Reviewed Aug 4, 2026We have stayed at the Howey many time before we go to our fly out fishing resort. We like the convenient location closer to town. Weve had issues with bears at the super 8. We enjoy the price and the bar is nice.
Our room was filthy. The floor was damp and I had to wear shoes it grossed me out. My husbands socks were black with dirt. The bathroom was also pretty gross. We had a white towel on the floor that turned black with filth from the floor after showering. The beds are okay. The TV kept cutting out.

Reviewed Mar 27, 2026Location was excellent. Had dinner at the motel restaurant which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Handy to have a restaurant right there. In the morning I needed milk for my coffee and the restaurant provided it at no cost. Bed was comfortable. Blackout curtains good. Staff very friendly.
What could have been better had nothing to do with the motel. I have an electric vehicle and the only EV charger in town did not work. It would be great if the motel had a Level II charger, but that's not something very many motel/hotels do. The only other thing was my fault. Somehow I reserved two rooms. I have no idea how I did it. Because I had booked through booking.com, the motel said that it could not correct the mistake.

The staff didn’t seem interested in resolving the issue. No other rooms were available to change to. Carpeting is old and needs to be replaced. Pretty gross.

Reviewed Mar 16, 2025I don’t recommend anybody using any online services to book at howey bay in red Lake Ontario. You have to pay extra once you check in, incidentals. I was charged for extra cleaning for 6 person room, we cleaned the room, but no damages to property.

We did not like the extra tax (municipal) that was added when we arrived. We don't mind paying the tax, but we would prefer to have it included in the price when we are looking at the motel under booking.com.
