Provider-sourced guest reviews.
room was very nice and good value for money.
bar was very busy due to the hotel holding a wedding and only having the one bar available for wedding guests and hotel guests.
Location and friendly, helpful staff.
Nothing specific, but TV in the room was very temperamental.
The bedroom was of decent proportions, and the shower room and adjoining facilities were OK. The reception staff were kind and helpful.
The bed was as uncomfortable as any I have ever slept on, with a mattress that gave very little support. It should be condemned. The concept of a glass-fronted bathroom is flawed. A light put on in the middle of the night disturbs the occupant left in bed, not a great idea. I understand buffet breakfasts, but the surplus staff could and should serve/top up tea and coffee.
Nice hotel with spacious rooms and lovely grounds.Breakfast very nice
Glass doors to shower room
it's a nice place and has lots of open space to roam
the shower and toilet are glass so when your sharing with your partner it's not very private for using the loo. the beds are just 2 singles pushed together
Location
Receptionist was rude, very noisy hearing people outside the room and doors slamming, door knob broke, stains all over the carpet
I liked the attention of the staff. The breakfast was satisfactory. the grounds have got great potential.
The room could have done with a facelift, although I'm grateful that our room didn't have a glass walled shower like the new rooms have got. I wish someone had gone around the garden picking up the litter.
Location nice French doors in bedroom
Menu was expensive I lacking variety
Cozy away from busy towns good pricing
Slightly dated fixtures but still pleasant
Rooms were lovely & comfy Plenty of parking Receptionist was welcoming and helpful
Nothing
The setting is lovely, good food, especially the vegan burger
Staff not always around, ciuld hear them chatting , had to wait or wander around a few times to find someone
Everything.. A perfect stay as usual..thank you.☺️
Location, to Melton Mowbray and in a nice village
Rooms could be upgraded alittle
The room was ok as we had been upgraded to a suite
The food. The evening menu had very little choice. The breakfast was terrible
Was a handy location for where we needed to be.
Dirty tablecloths in the restaurant, sockets not working in the room and the shower was 2/3rds covered in black mould. And the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a glass wall. Which is not a good set up if you want to have the curtains open and youre on the ground floor!
the room was comfortable and spacious with a lovey view of the garden
the bathroom plumbing, especially the toilet which often ran and ran after flushing. No toilet brush meant that it was difficult to keep clean.
Large room and comfy bed with access to outdoors via french windows which was convenient as we have 2 dogs. Pleasant village
We had to move room as the tv was not working but this was efficiently dealt with
Very disappointing — and the complete lack of customer service afterwards has made a poor stay even worse. Within hours of checking out, I realised I had left a pair of tracksuit bottoms in the room cupboard and returned to collect them. They had apparently disappeared. Reception promised to investigate and contact me the following day, but nobody did. I then complained in writing and asked the hotel to investigate what had happened. I have received absolutely no response — not even the courtesy of an acknowledgement. I accept responsibility for leaving the item behind. What I find unacceptable is that it could disappear so quickly after checkout and that the hotel seemingly has so little interest in investigating or responding to a legitimate guest concern. The stay itself was also very poor: the beds were extremely uncomfortable, there was virtually no privacy in the en-suite bathroom, and the soundproofing between rooms and corridors was terrible. Mistakes and problems happen; how a hotel responds to them says a great deal about its standards. In this case, the silence and lack of accountability speak volumes. I would definitely not stay at this hotel again and do not recommend it.
Excellent stay
lovely SETTING AND NICE BEDROOM
TV for executive room far too small and didn't work either, breakfast plates stone cold so when luke warm breakfast plated up it was not good, choice for breakfast disappointing, no option for poached eggs.
Country setting
The room had a horrible damp smell, our tv didnt have a plug or a remote and we had to request one, it wasnt as clean as we expected.
Lovely hotel
Plenty of parking, easy to find. Comfortable bed with very large room for the price. When interacting with staff they were very helpful and friendly.
Advertised car chargers were all non-functional, and seemed to have been for some time. Not their fault, it looks like people have reversed into them or they have been vandalised. That said they NEED to remove the option from their facilities listing. I had to seek out staff both in the evening at the bar and in the morning for breakfast, on both instances waiting over 5 minutes for the receptionist to track them down. Overall the hotel is tired and worn. No A/C in the room and the windows were sign posted that they should not be opened due to maintenance, the sign was quite worn, indicating that they had been that way for some time - my advice would be keep that room as a fallback - not as a primary supplied room. Breakfast was mediocre, clearly good ingredients, but long warmed over sausages and beans - it was like a school dinner. Scrambled egg was very bland. Coffee was served from a vacuum flask and was luke warm and frankly gross.
More signs showing way to rooms and to reception
Clean rooms Good parking Nice breakfast and room service was excellent
Bit outdated
Very clean room, breakfast was tasty & warm, waiter who worked the breakfast shift (didnt catch his name but he was a young lad with glasses) was incredibly professional and polite, a real asset to your team.
It took us about 10 minutes to find a member of staff upon arrival to check us in. My partner literally had to retrieve someone from the bar area to attend. The bathroom walls in the rooms are literally glass panes with the odd frosted glass block, that might work for some but I certainly didnt appreciate my partner being able to see me whilst I sat on the porcelain throne, i wont ever return for that reason regrettably.
LARGE BED, AND BATHROOM (SHOWER A LITTLE SLOW ON WIDE SETTING POSS HARD WATER BLOCKING) WINDOWS COULD HAVE BEEN OPENED AS NO WORK ONGOING OUTSIDE, AND EVEN IF SO THE CATCHES WERE POORLY SECURED. OVERALL GREAT LOCATION FOR MY NEXT DAY AND CLEAN TIDY, PARKING FREE WHICH IS A BONUS AS SO MANY HAVE SOLD THEIR LAND TO A THIRD PARTY WHO RELISHES THE CHANCE TO FINE YOU IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER IMMEDIATELY ON CHECK IN !!
NOTHING REALLY, ALL AS ABOVE SO LITTLE ROOM FOR COMPLAINT
Food and service was excellent
Rooms were basic but good enough, could do with some TLC
The room was great for one adult and two kids. It felt like a little apartment.
Closeness to centre & venue we were attending
Reception area a little small, breakfast food lukewarm, drinks cold (had to ask for fresh drinks). Bar & restaurant staff seemed inexperienced
Surroundings, location, friendly staff,
The visit was spoiled by Brekky Nice hotel, our stay included breakfast comprising of full English, cereal or continental, but the restaurant and bar were very cold. Hot food was plenty hot but ass soon as served on your cold plate in a cold restaurant, your food is lukewarm by the time you return to your table (or bar if you have a dog), and cold by the time you've finished eating. Even the customers were returning to their rooms for woollies !
Location Room service: lovely pizza
Mattress not strong enough for 2 people Very tasteless gin and tonic
Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice
Everything was good.
The location and setting was beautiful. The food was very nice too. The room was large and had a gorgeous view!
Whilst the food was very good, the prices were a little steep: we were initially charged £17 for a 2-course child's meal (1.5year old!). The restaurant staff were very friendly but inexperienced, and didn't appear to have much support!
Room was ok size and on site parking is good.
Breakfast was poor and the room we stayed in was a bit tired.
The staff. The location. The room. Breakfast on the first morning was cooked and served to us at the table. Dinner (steak) on the second evening was god and amazing value.
Breakfast on the second morning was quite dismal. Frankly it just felt like a ‘convention’ hotel. Gardens which could be magnificent were neglected.
Good size bed and very spacious
Bit dated, bathroom could do with modernising
Stayed a few times in the past ... lovely comfortable and clean rooms .. good value for money
Nothing
Ideal location for an overnight stay for us. Staff lovely and owned and run by the Fed of Trade Unions so we are supporting trade unions as well.
Staff were pleasant, nice place to stay.
Good location and plenty of parking. Friendly staff.
Comments below and ratings are about the twin room I shared, not the double room I booked, as this was used last minute by a friend. My bed was so soft, it was dipped down in the middle even before I got onto it. I had two nights’ poor sleep. There were several long dark hairs on the bathroom floor from cleaner or previous guests? Black mould in silicone sealant and tile grout around bath. Really ought to be tackled before it gets as bad as it was. Price is ok but wouldn’t stay here again, facilities are tired and the place needs a refurbishment. Bar awful. They didn’t know how to make a liqueur coffee and it’s depressing to sit in, no atmosphere and poor furnishings/ decor.
The room was very spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent breakfast.
We were dismayed to find that, although we were on the ground floor and our window looked out onto a busy outdoor area, there were no net or voile curtains and anyone could look straight into our room. This meant that we were not comfortable to lie on the bed in our underwear on a very hot afternoon. The problem was compounded by the ensuite bathroom having a glass wall only partially obscured by stripes so, not only could we see one another at the toilet but so could people outside.
Spent a very nice 3 nights here recently on a visit to the area. Hotel is quite impressive on approach with some stunning outdoors areas. Room was extremely comfortable and spacious. The bed was divine and very comfortable! While the glass box bathroom is very modern, it leaves literally nothing to the imagination, so some couples may find that uncomfortable. Our room was crying out for air-conditioning, particularly as it was 28 C outside and the room is on the ground floor, so leaving windows open all night wasn't a good idea (although this wouldn't be an issue in cooler temperatures). Also, we couldn't get hot water in the tap or shower or a morning for some reason. Fine on an evening though. Would definitely stay again though!
Nice location
Overhaul a nice hotel Good breakfast
The hotel is so clean with amazing staff.
A wedding was taking place and from our bedroom you could not hear the music and celebrations which meant we had a super nights sleep.
Attractive location, spacious and clean.
Nothing
The staff were brilliant, food good, room clean, nice gardens to walk around following day, convenient location.
The see through ensuite bathroom, the hotel and grounds very busy due to a wedding party.
Perfect for a night's stay prior to our son's graduation at Loughborough university. We had a pleasant drink in the garden the night before and very good breakfast in the morning. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The hotel is an extended Grange with some rooms newer than others but it's all very pretty. The bar was a nice area with a TV showing a World cup match at the time.
We were there on one of the hottest days/ nights of the year with no air conditioning so a little difficult to sleep. When we took our drinks outside there were free tables but they all had lots of glasses and plates from previous occupants so there seemed to be a lack of staff available to clear tables.
Hotel, location, staff, food, car park free.
Large ceiling light to bright and only one bedside light.
Nice spacious rooms and seating area outside
The staff didn’t know much about serving drinks at the bar made lots of errors and didn’t come across as like they knew what they were doing
Beautiful hotel with spotless room and super comfy bed.
Nothing
Mattress too soft
The friendliness
The wedding disturbed us
Staff and location
Felt old and tatty. Waited for breakfast only for the buffet to be delayed. The staff did offer to cook something. However, I like the breakfast buffet and was looking forward to it, so I left.
It was a good location for my needs, parking was a plus.
Stains on the carpet and ceiling in the bedroom; mould in the shower, shower temperature gauge didn't work so the shower was scalding hot; bed was very large which was great but the mattress was lumpy and made for a tough night's sleep.
Room was great for a family, great breakfast selection, staff lovely
A little dated decor in the room (little peeling paint etc) but didn't affect the stay
Clean reception and spacious rooms. Function room was lovely
Pillows abit lumpy
Not a lot, old dated and no life. No staff on hand. Lots of waiting around and being ignored.
The fact that there was hardly any staff, the place was very dated and lifeless no vibe at all. A real disappointment, I was given a room that had not been turned around. So walked into towels all over the room and an unmade bed full bins and an awful smell. I was told I would be getting half my fee refunded. This is still yet to happen. Such bad service, no bar staff on. Staff that were on looked absolutely knackered and fed up !!
Clean, modern, airy. Very friendly and efficient staff at check in.
- Sehr nettes und hilfsbereites Personal - Saubere, zweckmäßig eingerichtete Zimmer - Gutes Abendessen - Gutes Frühstück - Genügend kostenfreie Parkmöglichkeiten - Parkähnlicher Garten - Rundum gelungen und echt empfehlenswert!
Great setting with a lovely garden. Food was excellent & staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location, the grounds and staff
A bit outdated
The location
Too many to mention Booked an executive room Very poor inside the room, problem with the blinds opening. Shower continuously dripping, bathroom very poor. Only 1 towel provided Pillows very lumpy and uncomfortable Music playing very loudly directly below our window until midnight. Smokers directly below the window too Hotel overall very tired, staff very unmotivated as probably realise the problems and know complaints can’t be sorted. Overheard reception telling a customer that a previous guest had broken the TV, and unable to put them in another room, it’s probably an excuse that is used on a daily basis.
It felt unloved but the staff were lovely
It was poorly maintained
Ausreichend Parkplätze
Lüftung im Bad funktionierte nicht. Frühstück für diesen Preis absolute Katastrophe.
Loved the place, people place and location ace!
The only downside of a beautiful place - Breakfast table cloth not clean and unfortunately sat next to a window with dead bugs/flys on the window sill, I know this can happen but such a shame given the room was fab
Accessibility for my disabled Son who is in a wheelchair
Lot's of doors to negotiate to get to our room
Breakfast was a standard good breakfast. No scrambled eggs but that is purely preference. Lovely meal the first night we got there, great price and freshly made at 8pm. Extra kudos to the 2 gentleman working Friday 10th and the young lady working Saturday 11th AM for sorting our issues. Lovely and friendly.
Checked into our room, no tv remote, no signal on TV. Popped downstairs to reception, fully booked and no spare tv remote. TV ariel had been stolen from the back of the TV. Luke warm bath and my partner went to shower and the shower head wouldn't sit and kept falling down. Mould around the bath and plug. Saved my the helpful people mentioned above who moved our rooms the next night and complimentary drink while waiting. They are a credit to a hotel that needs some love put into it.
It’s location, character and charm, it felt both exclusive and welcoming in equal measure
Nothing
The gardens
This hotel needs a complete revamp No staff at the bar Glasses left on tables all night Blind was broken, marks on the wall I would not stay in this hotel
Location was great , and grounds were lovely !
Poor quality of rooms bathroom toilet did not flush in first room . I then got moved to a higher grade room which was nice . But sink tap was loose and about to break , no plug for sink as it was broken , windows only opened about an inch and room was stifling hot due to 35 degrees heatwave and no air con it was unbearable !! When I asked reception for a fab there were none available , I did finally get one for the 2nd night but it did not make much difference . There was no fan or extractor in the bathroom so all heat and condensation from shower went into the room as bathroom was a glass partition in room . Staff were lovely but very inexperienced . Bar area was dirty we had to ask staff to clear tables or do them ourselves . Bar itself was more of a collection point for dirty glasses etc we even asked a member of staff to clear the area of dirty glasses!
Location very nice, for Loughborough university graduation. Gardens lovely, with outside sitting areas.
Rather run down, paint peeling from windows etc. Signs on windows instructing not to be opened, but stifling in room, with over 30 degree heat, and no ventilation. Opened windows anyway, to find all adjacent room windows were open too. Only one bedside lamp for double bed. No tv in room. Room was spacious enough, but dated.
The location, was beautiful and the Hotel too.
The atmosphere.
Good location for Loughborough and the setting was very nice
The room was very hot (although it was 35C outside). The blind was broken Both rooms were not made up on the 2nd day.
All good
The glass en suite so I could watch my wife do a dump.
Gardens
Property, rooms and bathrooms needs upgrading. And some areas need more regular cleaning
Beautiful outdoor area to eat at. Rooms were nice and beds were very comfy. The only slight issue was the weather being very hot and the towel rail being on very high and not being able to turn it off. Did not spoil our stay. We asked for a fan for our room
Heated Towel rail off in hot weather
Location Quiet
Bathroom unclean Sons room had no base sheet on his bed Dining room for breakfast was covered in carpet moths flying around and a couple on our table Room unbearably hot - needed fans in rooms Rooms (standard double and twin ) and hotel very outdated needs renovating
The original house and gardens are very attractive. The bedroom was spacious with pleasant decor.
The foyer and communal areas are dated and reminiscent of a care home. The bar was understocked and the outside tables remained dirty during the evening. Cups were not taken in and tables were sticky. Breakfast is overpriced.
We had the best time and the staff were so helpful and brilliant.
No air con or fans in the room and it was hot
Stayed there often..always very good.., see yiu next time..soon !!!
See through bathroom in upgraded room..seemed a bit strange 🤔...everything else perfect.
Good that breakfast was included in the price. Nice room....BUT don't like that glass bathroom which leaves little privacy. Comfortable bed, but no air con in the room and no fridge.
General level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired - especially a lot of dust and cobwebs in the dining room. However the worst thing occurred on the afternoon of the 2nd day - we were in the room when there was a knock at the door and before we had the chance to answer a member of staff opened the door with a card key - he had two other people with him, made some excuse and left - when challenged he said something about checking the system and would get back to me (which he didn't) This left us both in shock and concerned about the hotel security policy which lets staff members gain access to rooms in such a way. I reported this to Reception the following day when we checked out - they apologised and advised that they would report it to Management when they were in - I have heard nothing since. This put a dampener on what had up till then been quite relaxing - My message to the Hotel Management is to ensure that you have a security policy in place regarding accessing guests rooms!
Location was good and grounds large and nicely kept.
Asked for bed to be split into twins and advised this couldn't be done as they didn't have any single duvets in the whole hotel. Also due to it being a hot night and no aircon had to have the window open and kitchen extractor on all night so very noisy. Hotel was busy so had to wait 30 minutes for a table and half the food was not available. Lastly the shower was out of order in the room and sign said use the bath which was a huge corner one as in a suite. All in all just not very good and for £165 a night not worth it.
N/A
Checked in at 15:15, been given the key for the room, but they were behind with the cleaning. The service from the receptionist was poor, she doesn't know to reply when told thank you. Surely, some respect and training is required. The shower was spacious, but the painting was coming off the ceiling. Can do some maintenance if expecting good reviews.
the rooms a re very large, quiet and the beds particularly comfortable. The usual facilities are there: tea and coffee, very large shower, television etc and a particularly pleasant, rural setting within brief walking distance of the local small town amenities. Dinner was very good (comparing very favourably to the buffet - see below).
the hotel decor is becoming a little jaded with flaking ceilings etc in some areas. The televison appears not to function in a number of rooms and the buffet lunch (at £15 per head) for our party was pretty spartan. Whils very cheerful and helpful, it is clear that many of the staff are given only rudimentary training.
Too many guests turned up for breakfast at the same time which made it difficult for the staff to cope. However, the food was good once I was seated at a table.
Too busy or not enough staff on reception and at breakfast- understaffed
Tv didnt work. Wifi didnt work
Tv and wifi. Breakfast below average
TV in room faulty. Free wifi doesn’t work Food was poor, breakfast average Room comfortable and clean. Nice location Hotel is extremely dated and basic
It was perfect for the birthday party we were going to in the village. The parking, staff and breakfast were all you could ask for.
There was nothing not to like.
Clean and tiday
Limited bar menu
Good location
Gone down hill having stayed here a few times previously. Gardens now looking unkept.
A pleasant experience with nice clean rooms and helpful staff.
The greenhouse-style bathrooms leave nothing to the imagination if you are sharing a room.
Nice location and outside areas. Food was good over the weekend and staff lovely, could have done with more of them on Friday evening though.
Our room needs refurbishing, we arrived in temperatures over 30 degrees to find windows closed with signs saying do not open and a blind that wouldn’t stay up. Fortunately, the very helpful guy on reception said it would be okay to open and we had to improvise with the blind. Metal plug in sink had come away. Only one bedside lamp.
Possibly the dirtiest hotel I've stayed at. Stained floors, dirty cups in the room, wall paper peeling off, the hallways smelt like a care home and dead flies everywhere. The receptionists tried to help with fans as the heated towel rail would not turn off (in this heat!). There was a wedding going on so incredibly noisy. Apparently only two rooms were not part of the wedding yet we were overlooking the gardens and above the function room. Kids knocking on the doors and running away. Again receptionist was good and said she'd speak to the wedding party and it stopped. Doors are thin so you hear everything. No idea how they say its a fire door with a huge gap at the bottom. I can't get my head around the good reviews on here. I should have checked TripAdvisor first which shows the true state of this run down dirty hotel.

Electric car chargers don’t work TV in the bar should be bigger
Stayed in a better room this time to last, thankfully with no glass goldfish bowl for a en suite. The room was slightly dated but the bed was comfy. My husband had to retune the TV so we could watch. The windows bizarrely has signs saying to only open in a emergency. The room next door didn't have them? The location of the room was away from the reception and facing the carpark. There was a tapping noise but fell a sleep until I woke up with the bottom of the chair on the matress and the chair had turned from the original position? I took a photo instead of waking my husband and had to push the chair to get out of bed. When my husband woke and I asked why he had moved the chair he said he hadn't? I got dressed and didn't go back to the room. When I mentioned this to reception, the receptionist said thats the reason she doesn't work nights? The breakfast wasn't as nice as last time. The hotel is in a traquil location with beautiful grounds.
