Mercure Bedford Centre Hotel

It was perfect for our needs, we attended a wedding in the town, very easy to get around.

My step daughter was in a wheelchair and the corridors and lifts are not designed for them

The air con unit was sooooo noisy

Handy location, the restaurant looking onto the river was lovely, bedroom was a nice size and while the view was of the next building over it was still quite quiet even with the window open (bar the usual noises you get in towns/ cities) Bed was comfy room was clean.

While not much they can do about it, the height of the shower is such that anyone over 6ft will struggle somewhat, at 6’3” the shower head was at the bridge of my nose.

Shower wasn't very powerful. Also the aircon was initially locked meaning I couldn't adjust the fan/temperature, I could only turn it on and off, which I found strange. However the lady at reception was helpful and kindly removed this for me.

Two men came into my room in the early hours of Saturday 22nd August. When i reported to reception very little was done for nearly 3 weeks and then when a response did come they claim they can't see anyone enter my room at that time of day. I have escalated as they have clearly coded the card incorrectly. The hotel manager still has not called me despite the fact i checked out both my rooms 1 night earlier and had paid in full.

Disabled customer with blue badge yet still charged £7 to park. Bedroom dark small and compact. You could hear the water running upstairs and the draining including flushing of the toilet throughout the night - disturbed & broken sleep. Cobwebs and fixtures and sockets extremely dusty needs intensive clean. Requested a bath almost days before my arrival, which was acknowledged however this was NOT accommodated on arrival the receptionist seemed unbuttered and lack empathy. The online check in questionnaire tell why do you want to know a person race/colour? Does that define the room and service that they are given as that was our perceptions on our overall stay from reception staff arrival/departure with the only exceptions to breakfast chef and catering staff who told us there was a lift to go to the bedrooms as l used the stairs with a walking stick and the receptionist was sitting there watching me...would l return? WOULD YOU?

The showers were terrible the water was trickling out took forever to rinse hair , also the toilets did not flush regular , the safe was not working either , we reported this more than once nothing was done ! We had to use a friends safe !

The room is tired and shabby. The bathroom leaves a lot to be desired. The carpet is stained. The windows are filthy!

The second room we moved to was fine, great view out of the window. Evening meals not bad.

First room we were put in was tiny - really tiny - and smelt odd. So we asked to be moved. Also, every single day our key card stopped working so I had to go and get it refreshed!

The rooms were very modern.

Convenient location

Booked a double room with sitting area. Room didn't lock properly and one of the lights didn't work. Was moved to an alternative room that was all they had. Room was smaller with no sitting area and had cobwebs. We put the do not disturb sign out in the morning, only to have repeated knocks and be interrupted whilst trying to get dressed. Complained at the desk during checkout but didn't get much response. I have also complained online. I would at least expect compensation for the smaller room, which was not what I paid for. I have never felt so insecure in a hotel room. Also parking was £7 a night but signs said not to leave anything in the car, etc. I wouldn't mind paying if it was a secure car park.

Great size room for 2 people. We stayed here to attend Twinwood festival and location was great with about 15 min drive to festival. You could also walk into town centre from hotel Breakfast was excellent.

The rooms, reception and breakfast areas were good but the hallways could do with some new carpet. It is mainly visual and looked dirty/stained and let down the overall good condition of the hotel

It's a refurbished older hotel. Long walk along a narrow dated corridor from car park entrance to reception and the lifts. Secondary double glazing very worn.

The lack of housekeeping- we’d paid for a prestige room but on the second day our bed want made, the cups were not cleaned and they didn’t replenish the coffee and biscuits. They did replace towels when they didn’t need to.. We paid for breakfast which were nicely cooked but cold unless you caught it coming out of the kitchen .

The room was very big and the bed very comfortable. I liked the lamps and various tables. It was fairly quiet (but doors do bang) On the 8th floor there was the potential of a fantastic view of the river...

The view is hampered by the decommissioned balcony (understandably locked now) which is dirty and peeling, with cracked glass panels and cigarette butts on it. The bathroom would have been great but the shower tray was cracked and had a botched repair. I found Reception not particularly welcoming. Tea & coffee are minimal. You can't have them topped up unless you have a full towel top up (not necessary)

The location is great, the staff are wonderful and cannot be faulted in their attitude and helpfulness.

The air con needs updating. It was quite noisy, but thankfully it wasn't hot so could turn it off. It would be amazing if they could do some veggie sausages at breakfast.

Someone woke us up at 2.30 am kicking and banging on our door. We tried to contact security as it was frightening but it was difficult to find a number to call. Apparently the police dealt with it but nobody told us it was dealt with. We asked to change rooms next day. They put us in a room which had air conditioning that didnt work, the toilet was brown with limescale and the fan didn’t work. They apologised for the incident but said it wasn’t their fault and we should have reported it straight away. We had tried to do that. We suggested they should have a number for security clearly visible in each room instead of trying to find a number via a qr code.

The view was amazing, The room was very clean and tidy and smelt fresh. There was a good selection of food that filled a hole.

My first impression of the exterior of the hotel was it looked like a council tower block that didn't match the quality of the inside of the whole hotel. The windows need upgrading for sure. There was an outside window and an inside window and the outside window looked like it could of pushed out of the frame, it was held in by silicone that was old and was deteriorating bad with gaps. the inside window was abit mouldy and could open but was pointless because the outside windows didn't open. The shower flooded the bathroom because the glass length wasn't long enough which caused me to nearly slip as I didn't expect that much water to be on the floor. The room was supposed to be a prestige room but I felt like it was the same as all the others but just with a nice view, The bed was supposed to be a king size but it was 2 single Devan's pushed together and 2 single mattresses on top which came apart during the night which was annoying. breakfast had a good selection but was very cold and alot of the bits were hard where it had been sitting for so long.

We stayed in Mercure hotel for 2 nights and the service was very poor: 1, 4 times I had to ask for coffee sachets and toilet roll. Each time was told someone will bring it up. The toilet roll I had to take from the toilets in the reception area as waited and no one came. 2, the house keeping wasn’t done as expected and there was no top up of tea coffee or clean cups etc which in other hotels it’s done automatically. 3, bathroom wasn’t really clean when arrived had hairs in the shower etc and the shower gel wasn’t coming out. 4, there was so much noise I could hear through out the night as the double glazing on the window one side was not there. I wouldn't recommend to anyone staying here with the service I have had.

We had asked 2 weeks in advance for 2 rooms next or near to each other and were told on arrival in a robotic rigid manner this was not possible and were put on different floors in tiny dingy rooms without wardrobe abd in which you could hardly swing a cat. A very uncomfortable stay. Breakfast ok

Friendly staff as always, the food we ordered at the bar was lovely. The room was a good size with a nice view over the river and the bed was clean and comfy. We appreciated the complimentary drinks in the fridge on a warm day.

Inconsistent with amenities they provide for privilege room customers~ we've stayed in the standard doubles before and been provided more to make the stay comfier, such as slippers or robes, we weren't provided any/enough this time. The cleanliness is also hit or miss, we had vague spashes of stains on our curtains, but not in other rooms, which can be off-putting.

The walk from the car park through the hotel, the seats in the room had stains, the shower wasn’t very nice, hair in plug hole, the food wasn’t very nice at dinner, fire alarm at 2am, all in all it was not worth the money I paid!

On a choisi cet hôtel pour son parking mais quand nous sommes arrivés parking complet obligé de se débrouiller pour trouver un parking souterrain. Les lits les draps n’ont pas été tirés juste la couette remise par dessus . Pas de rouleau de papier toilette en plus. Café soluble bu mais non remplacé. Nous n’y retournerons pas

It was the worse night I had. The first room the vent in the bathroom was extremely loud even with the door closed and it won’t turn off even when we took the key out and switched everything off. Went to reception to change the room and the second room was even worse. This room had all the A/C units out the window, again really loud. Couldn’t sleep the whole night. The pillows are awful and there is dust everywhere, you could see it and feel it when breathing. When we checked out and explained the receptionist she didn’t seem to care at all about the issues we had.

All dining chairs were dirty. Could do with a good clean or replacing. Wall by dining table pillar was dirty. Carpets could do with a deep steam clean. Staff taking names for breakfast was pleasant but overheard him making comments about people to a staff member who was looking after the breakfast counter. There appear to have been an issue where one of the party I think did not pay for breakfast. His words were "I don't want to cast aspersions but it's always those type of people who do this and if it happens again, we should tell them they have to pay". He was referring to a black party people! I must say I was shocked at this comment and if he is going to talk about people for whatever reason, should do this with discretion.

Everything, just such a lovely hotel in a great location. Our room was overlooking the river & such a lovely view.

The location is perfect walking distance to the centre and its next to the river. Lovely rooms with modern bathrooms. Immaculately clean. Easy to park outside with there private car park. Lift access to all floors. Have stayed many times here and the standard remains the same each time.

During the check in process, I was waiting for 20 minutes and then when I was checked in the staff were rude. The room had dead flies on the windowsill and the safe was broken so it couldn’t be closed. There was a light next to the bed but that was broken off so not useable. The USB port next to the bed was also broken alongside one of the plug sockets. The corridors stunk of weed.

The location worked for the weekend

Looks like it needs a refurb in parts, carpets are noticeably grubby. Rooms are small. Breakfast was poor; no food,uncooked sausages and had to go back to the kitchen, you had to ask for cutlery, condiments were extremely low (bottles turned upside down). No apology for issues, when highlighted, they continued to respond casually to the issues raised. Was not the service I expected. Overall, not what I expected from a Mercure Hotel as I’ve been to others before and had a good experience. I guess I was surprisingly disappointed!

Bathroom bins had not been emptied when we checked in, we were given one key even though they could see there were two of us. Handwash was empty, the shower drain hole was dirty, not enough lighting in the room, only lamps in the corners of the room, windows were dirty, furniture needs updating, carpet looks dirty and has a musty smell. Staff were not friendly. Looks like they did not speak much About English, which is not an issue, but they wouldn’t even say hello, or good morning. At one point, I was walking down the narrow passage and stop to let staff get past and they didn’t even say “thank you”. Breakfast is slightly steep at £12.00 if you pay on arrival and £16.00 if you pay later. You pay for parking at £7.00 per day. For the past four years, we attend the Reggae Land music festival in Milton Keynes and always stay at the Swan Hotel just across the Mercure. Parking at the Swan is free, and most of all the overall experience is second to none. We only stayed at the Mercure because the Swan was fully booked.

Hot water in shower was not consistent, I had to get assistance in fixing it but even after that issue wasn't resolved completely.

Great service, exceptional customer service. Most definitely recommend.

Do ot bother with this hotel. Room adequate and my room on the busy road, so made sleeping impossible till early hours. I ran out of tea, milk and coffee. Asked for refills, at reception. Did not get them. On leaving I remembered I had left a, item of jewellery there. Rang reception, we will get it and put away for you. On ringing today they can't find it SHOCKING!!!

Seats in food areas could do with a good clean. Carpet in bedroom too. It would help to feel happier! Curtain hooks need to be in place, as too much light comes in with the end of the curtain hanging loose. The Mercure Hotel is ideally situated!

Was advised to ring to night before for early check in, which we did and where advised this was possible and to turn up. We turned up and this wasn't available. However the check in staff where more than helpful, so overall cannot complain. Already booked another stay next year.

My curtains didn’t quite meet in the middle. Rm 408. So was woken early (4.50) by sunlight streaming in. Carpets in corridors a bit tired. Outside looks a bit bleak.

I spoke to a man on reception when booking and after booking who confirmed that the Bedding for the sofa bed would be in the room when we arrived. It was not and staff were reluctant to provide it when we requested late at night.

The hotel was clean and friendly I would highly recommend this hotel.

There was only 3 things I found wrong, which was one dirty spoon left in our room, there was a dirty mark on the curtain and a broken socket. However it was a great stay and the problems were rectified and staff were apologetic.
