Clarens Retreat

Hosts were very attentive and accommodated us when we arrived later than expected. Enjoyed that it had a fairly new lovely restaurant within walking distance. Accommodation is beautifully decorated and even has a fireplace and electric blankets for colder days/nights.

The cleanliness,the seamless check in and the owner is such a great host. I loved the clean sheets,comfortable bed and pillows. They have a restaurant which we went to but two of our meals were not that great and the following morning when the owner asked me how the meals were I explained and he insisted on paying money for those meals back.

The service from Justin. He moved us to another room when I had a complaint.

The room we had was damp and could be seen on the walls and in the bathroom. The bed linen and towels were musty. We were moved to another room. The shower water did not go down the drain easily.

De ligging is mooi met prachtig uitzicht op de bergen en op loopafstand van het gezellige centrum van Clarence met diverse winkeltjes, cafe's en eetgelegenheden. Breng zeker een bezoek aan de Brewery, heel gezellig en lekker eten. Clarence is daarnaast een hele fijne uitvalsbasis voor de Drakensbergen en Golden Gate National Park wat ook een prachtig park is met mooie (soms uitdagende) wandelingen.

De inrichting van ons huisje (en dan met name de woonkamer/keuken) zijn wat gedateerd qua inrichting. Verder wel schoon. Badkamer en slaapkamers daarentegen waren super met hele fijne bedden! Wij zaten er in de winter (juli) waardoor we de bedden konden verwarmen wat heel fijn was. Ook is er een open haard in het huisje waar elke dag hout voor werd bijgevuld.

Het was steenkoud en een kachel of airco om te verwarmen is er niet. Wel een open haard maar die brengt dat pand niet op temperatuur.

Not on the site where restaurant is had to drive to restaurant and could not walk very dark road no lights. Bed is very bad Old.

Everything about this property is exceptional! We stayed in unit 9, its is well maintained. The furniture is excellent. The view from the veranda is beautiful 🥹

The layout is very nice and simple at the same time very appealing. The staff is welcoming and very kind.

The rooms are well appointed, All rooms have underfloor heating and electric blankets…! Their restaurant is warm and they have a world class chef in Francois. The staff are very friendly and the location is perfect, a short walk to the main centre, but just far enough from it not to be disturbed by the activity..

The place is very clean, serviced daily and very well kept. The gardens are a gem and Gerrit is super friendly and very very efficient. It is ah easy walk up to the square si the location is also ideal.

Room was very hot small little box fan below par on cooling off the room, specially in the afternoon room was unbearable hot to stay inside. I'm suggest to fit at least a Air conditioning unit in the room for the rates being paid daily.

The overall experience at the retreat was excellent. Having an excellent restaurant on site was a bonus

The dirt road leading into the unit, should be better maintained seeing as it is the entrance to the unit. Fresh towels daily would have been appreciated. Bath water was lukewarm on Friday night, cold on Saturday, two of us couldn't even shower. Cleaner took our house keys by accident but then tried to blame me saying I left them in the restaurant, we never even went to the restaurant. Lights in the unit are really dim. Check out should have been explained to us, instead of me phoning to see where keys needed to be left.

Stunning ground floor studio apartment. Enjoyed the patio with garden view. The underfloor heating was a welcome surprise. Bed comfortable and loved the electric blanket. Very neat and clean studio. Will stay here again.

I liked the floor heater, electric blanket, bar fridge, everything was on order, I'm really coming next time, I loved everything about the place, the host was very friendly and allowed us even though we were 2 minutes late

Phenomenal accommodation with excellent hosts!

From the moment I booked i was assisted by a guy who was so welcoming and took effort to rectify an error i made on the app whilst making a booking, unfortunately on arrival he was off duty and we never met. Then Gerrit made our stay so homely, that even after my check out. He still gave me the time to use his premises/restaurant with wifi for a very important online meeting i had. Thank you Clarens Retreat for wonderful stay.
