Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Great breakfast included in the price we paid. Also had dinner one evening which was excellent. Staff extremely helpful
Great breakfast and service
Music from the bar went on too late
Breakfast was nice and the staff were lovely, if seemingly a bit under staffed and having to work the restaurant and the bar and check in all at once.
However the room was disappointing. It was not cleaned well, we found a previous guests underwear in the desk drawer (not reported to staff). Some parts (like above the sliding bathroom door) were thickly coated in dust showing rarely deeply cleaned. The door didn't shut on its own which may be a fire hazard too.
Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast
Definitely not four star accommodation
The location is in the centre of town, very convenient. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
More information about parking (none available but local parking close-by). The bar was not particularly inviting. During a 3.30 am fire alarm there was no fire warden or staff onsite for over 20 minutes.
Central and spotlessly clean
Nothing
friendly staff good food in the evening
No problems
Basic but clean and good size room. Great location. Friendly staff.
Old building which is great, character etc however the leaning floors, corridors and steps really disoriented us 🤣 our beds were on a real slant!!! Would still stay there again however.
Clean.. middle of the town. Walking distance frlm everything needed
The staff were so friendly and helpful We asked for an earlier check in which was arranged and ready for us Jay was very helpful during our stay The hotel was in the centre of Abergavenny and a good location for a wedding at Sugar Loaf Barn
Possibly a little tired around the edges but overall clean and welcoming
Location mostly
Location, very clean staff were great and the Regency restaurant serving authentic Nepalese cuisine was superb
Location
Small room, small bathroom 1/2 roll of toilet paper and the shower was like a small box
Great location and pleasant staff.
Could go with a refurbish! .
good breakfast
Great location in the centre of town and friendly staff. The shower was nice and powerful and the room was overall very comfortable and clean.
The room was a bit hot for me.
Rooms were large, clean & comfortable. In a great spot & lovely staff. We had a fab time!
Fabulous breakfast.
Comfortable hotel in central town. Friendly staff and good room.
Great room, service and breakfast, staff was very nice. We had a lovely stay.
Nothing
Nice rooms with comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. The staff were great. The guy that checked us in couldn’t do enough to help accommodate our motorbikes and help us park them at back of hotel safely. Would highly recommend for bikers. We had an Indian meal in the restaurant which was amazing. Had a nice breakfast included the next day. Loved this hotel and would deffo stay there again.
Nothing.
Its central location is good. The single bed in room 5 was a good size. All facilities worked fine.
Getting out of the shower cubicle was a bit of a struggle.
A great hotel in the very centre of Abergavenny. Great room and comfortable beds. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful and great food. Excellent prices at the bar too!! Thank you all
good location
room is now in need of updating
Very central. Clean. Comfy bed. Friendly staff.
No air con. Noise from the street.
Lovely location and friendly staff.
The room was very small and hot to be in. The bed was small and uncomfortable so we didn’t have a good nights sleep. The bathroom was a tiny cupboard which neither of us fit inside so we couldn’t shower. The sink had a large crack in and the toilet roll holder was broken. The breakfast was disappointing, my partner picked the poached egg with his and it came out solid. A lovely area to visit but we were left let down by the accommodation.
Lovely stay. Staff very friendly, lovely breakfast
First time at this pub/restaurant mixed reviews my daughter and my partner had baguettes and a wrap these looked quite good.I thought I would have a ploughman’s lunch something I have not had for many years. Well good job I am on a diet not really the hearty snack I remember 1 slice of ham nothing special could buy it from Tesco a small slice of plastic cheese cheap catering cheese 4 silver skin pickle onions and a tiny pot of pickle half a baguette with a butter pat and a small mixed salad £13.95 service was good but one member of staff was loud and totally wanted to be centre of attention even my daughter commented. Drink prices were reasonable
Excellent breakfast, good price especially compared to other local spots.
Superb Hotel center of town safe motorcycle parking in the beer garden behind. Very nice, helpful staff all in all superb 😀👍🏽
I liked everything 😄👌👍🏽
Convenient for main street. Really good food as Nepali/ Indian restaurant there and excellent cooked breakfast. Comfortable, decent sized room.
Bit dusty behind appliances but immediately sorted by staff. Thank you.
Great location, clean & tidy, decent breakfast. Very friendly staff.
Nothing worth mentioning
Location
En-suite very small and shower poor

Cannot comment on the actual accommodation. We were 9 friends who booked for Sunday Lunch. The service was excellent and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Most had the Sunday roast lamb and beef, everything excellent especially the Yorkshire puddings and gravy. I had an excellent Caeser salad and two had burgers which you certainly could not fault. Well done chef and staff will certainly revisit!!!!!
Breakfast options were varied and good. Pub atmosphere downstairs and restaurant atmosphere in adjoining room both enjoyable
cooked breakfast food was good but no yogurt of fresh fruit option, only packets of cereal.
how close it is to everything
Lovely comfortable room they even gave us a fan which was great as it was very hot Breakfast was lovely great choice Staff very friendly and helpful Thank you
Bon petit déjeuner servi à table pour une partie. Restaurant du soir type indien Place gratuite pour garer son véhicule le long du trottoir. Chambre correcte avec moquette
Poor parking for disabled
The location was excellent, staff were very polite, helpful and smiling. Room was a decent size and the shower was good. Breakfast was good and served at reasonable times with local produce. In the night it serves as the local Indian restaurant and the smells were lovely. Due to the weather, there was a fan supplied which was a nice touch.
Only one drawback was the room was above the kitchen area and could get noisy early mornings.
Thé staff were wonderful ,the location ideal and it had great character. Breakfast was fantastic ,worthy of a restaurant. Bike storage was also hugely valuable to us .
Nothing really .
Chose this hotel at short notice within my Cycle tour of Wales. Central location. Friendly welcome by Babu whom I understand multi-tasked as Chef. I was pleased with the safe, overnight lock provided up for my bike. Spacious bar and restaurant. Really enjoyed dinner and breakfast with particular thanks to Jay who was particularly engaging and helpful right up to my departure. Good atmosphere watching the football in the bar and have to say the bars earlier play list was about as good as it gets for me.

What a great little hotel. We stayed here for a couple of nights. It’s in a great location, car parks 5 minutes walk away, the larger being free except for Tuesdays, market day. Staff are very friendly, breakfast is good and the smell of curry was lovely. The room was a decent size but had no fridge. Our only drawback was the room was above the kitchen area so could get noisy early morning and, due to the weather we left the windows open. Would we go back? Yes, definitely
I loved the central location, the staff who were fab; the food in the restaurant, both evening and breakfast was delicious 🙏
It was a bit tired in the public bar and the stairs up to the room were a tad uneven but it's clearly an old property so expected... I had to concentrate coming down the last few wooden ones.
Superb staff who could not do enough for us over a very very hot weekend. Including purchasing a second fan for our room. Excellent location in the centre of town.
Just to be aware that there are many stairs to access some of the bedrooms and there is no lift. Also if you require an alternative to dairy you must let the hotel know before arrival as this is not provided as per norm. However the above are minor and the attitude of all of the staff far outweigh any negatives.
Central and free parking close by
Location , food was good
Mattresses was rubbish
Friendly staff, nice room, lovely breakfast( good choice). Central location so lots of cafés, bars, shops
Shame no on site parking but there is a free carpark a few minutes walk away
Central location in an attractive old town. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms and a good restaurant.
Situated more or less in the centre of town . As I was travelling by bicycle 🚲 the hotel provided secure storage . A cooling fan was provided in the room which enabled a good night's rest . Good service and an excellent breakfast .
Unfortunately the soap dispenser in the shower was empty , however I was able to use the one over the sink .
excellent value for money. central location.
breakfast was 100%. the room was spotless.good location but parking 2 min away

Good breakfast. The pub was in the centre of town. Clean room. Staff were nice.
OK, we were in the middle of a heatwave (yep, in Wales)! The room was stifling. But the fan in the room was absolutely hopeless. Even on high speed there was virtually no forward airflow. I don’t know why but was possibly because the edges of the blades were covered in an encrusted layer of dust which may have affected the aerodynamics of the fan. I requested another fan but was told they were all the same. Coincidentally, on our last day another guest, unprompted, stated to me that his zzzs fan was also a complete dud.
Great breakfast and well-located, surprisingly quiet considering its location
Room was very hot (during heatwave). No aircon, which I understand is not standard in the UK, but I did find it hard to sleep.
We liked the convenient location. Staff were great. My husband had the best omelette he’s ever eaten for breakfast! A nice change from the bog standard bacon/eggs.
Obviously everyone has suffered with the heat recently, but up 2 flights of stairs to a room that had had windows open all day & fan blowing hot air around made for a VERY poor night. Shower cubicle very small & the water dribbled out so not good.
Jay and Taylor were brilliant and very professional
Everything the room was spotless and the restaurant was fantastic
full welsh cooked breakfast
Good Location Comfortable bed.
The Noise was ridiculous out on the street, the Room was to small and me and my partner woke up with a Headache through Lack of sleep, there were no sockets by the side of the bed.
Perfect location and comfortable beds. The breakfast was excellent, I had eggs benedict, and Jay was efficient and accommodating.
Very central in Abergavenny. Well presented
Nothing
Good Central location in a picture postcode pretty town.
Breakfast was included, but the only coffee was instant.
Really great place and staff were welcoming and really helpful. Food was superb.
Nothing
nice and clean room lovely breakfast and place to see, will book again.
none
The breakfast was really good friendly staff
The bathroom was abit outdated
Rooms are basic and old fashioned but clean and effort made with them like nicely folded towels , bar is very much rough and ready but barman welcoming and friendly location is great in the centre of town and breakfast was worthy of the 4 star hotel across the road .Big thank you to the staff .
Localisation centrale
Its great. Its a bit of a boozer but the locals were all nice, well behaved and welcoming. The young lad who checked me in 'Neith' (?) may have got that wrong was personable and charming. The rooms are a bit basic but clean with bottled water and tea making facilities and a desk. Fine. Breakfast was fab. Cooked to order and of great quality. Forget those corporate coffins, Premier-Holiday-Whetherspoon-Inns. There are small independents out there who offer something interesting and work hard for your business. Utterly Great.
The Council pedestrianizes the street in front of the hotel for hours and on days you will never know but this is not the only town governed by twits.
Location was good in the heart of the town. There was also a very safe place for us to leave our bikes overnight. And the included breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices (really liked the pancakes with bacon)
The guest wifi wasn’t good at all and I couldn’t seem to access it anywhere for more than a brief minute or two at a time. Also the main bed in our room (#4) really needs to be replaced as you could feel the springs through the mattress.
Lovely restaurant evening meal. We had the Nepalese nettle curry and a chicken Jalfrezi. Both excellent. Also some good ales on tap, including Butty Bach. Bed comfortable. Quiet.
Room and bathroom both a little cramped.
Great location in the centre of Abergavenny, lovely breakfast as well.
Great location!
I don’t understand why some of the rooms came with breakfast and some not. Caused confusion. Wouldn’t it make more sense to include it with all rooms? This is the sort of thing that makes NO SENSE to a guest!
The breakfast was very good and the location was perfect.
Small maintenance issues.
Breakfast was excellent. Staff were excellent. The bed was comfortable
The bed and bathroom were both in need of updating. The room was situated near the kitchen extractor so smelled of Indian food. The TV had no working channels. I would not consider this to be a 4 star hotel
Breakfast was great , staff friendly , good location
Rooms are dated but clean
Superb location
No plug sockets by the bed
Breakfast, bed ,location
Tv didn't work told to use my account Netflix, door jamming very hard to open and handle broke just spinning round, sink all cracked, tap constantly dripping, 3 x 2ft dust bunnies cobwebs hanging from ceiling, small bug kept coming out overflow hole in sink, yuk
Very central. It was clean and the bed was comfortable.
I felt the room was a little small.
The staff were friendly helpful and welcoming. The location was great it is right on the high street, so very easy access to all the amenities. However you have to accept that with a central location does come some noise from the street. The breakfast was good, I cant comment on the restaurant as it was not open during our stay, but there were plenty of other alternative in walking distance.
The rooms are tiered and in desperate need of refurbishing. The carpets and chairs are dirty and stained. The bath was chipped and had a hole in one place. The towels and bed linen are clean. However, the towels are not replaced and there is nowhere to dry them so after the first day you are using damp towels. Our room was also not cleaned on one day. It is poor value for money. It was not worth the rate they are charging for their rooms.
Great place.
It was all good.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the evening meal in the Regency 59 restaurant was excellent.
The room was quite small and the pillows amd matress were rather uncomfortable.
The location is great.
Value for money. Why is breakfast bo longer included in the price of the room in hotels today? I ordered a tea, in the morning, in the dining room, was charged £2.50! What you can't spare a cup of tea for a resident. £12.00 for breakfast. Wow!! How can places charge such ridiculous prices, for somewhere really not that fancy.
Central location Comfortable room and helpful staff
Noisy from street outside night and morning
Our room was on the second floor with no lift. My husband is mildly disabled with Parkinsons Disease The room was so tiny.. The shower room was also tiny and again access was hazardous for my husband. Whilst I appreciate we should have enquired at time of booking, it would have been helpful if somewhere in the description of the facilities it could have been pointed that it was unsuitable for the disabled. Having said all that, the staff were very friendly and pleasant, and breakfast was enormous.
Right in the centre of Abergavenny town and close to amenities. Friendly staff Choice of cooked breakfast options
Hotel starting to feel tired. Very small shower cubicles.
Unfortunately, our stay at The King’s Head Hotel was not worth the money, despite its prime town‑centre location. Check‑in took place at the restaurant entrance during a very busy lunch service, which immediately felt awkward and unprofessional. We had to wheel our suitcase in and out between diners, which was uncomfortable and not what you would expect from a hotel charging premium rates. We were allocated Room 12 on the top floor. The room had very dated décor and, initially, staff were unable to locate our booking. This led us to feel that the room was a last‑minute or spare allocation rather than prepared accommodation. The condition of the room reinforced this impression. There were several worn and broken elements: cable trunking was split, woodwork was flaky and damaged, and the overall finish was poor. The room felt more like former staff quarters than a guest room. There was no headboard on the bed, further adding to the unfinished and neglected feel. Online photos were nowhere near a true reflection of the poor quality and condition of the room. It was a very hot day, so we needed to keep the window open. While we expected street noise due to the location, the window design created a significant safety issue. The window was large, opened inwards, and stretched over the pillow end of the bed. With the window open, there was a real risk of banging your head during the night. There was no hook or mechanism to keep it safely ajar, so it swung shut repeatedly overnight. The ensuite was extremely small, old fashioned, and impractical. It had a cheap‑looking MDF sliding door and was so cramped that we chose not to shower in the morning. We were keen to leave as early as possible. Breakfast was acceptable, although we were seated opposite a couple who spent the entire meal FaceTiming family on a laptop, which made the experience uncomfortable. The lady serving breakfast was pleasant and professional, but the absence of any visible management was noticeable. It felt as though management presence was deliberately avoided, perhaps to avoid being asked “How was your stay?” Had the stay not been prepaid, we would have seriously questioned paying in full for what was an overpriced, budget‑feeling experience. In general, we expect a four‑star hotel to provide a level of comfort that outweighs being at home. Sadly, this felt more like a two‑star experience. We could not wait to get home to some very simple comforts.
Good location, friendly staff, value for money
Very nice breakfast. Hot shower
Ground floor reception bar and restaurant had a very spicy smell. The bed head was below the window probably due to the slope of the floor. The shower ev en-suite was very poor like it had been bodged up in the 70s and not touched since. The stair tread levels were uneven making them potentially dangerous.
The location on the high street was excellent
Helpful staff
Near to Bus Station and Morrison’s!
There was not a Hairdryer in my bedroom! I had to borrow one from my family!
Lovely period old fashioned Hotel
Food is excellent - restaurant on the premises Room was a bit stuffy as no fans/aircon Location was excellent - right in the middle of town
Room was ok, but just a bit stuffy, so had to open window, then you heard all the music and bar noice
Lovely staff and great location in the center. Got a big comfortable room.
Traditional pub/hotel, very charming. Excellent breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, best Indian restaurant in town right next door to pub. Good location, central to all amenities in town. Nice beer garden in back.
Floor slanted, to be expected given type of building, but uncomfortable to sit at desk in room to work, room chair height didn’t work with this setup. Could work at table in back garden, though, which was nice in good weather.
Friendly staff and a proper old fashioned bar and a nice modern restaurant.
The parking.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast excellent
Room, curtains were ripped and falling down the light from the high street was very bright, blackout curtains would improve this. As its an old building we weren't surprised that the floors weren't level however I would expect the furniture to be level, I was constantly sliding down to the bottom of the single bed I slept in. Ceiling dusty over the radiator.
Perfect location in the town centre. Good cooked breakfast in clean and pleasant breakfast room. Much better than one would expect for the price which is very affordable and far less than the others in the town. Room made up every day. Comfortable beds. Rooms are above an authentic, unmodernised pub.
Wifi is a bit slow and occasionally not working. Hot water pressure slightly low but adequate. All this is in the context of a very old building that has been refurbished over the centuries without being modernized. Some furnishings were clean but tired. This will not appeal to lovers of perfectly curated boutique hotels.
