Harbour Hotel & Spa Salcombe

We really liked the staff they were very friendly and attentive. The hotel also had a nice relaxed feel. We also received an upgrade that was a lovely surprise.

As far as we were concerned we booked bed and breakfast. We were then told we would have to pay an extra £10 per person per breakfast if we wanted a cooked breakfast. We believe booking.com should have informed us of this when we made the booking.

Parking was dreadful. Dinner menu and service poor. Appalling noise outside bedroom every morning with refuge collections. Started at 6 am.Bed far too large for room size. Felt cramped etc.

Loved the whole experience, the food in the jetty was exceptional in the evening and breakfast was great too … the staff in the jetty were brilliant from the bar staff to the serving staff and chef … the receptionist was very polite and eased us into the hotel very professionally. We loved our stay and will be back …!

Friendly staff - valet parking attendant was excellent and staff on reception provided an excellent welcome. Lovely reception area with sofas, pretend fire, fresh fruit and water. Spa and pool were lovely and the cinema room a great find. Comfy beds in cosy rooms with fans when they became too hot. Excellent location and great breakfast options. Would definitely book again - rooms with views of the estuary are well worth it if you can! Salcombe is an amazing place, been coming for 30 years but always self catering, this hotel is a great option, especially if only staying for a few nights.

Drinks at the bar were expensive and there was some noise from the road outside when the windows were open and even with the fan we needed to open them to keep the room from getting too hot at night. The two different prices for breakfast was not made clear when booking and neither we nor the hotel staff knew what we’d paid for in advance. In the end we chose the continental option, which was excellent.

The parking is well organised and our room which was facing the river was lovely.

Our relatives stayed in room 301 however, this room was awful and whilst well appointed was like as described by a member of staff as Cell Block H - this room should not be rented out at over £200 per night. It is virtually below ground and in the recent heatwave have been intolerable. Such a contrast with our room.

The View was stunning but the hotel is a bit tired. No turn down at night or chocy on the pillow. Very old fashioned lift I used the stairs. Expensive room service.

Broken binoculars in the room, a boots travel hairdryer and the bathroom door needed some attention. Not huge things but at £400 a night you expect things to be perfect. They also needed a few more staff. Very nice but rushed off their feet. Long wait for one course - about an 1hr.

Driving up the steep driveway on exit! A few areas needed attention but I realise there is lots of wear and tear, especially by the water. Our balcony just felt a little tired, and the flat roof in front of it is quite unsightly- with seagull mess.

Location was fantastic. Not far from local amenities. Shuttle service nice touch. All the staff very pleasant and accommodating.

Cleaning of the room could of been to a better standard, however this was addressed and dealt with. There wasn’t anything really that was not liked about the property but more of the case of a property in need of some modernisation, particularly in the spa and gym areas.

Our room was too small for two people. Barely room to walk in. No room for bags. Air conditioning didn’t work. The window was bang on the pavement. The safe didn’t work. The plug for the coffee maker didn’t work. The bed was too small for 2 people. 4 pounds for a newspaper!

Stylish decor in the rooms and throughout the hotel, the spa was amazing - clean, high quality, very relaxing pool sauna and steam rooms, fantastic location walkable to town, stunning views. Lovely town with interesting shops suitable for families all ages.

The car park is extremely narrow and tight but the valet is on hand to support. Breakfast we were only offered continental which was a limited spread and a £10 per head upgrade for hot food which left a bad taste considering the hotel cost and quality

The room was quite warm during the night but we are in a heatwave! It didn't spoil our stay. I can't wait to go back soon!.

Gym a bit weak, very much for men, not much floor space for mats/stretching. not many leg machines for me. its was OK just would have liked a bit more space and more machines/weights. Cardio i think was good.

This is an expensive hotel so our expectations were reasonably high. There were examples of good service but also examples of poor service. In our room, the towel rail didn't work, the sink drained only slowly, the windows were dirty, the coffee machine didn't work properly, it wasn't possible to tell what the coffee pods were, only choice of biscuit every day was stem ginger and the corridor outside our room seemed continually to be the main laundry sorting area. The hotel restaurant food was very expensive relative to the quality and when we asked for a little tartar sauce they added nearly £4 to the bill! This is a greedy overrated hotel.

We had estuary view, unfortunately we had a building right in front. We were also expecting 2 sun loungers not one. It also said through Booking.com breakfast included, we didn't expect to pay for cooked breakfast. This should have been explained when booking.

When I booked it was with breakfast. We found that was only for continental on arrival, if you wanted a cooked breakfast it was another £10 per head, plus beware all the service charges they like to add. This is not a cheap place to stay and the additional charges I don’t believe are warranted.

Smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in for one of the most expensive hotels. The window was at street level with no light blind, either curtains closed or saying hello and waving to everyone on the main street. Could not sleep with window open as people could poke you from outside! £10 for a hot breakfast or more, a small continental breakfast provided and a coffee. Asked weeks in advance if possible for an early check-in due to a wedding, no urgency or desire to help at reception, they had 30 rooms ready at the same time early, not sure why they couldn't prioritise 5/10 rooms like other hotels. Car must be moved by 1pm on day of check out.

We had a four night stay arriving by car. The breakfast was excellent with a large variety of fruit and cereals. The Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent location very close to the town and ferry trips. Car parking was available for our stay.

There was two wedding parties which we were not told about which impacted on our trip. The spa also was out of order on Saturday all day. Couldn’t get served at the bar and the restaurant experience was poor.

Hotel was fresh and clean, no chipped paintwork, or tired soft furnishings. Welcoming warm fire in reception, views were perfect.

The restaurant prices for food and drink are too expensive. We ate elsewhere because of this.

Our room had a fabulous view over the estuary. Free gin was appreciated. We enjoyed the spa area. Great location, only a short walk into centre. Lady on reception was very helpful and professional.

Shower over bath, was a bit tricky to operate, would prefer walk in one. Parking a bit tight. An extra tenner for cooked breakfast seemed a bit mean when you are under the assumption breakfast is included.

Staff were not knowledgeable about the area which was a shame as we have never been to Devon so would have liked recommendations on restaurants etc or the best beach to go to. There was no air con in our room. There was a fan but the room got uncomfortably hot due to the weather so a little like a sauna when you came In from being out. It was very pricey - you are paying for the location.

We were given a lift to the bottom of town by member of staff one evening which was v kind as my husband is recovering from back surgery. Breakfast v good. Lots of choice for continental breakfast. Didn't have cooked options . Dinner was a slight disappointment. Overpriced for what we had and desserts took so long to arrive we left without them.

See comment above on restaurant. Parking is difficult but concierge took care of the car. Sadly weather was poor so we weren't able to use all the facilities such as sun terraces or our large balcony but that's England in May!

The hotel is well located with good facilities and lovely rooms and bathrooms. The menu and bar are super, and the continental breakfast is well stocked. A specific mention for Peter the concierge and Katie on reception for their help and assistance - nothing's a problem and I really appreciated their help.

The room balcony and balcony furniture needed something of a clean and a tidy up. Similarly the outside areas, floors, chairs and tables need some attention re: the local seagull population's unwanted deposits. The mini bar is rather over-priced, and the TV accounts had numerous people's details and accounts logged in form previous stays - that needs sorting! Please remember to delete your email addresses and IDs if you log in to Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime TV etc.! (Or someone else will order movies on your account!)

Breakfast was good

The staff were generally very pleasant and welcoming throughout our stay. The spa area was relaxing and well equipped, with a sauna, steam room, hot tub and loungers. The room itself was comfortable, with a good bed, modern décor, tea facilities and a Nespresso machine. The location and views are also undeniably beautiful.

The parking situation was extremely poor. The car park is narrow, steep and overcrowded, with some cars double parked, making it stressful to manoeuvre in and out. Outside porter hours, guests are left to deal with it themselves. The hotel also felt quite tired and poorly maintained for the price charged — our room had stains on the carpet and curtains, black mould above the shower, rust on the bathroom blinds and peeling paint around the window. There were also several small cost-cutting touches that felt out of place in a hotel charging over £400 per night, such as charging extra for cooked breakfast and not even including tonic water with the complimentary gin in the room.

Shower drain blocked, first night flooded the bathroom floor (although quickly sorted by maintenence the next day). A very average continental breakfast with little variety. Dinner in the The Jetty restaurant was good but very expensive. More than double the price of a good meal in town!

The good points were the excellent location, it’s close to the town centre, and the breathtaking views.

What can I say? The room facilities were disappointing. The ventilation was very poor, and at night, once we had to close the windows, the room became unbearably stuffy. I could hardly sleep. There was supposedly a complimentary gin provided, but there was barely anything left in the bottle when we arrived, which was quite off-putting. The staff were doing their jobs and were polite to a degree, but they didn’t come across as particularly welcoming or friendly.
