Pretty village, large garden area and car park
Very basic room, dated bathroom, the toilet seat was smaller than the toilet. Poor soundproofing from upstairs. We were woken at 6.30am by people walking about and talking. In the evening we waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive
Room was clean and the ensuite was ok Good location and plenty of free parking. Breakfast was adequate although not a great deal of choice. Ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. Staff in restuarant were friendly .
Room was alongside the hotel car park and fairly noisy On occasion there was an unpleasant smell of drains in the ensuite.
Restaurant met zowel Engels als Indase gerechten. Vriendelijk personeel.
Grote van de kamer, afmeting 2 persoons bed, spiegelgladde badkuip met douche erboven.
Friendly staff. Great breakfast and tranquil location.
Nothing.
Very nice inn, with welcoming staff and very nice Indian meal (other options were available) - in fact, best Indian we've had! Breakfast was nice but breakfast service a bit haphazard. Very dog friendly and plentiful parking.
No fruit choice at breakfast, which would have been appreciated.
Great location; good size, clean room; (superior double)friendly staff, easy parking & a very good restaurant. Breakfast served from 7am week days.
I’ve stayed here several times & enjoyed each visit but as with most relatively recent conversions the dividing walls don’t have the best soundproofing so even normal noise from adjacent rooms can be intrusive.
From the outside it was lovely, nice location and inviting frontage
The pub itself was nice but once you got behind it, the beautiful facade disappeared, taking in to consideration that this was a £130 a night room. It was dated, you could feel the springs through the mattress there was dust everywhere, the toilet once flushed took nearly 30 minutes before it could be flushed again, the bathroom again was cheap, the shower water pressure kept disappearing, I presume every time someone else flushed their toilet. It looked like the hotel had changed the shower because the holes where the previous taps had been hadn’t been covered up, and the room we stayed in neared no resemblance to the images on the website. We went for a meal, if you are vegetarian there is only a small amount to choose from but we ordered from the Indian menu, we ordered a Dahl which was so salty it was inedible so they made us another, which was worse than the first, really disappointed I’ve stayed in better £40 hotels
Ideal place for our trip
Warm and Friendly staff, delicous evening meals, huge room, extremely comfortable family bed, bath and shower in room.
Nothing stands out on this.
Location was great, was in a lovely village. On the first morning the breakfast was overcooked. Only had cereal and toast on the other mornings but that was because that was enough for me. Room was very comfortable and there was a bath which was a bonus. Food in the restaurant was very good and a lovely room. Lovely staff, very friendly. Loved the beautiful large screen of rolling pictures of Nepal.
Just the breakfast on the first morning but sure that was a one off.
The curry
Bedding not clean and noise from other rooms and ceiling noise
The food was good
The room was very basic, poor shower and the bed was like concrete
Nice village. Lovely building. Relaxed feel.
The bed was ok, but could’ve been more comfortable.. Can hear the TV from the room next door very clearly.
Village location The Indian cuisine & menu
Rooms badly need a refurb/refresh....
Lovely quiet location, nice big rooms, friendly helpful staff and we liked the choice of Indian food or pub grub.
Clean but basic rooms Very friendly staff and great food
Breakfast starts at 8am which is too late I feel Sounds travels very easily through the rooms so noise from other guests even moving around their rooms was very noticeable
Nice rooms, close to Burghley which is why we booked it. Quiet location.
The beds were very hard and uncomfortable.
Good size bedroom with tv and free WiFi. Food was excellent steak cooked to perfection and a choice of Asian or classic menu the curries were excellent tasty reasonably priced and well presented. Staff incredibly friendly. Parking on site and free. Clean sheets and towels, abundance of hot water.
A bit tired looking in places.
On reflection, very little although I guess that's what you get fro the price.
Paper thin bedroom walls made relaxing all but impossible as the people in the adjacent room had their TV too loud
Lovely staff. Nice good size room with large bathroom. Good food
Bar drinks expensive
Great food. Friendly staff . Comfortable bed
I was on the ground floor & the noise from the floorboards above was loud … as if two baby hippos were having a dance above my head at times … it settled down but I did wonder about floor covering? Carpet or floor boards? Sounded like bare floorboards
Lovely quiet location in a beautiful old building Room in modern block at back Staff friendly and helpful really accommodating for our dog - food in pub was good - village really pretty
Squeaky bed but it was comfortable
Amazing place indeed too stay at loved every moment esp the room.was massive then expeceted and so much more cozy then the last propety i was at in corby the area was very quiet and peaceful but only let down is if u dont drive its a hard distance getting too and from as there aint no shops round the area :/
The location was in a small village so very peaceful, whilst being a short drive to several attractions nearby. The room was very clean. Breakfast was fine and cooked to order. A choice of British classics or very good Indian food in the restaurant. Friendly staff.
Nothing
Comfortable bed, friendly staff, the breakfast was superb, plenty of parking, lovely old charm Inn in a lovely village
The pub is in a lovely old village with outstanding houses, the area has a feel of the Cotswolds.
Nothing, we stay twice a year and will return.
Breakfast was very good. They served me in the bar area rather than the restaurant so my two dogs could stay with me which was very much appreciated. Lovely location and nice garden at the back of the property. All the staff were friendly but professional. Very pet friendly.
Nothing really. My only minor gripe... The shower over the bath was powerful but on the first night I had lukewarm water only. This had sorted itself out by morning though and wasn't a big issue.
Evening meal was good, breakfast was ok but cooked breakfast was awful. Bacon fatty, not cooked, sausage the same. Fried eggs brown underneath, tasted of sausage fat
Room, both bedside lights not working. Bathroom dark , light inside shower hanging down with wires showing. Lights were pat tested 2023 , is this legal ? Stains on carpet in various places.
Friendly staff, didn't have to wait too long before someone came to the reception desk, explained breakfast times, clear instructions on how to get to our room
Nothing, everything was perfect
Clean, lovely room, food excellent
Cant say I disliked anything
Very characterful building, in a lovely area with plenty of parking space and very friendly staff. Our room was very spacious with a separate seating area. Food in the restaurant was excellent, both English and Asian. My husband loved the goat curry! Not too keen on the pre-order breakfast but it was ok. A special shout out for Chloe, who was our waitress in the mornings. A lovely girl with excellent customer service skills and a credit to the business. Would definitely come again.
As mentioned above, the pre -ordered breakfast
Love the garden, quaint building, powerful shower, lovely relaxing breakfast room with the zen landscapes and music on the tv and sizeable well equipped room with 2 fans. Comfy bed.
Shower temperature fluctuations, old stained carpets, no shops in walking distance so take drinks in with you (although the bar there is lovely), very small t.v.
Lovely old pub in great location in delightful village. Great evening meal with home cooked curries. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Good
Room size, bath, excellent food for breakfast and dinner, friendly helpful staff
Nothing
Loved the restaurant, food was exceptional.
Phoned in good time prior to arrival date to request g/f room, however, didn't get one!
Great location in picturesque village
Mobile phone reception not good in the area
Beautiful thatched main building. Lovely room. The Food was to die for. 2 menus, traditional and Asian, and you can mix and match. Amazing
Nothing at all.
We loved it so much we extended our stay! Lovely environment with delicious food including authentic curries. Staff are warm, friendly and helpful. Our go-to place in Rutland.
We’ve stayed here several times now and love it. The staff are super friendly, food is excellent, our room was spacious and comfortable and the parking is free. Beautiful, quaint and historic location . Thank you for another marvellous stay! 🙏
Fantastic helpful staff, lovely accommodation. Great value for money. Great breakfast in the morning. We also had amazing food in the restaurant on the evening (extremely tasty curries etc)
The staff were kind.
A little short staffed on dinner service and inexperience staff at the bar but nevertheless tried to be helpful.
Usual friendly good service from all the staff
Great breakfast, very reactive service when some lights did not work, nice room with comfy bed. Delightful rural location with dining options within a couple of miles of you don’t want to eat in the Indian restaurant of the hotel.
Stained carpet, lights not easy to work, no lift to get up to first floor with a heavy bag, but I suspect we got allocated the room as I had a healthy teenager to lug the bag upstairs :-). No hairdryer in the room.
Beautiful location, breakfast and evening meal excellent, dog friendly and pleasant friendly staff
The only problem was that we couldn’t get the shower temperature right so opted for a bath and the water wasn’t hot enough. This was in room 11
We had drinks in the evening on the patio then a meal in the restaurant. The food was delicious. A good standard of both English and Asian fare. Breakfast was great too.
For my wife and I absolutely nothing!
Both excellent
Breakfast till a later time.
Quaint
Nothing to not like
Excellent restaurant, efficient friendly staff, Ideal location for exploring Rutland, superb room - a memorable and highly enjoyable stay !!
Nothing .
The room was an adequate size for a one night stay, it was nice to have a bath in the en-suite. We arrived a little late for dinner but the manager/ owner offered to keep the kitchen open which I found very thoughtful. The breakfast was very nice.
The beds were a little firm for my liking
Great Indian Food
Lovely location and a very attractive main building. Plenty of car parking. Room was a good size, as was the bathroom. Nice to have full-size bath. Communal and dining areas very attractive.
The main window of our room was at the level of the carpark, so cars and people very close by. The bed fitted sheet was too small for the bed. Breakfast on the first morning was awful, inexperienced, but friendly serving staff. The cooked breakfast was borderline edible, even after waiting 30 mins for it. Eggs, poached, for my wife and fried for me were overcooked and the bacon and sausage barely cooked. We took this up with the manager and was told it wasn't the usual chef and all would be well the next day. We did not risk it! I had stayed here the year before and had a great experience, so was very disappointed to note the change.
All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Comfortable rooms. Great breakfast and lovely meals in the pub.
Everything fine and enjoyed food
Location. Friendly helpful staff, food both evening meal and breakfast
The television in the room had a very weak signal that made it mostly unwatchable not particularly important. The mattress on the bed in room 11 is well past its sell by date where the springs are completely collapsed on the right hand side making for an uncomfortable night
Comfortable rooms fan was great with the heatwave we were having. Plenty of parking , really good restaurant and great breakfast. Large garden outside with plenty of seating
Nothing.
Great curries
The smell of curry was even in the bedroom. The rooms had a little pre-fab feeling about them.
Nice village. Water in room and good fans as very warm. Nice garden with tables and umbrellas. Lovely old building and nice staff although definitely not enough to cope with breakfast time.
The shower fell apart as I used it. It came off the wall in 3 parts. The shower side over bath didn't fit so water ran down onto floor and had to use 2 towels to mop up. At breakfast the table wasn't layed. Went to get cereal but no fresh fruit, had to ask for yoghurt. No cups out for coffee or glasses for juice so had to ask. The same for cutlery. Cooked breakfast had eggs with pepper already sprinkled on them but I don't like pepper all over eggs. Nothing was nicely cooked sadly so was not enjoyable.
They secured my Bike overnight in the "Snug" nothing was too much trouble Evening meal was excellent
na
The person at the reception (Nepali guy)he’s simple and down to earth attitude. Caring, and room were also good and finally loved breakfast.

Great location in a quiet village - ideal if you’re visiting the Rutland area. Rooms basic but clean.
Nothing really.
Easy to find, great area, good parking.
Not so much the property but other guests with dogs were inconsiderate left dogs in their rooms alone and they were whining and barking for a long while. Rooms didnt seem particularly well insulated and you could hear toilets flushing and showers running.
The staff were very nice, the food was good, it was good having fans in the room
The bathroom drains smelt terrible, the toilet didnt flush properly and the toilet seat didnt fit properly, the beds were so uncomfortable could feel the springs, the curtains didnt fit the window properly and the blind was white so could see through it and it had mould on it, the milk was whole milk which isnt nice in tea at all. And could hear everything upstairs it was ridiculous it needs sorting maybe some thicker flooring or sound proofing
Great location near Uppingham + comfortable + parking
Urokliwy hotelik, miła obsługa i pyszne jedzenie. Czysty i przyjemny pokój.
Super cute and wonderful spot
Great location in a quiet village. Comfortable bed in modern accommodation block separate to the pub/restaurant. Plenty of parking, nice grass area with picnic tables. Dog friendly. Staff were very friendly as well.
There wasn’t anything to dislike although the breakfast could have been more organised and my poached eggs were overdone , however it was busy and it wouldn’t put me off starting again.
Great location and plenty of parking. Spacious room on first floor. Breakfast was included.
No air conditioning and one fan. Skylight had no blind so room became light early.
Lovely location, friendly staff, food very good, indian food excellent. Sadly the breakfast on our last day was a huge let down. The buffet table was a complete shambles. Coffee only just warm and very weak, bread put out in bread bags. Several people had to ask for cups and plates and juice.
See above
Staff assisted us very good and changed room for us i had broken my arm and needed walk in shower facility food was excellent
Exceptionally clean, well presented, quiet, fabulous staff.
Nothing, we enjoy our stay every time
Great place to stay. Lovely breakfast. Delicious curry. Best I’ve had in a very good while. Lovely, friendly helpful staff.
The room was very clean and the location was beyond our expectations. The pub is a wonderful step back into 16th Century.
The mattress was just adequate as was the breakfast.
Good breakfast and evening meal
A little noisy from room above
The Marquess of Exeter is in a very picturesque village and ideally situated for Rutland Water and surrounding areas. Very comfortable bed and spacious room. Good food and very helpful staff.
Always a warm welcome , good Value and great food catering for all tastes.
We were able to check in early so we could drop our bags off and start our day.
Bathroom was a little bit dated and had mould in the silicon around the shower recess.
Room was very clean. Had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. We had privacy blinds as well as black out blinds. TV signal fantastic. Good coffee and tea facilities. Bathroom very nice. Towels lovely and soft. Free toiletries. Clothes storage wardrobe. Plenty of drawer space. And on ground floor, which I liked due to me having mobility issues. Great outdoor relaxing and drinking areas. Very quiet area , very welcomed. Restaurants with both English and Asian dishes. Lovely breakfast. Fantastic friendly helpful staff. Lovely old building with plenty of character. Very reasonable prices on the food and drinks.
Could do with hand rail on the wall near the shower and one on the wall at the other end of the bath as I struggled to get in and out.
What a wonderful find! Stunning inn in a beautiful village setting. We only had an overnight stop off during long drive, but would certainly return for longer. The staff were beyond brilliant, friendly, helpful, welcoming, efficient and kind. Superb Indian food in the evening in tasteful and welcoming setting. The price was incredible value for money. I have stayed in places 3 times the cost not even close to the excellence of here. Delighted to have been provided with room fans on the hottest day of the year, allowing us to sleep soundly. Absolutely loved it here, made all the more wonderful thanks to the gorgeous staff.
I love my morning coffee and unfortunately the machine was only topped up with water rather than coffee grounds, equalling a pale brown fluid far removed from a nice morning beverage. Small disappointment as everything else was tip top!
It was a good place to stop over, The Indian food menu is much better than a traditional restaurant, the full english breakfast was also very good.
The room was okay, but the bathroom sanitary, ie, taps & plugs need upgrading.
Charming pub in a really pretty village. Rooms are clean and comfortable . The menu is excellent with firm British favourites as well as the most delicious curries you can imagine! Staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is free and off road.

Great location & very friendly staff. I’ve stayed here a number of times & always chose to pay extra for a superior room which is located in the annex…not only bigger rooms but recently refurbished. Very good food served in the restaurant & when I was last there mid week lunchtime meals were fantastic value at half price. Breakfast available from 7am which is cooked to order. I visit the area on a monthly basis & have tried several other accommodations in the same price range & on balance, if available this is my first choice.
Like many old converted buildings the walls of some adjoining rooms are not completely soundproofed, so if you’re a light sleeper & get unlucky with the residents in the room next door this could be an issue. Having said this it’s not been a real issue for me.
Not much. Very grubby, inside and out. Room crawling with bugs, alive and dead, light full of dead bugs, something brown smeared on the curtain, toilet seat didt fit, manky loo brush, cheap plastic bath that moves and creaks when you are in the shower. Breakfast a joke. 'Cold buffet' was cereal and milk, and bowl with three apples and three bananas in it. Room small, cheaply furnished, in a horrible boxy accommodation block in the car park of a beautiful original building in a chocolate box village. Dead plants, stale smell, paper thin walls. Didn't have dinner so can't comment on the food but the manky back door of the kitchen lying open onto the car park was enough to put me off anyway. Likes to list itself online as a 4 star hotel...by what scale? Not AA anyway.
Shame I can't add more pictures.
Nice and clean old English pub style property located in a very quiet country village. Serves amazing Indian cuisine as well as english pub food. Rooms are re-supplied with tea and coffee each day Staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Only minor niggle is the coffee is very weak.
Loads of charm
Great location for Rutland water
It definitely had an aroma of Indian food as soon as you entered the place. Shame as it was abit off putting. If we had know it was an Indian restaurant Maybe we would not have booked it prior to this.
Friendly welcome. A choice of Indian or English menu in the restaurant. The food was excellent and well preserved. My room was also excellent. Very clean and comfortable.
