Lovely room, clean and comfortable, good breakfast. Dog friendly.
Can't complain about anything really
Great venue, great food. Helpful, friendly staff
No soft close toilet seat A few scruffy bits, broken mirror, missing curtain holder.
The house has been recently renovated and our room was beautiful with lots of attention to details. It is a very dog friendly place with nice areas to go for a walk close by.
The restaurant was understaffed during our stay, which was noticeable all over the place due to long waiting times, tables not cleaned up etc. Most of the staff was very friendly and forthcoming, but unfortunately not all of them.
Great hotel with really nice pub too. Cooked breakfast was delicious. 10 minute walk into the lovely town of Emsworth, we had a great time.
Attractive and welcoming
The hallway to our bedroom looked a bit scruffy
Staff were very nice.
High room price relative to other better hotels. Very bad water pressure - the lack of water coming from the rain shower was almost comical. Menu-order only breakfast very slow to arrive.
size and location
the boiler stopped working so no hot water
Didn't have breakfast ,.when I booked I thought continental breakfast was included. However this was not the case. Thought the price was high with that in mind .
Booked a twin room , was given a large double instead. Very noisy, and woken at 5am by refuse collection taking place under the bedroom window.
We thought breakfast was included, because of Booking.com's presentation.
The staff are very friendly
The whole experience was excellent.
Everything! Charming bedroom with air- conditioning unit which was hugely appreciated. Soft, fluffy towels in the bathroom. Tasty breakfasts. Pleasant, helpful staff.
Nothing to dislike.
The room was very hot, no window to open only patio doors. There was a fan in the room but it really didn’t help.
Lovely room & bathroom. Very effective aircon which was much needed. Lovely evening meal both nights.
Great accommodation and really friendly and accommodating staff. The room decor was very much in keeping with the overall look and feel, fab. Lovely touch to have the welcome goodies in the room. On-site car parking a bonus. We had a meal of fish and chips, served with homemade tartare sauce and minted smashed peas - on the recommendation of the front of house manager - which was yummy scrummy.
The only downside was the fact that there was no air conditioning; there was a small mobile unit in the room but it really was working very hard to try and get the extraordinary temperature in the room down :(
This is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are all done so beautifully and seem newly decorated (not sure if they are) but they are very cosy and inviting. Our room was a good size, nice bathroom, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities etc and sweet treats for us on arrival - lovely touch. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious - I can recommend the duck. Breakfast was also excellent: not a buffet - it was off the menu - but delicious and plenty of choices. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The bar area is lovely and there was live music one night. Cocktails are very good! Air conditioner unit in our room was a Godsend (but there wasn't one in the single room my mother booked as it wasn't the right configuration to get the pipe out of the window - she had a fan). The rooms are all done so beautifully.
Air conditioner in the small room would have been good as it was very hot in there. It's worth checking when you book. But otherwise - can't fault it.
From the moment you checked in, the staff were friendly and informative. We had a dog with us, and there was Treats' bed and a drinking dish in the room. We had dinner there again in the evening, and the staff went through the menu in detail for any dish we asked about.
The property managed to upgrade my parents to a super comfy room for just a little extra charge and when I spoke with the staff about my mother and her accessibility issues they were great to accommodate! Had a lovely walk in shower which really helped her.
Not much!
.
Attractive property, restaurant, bar & room all decorated to high standard. Air conditioning unit put in rooms, it was needed. Welcome tray of mini sweet bites, nice touch. Large garden to sit outside, restaurant seemed very popular with non residents. Can walk to Emsworth harbour/town centre, really lovely walk and good views.
Not being able to select more than one thing at breakfast, it was cooked option or yoghurt/fruit/cereal - we like both! The happy hour restricted you to two of the same drink and the choice was limited - only 2 cocktails included of which we didn’t both want either.
Excellent facilities comfy room good food choices. Great location for Goodwood Racecourse
The drinks were a little pricey
The room was very well presented, air conditioned by a portable unit (quite appropriate given the recent heat wave). Nice touches included the sweet platter, the handwritten greeting note, and the radio quietly playing classical music as we entered the room. Breakfast choices were good, the flexibility to move within the menu choices was appreciated, and waiter/waitress service is a nice touch where many a hotel has a free-for-all cafeteria for breakfast.
Everything about the experience was effortless just as it should be.
Not a sufficiently amount of bar staff working at peak times
The food was great quay
The room was too hot, the fan needed to be on at all times. That made it hard to sleep
Beautiful, spacious, clean, gorgeous design. Lots of places to sit and eat or drink. Lovely outside space including cabins.
The staff were fantastic and very helpful. The food was also excellent.
We were in room 11 and the WiFi was either non existent or so slow it was unusable. The room was great but the walkway to the rooms was shabby and dirty with a water leak in the floor.
Ideal location for my visit. Helpful and polite staff.

A lovely stay - fabulous staff and dinner was delicious - thank you
Liked everything
Good location; easy and free parking; beautifully furnished; cozy and comfy room.
Nothing.
The bed was super comfy
Nothing to fault
Great location, parking, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good restaurant and choice of menu.
Fire doors being left open to bypass the secure entry/exit system to customers rooms.
Top class. Bottled water provided, also Yorkshire Gold Tea bags! Brilliant.
Fixed shower head. poor lighting - make-up needs good light directed at the face
Very well placed for a quick Transfer to the ferry in Portsmouth. Very confortable bed.
Room was very hot. The only window opened onto the Garden of the bar/restaurant which was very busy and noisy. The air conditioning unit was a portable contraption with a corrugated tube that had to be passed out of the window - see previous comment about noise in the garden!
It had air conditioning in all the rooms. That was great as it was so hot.
Nothing.
Location. Rooms were comfortable & on a very hot day it was great to have a mobile air con unit

The staff were extremely helpful and moved us to a larger room. However the bed layout was exactly the same.
The room was very small. The bed was against the wall and the person on the inside edge had to climb over the other person to get out of bed. The shower pressure was just a dribble.
From arriving we were impressed by the look and feel of the place. Nice welcome, excellent room and generally great service throughout.
No complaints at all
The staff the hotel everything was just perfect. I loved the welcome note left in the room and everything for the dog too
Reception staff great
Noisy kitchen staff all though the night!
Dinner was really nice - Great restaurant! And rooms are really beautifully decorated and furnished. I loved the little petit fours that they leave in your room on arrival. Such a sweet little touch!
I had a VERY noisy neighbour who decided that he would shout down the phone for an hour or so at 1am... not in any way the fault of the hotel, but perhaps the walls are a bit thin.
Room was gorgeous and huge, it was very clean and tidy. Staff were lovely and food was fantastic, we went to a wedding reception there and it was incredible
The staff were lovely but there was a few mistakes on the food for the reception that was pre ordered, breakfast orders that were forgotten and they hadn't communicated the wedding reception plan amongst the staff so a bit more stressful than needed but all worked out okay
Always a pleasure to stay here. The rooms are lovely, the food is great and the staff are wonderful.
I stayed for one night hoping for a quiet break and, unfortunately, this wasn’t the experience I had. Starting with the positives: the hotel itself is beautifully designed. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the decor and overall aesthetic, and visually it’s a really lovely space. Breakfast was also excellent and one of the highlights of my stay. However, there were several issues that meant I left feeling disappointed overall. The biggest issue was noise. My room was located directly above the restaurant/social area and there was also a wedding taking place during my stay. From the moment I checked in at 3pm, there was noticeable noise coming from the restaurant and outdoor area, alongside a constant background noise that sounded like ventilation or an extraction/air-conditioning system. I contacted reception shortly after check-in to ask whether it would be possible to move to a quieter room further away from the noise. I was told that they were “nearly completely booked up,” but I wasn’t offered an alternative, information about whether another room may become available later, or any attempt to explore options. That was disappointing, especially as I raised the issue immediately rather than after staying the night. The noise continued into the evening. People/social noise reduced around 11:30pm–midnight, but I still found it difficult to settle because of the ongoing background mechanical noise. I ended up leaving the hotel for much of the evening and only returned around 10:30pm in the hope that things would quieten down. To sleep, I had to use both a fan and the TV to mask the sound and didn’t get to sleep until around 1am. Music/noise then started again from around 7am the following morning, so overall it wasn’t the restful stay I had booked. The room itself was also significantly smaller than expected from the photographs. Size wasn’t my main concern, but it contributed to feeling uncomfortable.
Noted above
The customer service
Quite far out of town
When I arrived I was informed I had received a free upgrade. The room was immaculate, beautifully furnished, comfortable, spacious and welcoming. The milk was in small bottles, and there was a proper coffee maker, a range of quality teas, and a really thoughtful gift of three small sweets/tiny deserts, which was unexpected and very welcome.
it was all wonderful in the room. There is nothing in the room that I did not like. The staff were wonderful too.
The place was lovely and modern.
We had an issues with temperature of the bedrom. Was way too hot and it would not cool even during the night. We stayed during a very hot weather. Fan was provided, no aircon. But cerain things could be done - like closing wibdows, curtains in the morning to let less heat inside the bedroom, which was not done.
It was really clean, well presented, and very dog friendly
Unfortunately the rooms were EXTREMELY hot- there was no air conditioning and the window only opened a few inches. Fans were provided, but it was borderline whether we could stay with our dog as the temperature in the room nearly made it unsafe to do so.
Comfortable room and bar. We didn’t eat at the hotel, so can’t comment on food.
Nothing
Room extremely clean and beautifully decorated and staff really pleasant and helpful it’s just unfortunate that there was no air con in the rooms.
I know we visited at the time when we were experiencing the unusually and extremely 🥵 hot weather BUT! the room was unbearably hot and uncomfortable. A fan was in place but wasn’t much help unfortunately. I feel that the Rope Makers really need to install air conditioning!
The facilities were great, the rooms well decorated and maintained.
The smell of the toilets in the communal hallway.
Great location, well presented and great facilities
The TB remote was susceptible and didn’t work well but enough for the length of stay. Room was hit due to heatwave but the placement of a fan in the room made a huge difference
Breakfast very good, room was also good.
Getting a parking ticket for 99.00 pounds from the car hire company + admin charge for parking at the Hotel car park !!!! it was not even mentioned if I had a car at check in, very poor.
So well run and attention to detail
All was good
This is a fantastic little hotel and pub. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with great in room facilities for humans and dogs. Staff are warm, welcoming and very helpful. Menu was nicely varied
Nothing
The room was amazing and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was great and staff were all very helpful
Nothing!
Pleasant rooms, decent bar, nice staff, a good pub with rooms. I didn't eat so can't comment, but I had a beer in the bar and it was busy and lively.
Nothing
The staff are lovely, the room we stayed in was great - it was clean and there was lovely attention to detail.
I have stayed here once before last year around the same time - the weather then was really warm, so I put the temperature of the room down to the weather outside. This year, it was a lot cooler (15 degrees be 25 degrees), but the room was still boiling. If the rooms had AC, then I would continue to return happily, but two years in a row I have slept really badly, so I don’t think I can return again. My partner also found it way too hot to sleep unfortunately.
Dinner was excellent. Breakfast - the tomatoes were the tastiest.
The staff was really friendly and helpful.
Our room was not clean properly the days we were there
Great staff and service we really enjoyed our stay
The only thing was they got our room beds wrong we asked for a double and were given two singles.
Superb, cosy room design, spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed - loved it. Very helpful and welcoming staff.

Comfortable room, outstanding restaurant and great location.
Housekeeping could be a bit more methodical
Really great place to stay Good food and a great welcome
Prices of drinks were very high
Our room was lovely & cosy & the bar & restaurant were very nice.
The staff were fabulous, they couldn’t do enough to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. They had live music which was great.
The room was very comfortable snd extremely good value however we were on the first floor which was too warm. We spoke to a member of staff regarding this, he said he was aware and trying to rectify the situation. He very kindly offered a free breakfast. We were not looking for anything free but we did have a lovely breakfast. We would be very happy to stay here again.
You are always made to feel welcome and all the staff will do anything for you. The choice of drink and food was amazing. At night it so peaceful, but well located to main link roads and bus routes (just out side).
The bath panel in room 8 needs a bit of up grade and the bed was like sleeping on a plank of wood. Would recommend some mattress toppers on request.
I absolutely loved my dog treats, dog bed and bowls ready for my pooch! I have never travelled with a dog, so seeing these bits made me feel relaxed that if he barked no one would mind! The room decor is beautiful, I was surprised how nice it was for the £85 price tag per night. Bed was super comfy and nice shower. Thank you for my treats, too! I don’t usually write reviews but I genuinely loved my one night solo (ish!) stay!
really friendly staff, nothing was to much trouble. A really good menu, with some different items that were simple but well prepared - very enjoyable
We were pleased at how good the Ropemaker is, everything, room, staff, food was very good.
A shaver point in the bathroom and a light over the bathroom mirror.
Friendly and welcoming staff who did their best to accomodate our wishes. Very comfortable and well appointed room and bathroom, plus nice toiletries!
Cooking smells in the bar was the only downside.
Good location, room clean and comfortable, friendly and helpful staff and a very nice breakfast
No late snacks and carpets in general areas could do with good clean
Location and restaurant
Bathroom lighting awful - bad design No light to shave or do makeup Car parking is not adequate
Geweldig pand en heerlijk eten
Fabulous place, staff were lovely and the room was spacious and extremely comfortable
We took our dog and whilst there is a garden there are no poo bins. A bin would be very useful and would prevent people from leaving piles of full dog poo bags
Clean, tidy, excellent service and the complimentary sweet treats were to die for! I’ll definitely be coming back in the future!
Love the food the staff and the location. The rooms are amazing perfect for our stay it's our 2nd time as The RopeMaker. We used to come before.
We got a garden facing room this Easter weekend and we were very disappointed that from before lunch until almost 10pm at night music from the pub/restaurant could be heard in our room. We went out and come back for the evening to relax and the music was still audible. The website states a relaxing stay which was not the case. We love the place and live music fine as it's advertised but constant background pub music that can be heard even if Windows are closed not acceptable. It was warm so the doors were left open to the garden. I think people should be made aware if this is pub policy to have music playing all day.We will come back but will be requesting quieter room facing the other way.
The staff were incredibly helpful, the rooms were beautifully decorated and spacious and the facilities were 10/10. We travelled with two dogs and everything was completely faultless.
Faultless. Incredible stay and went well beyond expectations which is very rare. A true gem. Highly highly recommended. Free upgrade on arrival too, huge thanks for that kindness too.
Nothing, it was perfect!
Close to Emsworth harbour
It's a very busy pub
Very clean and tidy. Very cosy room. Staff were brilliant and food was amazing.
Room was lovely - although shower water slow to warm up! Very comfortable bed - v important! Didn't stop for breakfast but dinner was excellent. Staff all very welcoming
I really loved the the music playing in the room as you arrive with dimmed lights and hand-written welcome note. That was really lovely and more than you'd get in some excellent hotels.
Nothing I'd care to note.
Excellent value and comfortable
Nothing
Room nice and comfy. Bed extremely comfortable, wanted to take it home with me😉 Staff very friendly
We been given the wrong room but that wasn’t a huge issue . We been offered a little discount instead and we were happy about it .
The bed was really comfy and slept very well and accomodating staff.
Breakfast good, dinner good. Room not so good.
I didn’t like being given a room designed for a person in a wheelchair/ disabled.
Room 5 was lovely. No heating in the room but that was ok. Room 6 was lovely and very warm with nice patio doors to sit outside. Breakfast the second day was second to none - absolutely wonderful. The Roast dinner on the second day was absolutely wonderful too.
Room 5 could have done with another chair as the bench a bit uncomfortable to site on. No heating in the room but that was ok. Could have done with more toilet roll in the room on day two. Breakfast was not so nice on the first day, the sourdough bread was very hard and could not be eaten. Dinner on day on was Chateau Brianne - very expensive for two pots of chips, half as tomato each with couple cloves of garlic in one and a pot of sauce which we were supposed to share and was tiny.
Breakfast by order!., we had not paid in advance as were aware of this system. The room was superb. Could not be bettered. Also had evening meal. It got quite busy while we were there. The staff were lovely and friendly. We were delighted to be close to bus stops with very regular service to Chichester or Portsmouth. A train station in Emsworth which is a couple or so stops from the Ropemaker. A lovely garden to sit with a pot of tea.
Room….no hot water for shower prior to evening meal or early morning hand wash. Very hot later. Mentioned before we left after just one night. Scrambled egg with chopped chives was very nice but just one slice of thin white toast?? Evening meal was amusing to us as we struggled with the menu and French (?) culinary terms. We do not watch foodie programmes.
Very clean and well looked after
