Merton Hotel Ipoh

Aircon not cold at all even though it’s at 16 degrees on turbo. No indication at all that room without window.

Staff was very friendly and helpful.

During our recent stay at the Merton Hotel in Ipoh, we encountered several issues that significantly impacted our experience. Unfortunately, the room was quite dirty, with noticeable dust on the floor, under the beds, and around the skirting boards. Additionally, there were cobwebs on the ceiling, which indicated a lack of thorough cleaning. A more alarming issue occurred when the plug point set on fire as we switched on the kettle. This was not only dangerous but also a very frightening situation. When we reported this to the management, their response was inadequate; they simply advised us not to use the plug point and provided another kettle without conducting any further safety checks. Moreover, we misplaced our entry card within the room and were charged 30 Ringgit for its replacement, which we found excessive and frustrating. Overall, while the hotel room was relatively cheap, these significant issues with cleanliness, safety, and customer service marred our stay. If these problems were addressed and the customer service improved, we would have rated the hotel much higher. However, based on our experience, we can only give the Merton Hotel a score of 1 out of 10.

staff all very helpful; the concept of the hotel has a lot of potential and decor fun; it was not clean; the carpet on the first floor was stained and quite dirty; the room itself was quite clean but the bedding; mattress protector was stained and mattress-no protectors on the pillows. lots of potential. next door to the hotel is a fabulous french restaurant and a good chinese restaurant; no atm machine nearby and no laundry facilities.

Room is clean, toilet is probably the highlight with a decent size. Pros: - Bed is abit on the hard side. - Overall the room is very clean. - Decent size toilet. - Hairdryer available in the toilet. Cons: - no tooth brush and toothpaste. - TV only has local channels. - Noise from neighbors - Bed not as comfy for my liking more on the firm side.

the day is reached hotel to check in, the hotel staff told me the room I booked one of the bed is broken and they changed to other room. I am charged RM40 for extra bed which I find it unfair. The bed broken is not my fault. They should have the courtesy to give the extra bed without charges.

Nice place to stay

Decor I would describe as shabby-chic. Staff were friendly and accommodating. You do have to request your room to be cleaned, it is not done automatically. It is a two storey, two-shop-lot hotel. It isn't in the centre of town, 10-15 minute drive to the centre, but close to highway links. Mini mart at the end of the shop lot row is useful. There is also a pub along the same row. There is no breakfast or food facility at this hotel. Our room was big, comfortable, however the bathroom door could not be shut properly...we struggled a few times to get it to close and lock. Without the lock, it would just slide open. Aside from that our room was comfortable.

All thing is very good , just the aircond side , I changed for two rooms both also got big noise from aircond side ,in night time is very disturb during sleeping time

Affordable, convenient and great place to stay for short stay.

The stay was good. Bed was comfy. Aircond function well. Clean room. Good water pressure. I got a room without a window because there was no available room for me to upgrade. So a bit enclosed. Overall a good stay, will consider this hotel again if I were to overnight in Ipoh.

Vintage style. Friendly staff. However, don't stay at far back room at level 1 because around 6 pm until 8 pm would hear 'knocking and walking like sounds' from the above level.

Decorated with English style. The toilet floor however had some mossy.

Merton is an M Hotel pretender but not up to their competitor's standard. Room was ok,bed comfortable,WiFi pathetic,Aircon just ok and TV not worth watching.

Overall is good! The location is around 10mins away from the city. Room is spacious enough, toilet is clean.

We had one night at this hotel. When we entered the receptionist was on the phone and two other staff were behind the counter. We haven't been greeted and stepped inside, the two staff were talking to each others and did as we were not here. We had to wait for the receptionist to be done on the phone. We then checked in and went into our room. As we opened the door the smell was terrible, it was a smell of the bathroom. There were holes in the curtains, it looked dirty and as nobody took care of this room. The common spaces look good as on the pictures but the rooms are disappointing. I will not go back to this hotel any sooner.

The hotel is located at a very good area jusy opposite a breath taking mountain view and very good food just next to it...Very good service from the hotel receiptionists as well...overall a pleasant stay :)

Everything is good, with friendly staffs and the hotel is well kept and design. Amenities are great and the toilet is very good without any problem.

Hotel reception looks great. Booked 3 superior rooms. One got "upgraded". The original rooms were great. The "ugraded" room however while bigger, had bad paint finishing, didnt have the complete amenities like the other rooms. Dont know wat they meant by upgraded but was unimpressed. If the place came with breakfast would be much better. Will come back tho. Maybe.

Clean, friendly & helpful staff

Was couple travel for 2nigts. Overal was good to stay. Location was close to one of the famous attractions(cave with sculptures) but it takes about 10mins to go to ipoh main street, about 13rm. Modern and hip style of decorations. Small room but clean and have one available channel to watch TV, astro. Friendly staff:)

Near town. My standard room is abit small for 2adults and a kid. Bathroom is very basic has signs of wear and tear. Overall, it is a good place to stay for a day or two. Surrounding hotel has restaurants and a nice bar.

Very smelly room. All my cloths carried the same smell and make the car smell as bad as well.

Hotel is aesthetic! Rooms were adequate - beds were comfortable and clean, equipped with toiletries. A mere 5 minutes drive to the Sam Poh Tong temple; 10 minutes to fast food restaurants; 15 minutes to a shopping mall. The neighbourhood was decent - although nothing within walking distance was open before 10am. Something that was a little bit uncomfortable for me was the lack of security. My aunt who lived in Ipoh came to visit and all she did was ask for our room numbers at the counter with our names, and she was given the information. That would be what hinders me from returning to Merton hotel.

Very strategic stay at Ipoh, near to the tourist spots. Convenience to have meal because a few restaurants at the same row.

From the umbrella to pillow cases, the name of the establishment is neatly embroidered on them. One of the best boutique hotels that we have been staying in so far. Attention to details is impeccable. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a stay in Ipoh. 👍👍👍👍
