The hotel was clean and modern with a fantastic location and good facilities
It wasn’t made clear at the time of booking that the included breakfast was continental and you had to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. We felt this a little unfair for the premium price we paid for the room.
Wonderful location and room. Staff were super friendly and food was fabulous if a little expensive. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the room was a good size.
The bathroom fan was noisy and would have been better if it only came on when the shower was running instead of every time the light was switched on. Whilst it was really lovely to have a small balcony my toddler couldn't see the glass and banged her head a couple of time...maybe a well placed sticker would help :)
We were given an up grade to full breakfast on arrival which we thought should have been included in the price considering what we paid. The position of the hotel right next to the beach. The hotel bus that went hourly into Salcombe much needed. The young staff were efficient, friendly and caring. The spa was good especially on rainy days. The bed was very comfortable. Little touches like the gin on arrival and bottle water throughout our stay. The bedroom a tiny bit small but the balcony made up for that.
Being asked on arrival for £50 per night as a deposit against breakages I have never come across this before. My husband`s foot being stabbed by a thick plastic jutting out from the bed.
Supposed to be no dogs. Sitting on Terrace and was asked to move to a smaller table so non residents with dogs could have best table. Having to pay extra for cooked breakfast was unbelievable.
Staff were very helpful Location is excellent
Bit of a winding road uphill to get there For the price we paid be nice to include a hot breakfast No eggs , no tomatoes very basic.
Stunning hotel great spa and on the beach
Extra cost of £10 even for a bacon roll seemed extreme
A fabulous location at South Sands, just outside Salcombe, with lovely views across the beach and cove. There is a lot to like about the hotel, but overall we came away slightly disappointed. At this price point we expected a more polished, warm and attentive level of service. The staff were not unfriendly, but neither did the hotel consistently deliver the cheerful, genuinely helpful experience you would expect from a premium property. It is difficult to put your finger on, but at times it simply didn’t feel as welcoming or well managed as it should. Perhaps the end of a long season is showing, but the leadership team needs to sharpen things up before I would consider booking again.
One particular frustration was the tendency to prioritise laying tables for the next meal over allowing hotel guests to use the space. We were told we couldn’t sit at certain tables because they had already been laid for breakfast, lunch or dinner. One evening, after returning from dinner elsewhere at around 10.30pm, we wanted to sit together, have a coffee and play cards. A table was eventually made available, but the restaurant manager then told us, “You can’t be here all night.” For guests staying in an expensive hotel, that felt unnecessarily unwelcoming and rather summed up our experience.
Comfortable bedrooms. Lovely pool.
Not a comfortable bar/lounge area. The dining area felt a bit utilitarian. The staff on arrival were not very friendly, in fact the guy overseeing the car park when we arrived was extremely rude.
Modern, clean and fresh feeling
It didn’t have a magnifying mirror in the bathroom for shaving or make up.
The staff was just unbelievably helpful and caring. My son has a wheelchair as soon as we arrived we were helped by the receptionist. They gave us a bigger room and all sorts of compliments. The hotel is amazing too, on an amazing location. Only thing, please Devon people, make the roads a bit wider!
Albergo raffinato, servizi ineccepibili, ottima prima colazione.
Non particolarmente visibile l'indicazione che identifica l'hotel. Data la strada piuttosto impegnativa per arrivare, la visualizzerei un po' meglio.
Beautiful, relaxed, bed was extremely comfortable
Nothing to dislike
Location
Not all, but most staff weren’t the politest. I would say Daniel on reception was the exception - very helpful. The others not so much.
Everything! From the time you got to the car park until we left staff, facilities, location excellent 👌
Being picky normal table and chairs around the bar area. I got a bad back so the low seats were no good for me. That wouldn't stop me coming again though.
It’s an amazing Hotel the staff are super friendly. The setting for this hotel is amazing right on the beach , stunning views.
There was nothing I could fault it was our second visit Last August bank holiday and then again this year .
We had a wonderful stay and the view is unbelievable.
For the price you are paying the standard of service was not there. Girl on desk gave no welcome but Nick was fantastic.
The location and facilities are fantastic. Some of the staff interactions was excellent and as expected for a high quality hotel. Unfortunately not all.
I was disappointed with the level of service during my stay, particularly given the price of the hotel and the standard of service I would expect at this level. The younger lady on reception who dealt with me at check-in on Sunday came across as noticeably unfriendly and had an attitude that I found quite off-putting. Unfortunately, the same experience with her was repeated when I checked out on Monday. There was very little warmth or engagement, and the overall manner felt dismissive rather than welcoming. I appreciate that everyone can have a bad day, but when staying at an expensive hotel, the reception experience is an important part of the overall impression. I would expect staff, particularly those representing the hotel at the front desk, to be professional, welcoming and attentive. The hotel itself has plenty to offer, but the attitude and manner I experienced at reception fell well short of the level of service I would expect for the price. It was disappointing and took away from what could otherwise have been a very good stay.
The location was fantastic and the staff were are lovely and very helpful.
We were disappointed with the food in the restaurant- it didn’t spoil our stay but my husband had the steak and chips on the first night and the steak was chewy and overcooked and the chips were soggy and on our last night he had fish and chips and fish was dry and again the chips soggy and not cooked properly .
The hotel, staff and location was excellent but the food really let the place down and charging an extra £10 for a hot dried up bacon and eggs was a real let down considering the cost of the stay The staff were top draw a real asset to the hotel
Stunning location opposite a beautiful beach.Spotlessly clean. Beautiful rooms with very comfortable beds and even the partial sea view was stunning. Staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Food was delicious.
We were a bit disappointed with the cocktails but this could have just been us being fussy.
Location and service
The breakfast that’s included in the price was poor and the hot breakfast (which was good) should be included. Needs a more cosy lounge area for chilling in the evening.
Location was superb, and staff were very helpful
All though amazing location it’s very expensive
The breakfast was lovely and the location ideal. We had a sea view which was perfect.
Maybe more choice of meals and a different lunch menu with sandwiches.
Location is fantastic
Nothing I didn’t like
Location Hotel was stunning Facilities outstanding
Na
Everything! The facilities were fantastic and ensured we had a really relaxing stay. The view from our room was stunning, level warm decor and everything we needed. Above all though it was the staff who were just the best! We were made to feel so at home and comfortable for our stay, nothing was too much trouble and we really appreciated this.
Great food ,staff very helpful, fantastic view of the inlet.
Very narrow roads around Salcombe. Late breakfast ,7.30am.
Although out of Salcombe town itself, the location next to the beach was fantastic and the views from our room and the shared areas across the water were spectacular. We loved it, and it felt very special. The hotel facilities were great and the staff were awesome. Whom ever we spoke to, we were made to feel very welcome and they were very helpful.
Facilities, restaurant, location, gin, comfy beds. Catered well for coeliac diatary needs.
Partial sea view terrace unusable. Two people can't sit together and overlooks next door's balcony. I would have booked a different room had I realised.
The location is stunning very nice that you can have breakfast & dinner with a lovely view. Air conditioning brilliant
Realise it’s a beach hotel but outside relaxation areas sunbeds very grubby and stained. All looked a bit dirty and please please take the tea/coffee station out of a wardrobe, the musty smell that it creates in the room not very pleasant.
Location & facilities
Lack of a positive customer service approach by one party on the front desk and one server in the restaurant
We loved this hotel. It had everything the wow factor on location. We enjoyed the Spa treatments. Rooms were lovely. Staff were amazing
The constant extra charges are always going to annoy people. Instead of charging a tenna extra for hot breakfast just put it on the price upfront. Bar charges abd charges on top of the £10 for serving breakfast is a bit much. We didnt let it spoil our stay but others may see it differently. Breakfast service was a little chaotic
Excellent location and friendly staff
Dirty hand towel left on the sink on arrival
It had such a nice friendly feeling
Location & staff!
Nothing!
Position stunning
Restaurant food not good. Quality of the food not good enough for the hotel. It’s a real shame. Staff were helpful and friendly. Shuttle bus into Salcombe very handy. Cleaning of the rooms excellent.
Location, comfortable rooms, staff good service and attentive in main. Great location, good parking, lovely spa
Poor comms at breakfast on one occasion severe kitchen delays not communicated well. Tea making in the cupboard, delaminating due to steam the shelves and surrounds. And mould smell therefore in cupboard. Bathroom a little tired and door surround starting to rot at bottom. Balcony flooring not finished to a good standard, flex in planks also made feel like tipping forward, weird sensation!
Superb location, lovely staff, the best hotel airconditioning ever! this is an annual visit for us as we take the family to this hotel to celebrate several Birthdays over a long weekend.
The hotel is looking a little tired in places, as it's been open 5 years now with the sun beds stained and grubby and some litter. They need to up their GF offering as the restaurant at the sister hotel seems much better for this. My last gripe was the surprise addition of a £50/ per night surcharge taken when you check in despite having paid in full for the rooms in advance ( over £5K) and being return guests.
The location and the room were excellent. We stayed in a Superior with sea view
The food was very average and the breakfast was poor based on the price of the items
The room was fantastic. Big comfortable bed, and clean and tidy. Did have a slight odour in our room, which we think was from the cupboard with coffee machine in it. But not a big deal. Balcony was lovely addition.
The spa was not as good as we expected. Hot tub was the temperature we assumed the pool would be, and the pool was very cold. Sauna a steam room good however.
Great room and location.
Nothing
Location
Paid for bed and breakfast then charged £10.00 for 2eggs
continental breakfast was excellent plenty of choice with any tea or coffee you wanted
the restaurant menu was very limited especially if you stayed several days. the Sunday roast was good but there ability to meet other customer requests was poor lots of people including ourselves ate in the hotel opposite with a much more varied menu. I think this harbour hotel suffers from the same as others we have visited from there chef Alex Aitkins same menu. the only other complaint was the pillows were not up to the standard expected in a hotel of this standard.
Fantastic location, food and staff!
The spa area could do with an uplift and the water didn’t seem very clean
Lovely location but not enough parking and couldn’t find a space. Very helpful team member came and told us to park not in a space.
The property was good and the room nice but too hot. The behaviour of some of the guests wasn’t welcome and I wouldn’t stay again.very chavvy.
Peaceful location in an idyllic cove. The room was comfortable and luxurious. The spa was very tranquil and I enjoyed swimming, beach yoga and the spa treatments.
We wanted to try the painting, but the hotel had ran out of supplies. There were no water sport facilities, such as paddleboards for hire.
We were given an upgrade on arrival; to a beautiful room with a view. Staff were super friendly loved the location very confy bed.
I felt that at the price point cooked breakfast should be included not as extra. At breakfast it felt as though the team were understaffed, they handled it very well though.
The buffet breakfast was good, though we thought having to pay extra for a cooked breakfast was a bit cheeky. Our room was very good. Our only gripe was with those who design these hotels/rooms - why do they persist with installing baths with a shower for us seniors climbing over a high bath can be awkward. Also there was no shaving mirror for men and trying to wet shave was difficult.
See our comments above
Loved the location and the breakfasts were excellent, continental but with a delicios array on offer.
Hard to think of anything, maybe there could be a more lighter snacks on offer.
The location, the facilities, the friendly staff, the massage with Mel was very good, the bed was very comfortable and the air-conditioning was very welcome.
Wonderful location
Beautifully situated, just metres from the beach, the location is absolutely perfect for a peaceful getaway and the views are gorgeous! All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, the facilities are great and the shuttle service into town is really convenient. Would absolutely stay again.
We got a sense things may not be as advertised when the overzealous security guard made claim to being the concierge (his lanyard and clipboard protested otherwise). That, sadly, was a high point. We dragged our bags through the liminal ‘beach club’ area with its piped music emanating from a lonely speaker to reach reception, where the generic yet tired decor leapt out to take centre stage. The friendly receptionist showed us to our room as we wound our way around an endless, heavily photo framed hallway (it must be a Guinness record). Yet it was upon entering the stairway where the interesting combo of feet and fried chicken smell really came into its own. The hotel felt tired. In need of a rest. Like a hot pregnant cat who’d already suffered the indignity of many previous litters. In the room, they left us some gin in a large glass vase and a sullen Romanian gentleman soon came to demand entry for the bucket of ice he was touting. No tonic though… that’s where these smooth operators get you. No complaints about the room… perhaps except for the “valley view”, which had cleverly disguised itself as a static caravan park for our stay. We perused the spa area. A perfectly overpowering, industrial bleach smell ruined by a swimming pool. Dinner was rather nice. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy paying £20 for a plain Caesar salad. As we left the next day, we turned back in wonder. Never before have we paid so much and been so eager to leave. I would absolutely recommend, but for all the wrong reasons.
Great but think cost of stay should include cooked breakfast option if wanted.
Didn’t like the fact they added £50 per night (refundable)… why? Felt unnecessary. Also didn’t agree with service charge on drink being ordered at bar. Accept restaurant would apply a service charge.
The staff very friendly polite nothing to much trouble. Well worth going to
Lovely leisure facilities and a great location
Extra charge for cooked breakfast
Lovely Hotel modern whilst still retaining the charm of Devon with a lovely Spa as well
Staff very helpful and accommodating especially Wendy in the restaurant who went out of her way to make our stay even more enjoyable -will visit again
Over rated, they believe their own publicity
Most staff average, cleanliness poor, food good, menu boring and not changed during a week’s stay
Stunning location, we appreciated the curtesy shuttle going into Salcombe.
Nothing
Great views lovely hotel
Week day prices still a little pricey
Bedroom was beautiful & close to a beach
Pool & jacuzzi areas lacked atmosphere or any luxury. The tiles/grout & window around jacuzzi area was dirty. After going to lots of spas this was lacking. The balcony in the room was dirty, old cobwebs & lots of bird poo. The loungers around the pond were dirty.
Fantastic in every way
Nothing
Lovely setting, fantastic accommodation, great breakfast
A little way out of Salcombe, the caravans behind were a blot on the landscape
The minute we arrived we were looked after . They have a car park attendant who allocated us a space in their large car park. The reception team were very helpful and escorted us to our room and showed us everything . The room was amazing with a beautiful view . We had lunch there on the balcony overlooking the beach . The staff were very helpful and friendly . The hotel is right opposite a beautiful beach and you can get a boat ride to Salcombe . The hotel offers a free bus service to the town . There is a lovely spa area where you can sit outside in the tranquility of the countryside . We had dinner there and the food was superb and again could sit outside . We also had breakfast outside and although it is just continental there is a lot of choice . You can pay for cooked for£10 We hope to return
It was the first time we had been there and is difficult to get there but on leaving were advised of an alternative route which was better
Everything was excellent
Nothing
The location was perfect, opposite the beach. My husband and I feel that maybe a cooked breakfast option could have been included in the room rate. The continental breakfast option was very good but to have the choice of cooked included would have been perfect. The free courtesy bus was an added bonus and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Nothing
Such a beautiful location, lovely staff and everything was easy. It felt like we were on holiday and we will definately return! Classy touch with the complimentary Salcombe Gin!
all good
Absolutely beautiful! A wonderful place to stay
Noting at all to dislike
Perfect location
Nothing really, other than the evening meal staff weren’t as attentive as perhaps they might have been. Nit picking really.
Excellent
Paying for a cooked breakfast
Lovely views close to beach
Thought a cooked breakfast should have been included
Facilities, views and staff
Nothing
Just had the continental breakfast. Not outstanding but adequate with very good pastries The restaurant was up to my expectations. The food was good as was the service. The courtesy bus was a must, as the hotel is not within easy walking distance of the town centre, with a very helpful driver with good local knowledge
The room was on the ground floor, with a guest seeting immediately outside so therefore not good privacy.
Views where unreal
Nothing really it was lovely
Breakfast good… Location lovely but too hilly for our age group.. used courtesy bus.. but couldn’t walk anywhere..
Was not happy with dark room.. you stated partial sea view.. . but you should state for our room partial balcony.. only room for one.. that was what we were looking forward too.. at our age..
酒店本身及服务都不错,这次房间不面海,但山景也相当棒,餐厅不错。
由于小镇交通不便,需要提前提示接站安排,周末前台服务人员不足
Everything
The super friendly staff make this a special place to stay. Receiving Salcombe Gin on arrival in our room was lovely.
Everything
Very expensive drinks
The location, the view and the presentation of the hotel are fab - but sadly, this hotel is style over substance; the view constantly has to make up for everything else.
We asked for any room but a ground floor room - sadly, got a ground floor room. Instead we were put in a disabled access room as a compromise resolution; but everything here is a compromise - I don’t think I’ve ever heard the phrase “small surcharge” in response to so many things. ‘Free’ gin, but pay for the tonic. Breakfast included, but upgrade for anything more than pastry from a packet. Filter coffee, want anything else? Surcharge. We made the mistake of having dinner here. What should have been a fillet steak was a lump of fat and gristle: inedible. When they cleared our full plates, after no check backs all mean, the manager came over and said, he’s a chef and fillet steak is fatty!? Still unclear on that. The staff seemed rushed off their feet and there’s an air of mania in the dining room, even with an hour and a half to serve dinner, 40 minutes to serve breakfast… Maybe they’re just getting started for the season, but this hotel has a long way to go.
Lovely location and lovely hotel. Room was nice. The bed was so comfortable. Staff very friendly.
Advertising as breakfast included. But if you want hot food you have to pay a supplement. We were told about this before we arrived though. Hotel was expensive so feel like it could have included hot breakfast. Continental breakfast was nice though.
Great getaway Staff were really friendly and professional We will be back
coffee machine needs a good clean
Location and fresh
Nothing
Location, amenities, friendly staff, good food
Continental breakfast was very good with a nice selection of pastries and fruit. Restaurant was very pleasant with a good choice of food.
We were upgraded to a room with a sea view at no extra cost but it was on the ground floor and the outdoor terrace and hotel entrance were right outside our private patio space. Perhaps it would have been better to have been given a choice over which room we preferred as it didn't feel very private. Also, guests should be aware that this hotel is quite remote with a very steep, narrow twisty road to access it from Salcombe. The hotel does offer a shuttle bus service to Salcombe but this has to be pre-booked. There is also a boat service but not for the faint-hearted if the weather is not good.
Quiet, peaceful, beautiful views.
Cant think of anything.
Fantastic location.
Sunbeds could have been cleaner.
Location Staff Spa
Joining room had a party four with poor sound isolation which was tedious when neighbours talked till 4.45 am.
Location
Small room and bath has no safety rail.
Fabulous location, gorgeous clean rooms with amazing views, the complimentary gin, the fab breakfast, comfy beds, amazing treatments at the spa (and lovely spa staff!). We will be back!
The yoga class wasn't on both days, which was disappointing as it is one of the advertised perks along with the shuttle service being fully booked - would have welcomed a heads up about this when booking.
Location and room view were lovely
Not much of a spa, very poor breakfast you are charged for hot food so wouldn’t class this as a bed and breakfast like you would think.
Location, looks & space
No pool
Great place, amazing hotel and rooms with possibly the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in

The staff were INCREDIBLE! Especially Ashling! Anyone can work in a gorgeous location but these lovely people really do get it top notch!
There’s nothing I didn’t like - it was fab!
Fantastic location with great views. The hotel room was very clean and housekeeping was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower pressure was brilliant. The shuttle bus was an added bonus. The ladies working in the mornings serving breakfast were all so lovely, as well as the man running the shuttle bus service. The continental breakfast was excellent (it could have just had a slight variation day to day as we were staying 4 nights).
We were here as part of our honeymoon and despite mentioning it to the hotel upon booking, we didn't receive anything special apart from a note and a few chocolates. I've had more for birthdays! Expected more given the price of the hotel. They also put us in a room with scaffolding at the window which I didn't really appreciate as builders were working if we wanted to sit outside on the balcony. The cooked breakfast wasn't a great portion size and not the best choices for an added £10. Also, the free snacks could be more than just a couple of biscuits. Sadly, the staff on reception weren't the friendliest bunch! The dimmable light switches were a bit of a faff.
Location
Really great location, with a free shuttle in and out of salcombe. The hotel has a great indoor pool and is right on the beach! The rooms are lovely, and the housekeeping staff kept the place really today. The Spa had a good selection of treatments, and were very accomodating when we had to move things around.
Very minor points, but it’s just missing a few finishing touches for the price. For example they forgot to put beach towels out a few days, the sun beds were sandy and could have benefited from a quick pat Down, the spa had a few floating bugs and needed a clean, the sign said join us for Easter lunch and its two months past Easter. Nothing that impacted our experience, but minor points that you expect for the price.
Right on the beach
