Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Clean units in good condition. Bed nicely firm.
Comforter on bed too thick. A lighter blanket would have been good as an option as well.
Good location just off hwy 6. Five minute drive to Wiarton.
Driveway needs paving.
Comfortable beds. Very clean. Quiet.
For the price we paid this was an excellent location. The room was clean. Staff was excellent.
Cleaner than I thought it would be. No bugs, no clock radio, no info on running direct TV.
Friendly staff at the reception greeted us at our arrival Around 9pm. Very smooth check in process.
There was no breakfast offered. No restaurant.
Micro wave did not work well. We thought there was a restaurant?? Smell was not very good.No charger for phones.Air conditioners very noisy.very limited tv stations.motel very out dated and run down.
Everything was exceptional loved the overall experience there
Nothing to state for discomfort or something we don’t like.
good sized parking lot. Mattress was ok
Sheets had stains on them, the shower head was so old and full of calcium you only get 1 stream of water while it is also spraying up towards the ceiling., the window and screen were out of the door and the window air conditioner is fairly loud. Killed a bunch of bugs that kept coming in through the bathroom. There is a metal down spout that sticks out and ends right at head height by our door. If you are not looking up while you walk into the room you could slice the top of your head open.It should be connected to another piece and go down to the ground. Overall it is pretty run down. It feels like a cheap $50 room at best but I paid $200+. Wouldn`t stay there again

Great place for the price. The staff was friendly, the check-in process was quick, and the property was neat.

We had an amazing stay at Shenstone Motor Inn & Restaurant! It was by far the best motel experience we've ever had. The rooms were newly renovated, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated, making our stay very comfortable. The owner was incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Although we visited during the off-season and the restaurant wasn't open yet, they thoughtfully provided a complimentary continental breakfast, which was a wonderful touch. Thank you, Shenstone Motor Inn & Restaurant, for your outstanding hospitality. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. We look forward to visiting again!
Had a wonderful stay! The location was perfect for visiting Sauble beach and hotel staff made us feel home. Rooms were spotless, spacious and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable visit. I highly recommend it and would gladly stay here again!
Room was big, nice and clean.. Comfortable bed..
The friendly greeting by the owner, even though I was a very last minute booking. My room was upgraded to a King sized bed. The shower looked newly renovated.
The noise of the trucks and cars on the road. My room was right next to the office which is closest to the road.
Everything as specified. Met expectatives, fair for price.
No cafeteria or ammenities in the facilities, but it's at 5min from town so no prob.
Clean and spacious room Very friendly welcome
The location was great for our Bruce Trail hiking plans. The room had good bones with floors, furniture and bath/shower being recently renovated. Hot water was always available and good pressure. Had power at the bedside table for our electronics. The fridge was big enough to hold our ice packs and contents of our cooler. Coffee maker did the trick.
The nights we stayed were abnormally cool but we could not get any heat in the room. It had baseboard heaters and the thermostat did not work. The stay would have been better if they had better quality linens - towels were rough, duvet was too light, sheets weren't soft, pillows were cheap flat things.
The lady at the reception was wonderful. The bed mattress and comforter was very comfy. Its right on the highway so easy entry and exit. Big open green space for kids / pets to play
No plug point where the coffee machine was so had to be plugged in the lamp socket.
Was literally 1 of 2 places available in the location during the season that didn’t cost 500 per night. So by that standard was great.
Crummy standard Canadian motel. Expensive for what you get compared to other countries. Hotel standards in Canada are bad. So it’s not specific to this motel. But still had to say it. There was a heavy snowfall. The owner could have at least shovelled some of the walkways even for the rented rooms which wasn’t many. If the hotel is not busy at least take the time to make sure the people that stay in are inspired to write a good review. I hate to see the quality when they are actually busy.
The rooms were nicer and roomier than other comparable motels we've stayed at on the Bruce Peninsula. They were very clean. Hot water and AC worked well. We stayed one night, a stop-over. There were no pets allowed but we were expecting to keep our mid-sized dog in our vehicle overnight anyway and there was a public park/trailway behind the motel; a lot of green space nearby. There are plenty of food options close by in Wiarton. Staff were very attentive.
The bathroom, although very clean and partially updated, was dingy. The door locks need to be updated! The exterior lighting was dim. Some bulbs in the room needed replacing. The "restaurant" was not open for breakfast. It's more of a burger joint. Extra damage deposit required at check-in. Had to get ice from staff.
Great motel, I enjoyed my stay, the rooms were clean and the area was very nice and convenient. The staff were also very hospitable. Food in restaurants was excellent- Must try Chicken Souvlaki. Overall I would highly recommend
Everything was good
Nice place to stay for a night traveling along the Bruce. Simple is what we were looking for, and this met our expectations.
Location and meal
No coffee supplied
Nice food in the restaurant and clean room
The staff is very good
Easy to find and it was clean
No heat and very cold at night. Broken thermostat. Toilet fan came on with light in a small room and it was very very loud. Small sitting area in restaurant which is part of check in area. Should not be called a restaurant
Picnic table by our room half broken and one side sitting on the ground, looks like old table legs/lights from renovation (?) piled up behind where we had to park. Weather stripping around door missing and could see light around the entire door, electric heat was not turned on in the room and got down to 8 degrees at night so we were glad we brought a fan/heater from home for background noise, shower temp was actuality really good, towels were very small for showering, showerhead was kinda terrible. Wifi was virtually non existent. We paid our deposit in cash as we do not use credit cards and they do not accept debit for depisit (what?!) and then was informed we could not check out early or we wouldn't be able to get our deposit back as no staff are on before 1030-11am?! Really?? We will not be back.
The room was clean and nice. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very nice and affordable. It's clear the owners have made many improvements.
The linens were clean but worn out. The washroom needs updating as well.
Clean and easy access are the main reason we like. If you need an affordable sleeping this is a good choice
The room was not clean. The powerful smell of the cleaning product that was used.
We had a very positive experience. The Lady at the front desk was very helpful about things to do in the area and getting us set up in our room. The room was also very nicely set up and very clean. The beds are real nice and even the accent chairs are comfortable. Perfect temperature as well, and everything worked. I strongly recommend people to stay here.
Pleasant manager. Property in disrepair. Flys in restaurant. Junk and broken items outside rooms. Plumbing temperatures reversed. Comforter on bed well beyond its useful lifespan. No kleenex. Bath soap shatters if dropped (its very old and dried out). Entrance door looked like it has been broken into. Curled corners on carpet. Greenish cast to room lights. Small tv with limited channels. Appropriate price.
I don’t recommend it.
We arrived at the motel around 3:30PM (check-in was at 4PM) and immediately had doubts when we saw the ripped screen on the door. At first glance, the room didn’t look too bad, but then we noticed flies everywhere. I went back to the front desk to explain that we were not happy with the room. Instead of offering a proper solution, the staff offered us bug spray and said, “you know we’re in the country.” We told her we’d rather not stay there, but she said they couldn’t adjust the reservation since it was made through Expedia and told us to call them directly. When we contacted Expedia, they reached out to the motel, who then denied the refund request. Would never stay here again and absolutely do not recommend this place.
Though the motel was located conveniently just beside the highway but the smell around the motel was not pleasant. TV in the room was not working and toiletries were off poor quality ( compared to the price charged) . However staffs were good.
Clean and renovated room! Reasonable price! I like there was coffee, microwave and fridge in the room to use. Beds were comfortable to sleep and nice garden space outdoor for bonfire was a good experience
The property was much older than it looked in the advertisement. The check in service was okay. The room looked much older as well and everything in general was worn out. Everything had a lingering smell from whatever has happened in that building before, the bedsheets, the pillows, blankets everything smelled and were not properly clean. Even the tap water smelled, we’re guessing the system of tubes is too old. All of our problem was that it was not as advertised. We knew full well we booked something modest but were expecting clean and comfy. The place was anything but that. The area also felt very unsafe. It was right on the street with random people stopping by and making noise, because the motel had a restaurant as well. We didn’t dare to try the restaurant. Overall, not a pleasant stay at this place. Would not recommend!
Front screen door slams with loud noise even when closing slower.. 3 people were registered only 2 towels.. one shampoo tube was 1/3 full and second was half full, meaning used… a bug noted in bathroom. Bed was comfy, room was clean.. nothing special, good for overnite stay… front desk was friendly..
Nice place and courteous staff
super friendly staff! very polite and hospitable!♥ great food and room service! will be coming back when visiting this area again!
Easy check in and front staff was quite friendly. The microwave and refridgerator in the room were very convenient. The motel was clean. The washroom and front door stuck a bit and needs to be checked. Overall, a very nice place to stay for the night.
Location can’t be beat, close to Sauble and only an hour from Tobermory. The lady at the front was very nice and gave us ideas of things to do in Wiarton, however, the motel is old and not very clean. Our room had dead squished house flies on the walls and mirror.
The property was out of the way, but still close to wiarton and shopping. Stayed two nights with my sister. Would definitely go back.
i like this place. staff was good and helpful
Absolutely one of the worst stays I’ve ever had. I know it’s a motel, so I wasn’t expecting luxury, but for over $330 CAD a night, this was beyond disappointing. The moment I walked into the room, I was hit with an overpowering spice smell that made it hard to breathe. The bathroom was the worst part— the bathtub was so dirty I didn’t even dare to shower, which has never happened to me in any hotel before. On top of that, there was no ventilation in the bathroom, and the sink smelled like sewage coming back up from the drain. For this price, the very least you could do is keep the place clean. Disgusting experience, and I will definitely never return.
I went to this hotel in 2019 when it was under different ownership and included breakfast. I mistakenly thought they would still have breakfast but they didn’t. However that was not my main complaint, I booked on Hotels.com and the rate for 3 people in a room vs 4 people in a room was the same amount so when I mentioned that a 4th person my aunt had decided to come they advised me to give them $20 cash. The sheets were a Christmas theme but the room was very clean. There should be a second lock on the 2 doors in the room such as a chain lock to make customers feel a bit safer.
Best place if you are planing towards Tobermory , it’s close to Sauble beach and also on the way to Tobermory . Clean and great service
We highly recommend
The sheets were dirty , shower was slippery , room smelt bad.
Convenient location. I've stayed here before.
Shower curtain needed to be replaced!
I don't usually leave reviews but I'm doing this for constructive purposes and not out of malice because I think this is probably a family run business and I really respect that effort. Though the place appears clean on a quick look, the attention to detail isn't there. There were dead flies in the window sill. A dead fly in the coffee cup, not to mention flies in the room that kept getting in somehow despite me killing at least 10. There were hairs in the otherwise apparently clean beds (big long black hair in both beds under the sheets). There was hair on the towel. There were stains/substances on the mirror and tv screen that should have been wiped off. I can tell that they're trying but the standards need to be raised way up especially when there are so many other places they're competing with in the area. We stayed for one night before a backpacking trip but would not stay again due to the cleanliness. The lady at the front desk was very friendly when we checked in but the office was locked with a sign saying they'd be back at 11am on the Monday morning when we left. I wanted to give the feedback in person as online reviews can seem impersonal was unable to. It's a very old motel that needs a bunch of money injected to bring it up to standards and could have potential. The water in sink/shower had a smell to it which might be a local thing but if you want to run a business in Ontario you've got to have high standards on everything, especially at todays prices.
Cleanliness is poor.
I booked this property for an overnight stay while travelling. Late at night, after checking in I went to the room and I left immediately. The room was filthy. The room was not clean at all, dirt and grime built up in the washroom, debris on the floor. If at a quick glance I seen this much filth I cannot imagine what the bed and other areas were like so I left. I asked them for a refund but they refused. I continued to travel and found somewhere much nicer and clean 20 minutes away. I highly recommend not booking here this is not worth sacrificing safety, cleanliness and peace of mind.
Experienced a massive WiFi outage at the property for the entire first 24 hours of our stay. Might not have been an issue if it had not been for the fact that the cell coverage in the area is horrendous at best. Knowing this to be the case, I chose this place because of the free WiFi so I could keep tabs on my diabetic family member. The staff were sympathetic, offering the use of the office phone to call if needed, but the fact that there are no room phones and I could not even monitor the app to tell me if I needed to call the family kind of made that a moot point. Overall, the rooms are fairly up to date, with the exception of the bathrooms. The bedding has some staining issues from excessive use (darkened pillows, off-white whites etc). The motel is just outside of Wiarton, and the highway is super dark. There is (what seemed to be) a single light bulb illuminating the sign, so we missed it once while returning after sunset. While we were not dissatisfied, I am not sure we would return or recommend the place to friends or family.
I highly recommend this place for its cozy rooms, friendly staff, serene atmosphere and customer service.Better wifi quality.the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home.i cant wait to come back.
Not offered
Mirrors not clean - television screen very dirty- several light bulbs not working- towels were small and the bare minimum of towels were supplied
Coffee machine didn't have any creamer. Place needed better cleaning. Bedding was old and worn out. No tissues, no disposable glasses in bathroom. Restaurant was hot and dirty. Description says office is open 24/7 but was locked in morning at check out time. Restaurant was unlocked but nobody there. Won't be back.
Good
Acceuil A1. Chambre A1. Lieu A1. Tout est parfait Tres propre . Acceuil chaleureux
Le bain ete pas parfait . Mais c passe pour la proprete de la chsmbre . Linge parfait tres propre
overall good place to go if you want to rest after long drive and good location 15 minutes drive to sauble beach and 58 minutes drive to tubermory
I wish we had read the poor reviews about this hotel before they swindled us for $200. We wanted to book a hotel on Manitoulin Island, but it required ferry service to get there. We didn't want to book the ferry until we knew we had a place to stay, or vice versa. There's no cancellation policy for ferry reservations, so we made reservations for this hotel via Travelocity. The website stated there was no cancellation policy for the hotel (which should have set off red flags in the first place) - then offered us cancellation insurance. We bought the cancellation insurance just to find out the ferry was no longer taking reservations. So we wanted to cancel the hotel booking, but the hotel refused, even though we had no way to get there, and when we called the cancellation insurance company, they said that we couldn't make a claim because we didn't have a ferry booking! This is intentionally set up to defraud people - the cancellation insurance isn't really cancellation insurance except under extremely unlikely events, and the hotel bookings are set up to generate income anytime ferry service is unavailable via cach 22 policy where they always win and the customer always loses. I will never use Travelocity again, and I cannot recommend a hotel that refuses a refund just days after taking a booking with lots of time to re-book with someone else who can arrive without a ferry booking. Dishonest business!
Due to inclinement weather Cruise services have been canceled for two days, due to that I requested to the Hotel Authorities and Expedia please give a credit note instead of cancel my stay however they didn't consider it and they deducted full amout from my credit card. So whoever is going to stay with them please take care of these conditions.
Great place to choose as a motel. Good and friendly staff.
Nothing!
Everything. I went through a few negative comments in reviews just after booking, but decided to proceed, assuming it could not be that bad for a late-night check-in and an early check-out the next day. But I was wrong. The room was so disgusting, the toilet, bath, bathtub, etc, were full of stains. Shower curtains were not replaced for months. The towels and bedsheets were as old as the motel. We could not sleep for the entire night. I truly understand the motels may not be as comfortable as branded hotels, but this was far behind other motels I've ever stayed in.
The owners were friendly, helpful and attentive. The outside of the motel units looked very rundown but the interior was clean, comfortable and functional. Close drive to Sauble Beach and Wiarton area for hiking.
It's scary. No phone service. No front desk service. It's odd that our signals are being jammed there, where none of our vehicle buttons on our key fobs to lock or unlock the vehicles would work. Be careful here.
Very basic accommodation. The motel is older, but the property management team does an excellent job keeping the rooms clean and tidy. The room and bathroom were spotless and the AC worked great! Staff were lovely people who clearly cared about the property.
Pillows were a little flat. Either more or fuller would be ideal. Bathtub didn't have a plug.
The staff is friendly.
We entered the room and found 5 dead flies on the floor and numerous living ones flying everywhere. The table was not wiped clean and has hair on it, the pillows and quilts smell, and the "air conditioning" is actually a window-type air conditioner that sounds non-stop. If I use it, the curtains have to be open. But this is a motel, we cannot leave the curtains open. The ventilator is clogged by dust and dirt. Everything is cheap-quality and/or not functioning.
Great location to the area as a base to explore. Although it is dated, it is clean.
Assolutamente nulla
Tutto, non è una struttura in grado di ricevere persone, sporco e non adeguato
Even nicer than anticipated! Our room looked exactly like the pictures in this posting. Sheets were super soft and clean. Front desk was extremely welcoming. The location is an hour from Tobermory sites, and was the perfect choice for our budget.
We did not stay there The room smelled of cigarette smoke and the beds looked like some old comforter s and pillows with old pillow cases were thrown on the bed The bathroom looked old and dated and the fridge and microwave had rust on them
The sign was not lit up at night so we totally missed the place and ended up in Wiarton proper
Too bad
Bed uncomfortable, bathroom small,no hand towels, Lock to door hard to work. Blind in front of A/C makes window so any one can see in. Not worth the money.
Dishonest business - stay away!!
amazing customer service, friendly staff
they need to pay attention with cleaning and also the bed i got was making sound every movement i do
Very noisy. Could hear doors opening and closing all night.
Had a great stay at Shenstone Motel! The rooms were clean and cozy, with comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms. The AC worked well, making it perfect after a hot day. It’s right on Highway 6, very easy to spot, and just 15 minutes from Sauble Beach. We booked in advance, and check-in was smooth. The place was safe and reliable as we were a girl gang. The bonfire under the stars was a beautiful experience, and there's lots of open space to enjoy. The food was amazing – especially for a vegetarian! Their Garden Veggie Burger and Falafel Pita were delicious, and the staff even served us after closing hours when we arrived late. The staff were kind, understanding, and very helpful. Honestly, a 10/5 experience – highly recommended!
