Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Nice room (a little dated, but comfortable) and very nice onsen. Friendly staff.
The outside of the buildings are very poorly maintained. Extensive weathering and damage evident, and the hotel entrance is so disappointing (tools and junk laying around) our taxi driver circled the block because even he could not believe this was the correct entrance. Also, the location is absolutely NOT “ski in/ski out.” It is a steep uphill walk to nearest lifts. Finally, the onsen (hot spring pool) seemed rather uncontrolled, so many people who were not guests at the hotel wander in and do not respect the guidelines for the pool.
Comfortable, clean, affordable, nice staff, onsen
Nothing it was great
Large comfortable Japanese Room, beautiful view, great onsen, delicious varied breakfast. Not far to lifts
Can be slippery getting to and from hotel in winter
Great range of breakfast items and friendly staff
Rather old and not well maintained but still clean
It has everything you need, from rental and coach, bars, onsen, washing machine, table tennis and games. Have outdoor onsen too. Staff were friendly. Great that they provided us with waterproof boots for us to walk when the floor was flooded from the melted ice. There a lot of food trucks and choices as well though I did not eat those food. Location was decent, but still need to walk a distance to ski lift
It is very dated and there was a very strong ‘Chinese oil’ smell when we first entered. The bath and onsen were quite old and you can see the age in the building through the black stains in the bathroom and onsen floors. Washing machine basins were also quite dirty.
Loved the onsen and the night vibe at the lobby. Breakfast buffet spread was also grea. Location is just a 5-7 min walk to the ski resort. Great facilities for kids! (Games room and playroom)
Nothing!
Loved the location, a short, great warm‑up walk to the ski lift and slopes. The room was simple and spacious, with a traditional Japanese tatami feel that added to the overall cozy atmosphere. (Tatami could be softer as personal preference) Dipping in the outdoor onsen after a long day on the slopes is such a relaxing way to end the day, the hot spring waters were very soothing. Though the hotel was a little dated, the view and location made up for it, especially to see the quiet mountain scenery around Akakura. The staff were also very kind and willing to go the extra mile to help when asked.
The bathroom, as the water wouldn’t drain properly and would pool up on the floor. Even after informing the hotel, the issue wasn’t fixed throughout my stay, so I ended up using the onsen bath area daily instead. The Onsen: The wash/bath area of the onsen itself felt unclean: the floor was slimy and covered in dark‑green mold, making it slippery and unpleasant to walk on. The space also had a strong, unpleasant odor, which was disappointing, especially since the bath area is closed for cleaning for certain hours every day. I hope the hotel will thoroughly clean and fix the mold and slime on the onsen wash area floor so that future guests can enjoy the onsen in a hygienic and relaxing environment.
Staffs are very polite and nice. Onsen is very good. Close to ski slope.
Nothings
Close to Akakura ski area (walking distance). Walking distance to restaurants in the area. There is a shuttle bus down the street if you want to visit other ski resorts. Staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. They offer a free shuttle to and from Myokokogen train station. Rooms were extremely clean. The main highlight was the delicious buffet breakfast every morning!
Loved everything we come back every year.
One thing I have noticed is a lot of black mold inside the shower area in the public onsen. If you are sensitive to mold like us it can be a bit much to deal with. Other than that nothing love it all
Spacious rooms and fantastic staff, all so helpful! Delicious breakfast as well.
The rooms were amazing with great views and very generous in size. We loved the traditional Japanese style rooms. The staff at reception were very warm and attentive.
The public spaces were chaotic with laminated signs everywhere and poorly presented venues. Some of the seasonal staff in the cafe and ski shop were disinterested in guests and more interested in talking to their friends.
Lovely and location was perfect
Nothing
Great hotel with lots of facilities, bars and restaurant options
Very minor but somewhere to hang towels would be good
A very comfortable and lovely hotel. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful view of the mountain which was great to see the snow drift outside.
Fantastic property with amazing onsen! Great traditional rooms & traditional Japanese breakfast
Good location and spacious room
Dusty and housekeeping service was minimal
員工友善,酒店地點方便近大街,設施還可,有車站來回接送很好
酒店WIFI不太好
facilities in the hotel were awesome and the distance to ski area is walkable.
the breakfast always provides the same kinds of food everyday.
I loved everything about this stay! The hotel was amazing, with so many facilities, spacious and clean room where we felt very comfortable, location was so great - walking distance to everything! would stay here every time we come to myoko now and highly recommend
nothing
I like that there was an area big enough to hang out with all our friends.
The Onsen was not Hot and it was very dirty.
Reception is nice . Breakfast is good.
Location is great, guests are predominantly from Australia during snow season, experienced a bit of reverse cultural shock, feel like I’m in a pub in Sydney instead of a traditional Japanese ryokan in Japan, very noisy however if you don’t mind, this hotel is great for you.
The room was huge and beds were comfortable. Excellent views.
Lack of smart TV, the location of the hotel was a tad further from the ski slopes
Staff, onsen, fresh supply of towels & amenities daily, live music in lobby, prices very reasonable for drinks - great vibe, breakfast comprehensive
Great staff in all facilities, from reception to ski hire to bar staff
Nothing
Location, onsen, breakfast, staff, good vibe
Staff nice and helpful, response fast. Offer free shuttle bus to Myoko Kogen Station. Most of them can communicate in English.
Cleaniness of showering area (floor) in onsen should be improved.
Breakfast, free shuttle from / to the train station, onsen , location
Nothing
Only the room was fine. Staff was very friendly and helpful
Breakfast room was old fashion, as well as all the common areas …. Breakfast tables were not very fresh . Food was average . Hotel common areas need renovation… rather very poor.
Perfect place to stay in Myoko! We had a great experience with Hotel Taiko. Great location! Easily walkable to the main street and to the lifts. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful when required. I asked for privacy in our room one morning and they were very accommodating and respectful. The buffet breakfast was delicious! The friendly staff serving every morning were a highlight, especially the chef making eggs!! The convenience of food trucks right outside and the hotel bar made it easy to relax in the lobby after a big day on the snow. We stayed in 2x traditional Japanese rooms, which were comfortable and relaxing. Large rooms with lots of space. The staff kindly transferred our luggage between rooms while we were out, which we appreciated!! The onsen is clean and a new experience for us Aussies. The amenities were always stocked, and we felt comfortable every single time entering. Will definitely be returning and recommending this to anyone travelling to Myoko!
Great for small kids. Large rooms, great play area.
The breakfast was great. And location was excellent.
The room was spacious, very comfortable with a magnificent view. They also had live music and a nice lounge area. The kids room on level 7 was a bonus! Breakfast was also excellent with lots of choices.
Nothing!
The location was ideal for snowboarders with several ski parks within 15 minutes of driving. There are plenty of quality restaurants to choose from. The room was cleaned every day and replenished.
The room we were given had only one rather hidden wall socket. The shower was unacceptably weak and we had to visit the onsen place for shower, which cost us an extra 150 yen per day per person. The detergent was not free and cost another 200 yen. Inside the onsen there was no drinking water available and the only water dispenser was sometimes empty. There was a pub with good vibe but we were given a room close to the pub and the music was audible in late evenings. Breakfasts are included and may require long waiting. Tables are poorly organised and you can see one guest occupying an entire table because its not shared.
Family room view, comfort, size. Live music bar in the evening paired with the various food trucks options for easy dinners Variety of breakfast Convenience of pick-up at train station The onsen experience Efficient team
Playground at level 7 closes too early Lack of family/children space at lobby lounge
*Super friendly and helpful staff. *Hotel minibus train station pickup/dropoff service. *Spacious room and very comfortable beds. *Large multi-bath onsens with outdoor baths. *Excellent included breakfast. *Skigear Hire/Lesson bookings on site. *Spacious lobby lounge/cafe area with plenty of seating for groups and food caravans outside. *Onsite sushi restaurant very good. *Vending machines and laundry room appreciated. *Have re-booked for next year 👍.
*Heating level in room was difficult to control. Room felt hot overnight. *Coin-op massage chairs near onsens much appreciated but could probably do with updating. *Hotel was almost 100% Australian guests during our stay (including ourselves). If you are seeking a culturally immersive Japanese experience you may prefer another location. But that is difficult now at Japanese ski resorts in any area.
The staff were very welcoming and also very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. They arranged a private shuttle to pick us up from Myoko-kogen station with short notice and made check in very easy as most staff could also speak English very well. The outdoor Onsen was fantastic! Nice breakfasts and clean rooms. It's an older style resort vet quite charming and has a warm atmosphere. The owners are doing a great job and the guests all seem to enjoy this hotel like we all did. There is a ski/snowboard rental shop inside, an in house sushi restaurant, kids play area, ski gear drying room, bar and even several stalls at the entrance selling delicious street food.
Futons were a bit thin for westerners, I'm sure if requested they could offer extra ones help with this but we didn't see it as this much of an issue.
Quite a variety of things to eat
Great breakfast. LOts of variety and friendly staff and good food! Location is great. Close to all the action and the lifts. Lobby / Lounge had a good vibe.
Clear the snow from the front door!
great location. close to main strip and lifts. Breakfast option include both Japanese and Western with fresh pancakes and omelette stations. large drying room for all the snow gear. Has lots of food options and a great foyer for catching up with friends after. Definitely a great place for families. we look forward to our next stay there.
Great location. It was everything we could ask for with our family of 5. The hotel is very accomodating for families. We will visit again.
Amazing onsen great views 7-minute walk to lifts and bus incredible buffet breakfast great winter facilities in the hotel. Food vans out the front of the hotel hot ski boot room.
Loved the Onsen and lobby area. Rooms were generous and clean
Nothing - a really great stay
Room was spacious, the onsen was lovely and nice to have massage available in the hotel. Location is good, close to the main strip and walking distance to the ski fields.
Room was very simple and dated, hot water limited and a bit of a maze to navigate.
The room was very spacious ! The onsen is amazing too
We liked it
Location Onsen staff. All excellent

very generous rooms. very clean and lovely staff. very accommodating for young families and great play area. they even provide gym boots for the snow
Friendly staff, breakfast included delicious omelettes cooked to order by chef also another chef making fresh pancakes. clean comfortable rooms Plenty of choice for food on site, trucks out the front were great ! Sushi Restaurant on level 2 was amazing
Coffee included in breakfast was average. Onsen needs a good clean or refurbishment Cafe Bar in the Loby has potential but slow lazy young staff No focus on good service or cleaning tables
Beautiful hotel, great views from my traditional Japanese room which was huge! The staff were lovely and the sushi restaurant was a bonus, so you didn’t have to walk far for dinner. Fantastic onsen as well. Overall, a great place to stay.
I thought it was advertised as ski in and out…
Breakfast buffet and the staff were excellent . Reception staff were amazing with helping to book taxis and restaurant reservations . Food vans are a nice touch
The onsen is amazing but having it open to the public really ruins the experience . Maybe having it open to the public for a limited couple of hours a day would improve your guests have a quieter more relaxing experience
I liked the outdoor onsen. It was beautiful in the snow.
I didn't like how old and dated the hotel was. It desperately needs updating.
The Breakfast was amazing and the rooms are clean and bright
Slight walk to the lift area in Akakura but nothing too bad
A massive hotel, with all the facilities you need, large hall with buffet breakfast, onsen, onsite parking, friendly staff, ski locker, food trucks and restaurants. Conveniently located in Akakura-onsen Myoko close to the ski lifts. Recommend a car to visit dining options out of town. Very good value for money. Would stay again.
Our room decor felt a little bit dated. It was clean and well appointed though.
Great foyer Olsen and staff
Nothing best hotel in Akakura
Staff was great and helpful and accommodating. Rooms were spacious and hotel was nice and cosy to hangout. Breakfast was good and very authentic.
It is a long walk to the slopes. But good thing there is a shuttle bus. Gets rather crowded during peak times and season.
We loved Taiko! Great room, amazing view, friendly and super helpful staff, delicious breakfast, onsen access, great lobby hang out, on site massages. Everything was amazing!
Nothing
We loved our stay at hotel Taiko. The staff were amazing, so friendly and welcoming and they organised our luggage delivery for us upon departure. Our room was a traditional Japanese room, it was a good size and very comfortable. The other hotel amenities were great. The onsen was awesome, breakfast each day was delicious and Sessions bar in the foyer is a great place to have a beer after a day on the mountain. The sushi restaurant on L2 is a must!!
The water pressure in the room was quite weak. Its not a big deal if you are using the onsen but dont expect the shower in your room to be very hot or strong.
