Nice Breakfast, Charming old hotel.

Lovely building, eclectic decor. Real character. Room was large, as was bathroom.

Needs a bit of TLC.

The location was good and the town itself looked really cute, so I was disappointed that I couldn’t stay longer to explore it. The room itself was okay and the hotel was fine in terms of location only.

Unfortunately, there were a few things that really let the stay down. I was disappointed to find there was no parking at the hotel, as this would have been useful. I also ordered a pizza for dinner, which unfortunately arrived burnt, so that was disappointing. However, the biggest issue for me was the bed. I have never left a hotel in the middle of the night before, but the mattress was so uncomfortable that it genuinely felt worse than sleeping on the floor. It was so hard that it actually hurt my joints, and I simply couldn’t get comfortable or sleep. I ended up leaving shortly after 4am because I would genuinely rather have been in my car driving home than spend the rest of the night in that bed. I had already paid enough for town parking that I could have stayed and looked around the following morning, but after such an uncomfortable night and a disappointing dinner, I decided to leave. I wasn’t confident that breakfast would make up for the overall experience. It’s a shame, as the town looked lovely and the location was good, but unfortunately the bed made the stay impossible for me.

The bedroom pillows were so soft we didn't have a good night's sleep even though we had two each! Really need to change!

Plumbing in room 5 kept us awake all night, gurgling sink every 10 seconds or so. Even with the door closed uou can hear it!! Had to put music on to try to get some sleep. Staff in the morning tried to pass it off as a new issue. Its not other reviews say the same. Very poor and we won't be back because of it!

Well placed hotel in the lovely Kirkby Lonsdale. The hotel was much better than we expected. It must be very close to a 4* maybe the fact it has no room fridge for instance. Nice touch leaving water bottles out and glass ones too! Small buffet breakfast and then a variety of cooked options. We had dinner too one night which was very good. Dog friendly and in a good way you feel welcomed and not just accepted. No car park but lots of places around and if you’re up early grab a free spot for an hour whilst breakfasting and then you’re off for the day etc. Thanks everyone we shall return. Lucca loved it!

Our room wasn't cleaned on the Sunday and we had to ask for toiletries etc. Food wasn't as good as our last visit in 2023 and nobody seemed to be in actively in charge of the dining room. In all fairness there was 2 people who seemed to be doing virtually everything, including booking in / out, and running the bar. There seemed to be a lot of new staff as well who were being trained on the job.

We’ve stayed many times in Kirkby Lonsdale it it’s a first for this hotel - thought we’d treat ourselves and spend a bit more / wrong move

For the money £170 + £15 for our dog, no bowls, treats etc in the room, there was a lot of mould in the bathroom, broken towel rail, numerous chips in paint, the breakfast 🤷‍♀️, unfortunately the poached eggs should not be offered, hard as bullets, I specifically asked for toast separately as I don’t like soggy bread and it came buttered (soggy) so could not eat it all in all extremely disappointing and it wasn’t a busy breakfast for such a large establishment

The room was in no way a superior room! The curtains were sun damaged and now fraying which does which does not feel superior. The bathroom was tatty. The staff were not welcoming, we waited 5 minutes to book in (there was no bell) at reception which was in a busy hallway. The staff are trying to do too much and the customer is lost in this.

Lovely hotel in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. Very comfortable reception rooms, bar and restaurant. Bed was super comfortable and all staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was exceptional. Would definitely recommend a stay at this historic hotel

Helpful staff member on desk booked us in and helped us in securing our tandem in a safe place overnight. He was also very pleasant together with his young trainee waiter throughout our evening meal service. The food was good, my meal in particular. Room was very comfortable and well-equipped. We had an electric portable fan in our room - which was essential given our room overheating owing to the direction it faced and the overwhelming external temperatures. In truth, air conditioning would have been more appropriate.

One of the two Georgian windows in our bedroom was sealed shut and the second had limited opening. Given the extremely high temperature / humidity it would have been much better to have improved ventilation.

Been coming to Kirkby Lonsdale for a lot of years and stayed at The Royal many times. Lovely hotel.

The room we stayed in is getting a little tired, particularly the bathroom. Around the window is very mouldy and is in need of replacement. Also, when advertising this room the bath/shower should be expkained fully that it is 3 steps up to the bath/shower with a very deep bath. This could make it difficult for older people to use.

Sunken Bath/ shower in room 8 , 3 steps up to it then a drop down to it to put plug in , then as only small could not reach taps on wall from bath shower so had to climb out onto a tiled surface . Bath was square with shower above so more like a plunge bath but an accident waiting to happen with wet tiles. Mentioned at hotel and are aware , apparently 2 rooms have this set up. If you are tall not so much of an issue but after a hot day it was an issue.

Located at the centre of very pretty village. Has been refurbished in an exotic colonial style. Restaurant and breakfast was very good.

Wifi was weak/patchy in bedroom. No parking at hotel.

Fantastic period hotel. Right in the centre and just a simple walk to shops/pubs/restaurants. All the staff were excellent and friendly. Breakfast was fresh and nice. Great hotel and would definitely stay again especially as we could have our dog with us

Food is always lovely. Snug is great for chilling out. Great for dogs. Stayed there about 12 times, and it is always lovely.

The central position of t.he hotel. The room and the bed was very comfortable. Lift access was good. We enjoyed all the meals we had. Good gluten free choices for my husband . All the staff were friendly..

The bathroom was roomy but the square deep bath was not accessable for someone with arthritic knees. Very uncomfortable for anyone who was tall. You could not stretch out at all in the bath. The large shower head over the bath was good. In future visits l would request a walk-in shower.

Room on top floor was lovely and particularly enjoyed the deep bath after a long day driving. We ate in the bar, sneaking into the pizza deal before 6.30pm. Breakfast was excellent too with ample portions are well presented food. Staff great - attentive and helpful.

We had it booked for the weekend, but there was a severe weather warning and was concerned it wasn’t within the 48 hour cancellation policy but felt like something could’ve been done. We didn’t want to lose the money. We just wanted to reschedule. Could there have been any leeway with this? But that was the only thing I would say would let us down without experience.
