Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The young lady who was on reception when we checked in was really pleasant.
The reception is unmanned from 11pm to 9am, we was locked out of our rooms as our key card was no working so we had to wait an hour for someone to be on reception which caused a huge delay for us as I was getting married that day!!
The location was good with a nice weather spoons around the corner.
The staff were kind and friendly, but unfortunately the room and overall stay were disappointing, especially considering the £180 price. We had a room with two beds and a sofa bed, but there were no sheets or quilt for the sofa bed. It took three trips to reception before we finally got everything we needed. The toilet seat was also cracked. We were told it would be replaced the following morning, but when we returned from Alton Towers, it still hadn’t been done. The room also wasn’t as clean as we expected. There were empty shower bottles left behind that had clearly run out, we ran out of toilet paper during our stay, and the bathroom window was stuck open. This meant we could hear a lot of the noise from the nightlife outside during the night. The staff were pleasant and did try to help, but there were just too many basic issues with the room. Overall, the stay was okay, but for £180 I expected a much better standard.
Very comfortable bed. Location was perfect for what we needed
I couldn't wash my hair in the shower because the shower didn't provide enough water or power. It was also cold. The room didn't seem like it had been checked before we entered. There wasn't enough toilet paper, and empty bottles of shampoo were left in the shower. I understand it is an old building, but the linoleum was peeling off the bathroom floor. The TV remote wasn't the one for the room, and we had to exchange it. The lad at reception had to be asked several times to change it (which he was happy to do), but the poor boy seemed to be left on his own and overrun with other tasks.
The location
They promised free parking, but I received three parking tickets during my stay and were fined by the car rental service... The hotel does not want to take any responsibility! Outrageous! Worst stay ever!
The location was fine
Staff Couldn’t find our booking, Gave us a room that someone else was already staying in The new room was FILTHY, only reason we stayed was there was no availability anywhere else, and couldn’t sleep in our car although a cardboard box on the street may have been similarly cleanly. There was a sock over the smoke detector The room smelled of stale cigarettes The bath wasn’t cleaned Bedding had dirty marks on it The sofa was crusty Then the evening after I got a phone call from the hotel asking what time I was checking in (we stayed the night before)
Location is good
Be careful when you book here! Although the room was dirty and mouldy I wasn’t too perturbed because it was reasonably priced and a good location. However…. I booked it through booking.com and it was pay at the property. Unfortunately for me the hotel failed to inform booking.com of my arrival so I was charged twice. I informed the hotel and they admitted their mistake and stated that they will reimburse me. I’ve had to chase them up several times and they promised the repayment will go into my bank. Several phone calls and emails later still no money back. It’s been going on now for around 7-8 weeks.
Staff great .bar great.front part of hotel amazing
Being woke up at 3 am ish . Noisy people drunk lady abusive . Police called eventually. .knocking on. both our room doors trying to get in.t.v falling off wall. Bugs in room .radiator leaking shower dirty. Panel in bath room missing, dirty grout . Light socket in both rooms falling off.police again Saturday daytime .partner being picked in the back by drunk lady at reception . Later told she was drunk and abusive h.i staff and wrecked the desk.broken chair in room that was sorted by lady with tattoos white lady.very helpful.
It was in centre of town
The room was not good. Jobs needed finishing. The towels weren’t very clean. The extractor fan was so loud we couldn’t put the light on in the shower room. The shower didn’t work properly and the sink was blocked
Very good staff members but the propert needs thorough cleaning on their carpets and a bit of renovation
Dust all over the stairs
Staff friendly, room spacious.
None manned staff through the night, no hot water and none working fridge
Location
It's very tired needs a lot of work doing to it
It was a bed for the night
Hole in the floor blood on the mattress covered by the sheet
Mirrors were brilliant tho was getting ready for a wedding and had a big mirror in bedroon for doing my hair, with plug socket next to it. Great mirror in bathroom perfect for doing make up
The bed was awful like sleeping on a wooden block, so we didnt sleep well
The location of the hotel was conveniently located near where I was traveling
The cleanliness of the place. Couldn't sleep all night. The beds were infested with bed bugs. I had to relocate myself and the kids in the middle of the night.
Not a lot
Only 1 bath towel in room. had to ask for more, even then, we didnt get a hand towel Stray rubber glove on wardrobe Room too hot. Shower - hard to regulate heat - was cold for my wife, but scalding hot for me. Hard to turn on and off. Oh, and teh bifold shower door kept on opening into the shower during use, flooding the floor Staff we no where to be seen Room too Hot
Room was cleanish but very very basic tepid hot water very small sink and shower not very inviting no bath so washed in small shallow sink .small room door had an unsafe lock on it (no metal stiking plate for lock to engage when locked .we wont be making any return visits .very overpriced for poor quality rooms and musty smells throughout the premises .
Everything
The room I insisted upon being moved to was OK.
Middle of a heatwave: no A/C and no available fans to move the air in the absolute sweatbox I was put in initially. One young and pleasant member of staff manning the whole hotel from what I could see. Eventually reallocated a slightly cooler room which had no running hot water. A hotel at the fag-end of its usefulness.
Nothing
From arriving you could see the hotel was very run down. Went upto our room and on the way up its extremely dusty and carpets clearly not been hoovered for a long time. Went into the room and looked ok but literally dropped our bags off and went back out to go into Stone. I asked in the bar area what time breakfast was to be told they didnt serve food, yet on booking.com you can book for breakfast. Came back and sat in the bar area and everything was ok until we were served a malibu and coke for our 8 year old daughter! We didnt realise until about 15mins after when I went to have some of it and could smell the alcohol straight away. I went upto the bar and it was the female manager who I spoke to and she was immediately very rude and said thats what we had ordered. At no point in the night had we had spirits and she'd served us numerous times already, because the bar was busy I said could we speak in reception as I didnt want to make a scene etc. We went through to reception and her first words were "i cant be arsed dealing with this if you dont like it call the cops". I was extremely taken back and said I didnt want the police involving i just wanted an apology, luckily she hadn't drunk from it and she said the reason was because it smelt funny (obviously the alcohol in it). She was extremely argumentative so I said I would deal with it in the morning. When we went upto bed we found the main room lights didnt work, there was no hot water, urine on the back of the toilet, dirty soap suds all over the bath tiles but mostly a dirty pair of socks obviously from the previous person on the floor at the side of the bed. Due to what had happened in the bar area I didnt return down to reception that night.
Very good value hotel in Stone. The facilities are a bit tired and the cleaning of the common areas could be improved, my room was clean, the bed was comfortable and there was hot water in the shower. It was half the price of the premier inn.
Common areas could do with better cleaning
Location was great
Dirty run down hotel needs updating not worth the price
My husband was staying here as part of a long cycle ride. He needed somewhere in central Stone. The room was comfortable and he was able to bring his bike inside which was a plus.
The window looked out on a wall and the hotel no longer serve breakfast which the website had not been clear about.
It’s location
No hot water dirty room and worst of all booking . Com were not helpful at all
Bar area
Room ,bathroom had hold in the ceiling, wasn’t clean thick dust in radiator skirting etc
Good location that's it
Rooms were not same as pics not been cleaned very dusty and dirt on some of door frames
Disgusting, dirty, tv didn’t work, no a/c. Noisy. Do not stay here.
As above. No replenishment of coffee milk etc. dirty kettle
The town it was in.
The hotel smelt of damp towels in the entrance hall and reception. The chairs in the public areas were filthy. The early check-in I had requested and agreed at an extra cost was not made available. The room was not in the main hotel but in another building. The door lock was broken and there were exposed wires on the outside. The wardrobe was a carcass of an original and had no shelves. The top of the wardrobe was thick with dust. The bedside lamp only worked if the wire was wiggled. The hairdryer holder fell off the wall. There was paint flaking off in patches. The window did not open sufficiently to let any air in and there was no air-conditioning. The curtains were old, stiff and dirty. The lampshades were dirty. The bathroom walls were very unclean, there was residue of something unknown around the sink. There were insufficient toiletries. The toilet itself was okay. There was no cover on the drain in the shower cubicle and it had a plastic bottle stuck down it. The sink and shower surrounds were black with mould. There was a mark on the bedsheets and a living insect in the bed that was not a spider. The carpet had not been vacuumed properly so I felt unwilling to take my shoes off. With the broken door lock and the general dirtiness and bad wiring (one of the sockets only worked erratically), I got ready for the function I was attending and returned later to collect my belongings having arranged alternative accommodation for the night. When the staff were advised that I would not be staying one of them offered to show me another room but I declined. The other member of staff (a female, name unknown) was somewhat hostile when I told her that I would be leaving my car there and I had to point out that I was not parking for free as I had already paid £103 for my room.
Only the location
The room, the bed, the shower and no breakfast availability.
Booked for 2 only 1 towel supplied. Shampoo and conditioner had been used and not replaced, no shower mat for tiled floor. No coffee or spoon. And bare plaster behind the radiator where it looked like the radiator cover had been removed. Coffee was supplied by the receptionist. I later went to the bar, rang the bell twice, no member of staff around so I went to the pub up the road.
The location at the centre of town and near the wedding venue was a bonus. The room was clean and tidy.
The hotel struggled to find my reservation, staff were friendly and helpful though. Wasn't clear when booking the room that it wouldn't actually be in the hotel itself but rather in the annex building on the otherside of the carpark. The walls are very thin, could hear the tv from the other rooms and even moving about. Fairly sure when booking I asked for two single beds which we didn't get, luckily we could make it work.
Location was perfect
The photos of the booking do not match the room we had. The room had no fan, despite being in a heat wave. There was weed remnants in a drawer of the desk. The floor had bits on that kept sticking to my feet. The bathroom had a huge hole in the ceiling with the plaster falling off. The bathroom is tired and passable at most.
The location was great and parking available to
The property check in time was 2pm, we arrived at 2:45 and was given keys. Went to the room and the room was a mess, empty cans everywhere. Bed not made, dirty tissues and towels everywhere. Went down and complained and staff said cleaners must not have been and cleaned yet, we then had to wait till 3:30 to check into the room. Went back to the room, the window was smashed, dirty bathroom, towels stained and bedding also stained. It was a very hot day there was no air in the room or fan provided and window could not be opened due to being smashed. Went down and complained again and was told there was no other rooms left.
Our room was Absolutely disgusting, the carpets, upholstery were heavily stained. Wall paper peeling off the walls. There was a small bathroom bin, jammed between the bathroom windows to keep it open. The level of dust on the main window allowed you yo scribe the words - clean me, to bring notice to housekeeping. We arrived late around 12.30am so limited staff who could address some of our issues. Obviously will record temperatures, we expected at least a fan in our room, no bottles of water and the bar was closed. Not the best £110.00 spent Would never recommend this for anyone to stay overnight.
Easy to access and with validated parking. The young man who works there helped us with more towels and an extra spot clean of the room when we weren’t happy with the cleanliness. We thank him for this.
Absolutely zero attention to detail. The stair carpets are filthy and lots of dust/damp patches in general areas. Smells like old cigarette smoke throughout the building. We have 2 small children so chose a ‘Family Deluxe’ room - it was street facing, opposite a late night bar, on 3rd floor, no lift. No air conditioning or fans provided (we even rang ahead to check this) so very noisy with window open. Our room hadn’t been cleaned except for new bed sheets which was evident in the fact that dirty cups, teaspoons & plate had just been rearranged on the desk which unfortunately, like the beside tables, was also sticky & had hair & dust on and clearly hadn’t been wiped. Toilet hadn’t been cleaned very well either, there was ‘remnants’ of whoever had last used it in the toilet bowl.
Nothing at all
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel other travellers should be aware of the issues we experienced during our stay. We booked two rooms for three nights. Unfortunately, both rooms suffered from significant problems. My room contained visible black mould in the shower area and was covered in dust. Because I have a dust allergy, this caused immediate concern. I was moved to another room, but the replacement room was also heavily dusty. The second room had a broken shower, plaster that had fallen from the ceiling, excessive dust, and a door handle that had fallen off. The room was clearly not being maintained to an acceptable standard. After complaining, the occupants were moved to another room. However, that room was also dusty and the problems did not end there. The replacement room's access system failed, leaving the occupants locked out and unable to access any of their belongings. Staff were unable to resolve the issue and advised that a locksmith would need to attend the following day. One of the guests was pregnant and was left without access to essential personal items and pregnancy-related equipment. This added considerable distress to an already unacceptable situation. Communication was poor throughout. Attempts to contact the property were unsuccessful and Booking.com also struggled to obtain a response. The most disappointing aspect was that problems existed across both original rooms and both replacement rooms, suggesting these were not isolated incidents. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly advise potential guests to read recent reviews carefully before booking.
Free car parking
The main door lock in the framework was broken out so the actual inside of the door lock didn't go into the recess so the locking system didn't work, I had to go to the reception on two more occasions because the electronic key wouldn't open the doors, there was parts missing from the shower taps I managed to get the shower to switch on but it would not switch off, so I had to turn the stop connections off on the wall pipes
Comfy beds, clean room, great LED mirror in bathroom. Hotel accommodated us a room before check in to enable us to get ready for a wedding.
Needs bit of cosmetic work, no spoons for tea/coffee facilities, bathroom light didn’t work but LED mirror was bright enough, missing tv remote.
Close proximity to town centre,
Room tired, carpets stained but relatively clean, ben linen immaculate. Bar ran out of stock very early., on a Friday Evening
It’s in the middle of town
It’s a complete dump. The only staff member is rude and the room was in a terrible state.
Location
Needs to be refreshed
bed was comfy
half used bottles of shampoo and shower gel in bathroom. NO towels in bathroom, had to ask for them, mould around base of shower screen. Every room door slams, need softer closing. When i arrived told restaurant closed for work, didnt know this in advance, so obviously no breakfast. Wall paper near reception lifting off walls
It was in the centre of Stone.
Light switches coming away from wall. Faulty electrical connections. Shower scalding and couldn't turn it off. Plaster coming off the wall. Door handle came off. Our car was damaged on the car park, duty manager refused to get out of bed to deal with accessing CCTV at 11am. After three days of chasing the CCTV with promises updates never arriving, we were eventually told that the only camera not working that night was the one overlooking the car park.
Nothing!
Everything
Absolutely nothing good to say about this Hotel.
Upon arrival, the hotel is in serious need of a refurb. The smell of sewerage and damp filled the corridors and rooms. To add to this there was no hot water in any of the 3 rooms we booked. None of the rooms had been cleaned prior to our arrival and the bathroom/toilets were a disgrace having been used by previous staff or guests. Coffee/tea had been used and bins left full of rubbish. Tv brackets on the wall but no Tv. tv remotes in the room but no Tv. The general feel of the whole hotel felt dirty and unkempt and we were all glad to be leaving. Plus, we didn't get so much of an apology and to try and get a refund was futile.
Nothing
Staff weren’t at reception when we came back at night neither my key card or my mums worked for her room. Staff had to travel in to get our key card to work we waited 20 minutes. Room was falling apart. My mums tap fell off, the bathroom light was hanging off. Bed extremely uncomfortable could feel all the springs in the bed. The hotel smelt like old clothes.
Very central and easy to access to Stone. Room was spacious and very comfortable. Real sense of history
Location and the receptionist was really helpful
No restaurant
Lovely bed. Clean bathroom.
We booked a suite and the door wouldn’t open so we were moved to a room that had the heating on so it was boiking in there and 25 degrees outside. We had to get two fans. The milk was off. Someone walked in in the morning without knocking at about 10:15 am.
Location is perfect, building is very nice and rooms are a good size. Staff are very friendly there
The toilets were not clean, there was skidmarks left in the toilet and overall not too clean but wasnt a huge issue.
Bed was fine Bathroom floor could have done with a good cleaning No shower mat as my husband and I 68 and 73
Location was good
No staff, room was in very poor condition, there was a man banging on doors and shouting from 2am until 8am,I know that’s not the hotels fault but because there’s no staff, nothing was done about it,couldn’t wait get out of there,NEVER AGAIN!!
Location perfect for what I needed, staff were very friendly the bar prices were very cheap
Booked a suite was not up to standard, looked nothing like the photos, no bedside tables, hairdryer didn’t work.. paid more than cost of a double and not half as nice
Absolutely disgraceful property
Everything Dirty, no TV in room, no running hot water, no wash facilities, no towel, no staff, alarms ringing all morning, no heating!! This place needs condemned.
Foul, dirty, no hot water, key card had to be re done 5 times in a 2 night stay unsafe
All of the above health and safety nightmare
Only a short walk to town & parking outside
Property visited 3 times purely to be local and it’s still falling apart with no updating or repairs in sight Rooms tatty Plugs missing off lamps & switches not working Shower cubicle faulty & toilet / basin so noisy room to room Very slow to replace items TV replaced as not working like normal tv
Great location with regard to my stay. Close to the railway station and town centre amenities.
I’ve used this hotel a few times over the years and will probably return. Previously I’ve Stayed in the main building and found the rooms to be of a high standard. On this occasion, in order to economise I selected a budget room that turned out to be in an annex off the main building. Whilst the room was reasonably well equipped, it was poorly ventilated with sealed unit windows that couldn’t be opened, and looked out onto a drab unsightly yard and wall. Additionally the decor around the radiator area was a mess and looked totally unfinished with exposed brickwork etc.
Easy check in and check out. Staff go above and beyond. It's not the best hotel in the world but the price reflects the standard.
Could charge more if the rooms were better and maintained but it's acceptable for the price.
Front counter staff good.
Arrived and told NO restaurant, so no meal that night and also NO breakfast. Nothing mentioned on the site. NO towels in the room. Half used shower gel in the room, mould up the inside of the shower cubicle, main hotel area wall paper hanging off. Room doors need damping, they just slam making a very loud noise.
Convenient for restaurants
The place was filthy overheated and stank
Nothing
Been charged twice, no contact details, even the number for reception doesn’t answer, Musty, Damp, very dated, scruffy, no one on reception, you have to ring a number & wait 10 minutes to answer and a further 10 minutes for someone to turn up Booking.com didn’t help either
Location
No staff anywhere
Nothing it's dreadful
No towels in the entire hotel, dirty, uneaten banana in room, no toilet role, half bottle of wine in room. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Absolute con.
Cheap
Uninterested staff, door didn't work initially, uncomfortable bed (never had back pain before and cannot stand up today), bathroom was dirty, complimentary mini toiletries had been been half used. No milk for tea/coffee. TV had been removed from wall. Bedsheets were stained.
The hotel has seen better days. The wallpaper is peeling in the corridors and the rooms. The staff were fine, although they could have been much more helpful, smiley and welcoming. It's not surprising with the state of the hotel. Considering the fantastic location, the owners have let the hotel fall into squalor. What a shame.
Nothing
Not impressed, just glad that my wife wasn't there to experience it. The hotel was run down. The room had poor quality or broken furniture and fittings. The mattress was stained and the shower was broken. I at 4.30 AM, as I couldn't stand sleeping in the room any longer! Disgusting standard.
Location
No proper curtains. No TV No breakfast Long walk and lots of stairs to room. No toilet paper on arrival Very noisy from other rooms Room key kept failing meaning a long trek back down go reception (3 occasions) Shower pressure very poor. Room not serviced Wiring of lights in Room very odd and confusing Hotel in general in very bad state of repair. Very very over-priced!
Location
The staff and room
My family and I booked a family room, where the door handle fell off and the shower weren’t fully operating. This raised safety concerns and hygiene concerns as only the bath water was in operation. I would’ve preferred to shower my children than put them in the bath. The smart TV weren’t working either, the remote kept disconnecting from the TV. It would have been nice if the family room had cots available
Nice staff, very attentive, , rooms very clean, bedding clean, towels very good quality,
Stepping out of shower high, for elderly people with mobility, however, shower very good and hot, heating in building hot, however opened windows to allow fresh air circulate
It was as described by booking.com and their reviews. The main hotel is s avery old building being refurbished. The room I stayed in is in the Crown suites next to the hotel. It was very clean and comfortable but in need of some repair in places.
N/A ...it was as expected
The bad was ok.
The staff were not very helpful, when you could find them, many times we waited in reception for staff to appear There was no food available at any time during the day. The bar was closed all the time. Our key card had to be reprogrammed each day. Coffee in the room, enough for one day and not available on request. We requested a ground floor room and were given one on the first floor. With it's very dated decorated. On many occasions we rang the hotel during the week before we arrived and couldn't get any reply after leaving a message requesting a call back. So in the end we paid for a bed and nothing else. We'll not be going back and advise nobody else to book if they are expecting a hotel.
In the town centre
Rooms were dirty, musty smell, no hot water, contacted reception via telephone and email, no response
Bathroom wash spaces , bed was comfortable
Shower soap
Nothing - all the floors creaked, the bed was lumpy, the toilet didnt feel fixed to the floor, we had a plastic bag covering a broken pane of glass on the window, the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold and there was a permanent stain at the bottom of the toilet, not to mention cobwebs, dirty floor and broken bathroom tiles!!!!
The shower was broke no shower no staff on rection to sort in evenimg or in the morning to tell kept me up all night as water was running. Staff was also miserable when turned up
The location was close to the wedding venue we were attending
My room was allocated outside the hotel in the annex. I was allocated room 204 on the ground floor. The room was at the end of a long corridor with a fire door exit. The glass was cracked this made me immediately feel unsafe as a woman staying on my own. Once in the room the ceiling lights did not work and I was unable to open the windows the let any air in as there was no window handles. The bathroom sink and floor area was not clean and the carpet area was badly stained. Overall the room was hot dismal and unsafe in my opinion. The only saving grace was that the bedding was clean. For £78 one night no TV no tea/coffee facilities it was appalling. Oh and there was even a plastic food box with a packet of rice in one of the cupboards. I think it goes without saying that I slept very badly and could not wait to leave as early as possible the next morning. My daughter and her partner also stayed in the same annex on the first floor and their experience was the same however at least they were able to open their window.🙁
