Such friend staff and very helpful and accommodating

The location and general standard of the hotel.
A good location
Lovely place to stay, hard in the hot weather as unable to open the windows properly. But otherwise clean tidy and spacious rooms
Nice rooms, TV was abit small, but overall very nice.
The location and the staff were really nice and friendly.
There menus in the room for bar food but did not state if room service was availible.
Accomodation excellent, room spacious, good power shower. Staff friendly and helpful. Location on the river next to park excellent and walkable distance to town centre for off-site entertainment/dining good.
Chef issues with breakfast and evening meal, small but annoying - Eggs Benedict hollandaise sauce cold and 'Warm baked Camembert' - dish piping hot but cheese itself cold! Rest of breakfast/evening meal dining fine. Parking awkward for guests at weekend as bar visitors take all the spaces but the staff paid for parking on side of Embankment when unable to get into car park.
Great position, lovely riverside location with walks on the doorstep. Very friendly, helpful and attentive staff who were keen to make my stay positive. Comfortable bed, great river view, modern bathroom. Substantial breakfasts!
Some parts of the property are a little ‘tired’. I had problems with the curtains - high window which could do with a pole. I couldn’t move them from a partly closed position. Frayed curtain edge showed others had had a similar problem. Parking was a problem on the Friday evening. No on site spaces and surrounding area was for permit holders. As an elderly driver I would have welcomed advice on alternative parking.
Lovely location by the riverside. Super breakfast on the terrace. Friendly staff.
Short bed. Room at front of hotel was very hot. Woken by barrels being delivered at 7am on a bank holiday.
Lovely location overlooking the river, staff friendly and welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
Great location, lovely room, friendly staff, great breakfast!
I wanted a quiet place to stay - was in Bedford to support family members with illness - and it was great to just be able to go in and out at my convenience and there was no bar noise. Great setting too - so convenient . I had breakfast on the final morning - lovely, quiet but friendly atmosphere, good prices, v nice staff. I liked the daily light touch top-ups of water, biscuits, drink sachets etc in the room.
Nothing much, really! It's an old building but the room is sympathetically updated. I couldn't open the windows, though, and even with the Dyson fan supplied it was rather warm - but I guess that's just the current weather. The shower was hot and pleasant but seemed to spill a little water
Location. Staff.
Dirty room, stained carpets everywhere, reception dirty, filthy door in reception, stained furnishings. Unhygienic bathroom, not even basic cleanliness. Cobwebs on light fittngs. No bathroom door locks .
Beautiful location
Location
We paid for breakfast which we told is till 11.30am. Yet upon arriving in the dining hall at 11.10am we were told sorry you’ve missed it. We were so hungry and really looking forward to it so we were extremely disappointed. Lunch was being served from 12 noon and many people were still eating breakfast so the kitchen would have still being open and having paid upfront for it and also being a residential guest at the hotel we felt very ripped off and quite frankly disappointed by the rudeness of the staff and the poor service. Room was right up I’m the attic, was very dated and the bathroom was so old fashioned and shabby. Wouldn’t recommend.
A great location, very clean and comfortable hotel, courteous staff and a fabulous breakfast.
Parking can be hit and miss in the hotel car park as fairly compact
Lovely views
Tired and no lift
Location is fantastic, I liked the bar and the beer was great , very knowledgeable bar man. One night stay including breakfast which was really good

Great hotel and location Nice rooms

The friendly atmosphere and the location.
Our room was very warm, even with a fan. The window didn't open.
Excellent and caring staff Food was lovely Great location Lovely atmosphere
Not fault of hotel at all - hot rooms.. I was above kitchen which was noisy in evening - bit staff kindly [sorry] told kitchen staff to reduce music volume
We loved staying here. The room was big and had a river view.We had lovely meals and drinks.
The service was quite slow as it was so busy.
It was nice and clean The staff were helpful
The double bed was very small. Felt like a small double bed rather than a normal double
A great stay - staff were particularly friendly, welcoming and always willing to help. Food excellent. Bed was comfortable and tea/coffee/milk/water/biscuits all replenished.
The fan needs a really good clean. Would have preferred a walk-in shower, rather than one over a bath, although the water pressure was excellent.
Location & staff.

Great location. Really friendly helpful staff . Beautiful freshly cooked breakfast.
Rooms a bit old fashioned/ tired. No mattress protector but we were assured this is being addressed . The fan was filthy, hadn’t been cleaned for months throwing dust and crap all over the bed🤮. We decided not to use it as it would have been spreading germs.
Easy check in and lovely room. Air-con a welcome bonus for elderly parents. Tea and coffee and water provided daily. Staff were helpful and obliging. Were informed of an accessible room on a lower floor for our next visit...and there will be a next visit!

Was hot during the time we stayed -unable to open the windows wider and a cup was used - uncleaned

Location of the hotel was excellent, lovely room nice to have a fan for the hot night. Only small issue was the shower being in the bath so not the best. But overall really good stay would visit again
Shower in the bath
Location. Brilliant staff
Excellent location
In need of a refurbishment
The location on the picturesque embankment of Bedford. Ideal for town centre venues and at a good price. The terrace is a delight. Staff were very friendly and helpful
The room was very warm, would benefit from air con. Due to the heat we didn’t sleep great. Although there was a fan provided. A blind at the bathroom window would also be of benefit as felt a little exposed. Would also help to keep the room cooler The downstairs reception area paintwork looked very grubby
Nice relaxed vibe with attentive staff,in a lovely location
Location very good Staff were brilliant Breakfast first class
No A/C Locks on windows could not get good air flow ( but it was extreme temperature while we stayed )
Fabulous staff and delicious food
Nothing
Maybe position on the canal.
Dirty very dusty and impossible hot for May. It was a fun in the room but not working.
Great location, walking distance from the town centre. Beautiful view across the river. Room was excellent, very comfortable bed with beautiful bath and shower. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent. All together, a brilliant stay!
A repeat visit... warm, helpful welcome. We were early but a coffee on the terrace was all it needed before the room was ready! Smart double, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom. Very good beverage facilities with plenty of choice, including a small bottle of fresh milk - unusual to see, but most welcome! Wide choice of interesting breakfast options, again friendly helpful staff (consistently so). Nice atmosphere, the river-facing terrace is lovely and a great place to meet, entertain or chill!
Nothing, we'd happily use again and recommend to others!
Clean well presented room, friendly reception staff.
Clean and staff were lovely
Perfect in every way
The Australian male receptionist was great
The room was unbearable hot. Breakfast staff Terrible service
Good location and good customer care.
The food.
Location of hotel
Everything was perfect
Beautiful view of the river from our large and comfortable room. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Lovely breakfasts and dinners.
The only slight problem was that there was no doorstop for the main door outside our room. Sudden loud bangs when people opened the door fully as it banged into our wall.
Staff very polite and friendly
Nothing to say here
The Embankment is exactly what you expect out of an English hotel. It has a restaurant-pub downstairs, the rooms are cozy and you get the biggest selection of tea ever in our room. Location is right along the river, so great for walks.
Was great overall.
I really enjoyed my stay here, the staff went above and beyond. The bar/restaurant is very comfortable. The food was also excellent, especially the breakfast ! Looking for an excuse to go back :)
Went for a meal with friends and was embarrassed by the food - the staff were very nice and drinks great but I’ve never had such a bad steak - I had to leave half of it as it was tough and gristle and sinew thro it - 4 of us had steak and all were bad - again in fairness the starters were fine.
Beautiful location
A bit pricey
Staff and location
Slow restaurant service
All staff very pleasant and helpful Very comfortable bed Large room with a good view of the river
As a senior lady (75) with somewhat reduced mobility I found the steep stairs upto the second floor rather a challenge. Breakfast was fairly mediocre and tasteless and served in the bar.
**Review of The Embankment Hotel** The Embankment is a nice place overall, but it’s definitely limited by being an older building. There’s only so much that can be done with the layout, and it’s starting to show its age. The carpets could really do with a deep clean, and although the bathroom looked clean, it would benefit from a refresh. In general, the building feels well‑worn and tired. Breakfast was okay. On the first day the scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, and on the second day we had Eggs Benedict, which was better. The menu stated that a hot drink *and* a smoothie or juice were included, but I was only allowed a juice and a hot drink as the smoothie the 'OR' wasn’t offered, which doesn’t match what’s written on the menu. The hotel is very dog‑friendly, which is great for some guests, but there were a lot of dogs and it did smell like it at times. They would benefit from a more extensive NON ALCOHOLIC range of drinks. although the non rum I had was pleasant. Staff were great—friendly and helpful—but the place itself clearly needs some investment to bring it back up to standard. One major issue: **very limited parking**. This should have been made much clearer when booking. If I had known how small the car park was, I would have chosen a different hotel. you could park after 6pm on the road for free, but that wasnt where I wanted to put our car.
**What We Didn’t Like** - The building is old, worn and in need of investment. - Carpets needed a proper clean. - Bathroom looked dated and could use a refresh. - Breakfast quality was inconsistent (dry scrambled eggs on day one). - Menu wording didn’t match what was actually offered — I wanted a smoothie and a hot drink, as stated, but was only allowed juice and a hot drink. - Strong dog smell at times due to the high number of dogs. - Very limited parking, and this wasn’t clearly advertised when booking. - Need a wider selection of NON alcoholic drinks.
We stayed in this older hotel as it had character and charm in an excellent location.
Carrying suitcases up flights of stairs.
The location by the riverwalk and the Elizabethan style of the hotel.
Having to carry large suitcases upstairs.
Wonderful location opposite the river and close to town
The staff were so accommodating and thoughtful
A lovely character building with lots of natural charm. All the staff I encountered were very polite and professional. Nice big room, although it did face directly onto the building next door, about 20' away. Pretty good fried breakfast, which I took in the main bar, and was a very pleasant experience.
On-site parking is very limited behind the hotel but that isn't mentioned. Neither is the fact that the only other parking available is on the road out side the hotel. Free after 6PM but you do have to pay from 7AM onwards.
Views along embankment over the river, restaurant included
Taking our luggage upstairs
We were lucky enough to have our wedding at The Embankment on Saturday 9th of May, and it might just be the best decision we have ever made! Annalisa, Abbie, Tom and the whole team went way, waaaay above and beyond to make sure our day was as perfect as the weather we were blessed with! Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done with a smile and reassurance that everything was under control. The room looked perfect, exactly as we imagined it, the food was fantastic (as confirmed by all of our guests, who were blown away by it) and the service was just perfect. We had the whole hotel booked out for the night and only heard positive things from the rest of our party about their experience. We had our room for 2 nights and it was lovely. The breakfast on both mornings was delicious. We have eaten there a number of times, and each time it has always been lovely food, and we were so pleased that our guests could experience this delicious food as well. The location next to the river is also fantastic, and with the weather playing ball helped add some magic to our day. Overall, though, what made it, was a wonderful venue, staffed by some wonderful people that are obviously excellent at their jobs! We can't recommend the hotel, the food and the venue enough, as a wedding venue it is amazing, and exceptional value for money. We said as we checked out it's the best money we will ever spend. We will be back many times in the future, and The Embankment will always have a very special place in our hearts. Thank you to all of the team from the bottom of our hearts for making our big day so perfect!. Rob & Lorna Payne.
I love staying at the Embankment. It is such a characterful property, in a prime location on the River Great Ouse. The staff is so friendly and helpful.
The food was a little poor and overly fussy at times. For example, the granola breakfast doesn’t need huge chocolate curls, and the parsnip soup lunch doesn’t need maple syrup. Both “extras” actually spoiled a potentially great dish. The fish and chip meal was extremely disappointing - oily batter, dry chips and rock hard peas. Not a single element on the plate was right.
It was all good for us
Nothing
We were most impressed with the Embankment Hotel in Bedford. Excellent facilities, helpful and attentive staff and high standards all round.
There wasn't anything other than perhaps a larger car park but that isn't logistically possible !
Breakfast good. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient Rooms very comfortable if a little small. Bathroom spacious, well lit, well equipped, and shower easy to use good spray and copious hot water. Towels fluffy and always warm on the towel heater! Heaven!
The food was very good and chef very capable. Portions really good. Menu could have been wider offering more choice, but understand that it is currently under review.
I got an extremely good breakfast.
Excellent location. Good breakfast.
Shower was only like warm. The room was rather dark with a small window and poor lighting.
Easy check in and spacious rooms. Comfy big bed. Rooms serviced every day. Great food and a lively but relaxed feel in the pub/restaurant.
Car parking can be a little tricky / limited, it’s at the back of the hotel.
room & breakfast
Only a short walk into the town centre
No lift
Breakfast was amazing
Nothing to disĺike
The welcome from the young man at reception was so nice, in fact every single staff member was friendly and polite. The hotel is in a fab location for a stroll by the river or into the town centre. The food was good solid pub grub. We enjoyed a lovely well presented breakfast and lunch. We had a lovely big room with ensuite.
Sadly the whole place could do with a deep clean. I noticed the paneling in the bar/ eating area was very dirty and off putting. Also the ladies toilet door needs cleaning and painting! Seeing the extremely dirty mop and bucket outside the first floor rooms was worrying to say the least!! Housekeeping needs a new mop and clean water for each room. I shudder to think our bathroom floor was " washed" with that dirty mop! I found the bed very uncomfortable. It was a double which is fine for 2 small adults but it's a tight squeeze for 2 average sized ones like us! The mattress was too firm for me and I didn't sleep great on both nights! The bath needs a grab rail for getting and out of the shower!
Le charme. Nous étions au dernier eet donc au calme.
Attention pas d'ascenseur mais le personnel monté les valises.
Location and staff
Car park was busy on arrival
Comfortable bed and very clean. Good location
It was very expensive for a 1 night stay with no breakfast
Clean comftable great staff
Nothing
Beautiful location overlooking the river. Busy Pub/Restaurant/Hotel. Room was clean, good size and attached bathroom was huge. Staff were excellent with no exceptions. Keen to help and very enthusiastic and respectful. Good night's sleep, no noise. And finally, the food. We had breakfast, lunch and Dinner and all were freshly cooked and delicious. We are 4 "grumpy oldies" but could find nothing whatsoever amiss. Perfect.
Staff were all very approachable helpful and pleasant.
All was good
We had my husband's 70th birthday party in the private dinning room. Food and service was 5 star and it made my Husband's birthday very special. A big thank you to The Embankment
Emplacement agréable. Charme d'une vieille demeure.
Mal isolé, très mal chauffé. Mobilier de rangement insuffisant, équipement vétuste. Chambre exiguë. Pas de vue.
Lovely location and beautiful period Victorian hotel, feels special without being too grand

It is a nice hotel and luke was very helpful
I think not including breakfast in the price of the room is a little disappointing , yes I know you can pay more for one but it should be included! but over all it’s a good hotel
We decided to celebrate our Diamond Wedding Anniversary here in their Private Room as we had done so successfully for our Ruby 20 years previously. Planning by Tom and Abbie was very helpful and on the night chef Chris came up trumps with splendid food served extremely pleasantly and attentively by our dedicated waitress Molly who was ably assisted by Sophie, Lexi and others. We would not hesitate to recommend them for any function. By the way their Sunday lunches are also superb!
Really Nice place and a good restaurant
Sofa bed for the kids was really old and inconfortable
Breakfast was delicious, bar downstairs was great. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The room was not clean - the bathroom was so gross we didn't even want to shower in it. The toilet hadn't been cleaned (in fact was left in terrible condition) although after telling staff they cleaned it slightly. Was fine for one night but probably wouldn't stay again as the music was quite loud downstairs on a Saturday night
Staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Hotel cozy and across from beautiful park and river. Food very good and breakfast served fresh and to order.
No lift so had to climb two sets of stairs to room therefore if you have any problems walking or in a wheelchair you need to make sure that hotel aware.
Location was great. I loved the Tudor style and historical look.
Place needs a little TLC carpet needs cleaning and the room we had faced a brick wall. The bed was small and pillows hard.
The staff were absolutely excellent. Friendly and helpful. The food was v v good
Needs a face lift. Room was tired. Broken window in bathroom. Furniture has seen better days
Location, friendly staff
the hotel was ideal for the purpose, probably not somewhere I'd plan to say for a "holiday", but perfectly ok
