Wow, what a beautiful place to stay. Thank you Jeanette, you have a stunning property. Absolutely loved the two bed apartment, wonderful sea views, very comfortable, great location. Very special. Would highly recommend.

Got to book the 2 bedroom unit and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset views.

The property was clean and tidy and comfortable. The B&B upstairs looked really nice and would probably be great to stay in.

I booked the apartment anticipating my husband would be able to celebrate his birthday on the balcony peacefully enjoying a beautiful view. This did not happen. The apartment had a sea view but this was over rooftops complete with 2 chimneys and a Sky dish which was not like the photos on Booking.com. There is a large highway at the bottom of the hill behind the building which meant the balcony was very noisy.

Also Jeanette, die Frau die die Lodge betreibt, ist eine super nette Frau. Sie hat glaube ich 4 Zimmer verfügbar in der Lodge die gebucht werden können. Sie fragte mich am Morgen schon was du am nächsten Morgen frühstücken möchtest und fragt auch oft wie es mir geht. Mega gastfreundlich! Ich habe mich mega gefreut hier zu sein! (Du fühlst dich wie zuhause und das ist so schön!) Dazu ist es noch sehr sauber und einfach sehr gut gepflegt das Haus. Ich werde es vermissen!

Lovely host and cosy bed :) good facilities and location

Large clean and bright suite with a beautiful ocean view. Nice to sit on the wrap around deck. Easy walk to the town centre for restaurants and a short drive to some amazing walks along the beach and coastal cliff.

Bed was a little soft for my preference.

Accommodation was exceptional. Very comfortable room with fantastic balcony and unbelievable views. Great location and an excellent breakfast.

You immediately feel at home; the view is stunning, and the room, terrace, and bathroom are all very spacious and beautifully furnished. I would especially like to highlight the host’s exceptional attentiveness. As someone who is lactose and gluten intolerant, I truly appreciated how she thoughtfully tailored the breakfast to suit my dietary needs. She also very kindly drove me to the Mangawhai Cliff Walk and to the bus station, as I was traveling without a car. Thank you very much for such a warm and generous stay!

Wir waren/sind von der Lodge sehr begeistert. Das sehr saubere Zimmer mit Balkon und herrlicher Meersicht war wunderschön. Das Frühstück wurde mit viel Liebe von der Gastgeberin Janette zubereitet und war sehr gut!!! Die tolle Beach erreicht man in wenigen Minuten mit dem Auto und lockt mit ausgedehnten Strandspaziergängen! Wir können „Mangawhai Lodge“ allen Reisenden BESTENS Weiterempfehlen!!!

Jeannette was such an amazing host, and a wealth of knowledge when it came to local scenes & sights. The view from the top floor is nothing short of breath-taking. My wife & I loved our time here and would stay again.

The weather!

The view from the room was excellent with a lovely balcony which looks over to the ocean. The room was comfortable but not particularly spacious. The hostess Jeannette was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay

We did not dislike anything but perhaps if the lodge was slightly closer to the beach this would improve the overall rating

Our Host Jeanette was fantastic and nothing was to much trouble for her, she was extremely knowledgeable about the area, the room was immaculately clean, the view from fromt he veranda was picture postcard and to cap it off the Breakfast was truly splendid!!

I reviewed this already with the first 2-day booking. This was the best stay we had during our entire two-week NZ trip!!!! So comfortable and accommodating! Fantastic breakfast!

The lodge is a lovely welcoming home with beautiful views of the ocean. Excellent host, who truly takes care of guests with yummy breakfast and interesting conversation. The place is sparkling clean and very comfortable. Close to amenities and great swimming spots and white sand beaches.

Driveway was a bit narrow but we were cautious negotiating it

Absolutely loved this place!! The Beachcomber room was so comfortable, even if it was the smaller room. Very smartly outfitted! Nightstands and lamps on each side of bed, plenty of outlets, place to put two suitcases plus a chair, shelf unit for items and hanging clothes. Pedestal sink had a 2-shelf unit next to it for toiletries. Very nice shower/toilet bathroom. Jeannette is an excellent host! She offered suggestions of things to see and places to eat. Even offered to do our laundry on our third evening! Delicious breakfast - continental or full hot breakfast and nice to talk to in the mornings! The view from our room was spectacular and really enjoyed that! Nice living room to hang out in during the evenings and with great views also.

Lovely place, beautiful views of the Estuary, nicely positioned for sunrise and sunset. It was very cold weather but heaters in the rooms and electric blankets so cosy. Very clean and spacious. Easy walk to town and takeaways from the Thai at the Golf course. We loved our stay.

We had a very comfortable stay in a lovely room with a view out over the water. I was struck by how beautifully clean the whole premises were. The cooked breakfast was provided very promptly and was delicious. The proprietor, Jeanette, was delightful company and also gave us good advice on local restaurants for dinner.

Fantastic location in an elevated position overlooking the bay. Wrap around balcony was a delight to sit out on and enjoy the stunning view. We had the Beachcomber room which was delightful! Comfortable, well equipped and homely. Small shower room with a sink in the main bedroom, perfectly adequate. Breakfast was continental by choice. Cooked breakfast was available to us, but we choose not to. Lovely selection of fruit, cereals and toast was exactly what we wanted. Jeanette is a great host and cannot do enough for you. Highly recommend this place for a short stay whilst visiting Mangawhai and the surrounding area.

Stayed a couple of nights, the lady who runs it is lovely, very helpful and knowledgable about the area. It’s very clean and has all amenities.

The lodge was a splendid place to stay on our wonderful trip to Mangawhai and the surrounding districts. Jeannette was friendly and helpful, and seemed happy to accommodate any requests and to offer local knowledge. The restaurant she recommended was great. The views from the lodge are gorgeous, and we enjoyed the breakfast.

We liked everything.....one small thought would be that I found out on the day we left that there are beach chairs and a 'boogie board' that can be borrowed - it would have been handy to know that the day before.

Jeannette was an excellent host. Breakfast was great as was the accommodation. Jeannette kept everything so clean and tidy and was a font of local knowledge. She made us very welcome.

The weather which was out of everyone’s hands.

Bed was comfortable, apartment was spotlessly clean, all the amenities we needed were at hand and we really enjoyed our stay here.

The only criticism I would have is there is no air-conditioning and it was quite warm at night. Fans were provided which helped but a/c would have been nice.

We had a lovely stay at Mangawhai Lodge. It's located at the top of a hill and has outstanding views. Jeanette our host was absolutely lovely and made it feel like we were staying with family. Breakfast was fantastic and freshly cooked each day with the choice of continental with yummy fresh fruit salad as an added bonus or a eggs, bacon and such. The lodge is not right in town center, but it's a short 15 walk to get to the cafes and restaurants. It's also within 10 to 1 hour drive to many awesome experiences and places. So you can see beautiful beaches and go surfing near by, do walking routes and explore cliffs, forrest and waterfalls or even a little city life in Whangarei.

Jeanette was exceptionally organised making a delicious breakfast each morning. The view from the lodge was exceptional. We enjoyed the quiet surroundings.

The great joy for us was Jeanette herself. A gracious lady whose travels and resulting adornments in her home/Bed & Breakfast accommodation an absolute delight. Cleanliness was highest standard, and Jeanette a pleasure to meet. Although Mangawhai Lodge us not close to the beach the view is stunning. I spent a lot of hours just breathing and taking it in. You are fortunate to have that lady & her accommodation on your books.

Jeanette was a wonderful hostess. The apartment was extremely well- equipped ( with even a larger refrigerator) and well-laid out, with a wrap-around verandah with lovely views looking into town and out to sea.

Wonderful large seaview room with the balcony & Jeanette's little touches. The lounge / breakfast room is lovely & it's in a great location for evening meals.

Tight for parking but managed ok. Could hear people walking upstairs as an older home not too good in the middle of the night but we have stayed at others worse.

Lovely and quiet location with beautiful outlook across the estuary and sandbar. Plenty of space for 4 of us.

Jeannette welcomed us with warm hospitality, making our stay very comfortable and pleasant. We stayed in the Skipper Room, and while the bathroom was across the hall, it was private and did not bother us. The wrap-around balcony offered lovely views of the bay, and we thoroughly enjoyed an evening tea with friends. The entire house was beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating a cozy and homey atmosphere. Jeannette is an exceptional host who genuinely cares about her guests. She prepared a freshly cooked, excellent breakfast and shared plenty of helpful advice for our trip. Despite a rainy day, we managed to enjoy the Mangawhai Cliff Trail, conveniently located just a five-minute drive from the lodge. Highly recommended for its convenience, the host's exceptional hospitality, and overall comfort!

The room and bathroom were very clean and cozy! And, Jeanette is the most amazing host! She made me feel right at home and on top of that, she has a wealth of knowledge and was very helpful as I was planning my travels. I would recommend this place to others!

Depending on the unit you book, you will have a nice view of the ocean and the islands. The self-catering apartment we booked was sufficiently equipped, and we loved the French press coffee makers. Mangawhai is a sleepy town. There is not a lot of nightlife, but we were there for golf on good weather days and for museums on rainy days,. The location was a good fit for our stay.

This is a beautiful place to stay with stunning views across the bay if you book a balcony room. Jeanette was excellent and very helpful when our flight was considerably delayed so we didn't arrive until very late. The breakfasts were lovely with plenty of choice. A very nice old colonial style building and the room had tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. All in all I'd highly recommend staying here.
