Only negative was the evening meal. Did not justify the price. Table service was excellent but the quality of the food was below par for the price. For example: a starter from the kid’s menu and a burger from the main menu for the same kid ended up costing £25 for the burger, due to how pricing works. Everything else about the hotel was lovely but next time we would go out to eat. Breakfast, on the other hand, was exceptional, especially the cooked breakfast. Tasty, healthy, well presented… We have to assume there is a different chef doing breakfasts.
From the photographs, Kincraig Castle Hotel potentially offered so much but delivered on nothing. My room, whilst large in size, was tired with mildew on the blinds and furniture from the 70s. A most uncomfortable bath. Dinner was dreadful. The location was the bar with 70’s style small metallic looking round tables squeezed in. My starter of homemade scotch egg was bland and tasteless and looked as if a small child had made it! It was accompanied by large pile of salad leaves and carrot. The waiter brought a bottle of dressing which turned out to be vinegar. I had to ask for salt and pepper as the cruets hadn’t been laid on the tables. My main course was absolutely inedible: the asparagus was grey, slimy and probably from a tin. The broccoli was equally grey and dreadfully overcooked. The sweet potato mash was horriblel having been over spiced and the tiny fillet of farmed sea bass was soggy and unpleasant. Breakfast was equally poor. How do you serve a grey sausage that has no caramelisation? Definitely a hotel to avoid! This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel!
We chose this spot since there was nothing available in inverness (due to a marathon) where we would have stayed to visit the highlands. The area outside is pretty but the hotel needs updates and renovations badly. The windows are in terrible shape and I think there was mold in the room we stayed. There was no thermostat for heating so it was either too hot or too cold with the system in the room. Also they need more staff. We like to give a shout out to Vijay who helped us during our stay with check in, showing our room, taking bar orders, and server breakfast. They had two other people on Saturday night and that's it while they had two large parties of people go were also staying as hotel guests.
The meals were superb, staff friendly full of local information. We stayed 3 nights and used it as a hub to travel both north and south The sitting room and bar are fit for Royalty!
Very warm welcome at check in and helpful explanation of the facilities available at the Hotel. Clean room.
This castle is adorable. It's farther from Inverness than anticipated but nevertheless we enjoyed our stay. A few notes, the staff is SMALL. The daytime housekeepers double as evening bartenders and restaurant servers. The restaurant is quite good, but service is slow. The front desk lady is delightful and they made all efforts to accommodate our needs. (They rolled a cot into our room for our son, it was lumpy and uncomfortable but an extra mattress helped!) The room and bathroom and really the whole place is quirky and creaky like you'd expect, and walking the grounds was wonderful. It was essentially a B&B in an old mini-castle, and just what you'd want staying in ancient Scotland. (For a couple days, we wouldn't have wanted to stay there much longer.)
It is a perfect drive to the Dunnrobin castle in the morning !We loved this stay but the dining room was an issue bc we had to reserve time slots to eat; also the food quality was ok; my burger was not good meat but i think a mix with meat; and the bread with my soup the first nite was white toast not homemade bread, yet 2 nd nite they had a hardy homemade bread with soup; also the meals forced you to have a 2 or 3 courses when we just wanted simple meal ; the bruchetta was horrible with loads of raw onions so they need a new bruchetta recipe i think. otherwise the room was nice and staff was nice!
Beautiful castle hotel with good dining and excellent service.
Excellent experience. Staff was very pleasant, the hotel was clean and atmosphere was inviting.
At first, this is a perfect hotel for a quiet stay in the highlands of Scotland! Just perfect, cozy, bucolic and inspiring country side castle hotel. The staff is friendly and accommodation is very clean. There is only one issue and that made me reduce the rating for 5 stars to 2 stars: the hotel staff required us to book a time slot for the breakfast and the only slot available: 7am on a Sunday easy going morning. Not sure if it is understaffed to accommodate all guests during usual weekend breakfast, bit just completely inconvenient for holidays.
Staff were very nice and helpful especially Vijay . Room and bathroom very spaciousbut the We had few problems It was hot
Very beautiful setting. Quiet and peaceful
Beautiful property. Great service.
Good location, very clean and friendly
Lovely building. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Food was very good. Grounds are pretty. Really busy main road to cross and not an easy entrance to spot in fast moving traffic.
Beautiful historic property that is well maintained. Lovely traditional Scottish interior decor. Luxurious bedroom and bathroom. You feel like royalty staying here. Staff excellent and very hospitable.
This property has so much potential if only some $ can be spent in updating it. The decor and fittings seems dates like from 1980s and please spend some $ on better bedding and pillows etc . So much potential but lost due to lack of investment
Great friendly staff. Excellent service, restaurant food was great a in a cozy setting
The staff, room and hotel was very nice. But I have to say the prices for a hotel in the Highlands was London prices. Also we took breakfast with the room and when we checked out, and I checked the bill, they charged for herbal tea, this was never explained to us. The lady at the reception took this charge off.
Wonderful rustic location. Excellent food.
We had a blast at the castle!
This facility showed a set of photographs of the room, very different than what we received!! Totally disappointed!!
This was a very unique place and stay. I would recommend for an intimate overnight. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful and the food was really good. Enjoyed our stay.
Wonderful staff and beautiful setting
Highly recommend. Charming and great staff.
relaxing break
Lovely friendly hotel, it’s a quiet time of year, so although staff was limited we were very well attended to. The bed and breakfast side was perfect, but the evening meal selection was very limited and pretty basic, but it didn’t spoil our stay
Staff are very attentive and cant do enough to make your stay a pleasure. Breakfast cooked to irder. My friend said the pancakes were fluffy and the best he had ever tasted and poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Dinner menu could be a bit more variable. Especially if you are staying more than 1 night, but the food was delicious. An elevator/ lift would be most appeciated !! Overall a most enjoyable visit.
Absolutely loved my stay - the hotel is very clean and the staff are so friendly and welcoming- The hotel was warm and spotlessly clean and the food was fantastic- both dinner and breakfast- was lovely to be able to sit with our drinks at an open fire - We will be back very soon xx
Wonderful location and great service.
It was ok . Service was good. Food was not good.
Excellent service
Amazing stay. Castle is warm, elegant, quiet, welcoming. Room was spacious and cosy. Raj was awesome and made us feel so special. Beautiful breakfast, 5 plus stars all round. Hope to visit again.
Just one night here on business. Arrived late to very friendly welcome. Lovely room. Spotless. Comfy bed and excellent shower. I enjoyed the eggs benedict for breakfast. Would stay here again. Recommended.
Such a shame that this place is being run into the ground. Our stay was literally like an episode of Fawlty Towers. They are short staffed and the poor staff have way too much to do the waitress was acting as receptionist, front of house, server, bar lady, clearer and waitress. The staff were hopelessly unaware of intolererences in particular gluten free in our case. The GF cheeseboard ended up being cheese on GF toast. The black pudding which was clearly not GF was thankfully incinerated to a crisp so inedible anyway and the prosciutto asparagus was like crispy bacon. The rooms are very tired and the showers do 50°c or zero °c and nothing in between. Sorry, we will not be back
Was quiet and peaceful. Nice stay.
Beautiful old building on the NC500. Simply stunning, from the long driveway and grounds to the grand lounge and dining areas. Bedroom was an impressive size with tasteful period style decor. Staff were all great, food was superb.
We thought our sons would enjoy staying in a castle but I was wrong. The building was quite a bit rundown and had no AC. It would have been ok if we could have had the windows open but there were no screens on the windows so the room filled up with gnats. Thankfully the service was excellent and we were able to gets fans for the rooms which certainly helped. The food and drinks were delicious! We also enjoyed the property and the ponies.
It is a castle, and very beautiful views
Beautiful grounds and location. The hotel restaurant was closed so just a limited bar menu and it would have been good for that to have been disclosed prior to arrival. The highland cow kids toys on arrival was the sweetest gesture! Overall we enjoyed the stay :)
Great as a bread and breakfast. May be best to eat out for dinner.
The house is beautiful, the common areas too, excellent breakfast and good 24x7 bar
Très bel endroit . Personnel super . Chambre grande, décoration très simple dans les chambres, mais un peu cher rapport qualité -prix.
Seen better days no dining service not told till arrived internet very poor over priced for level poor food
Beautiful quiet countryside experience
Lovely place that needs a bit of upgrading
The apartments are very modern and comfortable and we enjoyed the location. It was very quiet and the view of the loch was very nice. The manager was very responsive when I had questions and provided recommendations for restaurants that were convenient to our travel plans. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the area.
Booked this stay for its Castle description for a special celebration. Everyone on the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Some may call this place ‘dated’ but imo it was elegant in a hunters lodge/castle-y way. Beautiful bathroom, large room and comfortable bed. Nicely appointed with 2 desks and club chairs and table with view of the grounds. Petted ponies and saw bunnies. Great food. Thank you Chef for the sweet treats! Thank you Joy for the nice room assignment. Thank you to Salil and Alison and to those that we didn’t know your names. What fun!
Of all the 8 venues we stayed in check in was the most tedious and time consuming. It was very puzzling to me.
Great staff in traditional highland hotel
The hotel is very nice and well-maintained. Personally, we were not satisfied with the evening staf. I had the impression that only cleaning ladies work there. We booked an evening meal. We were shocked, there was nothing to eat from the menu. We ate the most expensive fast food for which we waited 55 minutes. We liked the water the most, which we also had to pay for. I will not describe more, but such ignorance is not found in any hotel
If you are expecting the resturant on a sunday think again. we had travelled all day hoping to have a nice evening and meal . Only to be told the restaurant was closed. If we wanted food we could drive into the next village or order a takeaway. They did supply cutlery and plates for the takeaway. They also did have a list of restaurants and takeaways. The room was very dated, tiles in bathroom needed regrouting. We were supposed to be in a superior room. I dont know what the basic rooms were like. and also not cleaned properly. There were crumbs on the dresser.
Great staff in a quirky historical calm house
Staff and service was excellent.
It is a very comfortable country house hotel. The drawback is the restaurant is presently shut on Sundays and Mondays thus food has to be obtained elsewhere.
Beautiful building and grounds with very friendly staff (especially Sam & Mel) however Internet service is like something from the 90s. Three days of extreme frustration with service constantly dropping when trying to work. Complained numerous times but nothing improved. Excellent breakfast however lunch and dinner options extremely limited. Only 3 main course choices from Bar menu that closed at 5pm and only 3 choices from Dining menu also and they were same each day. No food available after 8.30pm, even for resident's.
Great place to overnight. Staff very attentive and kind. Breakfast kippers awesome!
Lovely relaxing stay,would certainly return
Great hotel, dinner was super and the staff is great. Large rooms and very comfortable. Perfect location.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Rooms were lovely as well.
Very nice restoration. Excellent breakfast. Exceptionally helpful staff.
Fabulous, historic hotel in beautiful gardens & excellent condition with welcoming & efficient staff.
A cute little castle hotel tucked away in the highlands; however they really need to work on their plumbing. Toilets wouldn’t flush in room or lobby bathroom. Tub water pressure was so low it took 30+ minutes to fill. When we spoke to their maintenance person, the reasoning was because of too much use in the hotel at the same time. Doesn’t feel like they’re equipped to be full? Not a lot of property / grounds to walk around on. Expensive for having plumbing issues.
The property is very nice. It is maintained well, except for a few carpet tears here and there. Plenty of parking and the location with the view of the valley is exceptional. The staff is very kind and accommodating. My only is issue is there is no lift (elevator) to having to carry heavy luggage up 3 flights of stairs was not fun. Aside from this, I would recommend it.
Excellent
Really enjoyed our stay. Lounge area was amazing with a variety of seating in different arrangements. Bar snug was really comfortable. Loved the chairs that twirled. Our room was spacious. It was accessible and partner was delighted with the shower which was so easy to access. Room would benefit from some updating and I believe that’s on the cards, it was however, very comfortable. Outdoor area looked really nice. Lots of outdoor seating, and the pods looked great for eating in the evening. Staff were all super friendly and helpful.
Really lovely spot. Great breakfast and great staff.
This is a lovely charming property in a beautiful setting. The ambiance, large well-furnished room and views were much appreciated. We highly recommend.
Delightful setting. Will definitely go back.
Very nice stay
We recognised that the hotels in the highlands on the NC500 route weren’t that good but the Kincraig hotel didn’t even meet our low expectations. The general conditions were poor, the rooms were not maintained - even the bed wasn’t made during our 2 night stay. The food was ok but we certainly won’t be returning.
Like: the character. Dislike: prices could be more competitive. Staff: excellent
Very welcoming lounge with open fire.
Beautiful place!
The food and service was excellent defo go agin
Brilliant stay , good sleep large windows allow plenty of fresh air Only quibble is need to have beans with the breakfast otherwise to dry
We arrived before checkin time, but the staff welcomed us to wait in the lounge and we ordered lunch and drinks. The room was very comfortable and well furnished. The staff was lovely, and we ate dinner and breakfast there. The dinner was delicious, but a bit overpriced. The breakfast had lots of options and we greatly enjoyed it. Would stay here again anytime.
Lovely overnight stay in very clean, cosy & comfortable surroundings. Really enjoyed our evening meal, food was delicious. Staff very attentive.
Beautiful country hotel with ambience and fantastic service. Loved our stay and highly recommend.
excellent food
Had a fantastic time . Very friendly staff
EXCELLENT STAY. GOOD SERVICE. FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. WE'LL BE BACK.
Friendly and warm welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were amazing to us. We loved the relaxed atmosphere and was totally chilled. Will be going again soon.
Amazing location, food, staff and large open fire, well worth the journey. The staff were so helpful and engaging, we bought a few of the locally made jewellery that was on display. Large rooms with super comfortable bed, large bathrooms. The lounge by the fire having a drink after a cold day out sightseeing was welcomed.
Stayed two nights while visiting my daughter who lives nearby. Have stayed once before so knew the quality we were returning to. Staff were all exceptionally friendly and the hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Only downside was not getting to spend enough time enjoying the hotel.
Room was crazy hot when I entered. No way to turn it down so had to open windows (no screens). No place to put luggage. Shower was odd - it didn’t move so you had to stand against the wall. Water pressure was low, which made for a long, un refreshing experience.
OK
Our two-night stay was wonderful. The people who work there were all super helpful and nice. They were happy to provide personal services like finding a fishing trip for my husband and the team finding me a place I could do some work while a manager Stephan went out of his way to make me the most delicious iced tea on the house. I highly recommend Kincraig hotel.
Great place, beautiful surroundings, quiet place.
Kingcraig was booked as a respite from camper vanning whilst completing the NC500 and to celebrate my birthday . From start to finish our stay was beyond expectations. We were made to feel very welcome in an fabulous hotel in an outstanding area . The food was amazing and despite my vegan requirements nothing was too much trouble . Without any hesitation would recommend and we are certainly considering returning ( hopefully for a longer stay ) in the foreseeable future
The hotel was not worth the money. Breakfast good. Evening meal poor.
Found menu to be limited for what we like and was disappointed. Shower did not work very well. Staff worked hard to make your stay good.
We had a lovely overnight stay, the highlight of which was the tasting menu, which was really excellent 😋
Everything was delightful, even the grumpy sign about dirty dishes! Breakfast was amazing, local and piping hot. The cottage was perfect for our family, and had a slow washing machine (works) but use the rack in the closet to put in by the radiators (faster than the drier). My children were seriously happy with with the cute cottage and the creek. We went for a small walk in the nearby park, and it was just the right amount of gentle adventure for children. We enjoyed it more than the fancier castles because it's actually set up for families, and the food was better!
Everything about
Great start to our NC500 short break. Friendly staff, comfortable accomodation and great food.
I liked how welcome I was made to feel. The property was very clean and this is a hard job for such a large older building The food was to a very high standard
super nice staff, clean beautiful garden
Very imposing and well appointed. Comfortable and welcoming but the shower and bath needed a deep clean to be appropriate for a hotel of this calibre
