Swaynekloof Farm

Everything, I love nature/farms so this was paradise to me. I have been twice now, a few years apart and two different seasons (summer vs winter) and loved both experiences. It borders on a nature reserve which you can walk up to (bit steep in the beginning but a lovely hike after the initial bit which you can drive up). Listening to the crackle of the fire in the evening and the rain falling mixed in with the roars (of lions) from the neighboring nature sanctuary... Pure bliss. The accommodation I would describe as classy rustic, with all the creature comforts (lovely linen and anything you could really think to need). Its a simple, wonderful place to stay and I will definitely be coming back again.

Lovely neat spacious chalet with everything you need. Even electric blankets on the beds. Appreciated the fresh water & firewood too😊 Lea is a wonderful, friendly caring host & made us feel at home. Lovely views of the area from inside & outside. Sounds of the lions on the farm next door was also amazing. We will definately be back one day, we never got to explore the reserve area walks as it rained. Very good value for money.

Lea is a fabulous, caring host and makes you feel at home. The facility is basic, exactly what you expect of a river cabin, but very functional. The tranquility, beauty and ambiance cannot be bought. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone that wants to spend time in nature, away from the ordinary day-to-day city life

The weather could have been better, which would have allowed time to explore the farm!!

We stayed in the Heritage cottage. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and quaint. The farm and nature reserve are beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. The hosts, Lea and Guy are friendly and welcoming. We had a perfect weekend stay on this working farm.

Nothing comes to mind. I wouldn't change anything. The accomodation and venue exceeded our expectations.

The view was awesome and the children enjoyed walking down the river. Lea was a great host and made us feel right at home. It was by far one of our best getaways. Will definitely recommend.

Loved the scenery, enjoyed walks on the reserve and seeing the animals. Cottage was clean, electric blanket and thick fluffy blanket was perfect to keep us warm at night. I also enjoyed the fireplace and liked the cottage decor.

This is such a gem of a place. Lovely comfortable and clean cottage with everything you need. With a 2 beautiful areas to sit outside with lovely views over the valley. Great value for money.

The double bed was a bit uncomfortable. Needs replacing.

The beauty and serenity of the location, and simplicity of the setting. I enjoyed having limited connectivity and rarely used the WiFi. The garden was incredibly well maintained and my dog had a blast running around. I loved the braai area and the protected hiking path was a welcome surprise for me as a solo female traveller. I had everything I needed on the farm. It was absolutely wonderful.

I knew there would be bats around the cabin, but i didn't realise that they slept underneath the floor boards in within the cabin walls (or between the structure and the facade). The bats would sqeak and scurry about at night, which was unnerving until i got used to them.

I rented Swaynehuis and Green Cottage for my family. Both units were comfortable and well equipped. I stayed in Swaynehuis (main house) and every little need was accommodated for. Lea (our hostess) was super attentive from the time of booking and throughout our stay. The farm is gorgeous and tranquil. The main house is clean, spacious and beautiful with a private swimming pool. The best for me, was that our furkids were welcome and our 2 Jack Russell babies, enjoyed every moment!We can't wait to visit again in Summer! Thank you Lea and Team for an amazing experience and phenomenal stay at your farm!

There was nothing we didn't like, but I would like to recommend khoi khoi woodfired hot tubs at the units especially during the Winter months...that would truly elevate the experience! Hot tubs coupled with those views would be absolute top shelf!

There is nothing not to like...

Ruhige Lage - schön gelegen. Wir waren im Bungalow... einfach eingerichtet aber sehr sauber. Lea war eine tolle Gastgeberin. Die Wanderung im Naturschutzgebiet der Farm war sensationell. Wir sahen Zebras, einmal an der Futterstelle, das andere mal auf dem Weg zurück zur Farm. Die Anfahrt ist kein Problem. Fazit.... zwei tolle Tage, der Abstecher hat sich gelohnt. Immer wieder gerne!

Great location, not too far from Cape Town and close to a few nice wine farms. The house is beautifully renovated and very comfortable. 2 fridges and very equipped kitchen. The outside area with braai and pool was so lovely for lunch and dinner. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

De ligging was geweldig , het mooie en grote, smaakvol ingerichte huis was prachtig en van alle gemakken voorzien. De eigenaren, Lea & Guy waren zo lief en behulpzaam. Echt ongelofelijk. We vonden het jammer om weer weg te gaan .

The host was very helpful and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay, the farm is beautiful!

The space was extremely spacious and so well thoughtout. All the finishing touches made the experience to the comfortabel beds, cotton bedding, soft pillows, amazing lounge couches, loungers by the pool, dinning tables big enough for the whole family inside and by the braai and all beautifully decorated. The kitchen was incredible, stunning finishing touches, extremely well equipped, it really is plug and play. The house has fans for each room to help out on hot summer nights and days, as well as an indoor fire place for a cozy winter stay. The hosts provided lots of insect repellent, including cooking nets and spinners to keep flies off your food, again, really thought out and intended for the most comfortable stay. The hosts were incredible, we had a few requests which they were more than happy to accommodate without complaint and gave us a tour of the farm. All cottages are newly renovated and you can really feel the love put into them.

It was the most ideal location for some time alone. Peaceful and beautiful. Lea and Guy are wonderful hosts. The accomodation is simple and cosy and clean and has everything you could possibly need.

The only thing I didn't like was leaving

The pictures doesn't do this place justice. It is so gorgeous! And a great location. The farm is beautiful and so quiet. I stayed for a week, and parked my car and only got back in when I left. But there is plenty to do in the area if you want. Long walking trails in the beautiful reserve area is a must. Lea is a wonderful host and I immediately felt like part of the family :) I could stay in the Traditional cottage forever if that was even an option! And very tastefully decorated. I will most definitely be back.

This review is for the River Cabin: Lea is a wonderful host who made us feel at home instantly. The River Cabin is as described. It is simple and rustic but has everything you need. My partner and I loved it. It is very peaceful. We enjoyed watching the horses from the neighboring farm. In the evening the bats fly around (keep your window's closed when you don't want them inside). Lea provided fans, which were needed as we stayed during a hot week. Next door is a animal encounter farm with rescue animals. So you can hear lions roar at night. You can also book a guided tour with them, which we recommend. The farm has a big nature reserve where you can go for walks and swim in the dam. If you are lucky some wild Zebras will be grassing near the dam (especially late afternoon). To get to the farm you will have to drive on a dirt road. The river was easy to cross (we stayed during the hot season, so the river barely had any water). Botriver is a small town with a really nice pub at the train station.

Wonderful farm visit with our dogs. There is plenty to do on the farm including long walks into the nature reserve behind. All the details on arrival were very clear and the unit was tastefully decorated and thoughtful details made our stay comfortable.

Absolutely beautiful home ! Located just far enough away from Cape Town. The perfect getaway place. I will ABSOLUTELY be back ! The owners and staff even ended up helping us when we had some car trouble. They were always tending to our needs. I cannot thank Lea, her family and the staff enough! Please check it out.

Dirt roads were a bit a tough chew at first but the farm is so worth it!

We stayed in the green cottage, it was very comfortable and clean. The reserve on the farm was amazing for walks in nature and seeing the Zebras up close was a real treat. There is lots to do in close proximity of the farm. Wine tastings, animal encounters, even the beach is only 30mins drive away. Botrivier is a real Gem.

We liked the fact that Swaynekloof is a little off the 'beaten track' . Our VW Polo was fine on the unmade road approach from Botrivier . A little more care needed for the last 300 metres. We stayed in Heritage Cottage. This is a characterful cottage converted beautifully from a farm workers cottage without losing its historic features. It's slightly wonky floors and doors add to its charm. It is blissful to sit on the veranda and gaze at the view and watch the sunset. The cottage had been thoughtfully prepared with everything we needed and Lea and Guy made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. We did a food shop for our stay before we arrived and there is a decent sized fridge freezer. There is a small but fairly well stocked supermarket in Botrivier. We walked on their Swaynekloof's own reserve and saw 6 zebras. We visited the amazing Cornellskopf Animal Encounters, which is so close that you can hear one of the lions having his evening roar. We had a lovely meal in Botrivier at Manny's Restaurant , and visited Hermanus. If you like a rustic base , truly out in the country but not a long drive to towns and tourist attractions this is a gem. We loved it.

Road in front of the cabin quite busy, which was a worry with our dogs roaming.

Overall, it was an amazing place and loved the nature surroundings. The Tranquility loved it. The staff and host Colleen were very friendly and great hosts.

Due to the nature surrounding there are lots of flies so would recommend taking some fly catchers with.

Absolutely beautiful location. Peaceful and quiet. Accommodation was perfect, fully equipped kitchen and nice bathroom. Shady parking. Even better its pet friendly, dogs had a splendid time. Thanks so much to Peter and Colleen, we even had a night longer stay because we didn't want to leave! Absolutely will be back, highly recommended for anyone wanting a peaceful holiday or weekend away out of the city.

Less than 2 hours drive from Cape Town. It is pet friendly. It has that rustic farm feel to it.

The location was beautiful, just be advised that the road leading to the place is all gravel, so be sure that your car that handle it.

Driveways a bit tricky

The property is a nice farm with very nice hosts and comfortable areas. It was a typical farm experience. The hosts kept me updated on loadshedding /weather, etc and anything else that we should be aware of.

The flies :) but if you chose to stay on a farm, you should expect it.

We liked the outdoor patio with lounge beds. We liked the view and the location. The kitchen was well equipped. The interior is homely decorated.

The bathroom was very basic and it was difficult to have the right temperature in the shower. The beds looked lovely, but the mattress was not comfortable.

was very peaceful on the farm, so many birds and sounds all around, really makes you feel part of nature, and the fact that they are fixing the gravel road in is a huge plus.

driveway to the unit is a tad narrow, so making turning around a tad difficult as my car is low so could not really drive onto the grass section at the end of the drive .. reversing skills were at 100% :)

The view from the patio could have been nice if I didn’t have to cross a leaking grey water pipe to reach it.

The check-in was a horror, the property was not as advertised. We booked the two bedroom chalet, but to enter the second bedroom you have to exit the unit, go outside, before you can enter.

Everything was perfect. I could relax in the beautiful and sought-after place. The connection with nature was all we needed. Thank you to the host ☺️ the perfect weekend away Thank you to the owner will be a weekend to remember for sure...waking up with the sounds of birds . No words can describe.

Unfortunately when we went there it was raining and the river was flowing over the road that led to the farm. Also the road was a bit slippery. Fortunately Pete guided us through. Was an experience we will not forget quickly.

We had a fantastic few days. Wonderful hosts were Peter and Colleen. Peter was very knowledgeable and more than happy to share the local history with my boys and I. Walking through his reserve was a real treat. We will stay over when next in the area.
