It was really clean and I was very surprised at the number of little extras in our room it was so unusual but such a great idea

Paul and his team were great they looked after us very well. We had everything g we needed. The location was very central and parking was a bonus.
It isn’t luxurious but see above.
Very welcoming and helpful staff. Loved the fresh milk for tea and coffee. Lovely menu for meals and breakfast.
No problems
What a lovely place Family run and just lovely Agnes deserves a special mention , she was great and breakfast was outstanding both days . The levels of care in the bedrooms and cleanliness of the place overall was great.
Bed was a little small .. little thing but we had the big room at the top could easily take a bigger bed. Was comfy though We had 4 rooms all the family happy .
Friendly staff. Nice food and cosy feel.
Very nice and clean very good food nice and clean
Not
The property is in an excellent location, very clean and the staff are friendly, very professional and the owners are very bubbly and helpful. Great stay, highly recommend this property and looking forward to returning soon.
Such a lovely family. There is no elevators, and we were on the second floor. The family helped carry our luggage up, but be cautious about the no-elevator part. Rooms were bigger than average and clean.
Narrow coridors and climbing stairs. But otherwise, we had a pleasent stay.
Extremely friendly and homely. Would definitely return.
Nothing. It was great.
A warm welcome, dinner in a cosy corner, comfortable bed, town centre. What else do you need.
The room was exceptionally well equipped. It even had a fridge with fresh milk for drinks. It was a very peaceful and comfortable room with a sofa and easy chairs.
Nothing.
The food was superb! Roasting hot and a really great selection of fresh veg. The kamb shank melted in my mouth.
Maybe a less cluttered dining room would provide a greater confidence in the level of cleanliness?
Good welcome and very good on site park. Good location for our journey.
The convenience, staff and cleanliness
Good breakfast, friendly staff.
Room a bit noisy as it was close to the main road, and apparently if we had booked directly with the Hotel, it would have been much cheaper.
We loved our stay. Great location. Very friendly owners who made us very welcome. Lovely comfortable room. Really pleased there were fans in the room as it was very warm. Easy access into the town.
Nothing to report. All great.
Staff amazingly friendly, facilities clean and well kept, room was exactly what we needed!
Easy parking onsite with stunning hanging baskets, The room was nice, quiet and very clean. The staff we met were all very polite and helpful. The menu looked very enticing but was too expensive for us so we ate elsewhere.
We visited during the 5th heatwave of the summer and there was no air conditioning which made sleeping difficult. However we were supplied with 2 fans and, to be fair, air conditioning would be very difficult to fit in a building of this age.
Really nice small room with an excellent shower. Exceeded my expectation before we arrived. Pub is in a great location for exploring Newark. Didn't eat or drink there but what we could see looked good. Staff very informative.
Room was very hot but then it was an exceptionally hot day
Room very comfortable & high standard. Not the copy paste chain fixture & fittings for large chains. Very pleasant
Central location
Really nice and clean beds super comfortable
Thought food was a little expensive but what we did have was nice
The cleanliness of the room and the facilities. The young lady who showed us up to our room was very nice too.
That you had to pay an extra fee for parking, we felt this should have been included in the price when booking. It is included if you book directly with the inn but not through booking.com.
Didn't like the fact our room was on the top floor and the steep stairs. Other than that all good and would stay again but ask for a different room
great room and location, we had dinner and breakfast too. both were good quality food properly cooked with good portion sizes
bend in stairs up to the rooms
Fabulous pies!
Good location and very clean
Staff wasnt too friendly,, when we booked breakfast it wasnt explained that we needed to pre order what we wanted the night before so they were a bit snotty with us.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the cooked breakfast was excellent with good portions! The rooms were quiet and towels changed each day. The shower was powerful and good.
The weather had cooled down after a heatwave, but the small double room was still hot despite having two fans. The glasses in the room looked "grubby" and the overall feel was that the room was not as clean as it could have been. The skirting board in the bathroom was particularly dirty. We had two single fruit gin and tonics, and some peanuts in a bowl each and the price we thought was a bit much at £25.50
car park at rear, food all home cooked and top quality
Steps up to room old building nothing hard to cope with just a walk -room great and quite
Family run and have tried to think of everything for your comfort. The food was excellent. We particularly enjoyed being served by Carol who was delightful.
We should have checked the size of the beds. My partner is 6’4” and the double bed was far too small.
Lovely place to stay with great home made food Very clean property Nothing any trouble for staff who work really hard
Nothing
Great location, friendly service, big room spotless, lots of towels.
Narrow steep stairs to 2nd floor bed rooms
Nice appt in centre of Newark, good beds, and friendly welcoming
Stayed in the self contained cottage it was clean and ideal for our stay
Bed was too small, linen spotless, was adequate for a one night stay
Bed was too small, room too hot, very very noisy main road. Looks nothing like images
Homely and comfortable and the food was great
The food at this hotel is fabulous, all locally sourced and non-processed and homemade. I would eat here even if I was not staying.
This is an old coach house located on a junction of a busy road so traffic noise is constant.
Comfortable bed , good linen . Didn’t eat at the property but menu looked good.
Didn’t know that we would have to pay extra for parking.
Shower was really powerful, bed comfortable, always a nice touch having biscuits in the room - especially Hobnobs!
Excellent location great friendly staff comfortable room what more can you ask for? Brilliant
Nothing to dislike
Staff went out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay during exceptionally uncomfortable weather. Beautiful bar area matched by a stunning breakfast. Plenty of room extras that you would have to ask/pay for elsewhere: fridge, iron, sewing kit, shoe horn to name just a few.
Room needed a little TLC but nothing that detracted from my stay or would put me off returning.
Clean tidy, good location, friendly and polite staff
NA
The staff here go above and beyond, very welcoming. Very detailed about their food and gave you a little tour on where things were in your room.
Nothing. It was perfect.
Easy to find Very centrally located Parking Very comfy bed Genuinely warm and friendly welcome
There was nothing to dislike
The wonderful home cooked food and the friendly and exceedingly helpful staff. This is a family business and was so much better than the average chain town hotel. In fact some travellers who were staying opposite in the Travel Lodge came over for breakfast.
Not much. The hotel is located right on busy main road junction but we were located in the back, so not not really notice that much traffic noise. It was rather hot upstairs in the heatwave but two fans in our room helped.
The staff
Nothing
The food was very good
Aircon would make it perfect
The atmosphere was welcoming. The check in was smooth and friendly and nothing seemed to be any trouble. The room was well appointed and spacious. There were two fans in the room, set up to try and counteract the heatwave! The beer garden was surrounded by wonderfully colourful hanging baskets. The breakfast was made from a comprehensive choice of food.
Nothing. However, if really pushed, the absence of air con in the room was the only point for improvement. But even this is a harsh point to make as the country was basking in 35 degrees C, and ordinarily, AC would not be necessary! This DID NOT detract from the experience.
Everything was excellent. Especially staff and cleanliness.

Very friendly and welcoming. Excellent menu - we had a meal in the evening.
General ambience of the place.
Staff were accomodating, talkative and very helpful. Place was SPOTLESS. Downstairs was cool and a bit quaint but very relaxing after a long drive from Glasgow. Don't normally plan on staying in Newark due to my route planning more than anything else but at least i know now that if i do stay there, I'll most certainly stay here again.
Parking behind the pub was great but I'd probably suggest just including this in the price of the stay.
Friendly staff
Bed was way too small we both fell out of the bed on the same night. Size does matter
Bteakfast was exceptionally good. The staff were very good.
The room was very hot due to exceptional temperatures. Two fans were provided which helped some what,I don't know what else could have been done as the property is very old.
Very cosy and clean
Nothing
It was a great location on way to Scotland. We got there a little late because of traffic. But staff friendly and welcoming and a space in the car park for us. The weather was hot and they had fans on in the room waiting for us.
Nice size room and great water pressure in the shower.
All meals I esperienced were splendid
Easy to find, easy parking and a family flat to stay in.
Lovely staff, clean room and comfy bed.

Central location. Friendly staff and family run. Bedroom very quiet and extremely clean. The evening meal menu was extensive and the food delicious home cooking.
Everything was great
Plenty of space to park which was fab and stress free. Location was excellent, short walk to the square / bars/ restaurants, the canal and Newark Castle. Already planning on staying again at some point! Staff were lovely, we were greeted by a lady who checked us in quickly and we got shown to our room within minutes.
We have nothing bad to say! :)
Great venue, ideally located, nice friendly staff, good sized rooms.
Nothing.
Warm and cosy interior. Welcoming & helpful staff but # 1 on the list for me was Paul’s amazing & delicious skills in the kitchen!!
Nothing
Very clean. Rooms were well stocked with everything required. Very friendly hosts.
Paying for parking. Although it was a nominal charge this should be included within the price. If we had booked direct it would but we only found this hotel through booking.com so in effect it cost us more to book with you.
Lovely welcome, friendly atmosphere, comfortable room. Evening meal was fantastic
Liked everything
Fantastic family owned b&b. Would highly recommend the homemade pies, but everything was lovely.
The cottage is well put together. The pies were delicious.
Family run. Simple lodging in Newark. Friendly staff and good food using local produce. Powerful shower!
The evening meals were expensive. The room was very hot and stuffy even with the window open and a fan.
Quiet and comfortable
everything
should have booked a second night
Very clean comfortable room, very friendly staff, great breakfast.
everything was provided in our room, eg hair dryer, iron board & iron, 2 cooling fans ( needed as we were in the attic room), 2 x beer & wine glasses, fridge etc
nothing
The Food was Superb. Not just basic Pub Food Was just delicious
Very clean and very accessible. The staff were all so friendly
Nothing not to like. I love it and will definitely stay again there.
Very clean and spacious.
Nothing
Lovely Landlady even thought to out us 2 big fans in our room for the heat great brekkie great bar even let us stay couple hours after checkout as i wasmt feeling very wel
Good bedroom. Good food but expensive
Position of hotel on a bus road. Lack of clarity about car parking fees. This was not easily seen on website.
Very central. Car parking. Friendly staff.
A minor niggle;was every time we passed the bed we banged our knees on the end of the wooden bed.
The staff were absolutely lovely. The bathroom was spotless, as was everything else as far as I could see. The building has a lot of charm and character. I had dinner in the evening and the food was really tasty. Everything you could need in the room was provided, iron and board, hairdryer, tea / coffee / biscuits, loads of pillows, lots of plug sockets, a nice desk and chair. The bathroom was a good size and nice to have both a bath and shower to choose from.
Nothing major, some of the paintwork in the bathroom looked half done or finished in a rush. I can see some work has gone into freshening things up in some areas, and more of that would make a nice difference, but it's not a big thing. The bed was not comfortable though, I did wake up pretty frequently throughout the night. Other than that it was good value for money and a warm, welcoming place.
The room was perfect for my needs. I was travelling for a funeral so only stayed one night. The room wasn't quite ready when I arrived, but the staff was helpful with no issues.
My sons met me in the car park in morning, and was told they couldn't park. They was not staying they was just waiting for me to check out. I think the check out is a little early.
Excellent fresh food Friendly helpful staff Very well appointed rooms Generous parking area
Comfortable, pleasant room and bathroom (although we should have checked the bed size as it was a smaller double not a king). Can pay extra for excellent breakfast and convenient parking. Nice bar if you feel like a drink. Central location for Newark.
Nothing
Very central
Very dated
Charm Character Comfort Awesome pies Tasty ample breakfast Friendly welcome Good onsite parking Spacious rooms Characterful but comfortable lounge
I don't know how valid my comments on the value for money as I live in London and have a skewed idea of how much things cost but I thought it was fantastic for the price. Exceptionally comfy bed, i wish i could have stayed there all day - excellent shower, homely room. They advised if you book direct you can get early check in automatically. We were still given early check-in which was really kind of Paul as we had to get ready for a wedding. It really made our stay easier.
The stairs were fine for me but maybe a little steep for some people so if you struggle with mobility or have really heavy cases ask for a ground floor room - I think they have them. 10am check out is a bit early but considering they let many customers check in at 12 it's very reasonable.
Great location
Very comfortable
Location was good, just off tge town centre. The family use the bar/restaurant area for sitting in sometimes, which makes it feel like you're in someone's home rather than a hotel. Homely things like school photos adorn the walls. Breakfast was big and very filling. The room (with slopy floor) was quite large and the bed was comfortable.
Some guests may not like the blurred line between family accommodation and public areas, but I did.
Das Zimmer ist sehr gut ausgestattet und hat alles, was man braucht. Man sieht, das die Ausstattung liebevoll geplant ist. Das Frühstück ist über dem Durchschnitt.
The rooms had everything you needed and was clean
The bar prices was overpriced
Fabulous staff, room and location, would highly recommend
nothing
Homely traditional inn
Booking.com
Paul greeted us when we arrived, very polite, helpful and gave us lots of handy information, then he took us to our room. This was very very clean, very well equipped , we were very happy with everything that was available to us. We were amazed at the extent of the breakfast menu, honestly they have all your dietary needs covered , so much choice! The breakfast was piping hot , very fresh and the sausages that are hand made are so good, a must try. All the staff were lovely , nothing was too much trouble and we will return. Great location, massive car park too. Thank you Paul and the team.
The only tiny thing and it’s not a criticism, I just found the room very warm but I used the fans provided and that sorted it, greatly appreciated.
Well situated, clean, staff were lovely, safe, great food
Food rather expensive
Lovely welcome from owners , highly recommend & location was great
Local draught beer !
The staff were friendly. The room was clean.
The room was tried, and the shower cubicle was too small. The stairs, although partitioned off, were part of my room, which was very noisy with footsteps and chatter. I could hear machinery buzzing all night of one type or another. The guests should be warned to be mindful of other guests. The guests going to their rooms late at night were too noisy with chatter and slamming their room doors. The rooms by no means soundproofed.
