Sugar Marina Hotel - Cliffhanger - Aonang

Very accessible to the town - really nice rooms had 2 queen beds and a lovely balcony Didn’t need the staff much but they were always happy and friendly and room cleaned amazingly well after it got quite messy - thank you *pray* Would recommend for staying in comfort and with good amenities close to centre of ao nang - lock it in!

The room was lovely and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is located on top of a hill but very close to all attractions in Al Nang. A lot of restaurants nearby. The pool was very lovely. The hallway smelled a bit musty but it was so humid in Ao Nang so likely the cause. The room was clean and nice.

Nice hotel within easy walk of Ao Nang beach. It’s on the main street leading to the beach so near lots of restaurants, bars and shops but still pretty quiet (even the rooms on the road). There are 2 nice pools and great views from the deluxe rooms in the main building. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are really good size and clean

Well equipped rooms with all you need, but a bit small. Our room had two double beds. We used one for our suitcases, but felt that one would suffice. The breakfasts can become monotonous after a day or three, but was not bad. Pool access rooms are great to have. The guests staying from floor two upwards also use the same pools as the pool access rooms, leaving you feel less private. One moron from the second floor kept throwing his dead cigarette butts into the pools. Disgusting!! Very friendly staff members. Our stay of 5 days were well enjoyed beside the one or two issues and we can still recommend.

Great service and really friendly staff especially Hunna made us feel very welcome. The room was ready before general check in time which was amazing as we could rest after our flight and go sightseeing straightaway. Very much recommended.

Very nice hotel, pool mountain view, good location and friendly staff especially Khun Sang, who greeted us with a big smile. At one point, she taught we were Thai, and we tried to speak the language and kind enough to speak slowly and clearly to be able to understand each other. I highly recommend this hotel you’ve got everything you need, loads of restaurants, clinic, pharmacy and bars. Not to mention, the vibes are wholesome.

Hanna & Nui at reception were wonderful and so kinda, they helped me sort an issue I was having. Great hotel highly recommend, everything is clean and modern, pool is wet and they have beautiful views. If you are in the area this is a great place for anyone.

After a few days in Bangkok it was great to swop out walking boots for sandals. The hotel staff were very inviting when we arrived . The room and the view from it both had the "Wow!" factor. A massive bed , fantastic interior design and a massive balcony to admire the view of the cliffs and sea (in the distance) . The beach and town was close enough to walk to . Its downhill going but a bit of a trek walking back after an exhausting day, so we get a tut tut back. The dining area was really smart and the decor modern and interesting. Fantastic breakfast and a brilliant choice was on offer. Loved the cashews nuts. The pools were cool at first but warmed up during the day witht the sun shine.

For the price there are better options. It wasn’t bad but I didn’t like that it was spread out over 3 buildings

Great location, about a 13 minute walk to the beach, close to bars and restaurants but far enough away so it wasn’t noisy all day and night. Clean rooms, lots of storage space so your things aren’t laying around everywhere. Pillows were not the best, but they never are at hotels. We had a room with a pool walkout which was great for an afternoon or late night swim. Also, the view from our patio was pretty beautiful with the cliff in the background. Staff was friendly and always willing to help. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at Sugar Marina Cliffhanger Krabi for our babymoon and had an extremely unpleasant experience that left us feeling unsafe, stressed, and completely let down. Despite clearly informing the hotel in advance that we were a pregnant couple celebrating a special occasion, not a single basic expectation was met. From the moment we arrived, the lack of hospitality was glaring. There was no bellboy to assist us with our luggage—even though the entrance involved a slope that was particularly difficult to navigate while carrying bags. We had to manage everything ourselves with zero support from the hotel staff. The property also felt completely unsafe. There was no visible security presence. On one of the nights, we were woken up around 3 AM by loud, aggressive neighbors who were banging doors and shouting. We felt extremely vulnerable and disturbed. We immediately tried to contact the reception, but no one answered the phone—multiple times. When we reported this the next morning, not only was the staff dismissive and rude, but instead of showing any empathy or taking responsibility, they had the audacity to ask us to check out, despite us being willing to pay extra for a late check-out to catch up on sleep. The room itself was in poor condition. The charger sockets didn’t work, making it difficult to charge our phones or devices. The toilet seat was broken, which is unacceptable in any hotel, let alone one that claims to cater to tourists. Throughout our stay, there was absolutely no assistance or sense of hospitality from the staff. Their behavior ranged from indifferent to downright unkind. For a property that markets itself as a holiday destination, it lacked every element of care, safety, and basic service. We were hoping for a relaxing, memorable stay—but this experience was the complete opposite. I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel, especially for couples, families, or anyone expecting even the bare minimum in terms of service and safety. There are far better options in Krabi that actually care about their guests.

I loved this hotel, i was a bit worried before arriving as some of the reviews were not good but i can safely say i had a great experience here and would go back in the morning. We stayed here for two weeks and loved every minute of it. Beds were very comfortable, rooms were nice a spacious, we always got sunbeds by the pool and the staff so friendly and accommodating. Location was great as well, 10 minute walk from the beach.

Stay was good and comfortable. Room was clean and comfortable. It was inconvenient having to walk up to a lobby not in the building. Staff was helpful with contacting excursions regarding pick up. Maid service was honest as i left my wallet out by mistake and it was still there. It was a good central location. 15 min walk to beach. I would stay again.

Really nice hotel, hidden just off the busy street. Really nice hotel room, large and spacious. Very clean and the staff are very attentive. Don’t let the small hill put you off, there are steps if you don’t fancy the steep slope We loved the location and the use of both pools

This hotel has 2 buildings with reception at the higher one. While we waited for a room I have used the reception area bathroom. The bathrooms were repulsive. The reception area clerk waited till 3 pm ( their check in time) to provide us with room keys even though they were available in our folder. This is not a standard for Thailand. Our room was to be King size bed however we were given 2 double beds which means absolutely no room for your suitcases or to walk around your bed. The buffet breakfast was adequate but the breakfast are was run down and not cleaned for some time. While it was OK to stay for 2 nights I would not come back again .

Had a wonderful stay at Sugar Marina Hotel! The room was cozy, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the service was top-notch. A special thanks to Nui for the warm hospitality and attentive service. Everything was well taken care of, making our trip even more enjoyable. Would definitely stay here again!

Great stay with great service and hospitality from Nui. Good location but the hotel is located slightly uphill, so it requires slightly more effort to walk up to the hotel lobby after a tiring day out. Otherwise, great location and close to all the restaurants with everything located at a walking distance from the hotel. It was a fun stay.

Absolutely awful! Checked in and checked back out two hours later! Now at Frank resort down the road which is cheaper and goroguse! The hotel is run down, lots chipped and marked. The hotel is in two buildings and the lobby into the second was just full of litter / rubbish. The hallways were dirt and outside my room was thick hair and dirt everywhere. My bed looked clean but the bathroom had long hairs all in it. The balcony has no sides so you are on show to all hotel rooms. It looks nothing like the pictures! Extremely disappointed. I asked if room could be cleaned and they swept but that’s it. Unfortunately, didn’t changed rubbish, dirt and balcony and if they had that low level of care for cleanliness I couldn’t trust eating the food etc. my photos don’t even show the half of it!

Interesting property. There seems to be a place where there was a lobby but it was empty. Our bathroom door was a sliding door with large gaps so we could see into the bathroom from outside the bathroom, which was odd. But it was very clean, comfortable, and the pool was lovely

Enjoyable enough. Bit of a climb up to the reception. Then a trek to the busy and chaotic restaurant for breakfast. Telly in the room was far too small for such a big room

The place is amazing, very clean and plesant. The room with the pool was way beyond my expectation, not to mention the helpfull and kind staff. Ms Nui was personally a blessing on my day. I had some challanges with credit card and withdrowing money and she did everything she could to help me solve the situation - this is priceless. Being a well traveled woman, there is nothing that I value more than warm people and good service.

Hotel was clean and location was convenient, it had a bath in the balcony which overlooked the street which seemed pointless as people could see you. Rooms offered bathrobes and toiletries Overpriced for type of hotel we stayed 1 night costing £170 per night which is really expensive for thailand and not worth it for this type of hotel

Property has two buildings. The one close to main road has no reception or security. Anyone can just walk into the building. It has all superior room that do not have adequate storage. The second building in the back has reception and somewhat secure. It has all deluxe rooms that have better storage.

On approach, 1st impressions weren’t great, but inside the hotel it’s lovely and modern, we had a great stay with a comfortable bed in a lovely room, breakfast had everything you could have wanted.

If you wanted to talk to any front desk staff you had to go up to Building 2- not convenient at all.

We stayed for 3 nights. Based on my booking, I espectro a room with a patio adjacent to a pool. However, the room opened to a small patio with steep stairs and a ladder goin into the pool. The patio was not very useable and the pool access and view were not good. We talked to the manager and were able to move to a deluxe room for the second and third nights. The deluxe room was larger, had a large useable patio and was directly adjacent to the pool. This room was much better. I would recommend this hotel to travelers but would highly recommend a deluxe room. The breakfast was very nice.

Quite centrally located however there is no restaurant onsite to order room service for young kids or no bell desk so had to carry our own luggage.

Enjoyed our stay as family of 4. Slightly pokey for our size in terms of places for suitcases etc. we knew this before booking. Really enjoyed how modern and clean the hotel was. Staff were helpful. Pool was accessible and kids enjoyed it.

Booked 2 rooms. The 3rd floor where I stayed was clean. The other room I booked was located on the 2nd floor with pool access. It was a huge disappointment as the showers were dirty, and the smell of sewage was awful only when walking into the bathroom area. There was a slight smell of mildew and I contacted the front desk about it to see if we can change rooms but everything was full and they did not try to move us into another room the next day. It was difficult using the bathroom as it smelled so bad, but we endured and will not be staying there again.

The hotel is located near the Ao Nang Beach area. Main market is at walkable distance. Room was spacious and well maintained.

Our room had a small patio where we could sit out. It had direct access to the lower pool. that was a nice touch.

A bit far to the beach for the family.. the hotel building we stayed in was right off the Main Street. The pool set up was okay. But at 3:00am people went in it and had to call the front desk. I would probably pick a different hotel as the room is pretty cramped with 2 adults and 2 kids when u have 5 suitcases. Nothing wrong with hotel but just not for us. Staff was really nice

I was a little disappointed when checking in as things seemed pretty basic, but i appreciated the quietness and loved swimming laps in the very long pool.

Would like an earlier check in time.

Once again another fantastic stay for 2 weeks! Great staff they were friendly and always asking if everything was great as well as good morning and goodnight! The room was excellent and clean lots of space and great shower! Quit at night and pool was excellent! Really feel like a V.I.P. here thank you again and Hope to stay with you next year! I will always stay with Sugar Marina!

The property is situated quite a far away from AO nang beach. The hotel doesn't even provide complementary water after two small bottles and charge 20baht for 7 baht bottle. The housekeeping service is terrible

Nice place to stay, we had booked pool access rooms so we could step right out of our room into the pool. Very nice place friendly staff and clean. I only gave a 4 out of 5 because some old marks from past guests on walls and mirrors that could be cleaned off. Other then that nice place comfy beds and just far enuff off the main strip to not hear the music and people. Quiet and safe place

Great place to stay for a good price

We had a very enjoyable stay at Sugar Marina. Room was great except for a moldy smell that exists. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was great. Although everything was done to solve the mold smell issue (moved to the room next door) the smell was the same. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The property is on the main strip but it’s at the inactive end of the strip which is good if you want quiet nights. Also it’s labeled as marina but there's no marina on property so that was a little misleading. There's an abundance of restaurants nearby so with the property only housing one restaurant, you still have choices around. Overall this was an ok stay but for myself I'd choose another location in the heart of the strip for a livlier vibe and closer proximity to everything nearby.

Everything i needed was with in 5 minute walk. 7-11, food, bars, lurndry ect. About 750 metres walk to the beach. Will be staying at saugar marina hotel again next time I'm back in Ao Nang

When I arrived at the hotel I've created by a lovely member of the staff who informed me that normally I would have to check in at 15:00 but because I think he saw I was tired. She let me check in early this was excellent customer service

This place is a bit further up from the beach, but that's a good thing. It was amazingly quiet which was most welcome as the previous three nights we had a room in a hotel above a bar. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, had all the amenities I needed. The pool was refreshing and the breakfast buffet was one of the best on this trip. Would return here again if I happen to pass this way again.

Staff was not friendly, an hour, and 15 minute late check in, no lotion in the rooms, upon check out, had to wait for maid to go to the room, and then try to say that I broke the blow dryer, which was not true. Liked that a beach mat and towels in a handy beach bag were in each room. Very nice pool as well. breakfast in the hotel for ฿350 was just OK, better to eat at some of the breakfast cafés down the street.

Pros: - good location: located on the main road, about a ten minute walk from the beach. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the beach but still walkable. - hotel looked like it was fairly new and the rooms were modern - two free bottles of water per day, good WiFi Cons: - bathroom was SUPER dark. I have never been in a bathroom that felt like a cave before. - we booked the cheapest room (cliff view) but it was facing the busy street which was loud. Technically there was a cliff that we could see, but I would have preferred a quieter room. I thought cliff view would be quiet haha. - located on a very steep hill, if you have any mobility issues this is not a good hotel choice for you

Excellent hotel in a very convenient location. Lovely cliffside view. Clean and spacious room. Balcony has chairs and table which is good. No wardrobe in the room but benches to put your baggage on. Has small fridge and safe. Bathroom has sliding door so not sound proof. Nice pool area on the first floor and small gym on third floor.

Had the one bedroom unit. Never again. The bathtub is on the balcony and while it has plumbing, can NOT be used. This is same for the other unit in this category. This is NOT a jetted tub. They use the word “jetted” as in dry docked. On the balcony as decoration. Staff member dropped my duty free bag upon arrival breaking an expensive item. Barely an apology.

Such a great place will stay again! Pok and Nut were so helpful at the buffet staff was great. The clean rooms and area was very quit! Thank you again!

Big room with a very comfortable bed! Everything was clean and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was simple but adequate. Lots of places to eat/drink within walking distance. On the whole we enjoyed our stay, although I would suggeat that the hotel tries to find an alternative to providing water in plastic bottles every day.

The hotel is carved onto the side of a cliff with the theme throughout hotel of rock climbing. Unique! Good breakfast with cook to fix eggs at your request. We had a room that had a view of street life and huge rock mountain range. Good restaurants/bars nearby. Our room had a tub on outside deck that we could not use as water faucets were not working. Shower room modern and clean.

It was a very nice stay but being an ex hotelier, I saw many small things that were not being maintained from window washing to dead plants and weeds. If these things are looked after it would have been even better.

Room was clean and modern. Beds were a bit hard but ok for me. Breakfast was very good and convenient. Pool was small but did the trick. The hotel overall is good. Only negative was the area at the back (where building #2 is) looked like an unfinished construction zone.

Like the great people of Thailand this hotel is beyond pleasing expectations, quick check in and out, helpfull and welcoming. Though listed as a 4 star hotel you are receiving 3 star amenities, the room has a spectacular view.

We had a poolside room in the building next to the cliff. Very clean, pool was lovely, had a view of the cliffs and the water from our patio. Great breakfast buffet - lots of different options all well prepared. Hotel is off the main drag in Ao Nang, but it is set back so it feels like you are out of the hustle. Lots of useful things in the room - beach towels and mats and umbrellas and robes and more. Very happy with our stay.

Good location,easy get good foods just a walking distance

Friendly staff from the beginning to the end, the area was quiet and we had access from the street to our room making it very easy to get in and out. The rooms were excellent providing beach towels and flip flops for the pool as well as umbrellas for those rainy days! I will book again! The staff at breakfast was very accommodating and the spread was great! Thanks again an hope too soon!

Hotels should be obliged to tell potential guests that there is another hotel being built alongside. The 12 hour a day banging was ridiculous, and on top of that the construction site overlooks the pool area and offers little privacy from workers on the site. The breakfast was disappointing after reading good reviews, the coffee was tasteless and the food was cold the heating plates were mostly unplugged. The pool access room did not have a pool ladder and guests from non pool access rooms were occupying the area, the children could not access the pool safely. No guard on the property in the evening. The bar was closed and breakfast was served in another building accessed by two elevators and stairs. On the plus side the beds were large and comfortable, the staff were few but pleasant.

Fabulous property, our room was deluxe pool access so we had the pool and we were on the 2nd floor so we had an amazing view !! Free mini bar and it’s walking distance to all the restaurant / shops and beach ! Excellent location

We liked the location as it was on a busy road with an easy access to bars, restaurants, shops and beach including boat ticket office to other beaches such as Railay. If you plan to spend your day by the pool, which we don’t do, this isn’t a hotel for you. The hotel is next to a construction site and the day time is very noisy. The staff is super friendly, rooms are excellent and the hotel is very clean all the time. If you like to explore region and its beaches this is a great choice. Very good value for money.
