The Four Horseshoes

Fantastic country pub with huge portions and wonderfully helpful and attentive staff. The food is made with proper care and attention and the atmosphere is proper English pub with character and style. Special shout out to Tracy who always welcomes me and my family with a genuine warmth. Pop in if you’re in the area and enjoy good ale and hearty food.

On a cold and wet February night to find the Four Horseshoes was a real treat. Loved this beautiful building and inside it was cosy and welcoming. Seated next to the indoor ‘well’ we enjoyed a delicious dinner. Best roast dinner I’ve had out in a long time. Very friendly team of staff who never rushed us and were very attentive. Will definitely return when back in this lovely county.

We went out to this place for a roast dinner with family and really enjoyed our experience, great food great staff, one waitress was for me outstanding her interaction made us all feel so welcome, very professional helpful and friendly her name was Tracey, thanks Tracey 👍see you on our return.

Visited end December 2025 with family for a very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Excellent choice of vegetables to accompany delicious roast beef for some and roast pork for others. Excellent service and enchanting location. My grandson was fascinated by the well within the restaurant/pub.

Lovely country pub. Great food warm and friendly. Our waitress Tracy was helpful and kind with good advice on wine. We traveled to meet family whom also enjoyed the rustic ambiance of the pub

Seriously “olde” pub, dates back to 1150. Beer always excellent. Haven’t eaten here but food looks very appetising. Clean & well-appointed.

Having been invited to a family Xmas meal, 12 of us I was expecting good things. Sadly it was not to be. We were told we had to eat early due to being busy, as it turned out we were there a few hours and the venue wasn’t busy. I chose the 3 course Xmas menu. Breaded prawn starter was average pre bought and fried. The disappointment was the main course, the turkey was I think a pre frozen product sliced and no taste, the roast potatoes were almost second hand looked and tasted like it. Some people had sprouts and some not. I enquired about pigs in blankets as you usually get one cocktail version and was told they had to be ordered separately! I’d understand if not a Xmas roast but really a Xmas meal should have a pig in blanket. The stuffing was obviously a frozen product in squares reheated and the whole meal was far from hot. I had ordered sorbet as no a huge ice cream fan but as with a lot of sorbets these days the producer adds some dairy to make it creamy, I don’t want it creamy!. Every other guest also had nothing good to say and one didn’t eat theirs at all. Sad because the venue is lovely and what you expect it to be. The staff were nice shame the food let it down. We won’t be going back.

Great evening with a beautiful lady, staff were excellent and the food was amazing, hopefully back soon for another great evening Steve (France)

We had a wonderful evening at the Four Horseshoes joining a large group of friends for a Trafalgar Day Dinner. Nearly 30 people sat down for dinner which can challenge some pubs kitchens but the staff coped extremly well. All the food was excellent, hot and tasty and my steak was the best I have had for a while. Prices where reasonable with the average per head costs of between £25 -£35 depaending on choices and number of courses. The staff were attentive and kept drinks supplied at the table so what was not to like.

We’ve just had a really lovely meal here. The waiting staff ( especially Tracey) were fabulous! We were extremely well looked after. We shall return to this wonderful friendly pub.

Delightful thatched pub, warm welcome, lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Staff were very attentive and welcoming nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be back

Have stayed a number of times over about 10 years or so - is consistently good. Staff are always friendly and helpful, food is excellent and very good local beer is available. The rooms are small but do what is needed and have always been clean. This is a proper traditional country pub and we need more of them!

Excellent room which had been newly refurbished. Super friendly and helpful staff throughout our stay. Really lovely breakfast which was piping hou and plentiful!!

A lovely dog friendly pub, made very welcome. Beer and food at a very high standard. Special thanks to Tracey for the extra info regarding the pub and its resident Ghost.

welcoming, picturesque and comfortable

Excellent clean room highly recommend

This was a lovely place to have lunch. Popped in whilst on a walk and what a lovely place. Gorgeous old building, wonderful atmosphere, great food, and the staff were so lovely, shout out to Tracy who was so kind and lovely, really welcomed us and made us comfortable. Absolutely 10/10, will definitely be going back.

Tracey is an absolute star, very entertaining, especially re-enacting the two soups sketch, with two bowls of water. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are friendly and very welcoming, would thoroughly recommend to go and pay a visit.

Very friendly and hospitable staff . Value for money

Just back from Sunday lunch at this beautiful old pub. The food was amazing and fantastic value for money. The service was also brilliant, friendly, helpful, and charming. We will definitely be returning to this pub where they seem to have got just about everything right..thank you!

Had a lovely Birthday meal, very warm, welcoming atmosphere with brilliant friendly service. Tracy looked after us very well and made the experience feel personal from start to finish. Very dog friendly, Willow also says thank you Aunty T. Highly recommend for a cosy pub meal, food was excellent, steak was cooked to perfection, outstanding service. Thank you Tracy and the team, we will be back again.

We booked this pub for my Dad’s 90th birthday celebration. Kiera handled all my queries and requests throughout the booking and planning process in a friendly and efficient manner. Kiera allowed us to extend the menu to accommodate my Dad’s favourite meal. As there were 17 of us we were given a private room, this was perfect as it had access to the garden. The service was superb, Kiera and the team were professional, attentive but unobtrusive. We all had a great time and my Dad felt very special. Thank you to Kiera and the rest of the team.

Had a lovely visit to the Thornham Horse Shoes Magna — warm, welcoming atmosphere and excellent service throughout. Tracy looked after us brilliantly; friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel personal from start to finish. Highly recommend for a cosy pub meal with standout service. Thank you, Tracy

The room was clean and comfortable, not at all noisy. We had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious and very reasonably priced. The team at the Four Horseshoes were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was very good too, large portions and a big pot of tea. We had a really relaxing break.

What an excellent country pub. We have a lovely steak meal and used the garden to sit outside and have a drink before retiring to our room. The staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly.Breakfast was well cooked and very enjoyable. Our room was lovely and clean but the toilet flush didn’t work as well as it should. Overall we had lovely meals and a great stay made better by the welcoming friendly and attentive staff

We stopped here overnight in our motorhome on our way to Norfolk. We had a lovely evening meal and breakfast the next morning. The staff were all really friendly and the pub is very dog friendly. Auntie T gave our spaniel his own sausage for breakfast 😁 we had the small breakfast and couldn’t manage to eat it all.

The food was outstanding, tasty, well presented and good proportions. The experience over was lovely. I found the roof height rather low and banged my head more than enough times on the low roof beams. There are signs all over saying watch your head, but when looking down to mis the beams and another even lower one comes up, well I must say, I had a head banging time :)

Food was great, service very good and our head waitress Tracy (who we thought was the landlady) was terrific, she went above and beyond to make our visit so enjoyable and funny

Amazing staff and food. The breakfast is exceptional!

A very enjoyable stay at The Four Horseshoes. Set in the quiet countryside. Our room was clean and had all the facilities we needed. Tom the landlord runs the place like a well oiled machine. Bravo sir! The staff were very hardworking and friendly. Cathy, Tracy and Grace looked after us and we had a particularly good banter relationship with Tracy. The food was excellent and the beer garden was a relaxing haven for us. We highly recommend this pub.

Grreat place for a quite break

Beautiful roast and excellent service by Tracy and the team. We ordered the mega plate and it exceeded our expectations. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. We will definitely come back again soon and this time we might be able to squeeze in a pudding!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here last week. The roasts were huge and delicious! Gorgeous home cooked food, and brilliant service from everyone, especially Tracey. Lovely surroundings and pub with character and atmosphere. And plenty of parking 🙂

Lovely cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Great selection of food available on the menu without it being too busy. We had a delicious main followed by a very tasty sweet 👌 Very friendly and attentive staff that add to the experience. We have recommended this venue to friends visiting the area too.

Booked in here on Easter Sunday having looked at the reviews and wasn’t disappointed. An excellent Sunday lunch in a lovely old country pub. We both had the medium portion which allows you 2 meats. I had Turkey and Beef, we also had an extra of cauliflower cheese. Staff were all very friendly. Would definitely return next time we’re in the area and definitely recommend.

So very disappointing after a promising start. You can't fault the look of the pub or it's location, it's beautiful on a warm, sunny day. We visited for a Sunday roast after seeing the glowing reviews online about how good the food is. We were bitterly disappointed when we both received our roast dinners, to be served a plate of bland, frozen rubbish. Peak laziness. Is it impossible to find a chef that cares about their work and can find decent, fresh & local ingredients? To compensate for the poor food, they offered us a free dessert, which was also clearly bought in and microwaved. The rating of 2/5 is 2 points for how friendly the staff are, they're the only saving grace for this place. Avoid at all costs until someone better takes it over.

A really old pub, full of beams, cozy corners and a well. It also has a large car park. The menu is extensive so something for all. We both had fillet steak for a treat as it's quite unusual to see it on a pub menu. Very good puds too. An excellent pub with a great historic atmosphere. We're going back in a couple of weeks and already looking forward to it

Having recently discovered this wonderful pub restaurant, it has now become a family favourite. With its old-charm atmosphere, extremely friendly staff, and first-class food(the sea bass was amazing!), it really deserves a visit! Oh, and check out the wishing well in the pub!!

Lovely stay, tasty food, friendly & attentive staff. Beautiful clean room. Will definitely stay again. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding!

Adequate parking. Food very good. Wi Fi acceptable. Room comfortable Service excellent

Had a meal with my husband on Friday here on our weekend away, best food I’ve ever tasted, the landlady was so lovely also… great price also.. can’t wait to go back !!! Such an amazing experience so glad we chose this beautiful place still going from the 11th century

Grate quality at good price

We visited mid week for lunch. Despite being very busy we were greeted immediately with a warm welcome. The service was friendly and efficient. Tracy (one of the team who looked after us) had a good knowledge of the menu. The highlight of my meal, was the steak which was beautifully seasoned and perfectly tender. This is a great gem, which I’ve visited many times and it never disappoints. If you do visit look out for the well on the left as you go in the front door.

Excellent food and quiet stay. Friendly staff

Had a family roast on Sunday ,with a little one and 8 adults. On arrival immediate greet and service at the bar ,with excellently presented real ale.Tracie and the staff were attentive without being overbearing.Very well cooked roast with the megaplate option satisfying even the biggest appetites. They kindly stored the birthday cake until the moment of truth! Highly recommended

Lovely warm inviting dog friendly country pub, attentive staff. Food very poor, seemed like it was straight out of the freezer and really over priced, very disappointing . Everything right but the food. Fresh produce simply cooked not too difficult surely.

We couldn't praise this restaurant and it's staff enough. Such a lovely personal service, wonderful food, and camaraderie throughout. It was our first time here, but we will most definitely be re-booking in the new year. Thank you, The Four Horseshoes!

Our book club chose the Four Horseshoes in which to have our Christmas meal. We are all so glad we did..every single aspect of it was excellent. Brilliant, friendly service form all the staff, delicious food, great atmosphere and surroundings………absolutely brilliant!

Everything about it amazing. Dinner, breakfast and stay excellent. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Cosy pub. Brilliant

Lovely old pub. Just our kind of place. Really cosy and felt very Christmassy. Tracy was lovely with our dog Jack. We only went for drinks with friends, but would go back again for food. Seems more of a food pub as all of the tables seemed to be reserved, with the exception of a few.

We booked late, turned up to a warm welcome, we were shown to our rooms, which were clean and comfortable, we loved the age and atmosphere. We also enjoyed dinner there and were well looked after

Great place to stay with a lot of character and history.

Belated review for our 2 night stay in August. Room was Ok but breakfast and evening meal were excellent. Lady who served us breakfast was very nice and helpful.

Four of us went for a family meal the service was brilliant the food amazing the venue is in keeping with the period it was built in (low ceilings) Tracey one of the waitresses was a star 💫 We will return with more family recommend to visit for a lovely meal and attentive staff

Wow,where do i start, great pub/restaurant,staff where amazing, food was awesome and would recommend it to everyone, staff were truly amazing, polite and made me smile, especially Tracy who recommended that i should have four meat roast and i said two meat would be ample who which it was, would definitely stay there again and already planning next trip to there, every member of staff go above and beyond and made our trip there even more memorable, thank you

Staying nearby in a lovely barn conversion, my wife & I decided to try the Four Horseshoes pub that was in the guide of recommended pubs in the area. As it was Friday night, booking is advisable. We arrived at 7:30 & were met by the friendly staff & shown to our table. Service was quick & efficient, plus the food (whitebait & steak & ale pie) was both plentiful & delicious. A lovely lady, Tracey came & spoke to us, asking if we had enjoyed our food, the answer was most definitely yes.. so much so, we booked in for Sunday lunch. Highly recommended.

Quiet with all options to dine and drink

The Four Horseshoes is a lovely pub/hotel that does really good food with staff that bend over backwards to help make your stay one to remember.

The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble, Terri was amazing very knowledgeable and friendly. I liked how you automatically had a reserved table if you were staying over . The food and accommodation were perfect.

Recommended by the people we rented the house from , and thank goodness we were , it was a lovely meal! The very old low ceilings and beams inside were as quaint as the thatched roof outside. This hundreds of years old establishment was a wee gem . When you’ve to book mid week you know it’s a good sign. I’m still thinking of the onion rings they were the best I’ve ever had.! I had a huge gammon steak with egg and pineapple usually it’s one or the other!! Husband had a steak and the portion was so big that both of us couldn’t finish ours! Tremendous!

It was a quaint old pub and very convenient location. The staff were really polite, friendly and helpful.

It was off the main road, so away from noise. The Staff were all very friendly & helpful.

A single overnight stay (with breakfast). Quaint well appointed hotel, with easy access to bedrooms via the beer garden. Polite welcoming staff. Only criticism was our evening meal was on the cold side. Chef didn’t apologise and offered a free dessert.

Beautiful old thatched property in rural Suffolk. It is meticulously maintained by the staff, who are unfailingly friendly and welcoming. Lovely Bar and Restaurant serving hearty breakfasts and an excellent daytime/dinner menu.

Had a lovely pub lunch here - great staff, drinks and food. Our dog Luna was very impressed and writes: Like garden. Sniff lots. Nice lade gib treets. Nice lade gib scritches. Moar treets lady! Nice lade gib more treets. Like nice lade. Like pub.

We stayed here for one night whilst doing the National Road Rally on our motorbikes and arrived aching and soaking wet after 300 miles of rain. Area - the pub is in a really quiet, lovely village. Parking - Plenty of free parking on a gravel (but well compacted) car park opposite the pub. Staff - Management seem to have got their recruitment spot on as every member of staff we came across from check in to serving food were so friendly, helpful and always had a smile! Food - Both dinner and breakfast were great. I'm both gluten and dairy intolerant...they have a menu for both, so I had plenty of choice and they even have a separate gluten free fryer. I didn't get ill, so they must be pretty good at food segregation in the kitchen and the food even came out with little GF / DF flags which was very reassuring. The room - this is where it went downhill a bit. Bathroom was great with a big bath with a shower over. Tea and coffee supplied in the room and even a bottle of water each. There was also a large standing fan in the room. However, the room smelled like there was cigarette smoke in the fabric of the room (certainly not recent smoke, but like it was ingrained). All my clothes have had to go in the wash since I got home. The bed had a lovely topper on it, but the mattress was long past changing as it dipped really badly and gave us both a bad back. If they sorted those two things, I'd have said it was the perfect stay.

This was the second time I stayed here, the staff are very friendly and helpful the chef even came in early one day so I could have breakfast. The food is outstanding and the service is 2nd to none.

staff were exceptional.

Staff were excellent, no issues but rooms very dated and tired. We did, however, enjoy our stay.

Nice location and convenient parking, single room was very small for the price, breakfast very good

If you want a traditional pub stay with proper home cooking then stay here.

Have stated a few times before over a number of years - always good - a proper village pub with excellent service, food and beer - I intend to continue staying here when in the area.

Great pub and had its Old charm which we liked. The staff were all so lovely.

Lovely food, friendly staff.

Excellent staff.

Was a last minute find as the place we had booked had closed down so i looked and found this gem of a place definitely recommended to anyone especially if you have a dog 🐕 as its a dog friendly place. Food was amazing and drinks was good too.. all round excellent 👌 👏 👍

The property was lovely oldie worldie Staff were very friendly Roast dinner let it down was worst I’ve ever had

The staff are wonderful,so attentive,always greeting with a smile.ambience,perfect in pub.perfect stay.

On the plus side, warm friendly atmosphere, nice happy staff in a beautiful pub ,a great pleasure being there for 2 nights. The minus is room 27 above the gents with a noisy air hand dryer going off every few minutes in the evening.

Have stayed several times over about 6 years - always good food and beer and friendly efficient staff - lovely location - a proper traditional English pub - I recognised local customers from previous stays so they keep coming back as well. I would highly recommend.

Lovely Pub. Nice welcome. Very clean. Mixed opinions on food, some really good, some less so. Would stay again.

Everything about our stay was first class. All the staff without exception were very welcoming and friendly and could not do enough for us to make our stay enjoyable. The food was also a very high standard. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful property with very friendly staff. They were great with my kids. The beds are rather old and the sofa bed provided was not comfortable for my kids.

Lovely old pub (low beams!) with really friendly staff.

Enjoyed my stay. Everybody very friendly and helpful.

Would recommend it to anyone it was comfortable clean the food was excellent and staff great

The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean with tea coffee and water. The windows opened wide which was great as it was very hot. A fan was provided in the room. There was lots o choice for breakfast though a muesli or bran flakes would have been nice. Times for evening meals were flexible and the menu was good. Even birthday cake and happy birthday sung !

Stayed here twice before, for a bike event, wanting somewhere relaxing to rest after event with good food and a few well earned beers - has hit the spot on each occasion. Traditional pub in a lovely setting, friendly staff and good beer - what more could you want!

Beautiful pub, in a lovely area. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and went above and beyond to assist. Would definitely stay again.

A wonderful stay was had at this place which offers so much charm. My room had everything I needed and the shower was just right after a long day. Nearby are the Thornham Walks which provided a tranquil and very scenic route which covered over 4km so I got me steps in. With the location being relatively remote, I decided on eating there and was not disappointed in the slightest. The three course meal was of a high quality but very reasonably priced, as was the breakfast the next morning. The staff were all very courteous and helpful and made me fell very welcome

A good peaceful stay with excellent helpful staff...thank you!

Unique, quirky pub, fabulous food. We stayed and our room was superb. Oozed character, all original features including slanted floors. All added to the charm of the place. Staff were friendly and hugely attentive. Would definitely return.

Cosy place, lovely staff, beautiful bar area and a cracking breakfast.

Room comfortable, food good, Staff efficient and friendly. Nothing to dislike

Delighted to stay here again. Landlord Tom and his team make this a very welcoming, friendly and relaxing place to stay and / or have a meal. Even though it’s popular and can be busy for meals I’ve never known it feel crowded or the staff less than cheerful and helpful. If your staying here there’s always a table for you but if not it’s probably best to book ahead. The rooms are comfortable and nicely kept (room 21 is our favourite), serviced each morning. The Four Horseshoes is a delightful old timber framed building in a quiet spot with country walks on the doorstep. There’s easy access to the A140, the nearby town of Eye is charming and Thornham Magna itself is well placed for exploring the Suffolk countryside and towns. All in all just about the best pub-hotel I know! Looking forward to visiting it again.

Excellent hotel. Very welcoming.

Relaxing stay, excellent accommodation restaurant and bar.

Lovely accommodation and bar/restaurant. All staff very welcoming.

Four night stay Thursday to Monday, all good the first night and Friday morning but after that no housekeeping at all. Had to get loo roll by asking at the bar, buy our own soap and shower gel, tea bags etc. Mentioned all this at checkout and was kindly given a free bottle of wine, but would have really preferred the room servicing!

An excellent public house, happy friendly staff and excellent standard of food served at both breakfast and in the restaurant if dining in. Ideal location for visiting both inland and coastal resorts . Will definitely visit again in the near future.
