Great room
Great Mountain View. Great staff. Great location. Everything was wonderful.
We had a great 3 day stay at this nicely updated hotel just north about 2 miles of downtown Chamonix. This hotel has free parking, a great restaurant, beautifully updated rooms and fabulous views of the mountains and glaciers. I highly recommend it. There is a bus line to get you into downtown Chamonix and drive it yourself if you have a car.
Stayed in room X which is on the top floor with a skylight and Mountain View from the balcony. Eight minute drive from downtown Chamonix but also the hotel is in a beautiful area (near a golf course) to walk. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Restaurant in the hotel is convenient with outdoor seating. Loved every minute.
Beautiful rooms and stunning views to the mountain. The restaurant was really good. The only issue is getting a park as it is in a public car park during the peak time of the day
The entrance to hotel.section is through the restaurant below. The waitress check us in. Even though strange we didn't mind since we had food overall experience. The room and bathroom are nicely decorated. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom had shower and standalone tub. Whole ambiance is luxurious. You can have a coffee against the Mont Blanc view on the little balcony. Only issue we had that was not related to the hotel. We came across a man that verbally abusive (in French) that scared us during our walk from Chamonix near Les Pras. I think he had some kind of mental health problem.
The day we arrived, front office and bar/restaurant staff were there. People were sitting on the deck having drinks, there was music playing, and it was a beautiful atmosphere. After that day, we did not see any staff again. The restaurant, bar, and front desk were completely abandoned for the next 3 days. We were not informed of the access code when the hotel was locked - we stood outside in the rain for several hours, calling the hotel, calling the emergency number - nobody ever answered. While the property was beautiful, our room was perfect, and the location was unbeatable, the lack of staff and customer service completely ruined it. The hotel advertises English speaking staff - WRONG. They advertise front desk is open 8am - 10pm - WRONG. They advertise their restaurant and bar are open 8am - 10pm - WRONG. We finally happened to run into the owner of the hotel - he was not concerned about our experience. He simply said it's the slow season.
Hotel was very accommodating to us. Rooms and common areas are all uniquely decorated. Located on north end of Chamonix by the Flegere-Les Peres gondola, not in town itself. Across from golf course. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
In summary a really nice stay! I can recommend and may come back if we are going again to the region.
I had stayed at this property before and it was lovely. Well kept, clean, fantastic restaurant with a different specialty menu for every night. This time it was worn down, simple amenities such as towels were missing, restaurant quite poor and service overall although staff trying very hard, not sufficient.
Our experience at Hotel Castel was deeply unsatisfactory. Staff were unhelpful, including a manager who refused to provide a hairdryer, leaving my partner with wet hair before a date. Another staff member eventually borrowed one from another guest—an unacceptable situation. Communication was lacking. We weren’t informed the hotel would lock at night and require a code, causing late-night confusion. The room’s housekeeping was inconsistent; towels weren’t replaced, glasses were left dirty, and water leaked onto the balcony floor daily, creating a hazard. The bathroom privacy was shocking. A window allowed anyone on the opposite balcony to see in, with no curtain or frosted glass to ensure privacy—an unacceptable invasion of privacy for a 4-star hotel. Breakfast was also a major letdown. We weren’t told it was chargeable, and on three out of six days, it wasn’t even available. When it was, options were extremely limited, with scarce gluten-free choices and inadequate amenities like a single coffee cup for all guests. Late check-out was inflexible, and the only storage offered for belongings was an unsecured boot room. Speaking with other guests confirmed a decline in the hotel’s standards compared to previous years. Overall, this was the worst experience we’ve had at a 4-star hotel. We hope management takes steps to address these significant issues.
Every thing was great except no fridge/ mini bar
Lovely stay at this wonderful chalet hotel, great location, fancy room, excellent breakfast,
Lovely hotel and wonderful and friendly accommodating staff. Comfortable and pretty spacious rooms
Clean and clever. Room 11 on the top floor was spacious. Great balcony. Lush bath.
Stopped here overnight and was quite surprised by how nice the accommodations are. Beautiful room with views . Walkable to the gondola . Literally right across the street. Restaurant with very good food on site. Staff was amazing . Would definitely stay here again ! A real gem .
Overall our stay was wonderful! It’s a two minute walk to the Le Paz gondola, has bus stops right out front, and you can view the mountains from your room. The staff were also very nice. I would skip on the breakfast as it’s pretty light and does not include much hot food for 18 euro a day per person. The only reason for four stars is that the rooms could have been cleaner and in better condition. A little dirty under seat cushions and on floor and it seems as though the balcony windows were not sealed properly as condensation water trails dripped in every morning. Also some of the plug covers would come off and the shower door did not prevent all the water from slipping outside. That’s said overall it’s a great hotel in a great location with nice staff.
Overall was all good. We had an inconvenient request to switch our room after one day because there was a longer stay that the hotel wanted to accommodated into our room. The hotel insisted but I refused to switch the room since I paid for that room category and I was checking out the day after. Also the day after , while we were loading the car , we have been chained from the hotel person to the parking area because they thought we were leaving without paying the dog fees and the breakfast. Consider that our wallet and Passport and one more luggage was still in the room. There was no one at the reception when we were loading the car. We did not feel welcome at all I. This hotel! That s why our overall review is low!
Only one night. Very nice room, we had top floor with nice view and also a window in the ceiling. The whole hotel have a theme and it’s really nice. Very comfortable bed and nice double bathroom. I can imagine that if we were skiing it would be perfect as it is situated just at one of the lift stations. We visited of season and had no problem with the parking but how about peak season I have no ideas. Only negative is the you can hear the traffic a little bit and mainly through the ceiling window, nothing that disturbed us but for the bad sleeper it could be an issue.
Lovely hotel and staff. It was quiet and a nice walk into town took about 30 minutes along the river Would definitely stay again
Parfait
Well located just outside of Chamonix….. East walk to town, right next to lift to the excellent hiking options. Great view of Mount Blanc from balcony.
After finishing TMB, it was a welcome place to have a wonderful evening. The staff was helpful and kind.
The view and service was wonderful. Will definitely return and recommend it.
Great location, large and well-maintained rooms, excellent staff and restaurant.
The place is beautiful and conveniently close to the center. The staff was wonderful. The restaurant was cozy and nice.
Initially, we didn't quite realize the distance from downtown Chamonix to the hotel, but we ended up walking down a quiet, beautiful trail bordering a small river. Once we arrived, we made our way up to our room... And the pictures did not do it justice. The room was spacious, meticulously decorated, and so gorgeous. We had skylights in the bathroom and above the bed with views of the mountains, and ended up not wanting to leave the room at all! The entire hotel was so nice to be in and around, and will be a place we absolutely would love to revisit!
I loved this hotel. The room was super cool, comfortable, and felt special. It also had an amazing view of Mont Blanc and the surrounding valley. The service at the front desk was friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. I'd say the room was so good, I wanted to stay another day!
Fantastic stay. Will be back.
Beautifully decorated rooms above a really good restaurant. The service in the restaurant was superb (especially from the short haired waitress and Phlippe who made me feel very welcome over christmas and looked after me really well). Sadly the 'concierge' service was pretty inadequate. I asked a few questions and was greeted with unsatisfactory responses unless I really pushed for more details (when i asked about booking an airport transfer I was given number to ring myself rather than the just offering to book for me. I expected a little more... it felt a bit like a restaurant with some rooms above it rather than a hotel. Having said all that the room was beautiful with stunning views from a large balcony and very convenient for the Flegere cable car to the ski runs.
Totally amazing...only.one small compliant...the dinner wasnt enough....it was very tasty but the portions where ridiculous..far far to small. It came to €42 an i was still.very hungry after .. so cmon hotel.. put out a decent feed..!
Fantastic location and friendly and accommodating staff. Guest room was beautifully furnished with amazing view from the balcony
Rooms were clean and well decorated with large balcony with the mountain view in every room. Bathrooms were spacious, clean and beautiful. Restaurant was beautifully decorated with a beautiful mountain view and excellent food. Rooms did not have AC but had fan. In the night we had to leave the windows open and noise of cars passing by was the only disappointing point about this excellent hotel. Although I will choose the same hotel for my next trip.
Solid mid-level hotel. The views of Mont Blanc are unbeatable from the hotel - that is the best feature. Pros: clean, modern, spacious rooms, nice bathrooms Cons: no air conditioning so it was somewhat uncomfortable sleeping at night, service was OK not terrible but not great but in-line with the price point.
We fell in love with Chamonix. Beautiful room and large 2 sink bathroom. Beautiful setting with a very nice restaurant.
very nice rooms and staff. room is spacious, clean and interesting. good location and nice 20 minute walk to town.
It's quiet, beautiful, by the bus stop, great view of the Aiguille du Midi & Mont Blanc. Across the hotel is a small church with beautiful garden wtih flowers, behind the church is a beautiful backdrop of Aiguille du Midi. Postcard perfect view.
Top notch service, excellent restaurant and great venue
Wonderful setting, ecstatic about views and free upgrade with huge terrace. Walking encountered friendly locals. Ride up Mt. Blanc worth fare & then again.
Beautiful and clean hotel that is by the Flegere ski lift and the Les Praz train stop. It’s pretty good value and we were pleased with the renovated bathrooms. However, you must rent a car if you stay here because otherwise you are competely dependent on the bus schedule. The staff is pretty aloof and wouldn’t answer my questions about where to ski / which lifts were open / how to get around the valley. This made our moving around a lot more difficult as a result. There not a soul in sight when we checked out at around 7am.
Lovely atmosphere and excellent food. The room was clean and comfortable. We liked the very warm fur blanket.
We booked a long weekend skiing in Jan 2019 as it was close to the Flegere Lift. The location is excellent for skiing and also for the bus stops to and from Chamonix are right outside the hotel which leave and return every half an hour. The room we had on the top floors was beautifully decorated and well appointed with quality furniture and fittings. The bathroom had a great shower and also separate bath with twin sinks. The Hotel staff were very attentive and indulged my poor French even though they could speak good English which was nice. The feeling and atmosphere is of a boutique even though it's primarily a restaurant and bar, for lunch and supper/dinner however we ate there once for supper and it was very good too and reasonable value for the resort. Even though you are on a road you hardly ever hear the noise. We loved every minute of our stay and would certainly return for longer. The only slight negative (and i'm being very picky here), is that the breakfast was very basic and had no cooked food option apart from a boiled egg and at €18pp didn't feel the best value, however it was all laid out and presented very well in the traditional sense. If this was serviced with staff I would be happy to pay €25pp. In Summary, it was excellent value in a great location, staffed professionally yet laid back, with cool furnishings throughout, good facilities, wonderful rooms and I will definitely be going back to visit and stay - book it..! Highly recommended!!!
I loved this hotel and our room was just perfect. We had a large bathroom with a gorgeous claw foot tub, and our room had a small balcony where we enjoyed a drink in the cool November air. We also had dinner at the hotel, which was very good. Just lovely.
Absolutely marvelous! Great location. The decor and details of the room were amazing. Excellent facilities. Great restaurant on premises. Walking distant to the cable car of La Flegere. This hotel is one of this rare places were after you check-out, you keep in your memory how perfect was your stay....and the desire to come back soon.
Upscale Hotel, photos of room are accurate and exceed expectations, decorated like a castle, lots of attention to detail and very luxurious, shower was amazing. very comfortable sleep. We experienced a bit of discomfort with a certain staff member, maybe cause we didn't fit the upclass profile look?!! but we really enjoyed our room stay here, would go back.
We visited in the off season where many restaurants were closed, so having a good place to eat at the hotel was convenient and relaxing. Excellent location, relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff.
Very good location in Le Praz. Excellent restaurant, great patio area, staff is very helpful and speaks enough English to communicate well. Rather unique decorating! I would give it a 5, but we are older travelers and would like an elevator, but staff carried our luggage. Would stay here again.
Superb hotel one of the best we jave ever stayed in superb staff and went out of their way to help so close to the city with bus rides every 30 mins oitstanding made our day
Wonderful location, easy access to the town. Great shopping.
Wonderful two day stay... outstanding room.. great food... English speaking and friendly staff 😊👍
Very spacious well appointed room. Friendly staff and near public transportation to Chamonix central
The hotel is very nice and clean. It is very small close to the road so there is some road noise and if it is hot there isn’t air conditioning.
Was the worse..... i text them i will be late one day before bc i didnt have phone to call, after when i got there at midnight nobody was there the emergecy call nobkdy answer was ridiculous, far way from the center, i spend 2 hourrs try fund some place, worse 2 hours in my tripx thsnks expedia for helping me go thru this you guys from expedia rock it
Very noisy room, Just above a busy road. Restaurant was good.
Great place and food. Staff very helpful
This little hotel was amazing. One of my all-time favorites!!!
Beautiful and quiet room. Enjoyed the short visit very much.
This is a charming Challet outside town with everything you would want views, golf course, shuttle stop, spacious and beautiful rooms, and even a very good restaurant
Great hotel with very friendly stuff and the most beautiful view in town. Love it! Highly recommend it!
This is the beat place I have been ever, all staff is just amazing and no words can describe how happy we was to stay in the hotel, room is perfect, food is great and staff is beautiful.
My boyfriend and I loved staying here. It is right in front of the bus stop and within a short walk of the ski lift for Chamonix Mont Blanc. The design of the hotel was beautiful and the staff was lovely. They were so incredibly helpful and went above and beyond what we would have expected.
Lovely hotel, good location nice food clean How much more do I have to say
Very good spot and location. Close to erything. Friendly staff
Booked all 11 rooms for wedding guests. Due to two changes in staff over the 8 months we had it booked this made communication very difficult however this was made up for by the hospitality we received when we arrived
Located about a mile from the center village. We had a beautiful room. Large and very comfortable. We wish we ate at the restaurant because it smelled so wonderful. I wish that we had more time. We only had one night to stay and the next time that we go to Chamonix, we will defiantly eat at the restaurant. The staff was very helpful and spoke English.
Very stylesh hotel I love all the details Also its located in very nice quite area 10 minutes from Chamonix
Charming and helpful. Beautiful although slightly cramped room. Magnificent views. Croissants and coffee outstanding.
Fab hotel, great rooms.
Very beautiful hotel, n very comfortable room. With non stop snow for 2 days, this place was like s heaven.... warm, quite & just a little away from the hustling centre of Chamonix. Will be back soon
A great little hotel, newly refurbished. Extremely well run and lovely management. We used it as a base for a short skiing break in February. Delicious breakfast and evening meal. Very convenient for Flegere ski lift and for the grabbing the ski bus to other lifts, with the bus stop right outside.
We loved that the Chalet had recently been renovated and had unique decor, new bed was so comfortable. The restaurant downstairs was excellent for lunch and dinner. The pasta was homemade and delicious. We tried everything from homemade pizza to scallop risotto with black truffle to lamb chops. Would definitely stay here again!
