Gamodh Citadel Resort

We had a lovely stay at Gamodh Citadel over the weekend. The hotel was easy to find and conveniently located close to many of the main landmarks in Anuradhapura. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the swimming pool was also very clean and well maintained. We especially appreciated having a security guard on site and safe, secure parking, which gave us peace of mind during our stay. We had breakfast at the hotel, and the food was delicious! The staff were very accommodating and happily refilled our food whenever we asked, which was a really nice touch. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. We’ll definitely be back! ❤️

Équipement pas tous opérationnel. Changement de chambre mais la deuxième était un peu moins bien que la première. Sinon rien à dire.

The pool was big and very nice, staff were friendly and helpful. Bikes can be rented, but for an 8-year old, the distance to the old city is still quite far on a rather busy road. Good beds.

Breakfast and dinner were OK, but not great. In one of the roti's I had for breakfast, I found a short cotton string. For dinner, most of the vegetables were not fresh. The tiles in the pool have sharp edges, which resulted in small cut in our toes.

Prachtig zwembad om lekker af te koelen. Ook de kamers waren fijn en ruim. We konden ook voor onze kamer savonds nog even zitten en wat te drinken halen bij de bar. Het personeel was echt heel vriendelijk en attent.

Het personeel is super vriendelijk, super behulpzaam en staan letterlijk dag en nacht voor je klaar. Hotel hielp ons met boeken van een stadstour door Anuradhapura en Safari tegen hele schappelijke prijzen. Ontbijtje to go dat werd verzorgd toen we om 5.00uur sochtends op safari gingen was goed. Domein ziet er erg mooi uit, kamers zijn voorzien van goede airco en bedden.

Badkamer stonk ontzettend en de lampen in de badkamer waren kapot. Toen we dit gemeld hadden hebben ze de lamp direct deels gemaakt. De stank werd opgelost door een raampje open te zetten (dit loste het probleem natuurlijk niet op). Zwembad in de tuin had veel diertjes en larven. Zwembroeken stonken toen ze eruit kwamen. Ontbijt op het domein was karig. Hotel ligt veel verder van het centrum dan op booking.com aangegeven (ligt echt niet in het centrum).

A beautiful air conditioned room with balcony. A lovely breakfast included, when out on an early morning tour, provided a takeaway breakfast . Exceptional value for money, and exceptional attentive staff. Would highly recommend.

Nothing it was perfect

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days (2 nights), and overall it was a very pleasant experience. We arrived quite late, but our room was already prepared. The reception staff member who assisted us (unfortunately I can’t recall her name) went the extra mile, especially considering we were traveling with a baby. She ensured the room was deep cleaned and ready for us upon arrival, which we truly appreciated. On our first night, we faced a few challenges with our baby, and when we contacted reception, Ishara responded immediately and resolved everything efficiently. His prompt assistance made a big difference to our stay. Breakfast was enjoyable, and the chef at the omelette station was particularly kind and attentive. There were also two lovely ladies in the breakfast area who were always willing to assist, although I couldn’t catch their names. During our stay, Isuru helped us several times and was always professional, friendly, and approachable. Induwara was also very helpful with our luggage—he never once let us carry anything ourselves and was always ready to assist with a smile. The entire team was warm and welcoming, including the security uncle, who was a very kind person. One small suggestion would be to consider providing daily housekeeping service for guests staying more than one night, which would make the experience even better. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and will definitely return in the future.

Not met our expectations. The booking.com photos were not reflecting the true status of the hotel. There were insects in the toilet.

The pool was great. Take away breakfast was great when we had a safari booked.

Seemed to be some trouble checking in. Laundry service a bit slow.

The pool, the rooms, the staff and the grounds. All well maintained in good condition creating an attractive environment to be in.

The food didn't live up to the reviews but we were given a great takeaway breakfast. The WiFi system is a real pain, needing new login codes and passwords all the time

Information sharing is not much accurate. Very less number of staff working there. After about 10pm, only security guard is there for every task, no receptionist or anyone to call or inquire at night.

Mooie tuin met veel vogels, eekhoorns en apen. Je kunt hier heerlijk tot rust komen. Zwembad goed. In de buurt van de toeristische plaatsen. Poolbiljard is leuk. Beetje oude tafel maar leuk om te doen. Vriendelijke, vrolijke en erg behulpzame medewerkers. Bed was prima en we vonden het fijn om een groot balkon te hebben dat uitkijkt op de tuin. Met een tuk tuk kun je makkelijk naar het station en de stad. Je kunt fietsen huren. Ik weet niet of ze goed zijn. Misschien komen we een keer terug. Maar er zijn verbeterpunten.

Dakrand lekt waardoor er roestig water op het balkon valt. Tegels in het zwembad kapot en scherpe randen. Veel chemicaliën in het zwembad. Maar we zagen gasten zonder douchen het zwembad in gaan en in het zwembad plassen. Er mogen meer ligstoelen bij het zwembad. Wifi werkt met een code en die verviel steeds. Handdoeken versleten. Geen koelkast aanwezig. Ontbijt is geen buffet. Ze brengen het aan tafel. Je mag geen eten van buitenaf meenemen. Maar we kregen 2 van de 3 keren ontbijt geen fruit. Ze wilden dat we bijbetaalden voor een extra ei, terwijl we geen vlees, vis en kip aten. Late checkout moet betaald worden. De regels zijn aan de binnenkant van de deur geplakt. Dit soort details vinden wij niet zo gastvrij. We vinden de prijs wat te hoog voor wat we kregen.

Heel mooie hotel, prachtig zwemad, schone kamers, lekker eten en wat een ontzettend aardig personeel. We hebben volop van alles genoten en vooral van de beleefdheid van het personeel. Top!

Beautiful place with a pool and spacious rooms and outdoors. Staff were friendly and very supportive.

Cleanliness of the floors and bathroom can be improved.

The service was very friendly, outstanding, and ever willing to facilitate our needs, every member of staff was absolutely outstanding, non more so than the ever willing Sahil. The swimming pool is big and very clean, as are the gardens. Loved watching the butterflies, birds and monkeys from our very, very large balcony.

The room has a fantastic wet room, with a jacuzzi type corner bath and two showers, unfortunately not all the systems are connected to the hotel water.

Restaurant staff were amazing and respectful. Foods were amazing.

We've booked a Family Room with four single beds and a garden view, but the room provided was completely different from what was advertised. The kitchen area was locked, and I was told I would need to pay LKR 5,000 to use it, or LKR 3,000 if the staff cooked for us. We had to request an extra bed and ended up sleeping in the living room and the staff provided a mattress with stained sheets which was absolutely disgusting. The staff member responded disrespectfully when we asked about these issues and showed some attitude by trying to pull the sheets and head out of the bedroom. Later, brought a good mattress after explaining the situation and why it wasn't hygienic. The hot water pump did not work initially and the room had exposed wiring around the mirror. Half of the equipment advertised on Booking.com wasn't provided. Overall, this was a misleading listing and a very uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend it unless significant improvements are made.

Large suite. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was very good and tasty.

Bathroom- It was a wet room so soaked the entire floor. Not something I like. Water pressure was poor. No hot water at all from rainfall shower. Nor into the bath. Wall shower functioned and gave hot water but the switch to start the water was so high I couldn't reach at all. My husband had to stretch up to on/off the water. Maybe something could be done about this for future guests of 5ft 2🙂

We booked 2 family rooms and one triple room for 11 adults and spent one night there. The location was really relaxing and nice. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and served us a really good welcome drink. Wifi connection was good but needed to get new user names and passwords for wifi access after completing the usage of 1GB in each phone. I think if they can increase the data limit, it will be easier to all guests and as well as to the hotel staff too. We extended the check out time untill 1:30 p.m. with paying a very small amount. I can recommend this hotel to everyone. Good Luck Citadel 👍

Staff was very helpful, careful with our needs as we were on a pilgrimage. we were family of 5 and two rooms were more than enough for our needs. Special thanks to reception and security staff for making us access way in and out on the unusual hours.

Staff were very friendly and professional, making us feel welcome from the start. The welcome drink and afternoon tea were absolutely delicious. Rooms are large, air-conditioned, and spotless. Overall, a great experience and very nice people to deal with.

The only area for improvement would be the limited Wi-Fi, especially since mobile signal strength in the area is weak.

Clean and comfy hotel in near the Anuradhapura ancient site. We had a wonderful stay in charming Hotel Gamod Citadel . Gently refurbished, preserving the old art deco details and yet with a fresh and up-to-date feel. Very clean and lots of space. Wonderfull breakfast with a choice for every diet. Very kind staff and great value for money. Right in the heart of Anuradhapura Ancient City "

Food and service is really good AC and the room space is not sufficient

Staff were so helpful and considerate ,both the manager and the guy who served us at restaurant. They even managed to prepare us breakfast the days that we had to leave before breakfast time. Tours they offer also have the best price. Swimming pool was very beautiful and large. Breakfast is great especially oat pancakes with coconut filling

Unfortunately, Only 2 of the staffs could speak English and when they weren’t present like at late night, communication with others was impossible.

We had a nice stay at Gamodh Citadel Resort. The room was good and the pool amazing. We also liked the breakfast a lot. Nuwan from the Lobby was very nice and he would help us out on everything. Thank you very much! :)

We were given a room on ground floor which looked like an old building. Room was awful with mould & damp in corner wall. Towels looked dirty & bathroom shower wasn’t working. We complained & they couldn’t fix shower. It was quite late at night so they moved us to a newer building on 1st floor which was much better. Bigger room & shower & balcony.

I stumbled upon Gamodh Citadel Resort during my recent trip to Anuradhapura, and I'm so glad I did! This place is truly fantastic. Its location is ideal, being within easy reach of all the major religious sites in the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. My room was spotless and comfortable, providing a relaxing haven after a day of exploring. The breakfast options were a delightful touch, with both Eastern and English selections to cater to various tastes. I highly recommend Gamodh Citadel Resort to anyone visiting Anuradhapura. It's an excellent choice for a comfortable and convenient stay.

Prices are a little bit high considering the facilities they offer and condition of their rooms

Location was good, staff were very attentive and helpful. We did request a room change as the 1st one offered felt like a dungeon. 2nd room was much better but the property is tired and in need a refresh of paint and furnishings. Food was good and pool was lovely to cool off in.

Property is in need of refurbishment, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms. The potential for this property to be gorgeous is there.

Our stay at Anuradapura was mainly for pilgrimage and part time work on line. It was just 10 min drive to important places like sri maha bodi and Maha seya. The breakfast was prepared according to our request and it staisfies our need.

Bathroom getting wet as the shower area is not covered by a glass partition or simple curtain. The free wifi data offered was not enough even for one day and we were not informed about free top up.
