Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff handled our concerns really well and a big thank you to Rhian especially for changing our room. The property has charm, particularly in the bar/restaurant area. We had dinner and breakfast included in our room price and it was well worth it. Dinner was not exceptional but hearty on a damp day.
We only stayed one night while travelling through Wales and it was debatable at first whether we'd actually refuse the room. The hotel is very tired and the room facilities dated. Our room looked to have recently been freshened up with paint but it and I suspect all other rooms need a more comprehensive refurbishment. On first glance, the photos on the website do not convey how tired and dated the rooms (and facilities) are. When we stayed in mid-September, it was still relatively warm (well, muggy) and drizzly/wet but I'm not sure how comfortable it would be in much harsher weather conditions.
Great location; lovely owners that couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome; great food option
Rooms a little bit tired - full of character; classic inn - a little bit pricey but not horrendous
Lovely place to stay, not your typical hotel with a boring white and grey colour scheme, there was some old furniture in the rooms which added character. We also had a delicious evening meal there and the staff were great.
The shower took a long time to get warm and the overhead one wasn't actually plummed in, also the breakfast was a little disappointing, mainly because the bacon wasn't cooked enough. It looked and tasted as if it had been cooked just enough for it not to be raw.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Decor was "lived in" but very comfy and interesting.
Location Quaintness Breakfast Free parking

Room smelled a bit musty; it was a long trek upstairs;
Food was good.
Room very dated & totally overpriced
Great location
Needed freshening up a bit
The location in the town was central and I enjoyed mooching around the gift and book shops. The waiting staff were really friendly. The restaurant food was good. There was safe motorcycle parking. The bed was comfy.
It was a damp and chilly day and I couldn’t get any heating in the room. The shower was good and hot though. The room was dark but it was their last available single room.
There is a wide choice of cooked breakfast, which were delicious, plus toast and cereals. The room was comfortable and spacious.
Nothing
Nice location and the breakfast was good.
The hotel is a bit tired and would benefit from a lick of paint and new carpets. The downstairs bar area smelt damp.
Location was good for what we needed
The room was terrible, very outdated not like the photographs shown when booking! The bed in room 20 was sloping to the right so was sliding off! Worst nights sleep ever!
Clean and comfortable stay in older pub. Food was great and nice to walk through town. Good parking
It’s a very old building full of charm, menu is amazing! And the food delicious.
Good accommodation for my needs. Breakfast was very good.
The bed wasn't that comfortable.
Used as a base for two days before moving onto Derbyshire riding our motorcycles, staff very helpful, pleasant to talk with and looked to enjoy their work. We had breakfast 2x mornings and it was well cooked and presented.
Suffering from in area's a lack of money to keep the place looking at its best, bathroom was looking tired around the edges
Beautiful old building in a lovely central location.
Nothing
Very friendly staff, lots of character
Breakfast was 5 star. Lovely friendly and helpful staff.
Tired room interior.
Location in the town. Bed linen was clean and crisp. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Car park was good.
This is a very tired hotel. The room was very tired, old and had worn in dirt on the armchair, frayed carpet with nails coming through by the bathroom door, low ceiling over shower made standing under the shower difficult without bumping your head, toilet cistern took an age to refill.
Breakfast was excellent, great selection, freshly cooked, quick efficient polite service. Dinner food very good although the menu was a little dated. Spacious room. Ample free parking at the back of the hotel. Free entrance to a gig in the hotel which was terrific. Though the hotel seemed pretty busy it was quiet for sleeping.
Decor a bit dated and shabby. After the hottest summer on record still got 10tog duvets. Town clock chiming throughout the night, problem in hot weather when you have the windows open
In the town centre and close to the relatives we were visiting.
Too close to the Bell Tower as the clock struck every quarter during the whole of the night. No sleep.
The food was excellent, both breakfast and evening meal. Staff were cheerful and very helpful.
Not too bad. Wow, the chimes of the Town clock were pretty loud with the windows open. Lovely clock tower but needs turning off during the night if possible.
The rooms were clean spacious and comfortable. The hotel had an old fashioned atmosphere like stepping back into an older world of hotel accommodation. The facilities were well maintained, it was lovely to have a spacious sitting room and bar.
The staff were overwhelmed on Sunday night and had little appreciation of the requirement for food and drink to be served together. I managed to get a small glass of wine for my main meal but the glass I ordered arrived at the table only after we were eating our cheese board. An hour to get a glass of wine to the table is wholly unacceptable. My friend’s beer did not arrive at all and he was too embarrassed to insist on this. This was a very poor aspect of service but overall the experience of the hotel was very positive. Your receptionist was fantastic, helped at breakfast too and seemed very efficient unlike the staff serving dinner. I would comment the food at dinner and breakfast was excellent so it’s a shame you let yourselves down by poor staff serving at dinner. It is grating when they say they are too busy. No business should say that as it translates to I don’t care.
Quirky welcoming clean. Wonderful staff. No single use plastics. Excellent breakfast.
Nothing.
Great location, nice homely interior, very friendly staff
Beautiful old Welsh pub. Warm and welcoming. Delicious breakfast with lots of options to choose from. Easily the best location in Mach and great value.
Nothing
Dinner was excellent
Breakfast was nice
I could hear every move that the people upstairs made.
Nice location. Good car park. Very good food..
There is a 6 inch gap in the bedroom window which would not close. It must have been like that for a long time. The window ledge was filthy because of this. We reported the problem but nothing was done. The nearby town clock chimes every quarter hour. We had to stuff the gap which mitigated the problem somewhat.
Public areas had an historic feel about it. 7.30 am breakfast Sat & weekdays. Car park. Central location. Good beer. Would stay again
Single room rather tired. However there was a bath with shower over that worked.
Friendly staff. Food. Location. More than 1 chair in double room. Car parking.
Nothing
The Menu, The Hotels Character, the Drawing Rooms and The Staff
The room and some parts of the Hotel are on need of a bit of TLC.
The central location and the friendly atmosphere.
Decor could do with some work.
Great position. Owner/ staff lovely and friendly.

Carpet gripper into bathroom was painful
Good location ,Breakfast very hot and good ,bed comfy .
Had food hygiene rating of 1 but breakfast was very good actually . Twin room was very dark ,wall paper peeling off walls in places ,expensive for 1 night .
Amazing breakfast, ideal location, lovely staff, EV chargers in the carpark behind. Good value for my son & I.
Housekeeping need a serious tune up. Basics missing from room (eg tea bags & TV remote batteries) and mugs not clean one day. Hot water took ages to come through the shower. Beds could be better. Definitely not a "Superior Twin" room.
Friendly staff. There was one lady running around when we arrived looking after the front desk and bar area. She was very welcoming. Had breakfast which was delicious. Comfortable beds.
The room we were in was very run down. Cracks and Stains on the walls, the bathroom was very out dated. The shower attachment was not adjustable, the taps in the sink were loose, the hot tap wouldn't turn off properly. There was scaffolding surrounding the part of the building we were in. The bar offered very little in lagers and beers.
Location, Exemplary staff
Slightly shabby
Charecter property, well located with good private parking. Best of all are the lovely staff and good range of beers.
unfortunately is in dire need of new fixtures and fittings. Showers awful, water temperature difficult to maintain if the shower works at all. Cooked breakfast nice but very poor selection for self service, no fruits!
Lovely manager who was very attentive and helpful. Comfortable rooms. Excellent location In charming town. Friendly locals! Delicious welsh lamb rump for dinner. Great stop on the way through Wales.
Good location to use as a base to explore mid wales.
It was old and tired and not cleaned - our room had cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom. The carpet was very worn and the bathroom needed re grouting and the bath tap leaked.
Comfortable bed, clean linen, clean bedroom, good breakfast, pleasant staff.
The fabric of the building is in a poor state and needs a lot of work with rotting windows, a crumbling parapet, very worn carpets and a lot of poor temporary repair work evident. Pverall, the property looks very shabby in places.
Very friendly staff and excellent location
A little dated but was quite charming
Good place to store bicycle Rustic. Had a good diner at the restuarant.
rooms were hot during heat wave period
Location for my needs was fine, and parking was ok
Bar and restaurant lack any atmosphere, furniture and fittings are ancient, floors slope so much I had to walk uphill to my bathroom. Bed was hard. Choice of breakfast was poor. I didn’t eat at the hotel, chose to eat elsewhere. Water dripped from my bedroom ceiling on to me in bed. Toilet didn’t work in the first room they gave me. The shower was rubbish.
A nice friendly place. The beds were comfy, the staff welcoming and the food was delicious.
I thought the price was expensive considering the decor as it needed a touch of freshening up. The room was a bit warm but understandable in the middle of a heatwave - a fan would have been nice.
Very friendly,helpful staff.
The breakfast was excellent, and the hotel's location in the town centre was ideal.
No issues come to mind.
Breakfast was very good, staff were very friendly and polite.
Staff were excellent, food was very good and the location suited us perfectly. Room was clean and comfortable
The hotel is in need of an upgrade/refurbishment. We understand that it has recently changed hands so perhaps this is something the new owners will do. Better signage to the hotel car park is needed.
Lage: sehr gut, Bahnhof fußläufig zu erreichen Sauberkeit: gepflegtes Hotel Service: nettes Personal Frühstück: sehr gutes Frühstück Ich habe am Abend im Restaurant ganz vorzügliche gegessen, Check in/out: unkompliziert und rasch Bett: gute Matratze Zimmer: schönes Zimmer, alles was man braucht ist vorhanden inklusive Wasserkocher Teebeutel und Instandkaffee Bad: sehr sauber Gesamt Eindruck: sehr gute Unterkunft, Ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt.
Excellent breakfast. Did not have dinner.
The bathroom was a bit dated also had to flush the toilet a few times and the shower needed adjusting.
The rustic charm of the hotel. Staff were excellent and friendly.
Beautiful old building with really helpful and charming staff. It was 32 degrees and they gave me the reception fan for my room. Mind you, each room should have really had its own fan during the heatwave, right? Great location, right in the middle of Machynlleth. Excellent restaurant too
The bed was a bit uncomfortable. The furniture was a bit tired looking. However, all that heavy oak would work nicely in the winter. It would be cosy. In a heatwave… Not so much. Cleaning of rooms could have been better
Lovely room, Food is great and there is secure bike parking
It was very hot ...not the hotels fault
Location great. Breakfast cooked to order and lovely coffee
(Tv could have been a little bigger)
The central location.
Would have been a great help if there was a hand rail to help you step out of the bath. In
Great location, good craic in the bar.
Dated, needs a good scrub, watch you don't fall down the step from the bathroom to the bedroom, painful.
Absolutely exceptional
Large room..comfy bed. Decent bar... Excellent breakfast.. Parking. Town centre location.
Kettle in room didn't work but was replaced immediately. A fan would have been very useful. Stairs...
Lovely staff, excellent location and good breakfasts.
A little refreshing in the stairwells needed
Great welcoming staff and really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. They had an excellent secure large shed where I could store my bike overnight.
The bed wasn't as comfortable as I'd like and the hotel is starting to show it's age but overall still comfortable and friendly welcoming staff
Fantastic grade II listed building. Lots of original features with good layout and use of rooms. A last minute booking for a twin room and best of all dog friendly.
I was really disappointed how tired all decoration was since I last visited. Especially first impressions on arrival around the reception and bar area. Not dirty but not polished. Our room was acceptable- clean bed and bathroom. But the state of repair went further than decoration. It would cost a fortune to upgrade. So much wood flooring and lovely furniture to resurface. With consideration therefore the b+b rate was overpriced. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts nice enough. The hotel an essential part of Mach.
Check in was easy and straightforward. Staff were very professional and friendly. Room was comfortable and clean. Sausage rolls in the bar were great!
Toilet was difficult to flush. No spare toilet roll (the one we had ran out at the end of our stay).
Nice room, good breakfast and lovely central place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Nothing
The location is very good. Big car park.
A bit old facilities.
It was good size room and bathroom and on the main street
I got a bit confused by the keys but that was my fault
The staff are lovely, the room and food were excellent
I know it's not the hotel's fault but we had a sleepless night due to the town clock chiming loudly every 15 minutes right outside our window. I emailed the hotel to explain all this but got no reply.
The breakfast was good, well cooked and hot. There was also some nice quaint features.
The receptionist just handed our key over when checking in without saying where our room was or what time breakfast was served. We were not told where dining room was either. Also the clock outside on the tower was loud and disturbed our sleep.
Breakfast was absolutely fine, but you would expect it to be.
The Hotel is a beautiful building steeped in history..However, it is long overdue a face lift. Tins of paint do not cost a fortune whilst they work their way through and what a difference that would make to overall appearance.
Location was decent
Very tired, floor tiles breaking, tv didn’t work, bed was uncomfortable, kettle had sludge in it, very warm, sweet smell which caused me to keep coughing
Breakfast was very good. The staff were very helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable.
The hotel needs to be refurbished as it had obvious damp issues. And was a little tired.
The place is tired. Need decorating.
Staff were friendly
The shower was cold. Breakfast was okay. TV was comically small. Definitely overpriced!
The hotel had a really friendly staff and the bar was well stocked with real ales. Dinner and breakfast were both very good.
The Wi-Fi was weak in the guest rooms
Beautiful building and furniture/ decor
Secure parking at the rear of the hotel Excellent food Room was clean Efficiency of breakfast staff
Had to wait a while to order drinks and an evening meal in the restaurant
I had dinner as well. The food was excellent. I was all round very happy with everything
Clean, all staff very friendly, very good value, good food. If you are looking for Farrow and Ball and the corporate vibe this is not for you. The decor is faded but the whole place has a characterful and relaxed feeling. Live music on Friday night was a bonus
Private parking
Shabby and expensive for such a low standard, ensuite was grotty.
Value Very well organised
Nothing
In the middle of town, room nice and clean. Breakfast was delicious.
Nothing.
Lovely old public house hotel. Very friendly staff and top rate food.
Liked everything
Very comfortable bed, and excellent food, friendly and welcoming staff
Bathroom needed redecorating as did the corridors, stairs and public rooms
The Wynnstay Hotel is a charming old world hotel in the beatiful market town of Machynlleth. It is in need of some serious upgrading as it is very tired looking with furniture from the 1950's. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. I admire the owners for keeping the Hotel running as a viable business and hope all goes well for them.
The cost of a twin room was advertised as £200 per night. Way, Way overpriced. I managed to get the room for £147.90 via booking.com with a discount because I often use them for my travel and accommodation.
Free parking. Good location.
Lots of stairs to climb but no lift. We didn't know this before we visited.
One of the best hotels we have stayed in. The staff were amazing. The room was beautiful spacious and exceptionally clean. The breakfast was excellent they even had a vegetarian option which was very nice. We took our great Dane who was treated like a king. The atmosphere was perfect. I would 100 percent stay again. The staff are the best.
Having to leave
Terrific Breakfast, very nice dinner, lovely staff.
Breakfast was really good - well set out and full of choice. The cooked breakfast was served on well-heated plates! (Not always the case in hotels)
Location and staff absolutely perfect . Breakfast was excellent 👌🏼
Carpets in main corridors could certainly do with some upgrades. Quite aged. Hotel could definitely benefit from updating which would definitely upgrade the experience. I did feel it was quite expensive for the facilities provided.
Friendly staff, goid food and great breakfast.
A but run own and dated, not sure it should be as expensive
Fantastic location the most helpful friendly staff A superb old inn full of character great food at reasonable prices locally sourced great selection of local beers secure parking in town centre
All good
The food was great. Friendly staff
The decor is tired and shower was like warm
Food and friendly staff
Tired decor and Luke warm shower
It's a charming, old hotel. The breakfast was good.
The room was cold and the heat never started. I couldn't get the water in the shower to heat up past luke warm. A cold room and a mild shower were not the best start to my day. There are warning labels in the bathroom that the water is hot. I took those to be ironic.
Great food, great staff. Good parking.
Great bike store, nice big rooms, food in the bar hit the spot. Very friendly staff.
Room a bit tired, food and drink a little on the pricey side. The resteraunt is next to a room where someone practicing the drums which was a little off putting.
