Amazing utilities and service, it’s great choice for this time of my Japan travel . I will revisit this hotel in future. We enjoy perfect Kaiseki Ryori at night and next morning on private room with fully English commentary.

High privacy hotel, six rooms only, although our room no Osen but they a private room Osen which we can use when it’s vacancy without reserves. The public Osen always only occupied by me not crowded of people. Dinner and breakfast also excellent we have a private room to having it. We arrived the bus stop at 12:30pm which was earlier than the shuttle bus pick up time, but they specially arranged to pickup us , so we also have a earlier check in, thanks a lot.

The staff is extremely warm, attentive and caring. I am blown away by their hospitality. I felt taken care of very well during my stay. Very grateful to them. The details from the start to finish are impressive. The room is lovely and bed is so comfortable

It would be great to have a shower in the room

Even before entering, I felt relaxed. The approach was clean and simple, the lobby elegantly Japanese. On cold days, staff offered hot drinks.

Very helpful staff, good location, delicious meals

It filled the gap between a traditional ryokan and a modern, contemporary experience more accessible by international travellers. The staff — Raman especially, and Arantika (?) — was EXCEPTIONAL.

The dining experience was a bit cold, the food was amazing, but the environment of private rooms felt a bit small as it was windowless. I was also really stressed about timing and punctuality as i understood this was Japan.

Our stay at Shima Onsen Yoshimoto was excellent from the lodging to the staff to the amazing Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts. They have 3 excellent English speakers for those of us who can only speak a little Japanese and the rest of the staff is very respectful and polite. It is one of the most memorable of our many Onsen stays!

It is an 8 room traditional onsen. So very charming! The staff is very professional, helpful and friendly. They have 3 excellent English speakers on staff and made sure all our needs were met. We were there for 3 nights and each breakfast and dinner were excellent! The chef does an incredible job. Additionally, I left my jewelry pouch in the room when we checked out, they notified me immediately and sent it by courier to my next destination!

The breakfasts were amazing. They were served in a private room and were delicious and beautifully laid out each morning. The staff was very kind and always helpful. The room was so comfortable and well designed. The private onsen was easy to use and perfect temperature. It was amazing to be such an easy walking distance from restaurants and shops. The hike up to the dam was incredible. I can gladly recommend this excellent ryokan! We’ll be back. :)

スタッフは気がついていないでしょうが、リネン、寝具を多分ですが外注でクリーニングされてるんでしょうが、ものすごく気になる匂いがして困りましてた。

Tha room was lovely, the onsen was wonderful, the kaiseki dinner was amazing as was the Japanese breakfast. The staff was very kind and vonsiderate. A perfect experience.

The place was very clean. The Staff are exceoptional and exteremely friendly. The location is a lil far but still easy to get to and in the end, you are rewarded with a serene place, and lovely weather even in the summer. The pictures I shared of the srounding area are in the summer.

Tout était parfait. Le personnel était très attentionné et sympathique. Les chambres et l’établissement en général sont splendides. Mention spécial pour le dîner et le petit déjeuner qui étaient délicieux !

I had issues with public transport, messaged the property through booking.com and was responded to promptly. Staff very helpful. Very close to Szekizenkan (must see at night). Private onsen in our room is huge and lovely. Everything was wonderful.

Fantastic experience! To spend a night in a rustic (albeit with some medernities like AC, fridge and so on) is a must when in Japan. The stay in Yoshimoto was a very pleasurable example of such a place. The room we stayed in was spacious and there was a wide selection of spirits and craft beer available for roomservice. They have a public onsen for each gender and a gender mixed that you can have for yourself (30min max). The former are split into both inside/outside, and the gender mixed is inside. We were here in late june, and while it was around 27c outside, it was still very nice to relax in the extremely hot onsen water. The highlight of the stay is the kaiseki dinner though. Chef Nakada Tetuyuki is a master at his craft! The staff is also very nice and accommodating. In summary, a very pleasurable stay!

This was my favorite place that I stayed at during my trip to Japan. The dinner and breakfast were both amazing. The ambiance was relaxing.

Our stay at Shima Onsen Yoshimoto was spectacular. The entire staff is so hospitable and welcoming, they make sure everything is always perfect.

This is a lovely 'boutique hotel' in an absolutely beautiful part of the area north of Nakanojo near Lake Okushima. I wanted a truly Japanese place and I got it. Few, if any, 'foreigners' in the area. I was provided a bike and road around for 3 hours. The owner is a beautiful, kind lady and her and her staff treated me like a king. I had a room with a private hot spring pool - all I can say is "wow". If you want to see a place off the beaten track, I highly recommend this hotel.

This place was incredible. 1000 years old and very good value for money. I did get scared about bears when I went for a smoke late at night, then the anxiety carried over into my bedroom where I was having nightmares about Oni and other japanese themed ghosts haunting my room. The staff were incredible, but I was extremely disappointed that there was neither an iron available (possibly due to the tatami floors) and there was no ironing service available from the staff. I would be happy to pay, but ironed clothes are very important to me and I would assume many guests feel the same. I will give the bed a bad rating because after a life of pocketed springs I cannot sleep on the floor. I find futons to be completely unbearable.

Beautiful city, food was amazing, our room was very nice.

The location is not that easy to get to from Tokyo. Travel is much longer than we realized.

A gorgeous ryokan experience. The vibe at the house is quiet and stylish. Our room had a private onsen, just the perfect size for us. It was really nice to enjoy the heat of the water on our balcony while looking at a gentle snowfall. The public bath was beautiful as well, with both in and outdoor onsen. They have a private bath available also. The dinner was extraordinary. Our first take at a kaiseki meal, and we were delighted. The person serving us was really helpful and understanding, with great english! All in all a great stay, and we felt truly welcome!

Clean, silent, comfortable.

Without question the highlight of our 2 week trip to Japan. We were lucky to catch the first snow of the season in mid December and the views were unbelievable. Service, cleanliness, and qualify of the meals were all top notch. All things considered, my partner ranked dinner here above a 2 Michelin star course we did in Tokyo. Shima onsen Yoshimoto is such a unique experience that it's in a league of its own from our other activities in Japan. We will definitely cherish this memory. An icing on the cake, they also granted my special request for a birthday cake wonderfully. In terms of transportation, we took the limited-express train from Tokyo, which was straightforward and can be reserved ahead of time online. Would absolutely recommend!

Beautiful onsen stay in a small town - a special part of our Japan trip. The meal was amazing and such a great experience for our family. We had a private bath on the balcony which was great for the whole family

There was a tree banging on the gutter from the wind outside our room for most of the night which was very loud and we could not sleep. I tried to tell staff but language was a bit of a barrier. Beds are also Japanese style which was not the most comfortable for us.

A small but cosy ryokan. Our room is very modern, big and clean. A marriage of tradition and modernity. Besides the 2 separate Men and Women onsen, there is a private onsen which you can use if it is not occupied. Food is good and served in a private room (quite small though).

We stayed in the Bamboo/Take room which looked recently renovated and married modernity with traditional ryokan interior well (the hair dryer was Dyson!). We enjoyed our stay in the Take room greatly (great use of space) and the breakfast provided was superb. We have tried other ryokan food before but most of the time the food wasn’t quite suitable for our non-Japanese palette so this was a pleasant surprise. The ryokan itself is traditional with a nice public open air bath. Finally, the staff were really nice and the hospitality was superb.

It would have been great if we could check out later than 10am (we’ve enquired and there are additional fees per hour for checkout past 10am)

Everything was amazing, the staff were incredibly kind, friendly and helpful and the room was absolutely gorgeous. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic, and the onset was very very enjoyable.

There was a bit of construction going on next door when we were there but it wasn’t that noisy or disruptive.

Incredible stay, wish we could have stayed longer! Open air bath was lovely, sea salt scrub felt incredible, food was delicious, staff was friendly and spoke English! Definitely want to come back!

Beautiful room and excellent private and shared onsen.

Just noting that it’s a bit of a walk from the main bus drop off point. It was fine for us but something to be aware of if you aren’t using a car.

You can use the private onsen almost of the time if you don’t have onsen in your room.

Water is too hot, and the food is average

The property is very nice and calm. The staff was exceptionally nice and provided a good service. However our standard Japanese style room was a bit dark and the river was not visible due to trees.

This is one of the best onsen I have ever been to. The place is located in a really peaceful place. We were welcomed by their kind staff and given us welcome tea and sweets. We have a family room which is really spacious. What I enjoyed most is our own private outside onsen which has a view of mountains and trees. The onboard meals are also SPECTACULAR! People might find the price a bit pricey but its all worth it! the experience is topnotch. If you will come via public transport, please note that there could be a bit of uphill walk from the bus stop. Other than that, it was a really lovely stay. It feels more like a retreat. Truly rejuvenating!

Nothing. everything is good. I have nothing bad to say. But I hope they can offer a pickup service from the bus stop because there could be a bit of walk especially when you have big luggage.

Presentation and quality of dinner and breakfast were outstanding. The staff were very kind and caring. The room was nice and clean. Everything was perfact at this inn and we had an amazing experience.

部屋が新しく清潔、温泉も十分な広さと熱さで、とても快適に過ごせました。配膳係りの方々にも部屋食でお世話になりました。ありがとうございました！食事は炙りの鯖寿司と、初めて食べたすっぽん雑炊が特に美味しかったです。

I stayed at Tokiwasure-no-Yado Yoshimoto for two nights in December 2023. Everything was impeccable - the service, the room, the onsen and the staff were all lovely. Much thought and care has gone into the elaborate, exquisitely plated kaiseki breakfasts and dinners and each room has all the comforts and amenities a luxury onsen getaway could ask for. Even better, this ryokan did not discriminate against me as a solo traveller and allowed me to stay in the main building in a spacious and luxurious room with its own private onsen. There is a separate area in each room with a private bath for changing, cosmetics and drying one’s hair which I found highly convenient and made good use of during my stay. The private onsen attached to my room was comfortable, overlooking the lush green forest and hillside where the ryokan is situated. I will definitely be stopping by Shima Onsen again and Tokiwasure no Yado Yoshimoto will be my accommodation of choice.

The staff was very friendly and helpful! We were made to feel really welcome. They were waiting with umbrellas even during the rain. Food portions during breakfast and dinner were just right and the food was great! As it was a small ryokan, the baths were never crowded.

Room was a bit too cold as we were in the corner and the heater couldn't heat up the whole room. Definitely having a car would be a plus.

The staffs were very kind and the food was excellent! The private bath was beautiful! Definitely recommend.

部屋の露天風呂やベランダが自然豊かで寛げ最高でした。食事も味、ボリューム共に良かったです。また訪れたい旅館です。

8室だけの小さな宿なのでとても落ち着いて居心地の良い、食事の美味しい、清潔な宿です。スタッフの接遇も行き届いています。以前、途中たまたま立ち寄った中之条ガーデンのバラ園が素晴らしく、それからは夫婦で春秋のバラの時季に合わせて年2回宿泊しています。料理は和食中心で、贅沢な素材はないけれど、一品一品丁寧に工夫された調理と味付けで感動します。 It is a small inn with only 8 rooms, so it is very calm and cozy, with good food and cleanliness. The staff is also very attentive. We happened to stop by the Nakanojo Garden rose garden on the way to the inn and were so impressed with the garden that we have been going there twice a year in the spring and fall, just in time to see the roses and stay at the inn. The food is mainly Japanese, and although there are no extravagant ingredients, each dish is carefully prepared and seasoned erabolately to impress.

This place is quite famous for Onsen and we were not disspaointed. The ryokan was quite small, only 8 guest rooms threrefore the service was excellent since we arrived. The onsen was excellent. they have private onsen for 2 people and normal onsen for guest both indoor and outdoor (with very nice view of Momiji). The best part was dinner in kaiseki style. There were plenty of dishes all of which was very delicious with very nice service by ryokan staff. the room was quite large with toilet. We had a very good sleep and enjoy the view from the room. The breakfast was also very good indeed and very tasty. We did enjoy our stay very much. although it was not cheap to stay for 1 night but it is much worth your money. Excellent.

お料理が美味しく個室で食事ができ、客室数も少ないので、他の宿泊客にほとんど会わず静かに時を過ごせるお宿です。

宿泊したのは去年リフォームされたばかりのスタイリッシュできれいなお部屋でした。ダイニングスペースとくつろげるスペースがあるのでとても快適に過ごすことができました。小物やお皿、家電などにこだわりを感じられました。 スタッフの方の対応も丁寧でしたし、食事もとても美味しくちょうど良い量でした。 温泉はシンプルですが、アメニティーなどで工夫が見受けられました。 お値段的に安くはないお宿ですが、お部屋から頼めるお酒の値段がお手頃なのは嬉しいポイントでした。周囲には何もないのでお篭りするにはいいかもしれません。

とても満足してます。 静かで落ち着ける隠れ家的な旅館です。 チェックインして、まず部屋にある半露天の風呂を満喫しましたが、とても良いお湯です。景色も最高です。夕食が美味しかったので、朝食も楽しみにしていましたが、期待以上でした。 従業員の方も、みなさん感じが良かったです。外国籍の従業員の方もいしたが、日本語も上手ですし、従業員教育がよく出来ている思います。 また四万温泉に訪れることがあれば、また泊まりたいです。

部屋数が少なくお風呂は3回入りましたが毎回貸し切り状態でした。 お食事も素晴らしく、接客も丁寧そのもので、非常に好感が持てました。あと電動自転車の貸し出しもgoodです！

Family of 2 adults and 2 kids (12 and 8 yrs old). The ryokan was lovely and the rooms were good sized and very nice, with outdoor bath and patio overlooking the river. The service was very attentive and the staff very polite. Dinner and breakfast was very delicious and way too much. We loved it.
