We stayed 1 night in the 3rd building. Greatly in need of updating and refresh! TVs have been removed from rooms. Holes were unfilled from where they must have hung! Tired old wallpaper borders in room and bathroom plus a sad old tole painted wall hanging of teapots over bed area! Toilet rocked when you sat on it, marked up vinyl flooring in dire need of replacing. The positives were location and restaurant. Food was great for supper and breakfast that we had. Staff were all friendly , polite and helpful. Bring something to eat and snacks if arriving late as there's no other options once on-site restaurant closes.
Room was spacious & had a nice separate sitting area with balcony. Bed was comfortable. Nice views. Sitting area looked to be remodeled since there wasn’t carpet-need to get rid of the nasty carpet in bedroom section tho! Also the coffee pot had probably not been cleaned since 1970! It was filthy-hubs cleaned it as best he could so he could have a cup.We don’t require daily housekeeping but it was included in our rate. We had trash/recycling in the bins & dirty towels on the floor for them to remove/replace. We were not there when housekeeping came, but all they did was leave 2 clean towels! Didn’t take dirty ones or empty trash. If they aren’t going to do anything then don’t offer daily service!
In the dozen or so years that we have stayed at the Brier Island Lodge, we have seen tremendous improvements in the property. Most recently, all the doors, cedar shingles and upper floor/stairway railings have been replaced on the third building, making for a more polished exterior. All else remains as we have known it over the years: A clean, comfortable room with a wonderful view of the Grand Passage. The appropriately named Grand View Dining Room continues to serve delicious meals. The hiking trail out to Gooseberry Cove provides wonderful birding experiences, connecting with Seal Cove, which provides (as the name suggests) wonderful opportunities to see the seals. And, of course, the whale watching experiences in the Bay of Fundy are second to none. Brier Island is one of our favorite getaways. We'll keep coming back!
as a senior couple .... we decided to take a last minute trip to Brier Island... it's not far from where we live ... 2+ hours ... sooooo .. we thought .... why not stay over night ! We booked on a Thursday afternoon - to stay Friday night -- we were told 'there were not many rooms available, that had a patio or deck' -- 'but we do have a king suite, ground floor , with a patio' = for $279 a night plus $8.37 - levy service, and $40.23 sales tax --- total $327.60 for 1 night .... we said ok book it for us. we arrived just after 2pm and checked in .... went in to our room, and found it adequate ,,, but -- trying to connect to their ''free wi-fi'' did not work ... thought hmmmmm ,,, and tried again in a little while ,,, still nothing . Husband goes up to the front desk and asked about it --- and was told 'we are having troubles with the wi-fi' - so he came back to the room - that we had NOT touched -- we just went out on to the patio and enjoyed a cocktail .... a short while later I mentioned .. 'did you try the TV yet ? ' because we had one in our room - where most of the rooms did NOT have a TV in the room -- we tried the TV - and of course it did not work, as it too runs with a wi-fi signal - Roku - .... at this point we're quite upset, as we had planned to watch the Fifa soccer game that evening ! once again husband goes up to the front desk , and talks to the desk clerk about the wi-fi ,, and he asked her how long has the wi-fi been out - her reply '' since yesterday'' , he then asked her - '' why didn't you tell us that when we checked in - because we wouldn't have checked in to begin with'' -- she had no answer, but just then the manager walked in to the reception -- so husband talked to him ,,, and asked the same questions about the wi-fi -- manager - George - said '' it just went off at 4am - and it's beyond our control'' and husband asked the same question --- '' why were not told on check in'' -- George had no answer either ... but ... he did say ''if you're not happy you can just leave'' -- and the receptionist said ''you haven't been charged yet, so there will be no charges to you'' ..... not only was the wi-fi down .... but .... there were workers who had a sewer cover open right next to the room, and the stench was horrendous ! sooooooo we couldn't even sit out side on our very expensive patio to enjoy the water view -- which we paid a premium price for -- or any thing else ..... sooo -- we did what George told us to do if we were not happy --- WE LEFT -- and we did ask for a receipt that stated we would NOT be charged any dollar amount -- they would not give us one !! -- this was 1 + 1/2 hours later --- wellllll just to say , we looked at our bank account today, the day we would have checked out ,,,, and --- there is a charge of $200 from the Brier Inn Lodge Ltd. --- needless to say .......... husband gets on the phone, with George the manager , to dispute the $200 fee for NOT using the room - we didn't even sit on the bed ! George says ''they found the room in upheaval,'' which is a blatant lie ! -- we left the the room as we found it when we walked in ..... I am 70 and my husband is right behind me in age ! --- not only is George the manager ,, a fabricator of lies -- but he is a very rude individual --- husband said to George the manager that we will dispute this with the credit card company,,,, and George to us ''go ahead and try ... and ... NEVER call the Lodge ever again''' sooooo dear people be very carful where you book a hotel room -- check every thing out as soon as you step in the door ! and take pictures when you leave ! a couple of ''old fools''
In fairness Brier Island has a population of ~200 and this is the only hotel on the island with 1 restaurant and 1 pub. The location is good and the views from the lounge and restaurant are great. Free Wifi, parking and there are EV chargers. Not all rooms have TVs, AC or microwaves, but they have fridges and not all rooms have a good ocean view. The rooms are well maintained and clean, the bathrooms floors good do with a bit more elbow grease. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s not the Ritz but then you shouldn’t expect it to be.
Nice rooms, with great views of the grand passage & harbour. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were warm and friendly, always open for a chat and offer advice on things to do. There is a nice restaurant on site offering good food offering evening meals and breakfast.
excellent
The ocean view at the resturant is amazing and the staff are welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious and clean, we enjoyed everything about our stay and would happily come again.
Older rooms but everything needed was provided including extra bedding, heating and fan and very clean and comfortable. Fridge made noises but turning it off was all it needed. The walls could be sound proofed. The man next door snored all night! Breakfast was very good. Wine had a big mark up price. Take your own! Receptionist was friendly and helpful.
The location was centrally located on Brier Island. The check-in staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was as advertised. We had dinner on the property. My husband's meal was not the proper temperature. The server walked to the kitchen and then returned the plate to the table. The food had not been heated. When the plate was returned the 2nd time, it was extremely hot. The breakfast server and meal were great.
Rooms were huge and very clean.
very friendly staff and good restaurant. No ac in room but windows and fan there made it comfortable
Stayed here so we could do whale watching cruise and the people were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was convenient and very good. The only drawback was no a/c in room but we used the fan provided with open windows and was just fine.
Not many amenities. Nice view and location. People not mean but not overly friendly either.
A very basic motel-like experience. Rooms with only a coffee machine. Cardboard-like walls with noise fully audible from adjoining rooms. Noisy bathroom fan in a 1950’s bathroom.
Great meals,
The property location is wonderful: on a hill in the small remote Village of Westport on Briar Island. The facilities are basic, clean and comfortable. The food is very good and staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is incredible, with scenic beauty!
I would not let my dog stay in first room they have use, and he is dead. Had to pay extra $159 to get a ok room.
Lovely place. Rustic but clean and up to date. Helpful staff. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Fantastic view
The property has a very scenic view and a good restaurant. Our room on the other hand was disappointing, considering it was one of the most expensive places we stayed at in Nova Scotia. No clock radio or TV or even a box of Kleenex. Very basic. It would have been nice to have a few chairs to sit on outside our unit. Another thing that bothered us is when we paid for the room there was a tip option on the card reader. Never had that before! A $50 tip on a room that was below par. Come on!
The view from the diningroom was spectacular.
The view from the lodge is spectacular!! The restaurant’s menu has no bad choices!! It is a great spot to unplug and unwind.
Amazing dinner, great location, we shall be back.
The location and views are outstanding! The rooms have a separate seating area and an outdoor patio facing the bay. The restaurant was fabulous and they are well informed about celiac disease and food allergies.
This was my second stay here, 16 years apart. The lodge is up above the town, easy to get to from the ferry if you're driving (or in my case bicycling). Room was basic, but clean and it was very nice to be able to open the second door leading directly outside for catching the breeze. Onsite restaurant was tasty and even without reservations, the hostess was able to seat me. Hoping it won't be another 16 years before my next visit.
This is an beautiful and immaculately well kept lodge
Decent rooms, convenient location, very nice staff. Not all rooms have TVs, some have A/C others have fans provided. Have stayed twice and both times haven’t been dissatisfied. Only thing I’d warn you about is the breakfast at the on site restaurant is not great and it’s a bit expensive for what it is. It’s the only breakfast option on the island so be prepared.
We did not have air conditioning, a balcony, or TV. Terribly overpriced for rundown insufficient amenities.
WAYYYYYYYYYYY overpriced! I guess they can do this as they are really the only motel on the island. Had to pay for the 'apartment' as that the only thing left (my fault didn't think ahead that it was memorial day weekend) But the front desk gal was snippy and the apt was just OK. For the price i paid it should have been spectacular.
Excellent place to stay and go whale watching, great food and service in the restaurant, highly recommend.
Rooms in older section in need of updating . Newer section much better .
Views from the property were amazing. The staff were great. The room was pretty basic (hard beds, thin pillows, no TV, no air conditioning, poor air flow) considering the high price.
Friendly staff, but room was not 100% prepared.
All staff were very helpful, on checking in we got to our room and it wasn't what we expected, turns out we only booked for the basic room with no lock for the bathroom. We paid extra for the upgraded room in one of these new refurbished building and it is so worth the money.
Good location, nice room size and bathroom. Our room located in main building, walls dont contain neighbours noise or corridor movements.
Great place
A finge facility in a remote place.
We stayed here because we booked a whale tour and there were three lighthouses we could drive to and see. The breakfast & dinners were excellent.
Excellent stay, the diner at the restaurant was exceptional.
No phone, no tv, shower with either cold or scalding water-had to keep turning it off and on. Had to run tub for kids so they wouldn’t burn themselves in shower. Beds only passable-lumpy. Common rooms good and restaurant was ok. Shortage of staff it seemed.
We went do whale watching and It was good for the night we stayed. Gorgeous view and friendly staff.
The food at the lodge restaurant was anazing and fresh.
Needed a place to crash for a music festival. This fit the bill. Log panelling but no tv. Why would you want to watch tv when whales are frequently seen in the channel offshore? The lodge is positioned up on a hill overlooking the channel and the bays of Fundy and St Mary’s beyond. The restaurant has great food. Be aware that Briar Island has fog more often than not.
Great view. Good food in restaurant
Food was great,room were clean
Property was little bit rundown but quiet and clean. Staff were very friendly. Great place to spend few days to do some island exploring and go for whale watching.
Pleasant and efficient
Our stay was wonderful! We chose Brier Island Lodge for our stay as we had an early whale watching tour (which was phenomenal) and the lodge exceeded our expectations. Staff were friendly and accommodating, dining on site is a bonus and the rooms were clean and quaint. We were able to leave the island with a sense of peace and a desire to go back.
Great spot.
The Lodge has obviously been newly upgraded and looks good. The bathroom door didn't close properly and there was only one roll of toilet paper. Luckily we didn't need more! The tap in the sink was dirty, only the handle had been wiped. There were no cups/mugs for the coffee/tea that was available in the room, and no creamers had we been able to make some. The restaurant was nice, the service was very good too.
Overall for the age very nice
Great location. Marcus, the restaurant manager, is a world class host and made us welcome. We ate all our meals there for 2 days and all were excellent. Brier Island Whale tour was very good. Especially enjoyed the walk to the lighthouse.
Spectacular views from the dining room . Food was excellent and staff was most helpful and accommodating.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😔👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Lovely property on a hill overlooking the ocean.
Nice place to stay on the island. Has a restaurant attached. Lunch/dinner meals are pretty good, our breakfast was terrible but they discounted it for us due to the poor quality. Have stayed here multiple times and will probably stay again. Just don’t expect much for breakfast.
Great location. Wonderful views. Needs updating. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed. The staff was very friendly and helpful
It was great to find a nice place to stay, convenient to the ferry and the whale watching cruise. It was an easy trip the morning we went on the boat and very convenient to all the local sights. Great restaurant, nice clean rooms.
The exterior could be refreshed. The rooms were good and clean. The locks to separate rooms could be updated. The restaurant was very good for supper and breakfast $. Nice waterfront view.
We enjoyed our one night stay. If I had been staying longer, the room could use a TV and curtains that cover the entire window/door. Spectacular views ! We didn't have time to use the restaurant this time, but previous visits the food there is delicious.
Really nice place . Super kind host who owns it
We had a lovely stay
Would go back again ! Management and staff very helpful and accommodating
Someone else's hair on bathroom floor. Floor not clean.
This is a good place to sleep if you come for whale watching, and relatively well priced. Our room didn't have AC, but the restaurant and front desk employees were all very nice.
Best location for overnight stay to be able to do whale watching the next day at Brier Island, considering you’d have to leave on time to catch 2 ferries that are on hourly schedules. Awesome food!
.
Really enjoyed our stay. Very nice staff! Facilities are great, however, an upgrade on the mattresses is in order.
Well, I have been procrastinating as usual and not getting word out there of an amazing experience we had while on the Islands for Brody's Graduation. We are from the islands but are not able to use our house as it's not wheelchair friendly. I started looking for accommodations for a two night stay while home back in April. My hubby is a C6 quadriplegic and is in a power chair. There are VERY limited options for accommodations in this province, let alone on the Island. So, I made a few phone calls and sent messages to many different places, in hopes to find something close. I spoke many times with Tiffany about the possibility of staying at the lodge. I gave her a needs list and she went at it. She was amazing! It was determined that one room they had in particular would work for us so I booked it. Thank gosh! Anyway, fast forward to the day before graduation. Once we arrived at the Lodge, George ( who was absolutely amazing btw) showed us to our room, which I went and scouted out to make absolutely sure it would work before unloading and getting Matt out of the van. We immediately ran into an issue with the bed. While there was 6 inches clearance, it had a box frame under it and the lift would only go under less than a foot. He reassured me that he would figure it out and ran and got Virginia, who both went looking for a different frame. Thankfully they found one that would accommodate us and we went to work changing it out. I CANNOT even begin to express my thanks for what they did for us! And not only that, when I went to pay for the room, it had been taken care of! What the heck!! So, me being me, I burst into tears and thanked Tiffany and Crystal profusely. To say I was shocked was an understatement!! So THANK you to Brier Island Lodge for being Amazing hosts! I honestly thought I was going to have to make the trip back to Dartmouth and come back down the next day. What a relief!! AND, not only did the lodge do that, but Grandview on Brier, not only offered to bring our breakfast to the room, but provided it for free! Thank you so much to Katherine and Marcus! We appreciated that so much!! And huge shout out, the breakfast was amazing!! It was really the only meal I wound up eating the whole time we were home. (I didn't get the chance to eat what I had gotten from the Cafe in Tiverton because well, you know, ferries and time. Lol) 🤪 So THANK YOU to Tiffany , Virginia, George, Katherine and Marcus and Crystal for EVERYTHING you all did for us! You are all amazing!! You made our trip one I will never forget and one I will forever be grateful for! You can't beat the hospitality of the Islands!! Thank you from the bottom of our 💕 Matt & Laurie
Good
The room was fine. Wish they could have emptied the garbage cans before we arrived. Others garbage left a lot to be desired. No tv was interesting. Shower was okay when the hot was working. Bed was extremely comfortable Staff and view was best part. Breakfast was good but super pricey for what you got.
Great
Nice restaurant, very friendly staff, great views over the water, clean, nice walking trail starting at edge of property......a great little island getaway with of course a super whale watching trip mustdo.
Property was in a convenient location for our tour. Very basic place.
The rooms are pretty basic, but are clean, beds are comfy and everything works. Proximity to whale and bird watching tours is great too. Dining is nice as well.
Room temperature ok for no a/c but comfortable
Excellent breakfast and dinner! Clean and friendly staff! Room are spacious, beautiful, clean and beds were comfortable!
Loved everything about it!! Staff was amazing!!
This place has stunning views, beautiful trails to walk, great location. It's quiet, staff are wonderful, restaurant is great. An amazing place to get lost in nature and still have luxury and ability to stay connected with people back home. This is not a crazy, busy tourist place. If you want to feel like you have beaches and seals all to yourself, but still want a comfy bed, Brier Island and Brier Island lodge is the place to be! The restaurant closes fairly early, but we were able to request a meal ahead of time on an evening we were returning after closing time. The restaurant will have your meal ready and waiting for you at the front desk. Bring warmer clothes than you normally would in the summer as the Island can be cool and foggy at times. Pick up a few groceries before going to the island. Overall, this is our favourite get-away spot to date.
Our room is clean, quiet and updated. Lots of space with a great kitchen attached.
Just would not have stayed there knowing the conditions
The location was great and so were the staff. We stayed in a lodge room. Very small. No tv and few outlets. After one shower there was no hot water for quite awhile. Restuarant food was good. Overall it was an ok stay. I wanted to be on the island and I was. I would stay again but maybe in one of the newer buildings.
Rooms had a strange smell
We had a pleasant stay there. Everything was just perfect. Will highly recommend this place.
It was just right. The customer service was excellent.
Brier Island Lodge is a great place to stay on Brier island. Especially if you are doing an early morning whale watching tour, I highly recommend to stay at the island. Our room was very spacious and clean, we had access to the front with a small patio, but we could not move the chairs from the patio to adapt to the sun. The room was well equipped with a coffee maker, microwave and a fridge. The beds were good, and we had a sitting area as well. The views were amazing.
Great location, friendly staff and amazing food!
Loved the area!!
Was conveniant for whale watching. Property and room was clean. Food was excellent in the restaurant. Staff were awesome and very friendly and welcoming. Would stay again
All good
Nice!!!
Beautifully built and maintained lodge with fun board games at the reception. If you are visiting Brier island, this lodge is the perfect place to stay up and rest!
Everything was just perfect
We had a beautiful stay at the lodge. Everyone was so friendly and inviting. The room was comfortable and the views were spectacular. Will definitely return for whale watching. The restaurant is incredible as well!
The room was very basic . No TV, clock radio, phone and the room was quite small for three people.
Room was a great setup when travelling with family, nice kitchette.
Overlook ferrying or woods. Dirt road hike to lighthouse to watch whales go by. Hike to only corner store or whale watching tours. No pool or swim facilities. Not busy end of Oct. 2 couples given very small balconies. King Rooms have basics, table, mini fridge. Very pricey. Outside access.
An excellent place to stay on Brier Island. Comfortable acommodation, very friendly staff and tasty food. The best of Nova Scotia hospitality!
I had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
