Location. Easy access. Staff very friendly and helpful. Young lad on Saturday evening was very good. Decent food and breakfast was excellent.
If there was any criticism, no soap or shower, shampoo available in the bathroom.
Location and politeness of staff
Lighting in the room wasn’t the best to get ready with
Lovely 400 hundred year old building. Very quirky
Rickety staircase
Good traditional pub
Location was great for NEC.Breakfast & food in the evening was great. Was a really lovely pub.The bedroom could probably do with some maintenance & updating.
We enjoyed very friendly service. The eggs were perfect.
Quirky perfect for visiting my son Also getting about in a peaceful location
The history of the pub
Location great
Room small and very basic excepting very old property. No door to the bathroom old shower curtain etc could be improved
Staff were super friendly, location was excellent, room was comfortable. Good parking and fantastic beer garden.
No air con which 99.9% of the year wouldn’t be a problem. Needs a fan in hot weather - fortunately I bought one with me but maybe having some fans in the rooms if the weather is going to be this hot in the summer! 🤣
Great place. Great team
Nothing g
Great pub with good accommodation in a lovely village 10 mins from the NEC. Very friendly staff who were very patient with a person in our party who is a fussy eater. Food good and overall ambiance is excellent.
Bathrooms are a little tight in the outside rooms but that is a the nature of old buildings.
Quirky old pub . Nice rooms but small. Good cooked breakfast. Lovely outdoor seating area. Helpful and friendly staff. Very handy for NEC.
Shame about the noise from the airport and busy road.
The White Lion is a fab location, 4 mins walk to the train station, £6.20 for 2 adults return by train to the NEC. We ate here before the gig and the food was lovely. It's good value and way better than a massive hotel or chain restaurant with no atmosphere. Staff are lovely, room fine. Please bear in mind that it's a really old building so full of character but not accessible for those who might struggle. Excellent value for money and lovely breakfast.
Central for our needs. Nice breakfast. Good friendly service. Room was available on checking in.
Shower was small but ok for an overnight stay.
Really good and friendly staff in a great location, very well kept beer and great value for money.
A great local pub with friendly staff and fresh ales. A really good dinner menu capped off an excellent experience.
Excellent position for the NEC ( one stop only on the train), comfortable rooms (we've stayed here twice), free parking and the staff are lovely.
Nothing.
lovely light breakfast
Location was great for the NEC. Staff were nice , food good.
Awful bed. Thick cobwebs and dirty floors
Good location. Food nice
Awful bed. Thick cobwebs dirty floors. Need more staff in the restaurant/ pub two is not enough.
Gorgeous old building, exceptional, friendly, welcoming staff. Perfect location for the NEC
Nothing!
Really convenient location for the NEC. Clean comfortable room with plenty of space. Food at the pub is excellent. Landlord really hospitable and friendly. Couldn’t fault my stay, would love to stay again, thank you!
Nothing
We liked staying in the pub, it was a nice old pub and full of character, steep stairs, uneven floors and small doorways which all added to the character of the building.
Staff were helpful and the food for all our meals was fantastic. Quite the best omelette I have ever eaten.
They were a little understaffed and that can't be helped. It was a shame but didn't marr the weekend.
Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Food and drink were good.
The rooms need to be individually bookable. There is restricted height in the bathrooms in the main building (but not in the courtyard ones), so if you're tall, you need to book the ones that have showers that you can fit into!
Very small bed room on a sort of mezzanine level. Getting served in the pub for food proved hard so I ate out
Room
Lovely staff, really. Food was good. Bed comfortable. Free parking
Possibly needs a better eye for interior design and a refresh of bathroom but perfectly comfortable, clean and functional
Qurky pub, friendly staff and great for overnight stop before taking a plane.
Nothing
Non esiste . Booking non dovrebbe neanche elencare una struttura del genere . Addirittura il taxista mi ha chiesto se volessi veramente restare . Sono scappata
Lovely old pub with rooms above. Good quality food and choice. Public transport nearby is a bonus. Set in a small town that is well kept.
Not necessarily something that could be improved, but the access stairs to the upstairs rooms very steep and with a turn (no intermediate landing). However, when the pub is closed there is access via an external staircase (also the fire exit) with a coded lock. This can be used at any time.
An exceptional accomodation fully equipped with real ale on tap. Rooms were spacious. Parking was secure. Staff were fantastic
Nothing comes to mind
Good location and beautiful building
Cobwebs and dust in room. Mattress/topper very comfortable. Breakfast doesn't start until 8am weekends so only got to have 1/3 that we paid for.
Excellent practical room for myself and dogs . Needed to leave earlier and was given a bacon sandwich for my journey . Excellent front of house staff would happily return
Charming buildings and friendly staff.
Bathroom and shower too small due to the old building style.
Staff and owner very welcoming and friendly. Very good breakfast and we were able to have our room for extra time. Quiz was good fun on Sunday evening. Good location.
Rooms would benefit from upgrade.
I love the location and food was amazing. I love the style of the room.
The room wasn’t cleaned properly and it needed a few updates like a new tv. And the shower room needs updating new sink and shower and door.
Close to NEC
The atmosphere in the Pub & the friendliness of the staff. Excellent breakfast . Warm pork scratchings from the bar aree delicious
The hotel is on the flight path of Birmingham airport, so was woken by planes at 6am. If you are a plane enthusiast this would be a great place to stay in the summer
The facilities need to be updated and modernised throughout.
I love the old charm to the building and how busy it was in the pub and how homely and warm it was.
No vegan options for breakfast but bean on toast.
We were the only ones at breakfast and received excellent service from the landlord who was very sociable. Fortunately we took our own gluten free bread as in spite of notifying them in advance there was none available. Breakfast was otherwise excellent.
Breakfast was very good. Staff were excellent they let us in our room early
The room was tiny with stairs going up to the floor where the room was. Getting out of the bed there was a foot gap before the stairs quite dangerousgrwt
Typical old style country pub

Warm atmosphere , lovely staff
Cramped bedroom ( No 9)
Lovely staff, allowed us to check in early. Pub is really cute and location was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding at the Hampton manor.
The room we stayed in was are a little dated and the lights in the room were quite dim (with limited daylight) but this wasn't too much of an issue for us.
Loved the historical quirky nature of the rooms, the staff were fabulous and the breakfast excellent. Dinner was good as well. The location for an event at the NEC couldn’t have been better.
A little bit of noise from the bar and outside the bedroom with old keys in locks and loud neighbours.
Great for visiting Hampton Msnor
Radiator was very hot in the room
Proximity to Hampton Manor wedding venue
Stairs! Outdoor set were difficult when using a walking stick and indoor stairs incredibly narrow and steep for same person
Friendly staff and good food
Location was good, Friendly staff. Parking was easy. good selection of beers. cosy atmosphere. Nice open fire. Dogs are allowed in bars and restaurant
Did not like the room, it was too small for 2 people and two dogs, In addition the stairs up to the room were extremely steep and at the bottom you are faced with a door that is literally adjacent to the bottom step. The only exit once the pub was closed was via the fire exit. Our dog did not want to walk on the open grid construction.
Great location for staying over after wedding at Hampton Manor - less than 5 mins walk. Lovely, cosy and friendly pub. Rooms basic, clean and comfortable and tasty breakfast. Good value. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Nothing! Only tiny thing, would have been nice to have teabags in the room (coffee was available). But generally great and would stay again/recommend.
Friendly staff, amazing food, very comfortable bed, great location.
Nothing
Staff were exceptional
We chose location as the pub was near the NEC for an evening concert. Staff welcoming and friendly. Free car park. Room was clean and tidy albeit a little "quirky" due to the age (old) of the building. We were on 1st floor with steep steps to be aware of and floor was uneven, again due to age. I believe there are ground floor rooms available. Restaurant food was very good as was the breakfast choice. Would stay here again.
Good value accomodatoon in a 400 year old pub in an ideal location with good food
We were visiting the NEC and the White Lion seemed an ideal off site place to stay. The quality of the food was very good, a mix of traditional pub food food with some good options on the specials board
The property was close to where we were dining, it had a lovely welcome and staff were kind and helpful. Breakfast was lovely, just wish there was a little more - mainly because it was good and well cooked!
We had a room with twin beds and when we moved them closer together, it was obvious they hadn’t been moved for some time.
Location, food
Room a bit tired
Lovely character rooms. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Lovely pub with great food. Breakfast was included which was delicious. The location is great for visiting the pulse live, just one stop on the train.
Not a negative as it's part of the character of the old building but just to be aware of; some v low beams in the hallways upstairs and into the bathroom.
Good simple accommodation, easy to access late at night on return. Breakfast was good quality.
Its location, a short ride from NEC centre
The heating went off in our room quite early but there was an oil filled radiator available which was used to keep the room warm.
Parking ok
Dated rooms albeit an old building
We liked the area it was cute and nice to be away from the busy city. The staff were very nice. The breakfast was nice too. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean. Would definitely recommend 😊
The room was small but it was cozy! There wasn’t many shops/facilities nearby if you don’t have a car
Clean, quiet room, staff very friendly.
Breakfast was ok, but could have been a little better
Nice local pub with friendly staff.
Nice old inn

Brilliant staff and beautiful building
The welcome, the atmosphere, the location, the room, the food, the drinks .. all excellent
There wasn’t anything to dislike
Breakfast was cooked fresh and hot, good quality produce,
Bottle of water in the room and a hand towel, nothing major, would happily stay again.
Small cozy room fairly priced and with breakfast! Staff is very friendly
Nothing really
nice and warm

I would recommend The White Lion Inn to my friends because the location is ideal if you are visiting the NEC at Birmingham. We go there every year and it is very expensive staying at NEC. This location is one stop on the train from NEC and is easy to get to. The White Lion Inn is comfortable, affordable and a lovely place to stay. We loved the room as it is different from your standard hotel room. Old worldy, wooden beams, low doorways but still has all the facilities of a much more expensive hotel. The beds were very comfortable. We had food which was great and the breakfast was also very good. We also returned to the hotel after being at NEC and had a relaxing drink in the bar. Staff were very friendly and engaging. We will definitely stay here again.
There wasnt anything I didn't like about this hotel.
The location was lovely, the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough, the gentleman who greeted us when we arrived was lovely and really helpful. The lady at breakfast was especially welcoming and very attentive, and polite and we felt so welcomed. The pub is lovely and old and in a great location. The full English breakfast was really nice, tasty good quality. My daughter wasn't hungry, so just had cornflakes but she couldn't eat them because unfortunately they were stale and soft.
The food at lunch was inedible, I made an excuse for our night-time booking because lunch was a waste of money because we didn't eat it. At breakfast I went to thd pub toilets and was almost sick it smelt so bad. It had not been cleaned from thd night before, it stunk of poo and was dirty and there was no toilet paper. The room itself was small, very noisy. I dont know if it was pipes or water boiler but a massive loud noise woke us up at 5.30am and then again at 6 ish. We could hear people either side through the walls. The shower head was mouldy and I did debate if I needed one. I got one and it was not very powerful but because of the shower head being dirty I felt unclean when I got out. There is no bin in the bedroom. I took a of our rubbish home in the boot. There were cobwebs all over the ceiling and spiders in the wardrobe. The kettle was full of water and I must of killed about 10 beer flys!! Or what looked like that.
The Room was okay food job I did not rake a cat as the Double bed took up most of the space. But other than that it was acceptable, just! Byt was really has anniyed me was the way the Hotel have dealt with the fact that Hotels .com booke a second room - maybe it was in case I wanted to swing a Cat in the room! When I arrived at the Hotel I raised the matter with them they blamed Hotels.com when I got Home Hotels.com regusef to do anything about approval from the Hotel so nearly 10 days since my stay and after numerous phone calls and chasing eventually got my Refund no thanks to the Hotel as the Woman who spike to the Rep from Horels.com was rude and would not speak to them on the Phone! Not very professional and very rude.
Friendly and welcoming, lovely hot breakfast
Lovely, quaint pub. Room was beautiful. Allowed me to check in early. Breakfast was great, cooked to order, plenty of choice.
The room was a little cold, couldn't get the heating to work.
This is not a review about the pub! Which actually looked lovely. This is a review of the accommodation in the outbuildings.
On arrival, we picked up the keys from the pub and were given directions by a very polite member of staff to our room. This was through the car park then through an area that had fake grass and seating for customers. This obviously had quite a few people sitting enjoying their afternoon, which while being a pub is absolutely great. What wasn't great was that our room was right there, children literally on the doorstep making quite a bit of noise. Which is obviously still ok as it is a pub! But the room wasn't private, the only window opened up to this area so you can't even open the curtains, also the only lighting was a lamp on either side of the bed so it was very dull and dark. We decided not to stay as it was so noisy we couldn't even hear each other, so after 2/3 minutes we left. We did make contact to the pub to say we couldn't stay and were offered the cost of breakfast as a refund. We were very disappointed to say the least. I didn't take up this offer as we ended up staying in a much nicer place down the road for a better price and quality.
Breakfast was nice and location was perfect for me
Great location for NEC, proper English pub in a beautiful village, really friendly staff
