic.
Excellent venison casserole for dinner. Didn’t have breakfast. Fabulous sea views. Very short walk into centre of town.
Standard of the decorating could be better ie bedroom doors. Bathroom upgrades very good.
The scenery from the Glenburn was beautiful. We had a delicious dinner on Fri 28th August which was our 50th wedding anniversary. We married in Rothesay..
The Glenburn looks more run down than when we were there in 1976. We were sad to see so many vacant buildings and shops in the town centre.
Well run grand hotel with excellent staff. The breakfast was the highlight of our trip.

A bit tired but all fine for a night
Lovely friendly hotel
Liked everything
Loved the view from the hotel, altho I didn't have a sea view, there was an outdoor seating area with stunning views over the water. The double room I had was very big. It had a bath too.
Nothing.
Uitzicht en badkamer
Parkeerplaats was er niet . Moest eind verderop in straat parkeren. Personeel niet zo aardig. Gebouw was een oude troep en slecht onderhouden.
I visited Rothesay earlier this year and stopped in at the restaurant for dinner one night which influenced my decision to book Glenburn for this trip. A Victorian, old-school-style island hotel, the decor may be dated for some, but I enjoy the vintage atmosphere along with elevated beautiful views of the water from the front. Less than 15min' walk from the ferry terminal and bus stops, and a good base to explore the rest of Bute from even if you haven't got a car. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly, the twin room was large, decorated classically, with lots of storage and tea and coffee facilities. My one wish was for a small fridge but it didn't affect my experience negatively at all. Breakfast is served buffet style with continental as well as individual fry-up selections, with some veggie options included, as well as toast, cereals, fruits and yogurts.
Frozen fish not fresh looked like a block of finds and at £19 very poorr
Amazing sea view from the rooms on the third floor. Very close to central Rothesay and easily walkable from the ferry port. Although busy, the hotel never felt crowded. Breakfast was buffet style and regularly replenished. Grand old hotel with wooden panelling and a large bar area with veranda seating to watch the sun down. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good food served in the evening. Modernised bathroom with a walk-in shower. Close to Rothesay shops and attractions. The island itself to the west has great beaches with stunning views to Arran.
The rooms were on the small side and in need of a new carpet and wallpaper. A bit of a funky smell from the bathroom extractor. Bed a little small and hard for my liking but not too uncomfortable. The hotel itself is a bit peeling in places and could do with some renovation but that adds a little to the charm.
great view!
windows are a bit moldy, needs a bit maintenance
Location and view
Needs a complete refurbishment. An easy thing to do would be wash the windows!
Faded elegance but comfortable and nice setting
Needed some upgrading
Location, architecture, gardens, and staff were excellent.
Interior and exterior a bit run down.
Undaunted by the poor appearance of the outside of the building, still in much need of refurbishment (repainting and repair of window frames, and fencing) we eventually found the reception desk at the side of the building where the entry had been taped off due to some safety issue. The interior with its large lounge, breakfast and dinner halls with wood panelled walls are magnificent, reminiscent of late Victorian splendour. The second floor bedrooms and corridors have been refurbished, the latter with a bright bold tartan carpet. Beds were comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The unrefurbished exterior of the building, the dangerous stairway down to the otherwise well maintained front garden, and the warning notice at the main front entrance door about no liability being accepted for accidents in the grounds.
Friendly staff clean roo.
Fortunately beyond your control the weather wS terrible. But will still return..enjoyed our stY regardless.
Great clean room, very nice and pleasant staff. Breakfast good and great start to the day. Nice bar for evening.
Lovely old hotel. Grand location
After a day's work the bathroom water wasn't warm. Bathroom needs anti-slip mat for, when using the shower .
Excellent location
The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. The view from our room was beautiful. We could see the sea and the hills in the distance. The buffet breakfast was delicious and there was a good selection of yoghurts, cereals, toast, fruit, gluten free cereals and hot food. The food in the evening was also good.
In some places the hotel just looks a little tired. Peeling paint, chipped plaster and so on. It's a shame for such a grand old building. But we still had a lovely time.
Good location. Good breakfast
Poor service in dining room. Bad housekeeping. No interaction with guests. Poor maintenance of rooms
Fabulous location with amazing views. I love these old hotels with so much history. The building itself is magnificent. the roon was comfortable, the bathroom was sparkling and it was just a treat just to be there
I think with these older places you have to bear in mind their age and see it as part of the charm. If you are looking for generic spanking new facilities then you might not be appreciative of some aspects of the hotel
Location good, staff all very helpful and friendly
Under the beds were not hovered & decorated outdated
Facilities were great, staff superb and dinner was very good. Location is top notch, walkable to the ferry and to the town amenities (however you need to be comfortable going uphill)
The structure is a bit run down, and the room was not spotless clean. We could hear noise from the adjoining room, however I cannot fault the hotel for this
The food
Nothing
Stunning location, easy parking and access. Restaurant meals excellent. Comfortable bed and walk-in shower in the room. So good I stayed for five nights.
Suited my needs, so no dislikes.
The location was ok, view is lovely
Room was dirty, old fashioned, placed with a view of trees outside, overpriced for condition of hotel overall defo wouldnt recommend.
The hotel breakfasts are really good, the room was alright would not say superior but had had the bathroom renewed, the view was excellent but the windows of the hotel need a good clean. The staff were good.
Dirty windows.
Old hotel needing modern facilities. Meal was lovely.
Having a shower in a bath is very dated.
The lounge, restaurant were good -we had 2 evening meals there both fine
The breakfast was OK -the usual buffet style but nothing exceptional
View Food mostly good but not varied.
Parking Look of outside of building
Second year staying at the Glenburn on weekend of Bute Highland Games, had a fabulous stay again. Staff really friendly and helpful. Rooms are a really generous size, bed and pillow extremely comfortable, bathroom had been recently redecorated it was lovely. Lounge area fabulous, wonderful views. We had dinner and breakfast at hotel both lovely. Really like this hotel. Suspect we'll try get booked in for Bute Games next year.
Nothing, all good.
Eigenlijk alles! Zo ontzettend vriendelijk. Alleen daarvoor willen we daar weer terug.
Eigenlijk niets.
Beautiful setting and stunning gardens, bed was unbelievably comfortable, had a fantastic sleep as it was very peaceful also very clean
The building is grand, charming and beautiful but needs a bit of TLC same with bathroom but that’s not a complaint just stating the obvious as the rest of the stay was great
Great location and views. Not far from town centre
Breakfast was basis.
Good central location. Quality of food was good.
Inadequate parking.
Stunning building, great setting and views. Staff were lovely. We stayed in a room with an upgraded bathroom and the shower was nice and hot/powerful.
The rooms were very dusty, especially around the radiator, and stains on the carpets. This would be an easy thing to fix. The menu wasn't great - very few veggie dishes (frozen veggie burger and a risotto).
The breakfast was great. A good selection of hot food and you could order scrambled eggs and porridge from the kitchen. The evening meals were amazing. We weren’t disappointed at all and we stayed for 3 nights. The room was a twin sea view. The beds were comfortable. The en-suite has been refurbished. Nice clean sheets. The staff were courteous. Special thanks to Sophie and Tom.
The provision of car parking is limited.
Excellent staff, great breakfast and great location
Friendly and helpful staff, good breakfasts and dinners, our room had the best view across Rothesay Bay
On arrival, my first impression was that the hotel was shabby. However, once I had learned that this is a historic listed building which is gradually being restored and refurbished, I was more sympathetic and could relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Friendly staff, great location !
Absolutely nothing it was horrific.
The construction all around the hotel. The filthy condition of the hotel and the outdated and disgusting condition of the rooms, the smell was unbearable. The front entrance was blocked by drunks who appeared to be using the hotel as temporary homelessness accommodation. The hotel owner/manager tried to convince us to take another room after accepting the condition was extremely poor but refused to offer a refund even though we refused to check in. Basically used the booking site to get money under false pretence as the pictures on the site do not represent the real condition of the construction site and horrible rooms.
The position provided good views of the area
In need of update as we felt it was badly run down
Abolutely loved this hotel to stay in. Friendly staff, beautiful room and lovely buffet breakfest! Beautiful views also we had a wonderful stay and will be back!
The prices for the meals a bit excessive for staying, i had sen children picky not much of a menue option for kids. It looked lovely for adults though! This hotels parking is tight and not the best for the amount of rooms at this hotel also.
Location location location
There were lots of hairs on the bathroom floor and the bathroom was rather basic, including toiletries. Food for breakfast was fine and dinner was good.
Lovely covered terrace overlooking the sea.
Interiors are bit shabby in places but everything was clean. Good value in a lovely location.
Not much
Cold Poor menu
Very comfortable with fantastic views. Beautiful bathrooms that appear to have been upgraded recently. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Tired and dated
Great location and view.
Room smaller than expected and not as shown on the website. Nowhere to store luggage. Only one bedside table. Whole building in need of updating, particularly windows. No residents lounge.
Everything food location quality of cleanliness decor etc
Didn't get a sea view buf I'm been a bot picky
Magnificent old style Victorian/Edwardian mansion
All good
Great location
Building is in a state of deterioration
The over all place and location and the feel if the place
There was marks on the carpets and the windows could do with being cleaned.
