Check in was un inspiring. No hello, how are you, have you come far? Just given a breakfast pre order form and shown to the door of my room. The room was very small, in fact you had to mind your head when getting in and out of bed because of the sloping ceiling. Same in the toilet when using the toilet and the bath. There was a handheld shower which when it was turned on, the pressure was so much that water sprayed everywhere, they need a shower screen or curtain. The toilet seat was broken and was a challenge to sit on! Broken sleep as there was something like a bird or mouse scratching away for most of the night in the ceiling. Breakfast was mediocre. Greeted by a morose and uncheerful member of staff. The hash browns could have been used for doorstops and the veggie sausage was coated in leather! The poached egg must've been laid by the smallest chicken in the world. I had to relieve someone else's table for salt, pepper and sugar as they had forgotten to put any on mine. Best thing about it was the cafetier coffee.
Food and staff were excellent
Room door difficult to open and close. No hot water after late afternoon, so cold shower and Bath
Very friendly staff. Nice breakfast.
Very low ceiling (in my room and bathroom)
We had such a lovely stay The Anvil, and were made to feel really welcome even before we arrived! ... We had a 5hour drive to get there, and were hungry and tired on arrival. Knowing we didn't have long before the kitchen closed we ordered some food and the staff were so patient and were very happy to show us to our room once we'd had something to eat. Our dinner was gorgeous (fish and chips with mushy peas, tartare sauce and curry sauce!) and they had a great selection of non/low-alcoholic beers and ciders which we appreciated. The room was perfect for us, a good size, plenty of space and very clean and really comfy. The bathroom was great and had everything we needed. As The Anvil is such as old building, the walls were thick and it was really quiet - we loved our stay. Breakfast was fantastic! We ordered off a menu the evening before, and it all arrived really promptly when we sat down in the morning. We stayed for two nights and honestly, we loved it.
The only teeny tiny thing, is that our bathroom was not ultra luxury/glam - but honestly - this wasn't even a downside really as I felt we had great value for money, felt so welcome and loved all the character of the old building.
Bathroom needed cleaning a bit more thoroughly, hair in the bath
Great Sunday Roast and really enjoyed the Full Dorset Breakfast
Atmosphere was great , staff were friendly & helpful, food was tasty and the building is just gorgeous.
Nothing
Nice clean room, lovely staff and good food
Frequent the Anvil often. Great food, lovely staff and cool setting.
No complaints
breakfast could have been better
Breakfast wasn't very nice
Returning to The Anvil after two o years and I found the same lovely vintage location, this is just a nice place to return
Indeed, some of the rooms are quite small, but this place has a unique character, I like it!
Large comfortable bedroom. Plentiful seating in bar/restaurant both inside and outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Food, breakfast and evening meals good.
Nothing
Lots of character, friendly staff, good parking
Shower door was broken and the turn on/off switch was incredibly stiff.
Excellent breakfast and clean comfortable Cosy bedroom. Staff all really cheery and helpful.
Carpet in corridor to bedrooms
Not a great experience, would not stay again
After eating at the establishment, i had food poisoning, which greatly impacted my enjoyment of the planned activity
The food and drink were excellent at my evening meal. The room was comfortable and cool in an oherwise very warm climate. parking was easy and the Inn was well placed for Blandford Forum where I was visiting. Thank you.
Nothing!
Cosy and friendly. Beautiful building in a lovely setting.
Nothing.
Kjempefin pub på landsbygda. Veldig god mat
Vriendelijkheid personeel
Hele kleine en korte bedden
Great location. Quaint old thatched pub/Inn. Nice outside dining and pub facility. Good choice of beers.
Not very comfortable overall. Difficult stairway access to uncomfortable cramped tiny rooms. Has TV but no A/C.
Friendly helpful staff and the experience of staying in such an old building
Downstairs worked ok
Not good for disabled like me
Staff very helpful and friendly. Food great. Very clean.
It is very quirky and so a lot of level changes, stairs and nooks and crannies. Great for us but not for our friend who has mobility issues. Not a criticism but just a statement
It is a beautiful very old building. If you like this sort of thing this hotel is for you. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately as it was a very last minute booking they had to give us the room with the running generator all night. Also there was a kind of kitchen smell all night. Was deprived of sleep. --
Easy to find and park. Check in was really quick and staff were lovely. Very nice room. Very good food and drink.
Absolutely nothing
Good location. Lovely staff
The room was way too hot and there is some kind of heat extractor fan outside the window so, on top of the heatwave, extra hot air was being pushed into the room. I asked if they had another room or maybe another fan but nothing was done. Only stayed one night of booking - couldn’t take the heat.
Ambience, Food, Service and Bed we're spot on!
A heatwave without airconditioning is quite the challenge.
2nd time staying at the Anvil, absolutely beautiful, amazing service, staff super friendly and helpful. Location amazing.
Nothing we didn't like.
Breakfast was very nice, delivered on warm plates.
The bathroom floor was still wet and slightly sticky. I used the shower towel mat to dry the floor.
Location was good in relation to our requirements
Rather dated rooms were accessed by a very difficult staircase Limited food choice
Great staff. Really helpful.
I know it is an old building but the corridor floor makes a lot of noise when other guest walk along it
Staff very helpful, food a good standard and plenty of it
On seeing the interiors of the bar which were pleasing, I expected the same from the rooms. Ours was tired and a bit scruffy
Breakfast was well presented and well cooked
Personally I was happy with everything. Service was good and staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Staff helpful and welcoming.
Problems with steep stairs with my disabled husband
Easy to find, great parking. Warm and helpful staff.
The 60th party held beneath our window.
Lovely character property

We have had a brilliant stay at The Anvil
Nothing we loved it and will return x
Didn't stay long enough to form an opinion didn't see the room, place looked lovely.
We were not made to feel welcome but more of an inconvenience. We decided to go home rather than stay here.
Everything, comfy well equipped room, very clean. Value for money on food purchased. Very friendly staff.
Sjarmerende overnattingssted over pub, hyggelig betjening og god frokost
Couldnt get wi fi to connect and pillows to hard
A great location for golf the next day. The food was excellent and great service by two young ladies.
I slept in a single room. It was very small/cosy with a small bathroom. All very clean
The double bed was comfortable had a good night's sleep.
Curtain pole was hanging off the wall, the wall plugs had come out in our room and also in our sons room. We ate in the restaurant sons burger n fries was good. We had the roast dinner x2 at £23 each, we felt it was not worth the price. Items served was not hot the meats were cold, the gravy was and the apple sauce had a perfumed taste to it, the stuffing we both left as it tasted of nothing. Hubby had a bread and butter pudding and said it was very dry even though he had custard with it. Just disappointed with our meals to say we paid £46.
Beautiful thatched pub with clean, comfortable rooms. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and good food. Excellent, would recommend to anyone.
If possible that breakfast could be a little earlier… we struggled with our timings (( school run)
Staff were lovely, very accommodating with requests for early/late check in
Welcoming, cosy , clean , good food and staff who went over and above to be helpful.

Characterful inn, friendly staff, great breakfast.
All good
Village pub full of character. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. Dinner was excellent. Room comfortable for overnight stay.
Walls between rooms very thin so noise from neighbouring rooms heard.
Easy to park and get to our room. Lovely traditional building.
Liked it all.
We did not stay at The Anvil, we had to cancel our booking but this does not seem to be registered anywhere with Booking.com despite receiving confirmation from you. Also The Anvil states it's 'accessible' meaning it caters for disabled people, like myself, which is why we chose it however, all the rooms are on the first floor with no lift access so NOT accessible. This needs to be changed as it's misleading information.
Great character
The team at the Anvil are amazing, they made you feel welcome, the rooms were really nice, the food.............was absolutely amazing, breakfast was top notch. If we are down in Blandford again, we will use them without a doubt. Thank you for a great stay.
Very friendly staff. A very nice room, well heated, with a very big bath. Very quiet. Standard pub food.
Small parking spaces, difficult to negotiate.
Everything! Lovely friendly staff, great food. Spotlessly clean and very warm and comfortable
Nothing
Staff were very friendly, restaurant food good although drinks were a little pricey
Lovely comfortable place, food very good & friendly staff
Couldn't fault it
Efficient friendly staff. Bedroom was warm. Comfortable bed.
Very small double beds. The bathroom areas weren’t very clean. There was paint peeling off the ceiling and holes in the walls in my bedroom. No bath mat and a bath with only a hand held shower.
Excellent and beautifully presented and cooked. Staff very welcoming and helpful

Lovely friendly helpful staff. Nice food. Clean, cosy room. Good value too - both food and accommodation.

Good breakfast Comfy room Historical building

Nothing
Breakfast great. Staff brilliant.
Not the fault of the pub . Noise because of roadworks and diversion was poorly set out .
Purchase food and drinks
The room was a bit on the small side as was the bed. The shower cubicle was a bit restricted for entering and exiting the cubicle.
Staff were very nice
Friendliness of staff , value for money, good location for an overnight stay during a drive from A to B
I did find 3 long black hairs in the sink of the otherwise spotless bathroom. I am sure this was just by accident and therefore did not complain to the staff
A very beautiful place with friendly staff and amazing food. For starters we had the halloumi fries with dressing and the garlic bread with cheese — both were delicious. Our mains were the roast beef Sunday dinner and the Anvil burger with fries, and for dessert we enjoyed a sundae and a sponge cake. Everything we ate was excellent. The room was nice and comfortable, though the mattress was a bit too soft for me personally as someone who prefers a firm bed. That’s just a preference thing, so others may love it. One suggestion I would make is to provide bottled water in the rooms. I poured a glass from the bathroom tap and it wasn’t clear, with some floating bits in it. I completely understand this may be due to the old Victorian pipework, which is why I wanted to mention it as a helpful improvement. Other than that, it was a lovely place to stay for the night — especially after a five‑and‑a‑half‑hour drive to drop my daughter off at Royal Signals.
