EKHO Surf Bentota

We really liked the friendly, helpful, and supportive staff. They were always willing to assist and handled our requests with understanding, especially regarding the baby cot during the rain. The breakfast was also very good, with a nice variety of choices. We also appreciated the quick response when we informed them about the terrace door lock.

The hotel building and some facilities are quite old and could benefit from renovation. The car park is also a little far from the hotel, which can be slightly inconvenient, especially when travelling with a small baby.

Very nice staff, got free upgrade. Kanchana, heshani and sammani were very helpfull.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at EKHO Surf Bentota, and it was truly a memorable experience for my family and me. From the moment we arrived, Maleesha from Reception was extremely attentive and welcoming. She took the time to explain the property and its facilities in detail, always with a genuine smile and a great attitude. Her warm welcome set the perfect tone for our stay. A special mention to Dulip from the F&B team, who took excellent care of us throughout our meals. He was always attentive and made it a point to check on us from time to time to ensure everything was perfect. His service and hospitality were truly appreciated. A very special thank you to Dulaj for arranging such a beautiful room and making our stay even more memorable. The thoughtful touches, along with the splendid high tea and wonderful breakfast, made us feel genuinely valued and cared for. I would also like to sincerely thank Promoda, the General Manager, for personally ensuring that all the arrangements for our stay were taken care of. It was greatly appreciated and made the entire experience even more special. It was wonderful to see the improvement in the overall standards of the property, particularly in the rooms and the level of service provided by the team. EKHO Surf Bentota has certainly taken a positive step forward, and I believe it is a property that is definitely worth visiting. Most importantly, my wife and child thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and the experience. The location is good, if you travelling by train then the train stop is literally a stone throw away, some good restaurants right outside the hotel give you some option to choose from. The garden and the pool is sufficient to spent time outdoor, rooms u need only to crash.

Direkt am Strand gelegen, 2 grosse Pools, riesiges Frühstücksbuffet! Wir haben unerwartet und überraschend ein Zimmerupgrade erhalten. Die Kinder haben sich über den direkten Poolzugang sehr gefreut.

Bel hôtel à Bentota, qui est sur la côte avec une très belle vue sur l'océan, idéal si vous comptez vous baigner durant une grande partie de votre séjour. Le personnel est très accueillant et très serviable. Propositions variées pour le petit-déjeuner, allant de plats occidentaux à des plats locaux.

Les porteurs ont été un peu brutaux en portant une de nos valises. La valise a eu une roue cassée et une poignée à moitié arrachée.

Sehr herzlicher Empfang von Aruni, schneller check-in, Zimmer upgrade erhalten; großzügiges Zimmer und Balkon mit seaview; geräumiges Bad mit Pflegeprodukten; Wasserkocher mit Tee/ Kaffee; kleiner Kühlschrank; Safe im Schrank; reichhaltiges Frühstück local als auch western food; breiter Sandstrand direkt vor der Tür, der zu ausgiebigen Spaziergängen einlädt; 2 Pools, davon ein richtig langer zum Schwimmen; das gesamte Personal war überaus freundlich und hilfsbereit

Wie in allen Hotels in diesen Breitengraden gibt es klimabedingte Stellen, die regelmäßig überarbeitet werden müssen. Rissige Wände, Schimmelbildung etc. kommen schneller, als einem lieb ist. Das Management ist sich dessen bewusst und sorgt in der Nebensaison für Abhilfe.

Location of property at sea

We encountered many issues 1. The towel card : we were not given the towel card at the time of check in and when we went for swiming , we were not given the towel and staff rudely asked us to get the towel card first from reception , i travelled in swim suit to reception and there they said that travel cards are exhausted and they send one person along with me back to swiming pool and somehow we managed to get the towel [ i am not able to understand how such things can happen ] 2. Room Service was very poor , many times the phone was not picked up 3. We stayed there for 2 nights and both the day we had same breakfast !! 4. Few activities were mentioned outside the dining area but we couldn’t find them that where it happened 5. We stayed at 2nd floor and almost all the time their house keeping trolly was out side our room for 2 days

This property is right on the beach and our room opened directly on to the pool which the children loved. The beach has lovely soft sand and a Long Beach to walk along. There is also a walking track alongside the beach if walking on sand isn't your thing. The water was too rough when we stayed. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was good and had a good selection of different options. The passionfruit was fabulous. The resort has a gym which isn't advertised anywhere. The rooms are large. There is a very good restaurant right outside the resort across the railway tracks called bamboo.

The rooms are a little dated, but doesn't affect the quality of stay. The rooms would benefit from a drying rack out on the balcony to dry swimmers.

We have room attached to the pool. It was great .

Pool closes very early at 7 pm. It should be till 9 pm at least.

Ekho surf is easily one of the great options if you are in Bentota, Located just on the beach it gives you private access to a beach. The pool is huge and well maintained. If you have a ground floor room you just have a private access to the pool. The buffet menu is elaborate whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner. It has all the facilities of a good resort. A very well maintained property all together.

Indian dishes on the menu. They so need to have an Indian chef. If you are having such an elaborate Indian menu, you need to do justice to that which I specifically found missing. The taste, availability and presentation of Indian dishes is really bad. Also the train track just behind the property literally gives a shaky feeling if you are in activity room and train horn blares even when your room doors are closed.

Our air conditioning was really cold and couldn’t be adjusted. They came several times to fix it but in the end it still wasn’t fixed. We asked if we could be moved from there but they refused to do that. We won’t be going back there when we visit next.

The hotel grounds are well maintained and visually appealing, and the beachfront itself is lovely (although there is some visible rubbish, but that is just positioning of the ocean). The room was comfortable overall, and dinner was good with breakfast offering a decent selection. The standout staff were housekeeping and the grounds team. They were consistently friendly, hardworking, and proactive in greeting guests and checking in with how your day was going. The omelette chef at breakfast was also excellent and good banter.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing, largely due to poor organisation and lack of service from customer-facing staff. Activities advertised were not delivered. Water aerobics and bocce were both listed but did not run on either day. When I tried to locate the water aerobics, there was no staff present at either pool. After asking multiple staff members, I was eventually told it wasn’t running that day — with no apology or explanation. If activities aren’t running, they should not be advertised. Basic hotel processes were unclear. We were given towel cards but there was no signage or clear location to exchange them. The layout of the hotel is also quite non-intuitive, which adds to the confusion. Service in restaurants was inconsistent and frustrating. We were told we could order dessert à la carte in the main restaurant, only to then be told by another staff member that we had to leave unless we were having the buffet. We were redirected to the café, where options were even more limited, and then told to go back to the restaurant again. In the end, we gave up and ordered externally, which is not what you expect at a hotel of this level. Staff generally appeared disengaged and uninterested, particularly in guest-facing roles. There were often multiple staff present but not actively assisting guests. At check-out, staff insisted I scan a QR code to leave a “good review” and then asked me to prove I had submitted one, which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. The spa experience was below average and overpriced. The treatment quality was poor, and at times it felt like the therapist was distracted as she would only use one hand. There was also a large spider in the treatment room, which, while understandable in this environment, could have been addressed before guests noticed. The hotel itself feels somewhat dated internally, and while the room was fine, the shower clearly needs maintenance.

We stayed 2 days at EKHO Surf and overall had a truly great experience. The view was beautiful, the room was very clean, and everything was well maintained. The food was excellent throughout our stay. A special highlight was the restaurant experience. We would like to give a special thank you to S D Samara and Chamod Kariyawasam, who worked at the live kitchen. Both of them did an excellent job — very friendly, welcoming, and highly skilled. They prepared fresh food right in front of us, and everything was incredibly tasty. We even requested a few custom dishes, and they handled it perfectly. Their talent and passion really stood out and made our dining experience memorable. The buffet was also amazing, with a great variety of options to choose from. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and the staff truly made the difference. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at EKHO Surf Bentota and truly enjoyed every moment of our experience. A special thank you to Aruni from the front office for the warm welcome and for guiding us smoothly through the check-in process — she did an excellent job. We also celebrated our son’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel restaurant staff went above and beyond to make it truly special. We would like to personally thank Illiyas, Subashini, Imalka, Tharindu, Sadaru, and Ridmi for their outstanding effort and kindness. Subashini deserves a special mention as well — she is a talented photographer who beautifully captured our son’s birthday moments in a very unique way. The food was great, and the overall service was outstanding. Housekeeping also did an amazing job, keeping the room spotless with great attention to detail. Highly recommended — we will definitely be coming back!

Everything here was great. Big hotel/resort. 2 big pools, one deep, one long and shallow. lovely view and balcony. breakfast buffet was excellent, as was the dinner one. right on beach, close to town though why bother going there. beach is big and lovely. water temp was 29 degrees.

the advertised activities namely stretch class and aqua aerobics did not happen on both days. front desk staff knew nothing about it. a bit disappointing as we were ready and waiting. there is not much else at Bentota, just a bunch of resorts. Town is not much.

Great location, right by the sea. Rooms with a comfortable bed, desk, seating area, wardrobe and safe. Fridge, kettle, coffee, tea, and extra water free of charge. Balcony with direct sea views. Two Swimming pools, one of which is very large. A long sandy beach is perfect for a stroll. You can go surfing practically on your doorstep. Nice beach bar. Friendly staff. Tuc right outside the door.

Das Hotel hat eine außergewöhnliche Lage direkt an dem schönen und sauberen Strand. Auch die beiden Pools sind hervorragend. Insbesondere der direkte Zugang von einigen Zimmern zum Pool ist super. Das Frühstücksbuffet war lecker und für jeden Geschmack war etwas dabei.

Die Hotelanlage, insbesondere die Hotelzimmer sind deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. In unserem Zimmer waren einige Einrichtungsgegenstände (Lampen, Bilder, Spiegel) bereits defekt/ in keinem guten Zustand. Die Sauberkeit war deutlich ausbaufähig. Auf Handtüchern und Bettlaken waren zum Teil Flecken. Das Zimmer roch teilweise etwas muffig. Hier erwartet man von so einem Hotel doch etwas mehr.

It was a beautiful stay with a wonderful staff to help you out always. Special mention for Aruni and Shalika, great service! Must visit!

Had a lovely 4 day vacation at Ekho Surf. The best and most memorable experience for us would be the hospitality of the staff specially Ghayan, Subhashni and Ravisha they were the sweetest and most helpful. Loved the iconic beach view from the room. The food is delicious. Will definitely come again.

Nothing all was spot on

It was short stay of one night to attend a wedding ceremony in the nearby Bentota Cinnamon hotel. As we entered, offered apple juice as welcome drinks. The rooms were very big, as it was fully occupied, the washroom need some cleaning up, immediately they had done it. The staffs were excellent and attentive. The following morning buffet, my goodness it were beyond our expectations. I ate all the western dishes as I'm a local man. Cheaper when compared to nearest posh hotels.

Some people may find train noise and issue, but we didn't at all - in fact, walking across the train track to visit other local restaurants made theblocation feel authentically Sri Lankan

Ekho Surf was excellent - it far exceeded our expectations. Our room beside a 52 m pool was the highlight. All the staff were extremely helpful and always smiling - you can tell that they are proud of their hotel and also their country. We loved the towel origami. The hotel is ideally located half way between Colombo and Galle, which are easily reached by train, on a beautiful stretch of sand. There are plenty of shops and restaurants near by. We stayed for 2 weeks on a B&B basis. The buffet breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh fruit and Egg Hopper. Light lunches were taken at either Tuna Turner or Der Cafe within the hotel and then in the evening we used a variety restaurants just across the railway; our favourites were Tuna Tuna 33 and Happy Garden.

Location of the hotel. The response and attitude of front desk staff, the house keeping staff. The F&B Manager was very responsive and helpful.

Some of the restaurant waiters. They were not very responsive. They heard the request but never came back. Some of them had a very lackadaisical approach.

Beautiful oasis on the beach. Close to local restaurants and cafes. Super friendly and helpful staff who thoughtfully upgraded us. We had to extend our trip as we had been affected by the Iran war and had to delay our return home. Lovely bright and airy rooms. Immaculately clean communal, garden and pool areas.

Drinks were very overpriced compared to prices at restaurants across the road. Breakfast choices were very limited, compared to our other hotel stays in Sri Lanka.

Location is one of the best we have been to in Sri Lanka. Beautiful beach, clean, friendly staff, nice rooms, good beds, a bit mutch mosquito bites during the night. This is something that can be better. The food is one of the best, but it’s still buffet. Not the best, and not the worst. Good value. The best is the location and the beach. You can promote the massage better, they do a good job.
