Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The grounds were lovely and the staff friendly. The room was very nice and the views great.
The room was overall clean, but needs more attention in the corners. There were vegetarian options, but extremely limited. Food was okay but nothing to write home about.
Excellent room and food.
Poor lighting in room/bathroom. Faulty fittings. Uncomfortable furniture. Clock not working. No tea towel. Breakfast badly served - took 80mins one morning. Confusion over tabs. The staff didn’t have much of a clue.
Beautiful location . Very friendly staff
Very noisy from adjoining rooms and from the bar below. Then disturbed by an extractor fan that came on at 6am!
Staff were lovely and helpful Location was good
The allocated room was gloomy and small but they upgraded me to a better room That was spacious and comfortable but there was no hot water in the morning so I had a cold shower Breakfast was disappointing- I chose home made granola with yoghurt and seasonal fruits. The oats and fruit were burned and bitter, the fruit was a sweet compote and not fresh fruit.
A picturesque location with delightful, friendly staff. A hearty breakfast cooked to order & included in the price. Our room was a good size overlooking the garden. The dining room was fresh & attractive.
As soon as we turned off to locate the rooms, the stairs were steep, narrow & dingy. Our room was light & airy overlooking the garden, giving a favourable first impression, but with very tired, old-fashioned decor & furnishings. There was no soap in the bathroom for hand-washing. An old diffuser that had dried out long ago (in the bathroom) had not been replaced. There was noone on reception at all from around 'tea-time' onwards. The soup was great, the 'roast of the day' was disappointing. The gammon we were looking forward to was more like thin slices of bacon. Our room was listed at over £200 a night & advertised as their best room. I was glad we booked it at a reduced rate or it would have been even more disappointing & nowhere near value for money.
Very nice
No bar, no beer. A bit to remote.
Perfect positioned near to a lake with small boat hire, a steam railway with incredible staff who gave me a guide tour (Rudyard Lake Railway - well worth a visit, and a convenient station almost on the hotel’s doorstep). This hotel has great food, good beer and well furnished rooms with great views. I’d say just go there, but if I do I’ll never get another room there. So better stay away😂
Nothing
Location was very good and staff where brilliant
Room dirty… coffee cups still had coffee of the previous occupants
Bliskość do jeziora i super jedzenie
Nic
Location easy access to terrace
Nice location and the room would have been nice if it was clean.
Very dirty room even though it was one of their more expensive rooms. Visible mouse traps in the kitchen area which ran behind where the dishes were kept under the sink. The headboards etc were thick with dust. Lots of webs, unswept floors etc. Staff were apologetic & moved us upstairs to another room after they'd asked other staff (I assume) who were sleeping there to swap rooms with us. That room was equally as dirty but was larger. The fridge had a half eaten pastry in it. Still dusty & generally grubby. Breakfast was ok but took a very long time to be served & it was clear it had been sat on the side for a good while. Nice location, looks ok on the surface & I imagine it was quite lovely in its heyday. Unfortunately for the price the rooms & breakfast were definitely not up to par.
The staff were very attentive throughout our stay. Room was comfortable with nice views. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent
Nothing.
Clean tidy and well maintained
The property itself is set in lovely gardens and has a fantastic view
There are just cosmetic and repairs that need doing our room needed upgrading and decorating
Stunning location with amazing views of Rudyard Lake from our bedroom window. It was lovely and peaceful at night and in the morning. The staff were all friendly and nothing was too much effort.
Would be helpful to have a shelf in the family room bathroom, somewhere to put your toiletries etc.
Nice location near the lake. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed the bar in the evening were we mixed with chatty locals who were a good sources of tourist information.
Nothing worth mentioning..
Fantastic location
Nothing
The staff was brilliant. They went above and beyond for us and other customers. They made us feel very welcome. We stayed there for our evening meal and it was fantastic.
Location beautiful ... breakfast high quality ... friendly staff.
Could do with modernising rooms slightly eg.. usb sockets ... bunkbed in room wobbly
Beautiful surroundings. Excellent staff and plenty of them. Evening meal and breakfast both very good. The sort of place you want to return to.
Slow service

Lovely location. Very clean. The staff were polite and helpful.
The bunk bed in our family room was wobbly. We ordered 2 starters but only one arrived….but we were only charged for one. My wine glass was very dirty but promptly changed. At breakfast time the poor waitress was very busy and we waited 45 mins before our order was taken.
It was lovely ty.staff were friendly, helpful.food excellent.
Beautiful hotel in glorious surroundings. Service very good and food lovely!
There is no lift and the stairs are very steep….staff did change our room from the original 3rd floor room to a lovely room on the first floor which we greatly appreciated!
Fabulous location close to Rudyard Lake.
No lift!
Lovely setting
First room was a bit dusty at best
The setting. Friendly, helpful staff. Particularly at breakfast.
No storage in bathroom, for bathroom stuff. TV plonked on wardrobe.
Beautiful building but needs a lot of tlc. Hotel staff were great apart from some dinner staff.
Room dirty, dusty and very small. Television unusable, smell of the kitchen being blown into the room. Bathroom was disgusting, very dirty grouting, very much needs a total revamp. Bathroom sink was installed unusually high and unsuitable for children. Beds are very worn and mattress needs replacing as they're sunken. Only saving grace was the bedding was clean.
amazing view
everything was amazing nothing was not to like
We've stayed here before and will stay again. It feels like a home from home. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was well decorated.
Bunk bed was a little wobbly, but was fine for one night.
Location.
Breakfast starting at 8.00am is not ideal for business travel. May stop me from booking again.
Staff are incredibly friendly.
Location was fantastic and staff were friendly and attentive
Room was small for two people no bedside table or light. Step up to shower difficult and some kind of safety rail would help. Wash basin set very high. Grouting in shower dirty. Why are menus could be laminated rather than screwed stained paper sheets. No marmalade available!
Great location, beautiful view
Quite basic for the price
Staff in the morning was very good and breakfast was nice
The want to go home atttitude at 9pm, no restaurant after 8, bar closing between 9.15/9.30 being told I have to go to bed at 9.30 as they switch off all the lights and want to go home so early, I arrived at 8.30 after a over 5 hour drive and they had no consideration for this, gave me a number for a takeaway then told me I had to take it to my room at 9.30. It’s a little strange way of working, I stay in 3-4 hotels a week and not come across this before, so if you want any advice, if you are arriving after 8.00/8.30 and getting up in the morning to get on the road your far better off staying in a premier inn at half the price. This way you are also in town and can easily have what you want on your door step.
Everything
The staff were wonderful but worn out I felt sorry for them Staffing numbers need to be increased
Close to Alton Towers
A bit excluded thankfully it was only a stop over for the night
the location the food friendly staff
the bunk beds were unstable curtain tie fell off the wall toilet had not been cleaned after someone before us had left a number 2 shower was dirty and mold in the shower
Lovely hotel. Great room. Really friendly staff and oatcakes on the menu -yummy! Close to the lake for a lovely walk.
Nothing
Great location and setting. Easy to find and park.
Big wait times for food and mixed up orders (at breakfast and dinner) were the biggest let downs. Room was spacious and comfy but not the cleanest. WiFi signal didn't stretch to our room which meant the TV didn't work.
Beautifully set near the edge of the lake, this delightfully old fashioned but well appointed hotel offers immediate access to the railway, the lake, hire boats and some delightful walks and drives.
Last minute orders at the Sunday carvery may not be so good. But huge credit to the manager and staff, I was immediately reimbursed and enjoyed free drinks too. When something goes wrong, it’s the response of staff that turns a disappointment into a great evening. These guys delivered a brilliant response and we had a great evening.
Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff. Great location for the lake.
Advice - Approach hotel from Leek-Macclesgied road. Other direction has hilly road, narrow in parts.
Size of the rooms were generous in our cottage. Great location.
No toaster in the little kitchen.
Relaxing surroundings and views
Bar closed early no hot drinks available told the machine was turned off for cleaning before 10PM.
Staff very helpful
Location
Beautiful venue and lovely hotel, rooms are in need u Of redecoration but lovely relaxing stay
The rooms were a bit in need of a refurb! Could see the paper coming away from The ceiling and the bathroom tiles had gunk on them
Location beautiful and lovely comfortable rooms. Food was very nice. Will be back!
Beautiful location, lots of space in cottage with family of four, great beer garden, space to play cricket on the lawn
Breakfast excellent, Location good Room spacious.
The location.
The breakfast was inadequate, not enough choice of cereals etc Who ever cooks the breakfast hot food doesn't do it well. I have had much better in other hotels and B & B s.
The location is a 5 minute walk to the lake. , the staff we met were very good and helpful. The hotel has everything you need for an overnight stay but Leek is 10 minutes away with a lovely town square and numerous pubs and restaurants
Another chair is the room would be nice but the lovely window seat was a bonus
The location
The room was very dusty Mattress was very warn and could feel the springs when you moved.
Lovely gardens and outside areas. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Room was big and beds comfortable Overall a lovely place!
TV remote didn’t work, so had to fiddle with controls on the back to make anything work. Never did manage to switch it off though! Room was a strange layout and breakfast took ages to come!!
Staff were friendly . Double Bed comfy.
No shop nearby. No train station. Alsation dog off lead & barking at me made me feel - scared. Not much to do in Rudyard Village. Not easy to find hotel. & got lost. Google maps told me wrong direction !!
Fantastic location, nice room, great drinks choices and lovely food. The staff were very friendly.
Location very pretty
Evening meal was poor. Bedroom smelt musty due to lack of ventilation in bathroom.
Lovely location. The food and a good choice of drinks from the bar
The room was dated. Wallpaper hanging off from the ceiling Shower room lacked anywhere to put toiletries. Cold water only available when the shower was on
Tom great staff very helpful breakfast lovely
Nothing
The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was good. The location is very pleasant adjacent to Rudyard Lake.
Nothing it was fine
The location was perfect for what I needed. Will be staying again. Breakfast was lovely. Avo on toast with the chilli oil was grand.
There were issues with the WiFi in the room. I struggled to get connected.
Location and the Staff are so friendly
The breakfast No fruit or yogurt etc Not everyone wants a cooked breakfast
The location was exceptional, the suite was remarkable, and the staff provided outstanding assistance. We anticipate returning to further explore the surrounding area.
Great location
Nothing
Restaurant and bar closing too early.
Location was excellent Room good Breakfast plenty of choice, but not excellent
Breakfast could of been better
Friendly perfect location
Decorations painting need doing properly in the room
Area was stunning, staff were lovely and accommodating.
Location
Very noisy with guest above us. Disturbed our sleep. Spiders and carcasses within the cottage.
Every so often you find a gem of a hotel Staff excellent and friendly Amazing freshly cooked breakfast High quality restaurant Great outdoor area and also beside a lake. Amazing value I highly recommend this hotel
Nothing to report here
This place is amazing value for money. We had a comfortable room with real coffee maker. Excellent breakfast is included. Our meals in the evening were good and there was a wide choice. The setting is amazing: overlooking a pretty valley with a lake. There are lots of places to walk nearby and a small railway that seems to run only at holiday times. The hotel gardens are pretty and there is plenty of outdoor seating in sunny spots. All the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful.
Nothing
The bed room was very clean and fit shoes very well.
On arrival at the hotel at 10.30 pm the doors were locked and there was no answer from the out of hours phone number. There was no way into the hotel apart from the locked front door. Fortunately for us we had other family members staying in the hotel who were still awake and came and opened the front door. Having tried to phone number again there was still no answer! Having found our paper work at the reception desk we were lucky enough to also find our key and let ourselves in!!! If we had not had family staying it would have been a cold uncomfortable night for us in the car. We did have the option of driving home if needed but hi would have been over an hours drive with children in tow. We had been to a family wedding and had we had a drink we would have had that option. The hotel were aware of our arrival and still no one answered the contact number. I have worked in hotels for many years and I find it frightening that there was no overnight staff presence with the hotel building itself having been told that the out of hours person lives on site in a cottage. I dread to think what would happen in an emergency. We did raise our concerns with the staff in the morning and apologies were given and our stay discounted. We did stay for breakfast which was a long process as there wasn’t many members of staff on and our food took a long time to arrive. When it did arrive one of the orders was incorrect and rather than take away what was wrong and return with the correct hot breakfast we were left to wait while the other items on the plate went cold. The other orders were not as advertised as I ordered the poached eggs with avocado on granary toast. What arrived was two very hard poached eggs on cheap brown barely toasted toast. On a plus side the coffee was good! With regards to the room it was very hot due to the weather and the windows barely opened due to the safety catches. There wasn’t many members a fan but that was too noisy to have on whilst we slept.
It was a warm welcoming place, very clean and friendly staff
Nothing it was perfect
Excellent hotel great location Fabulous food
Nothing at all
The staff were excellent
the bed wasn't the comfiest
Fantastic location. Lovely staff. Spotlessly clean.
Nothing.
The staff, location and food.
Really nice peaceful place, people around and staff friendly. Lovely landscape around.
Great location and length of space to eat outside
Room very warm as window was n direct sunlight and only a small fan to cool the room.
Lovely quiet location just up from Rudyard lake, with attractive terraces and garden. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The deluxe bedroom was spacious with a very comfortable bed. This was our third stay and we weren’t disappointed.
Breakfasts were generous, but no fruit was available (neither fresh nor tinned).
Staff were excellent
Mostly amazing, we stayed in the cottage. Very limited cutlery, not even a teaspoons or glasses
We loved the room we stayed in, it was bigger than expected and very clean. We had the breakfast both mornings and I would definitely recommend it. You can't beat the location, it's peaceful and romantic.
I wasn't keen on the prices but these prices are to be expected due to the location and quality of the service.
The breakfast was excellent
The evening meal was not as good as the breakfast wonderful location
The hotel and its surroundings were beautiful. We were in one of the separate cottages which was great. Easy access and loads of space for us as a family of 4.
The service at breakfast was very slow. We were there over an hour and a half. From arrival to finishing out breakfast. All of the juice glasses were dirty too so we had to wait for them to be cleaned beofre having a drink of juice
A very good breakfast was provided.
Location, outside area
Rooms quite dated , no bin in bathroom, mattress wasn’t great. Location is stunning
Food location and staff
Tv didn’t work in the room
Amazing views from the terrace whilst eating dinner after a long day walking. Friendly, lovely staff. Great breakfast, big clean room. Will be back
Nothing
The hotel and gardens
The breakfast was excellent, and the room was spacious. The hotel is on the lake and walking distance to the small village.
A good place to stay for a couple of nights at a decent price. The room was fine and breakfasts were good, as was the beer.
The bar area downstairs is not the smartest.
The lake and the gardens are beautiful. Such a lovely setting for a hotel. Large free car park. Food was absolutely delicious! Great vegan options, beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful. The meat eaters enjoyed their meals too. Breakfast was very good, despite slow service. Comfortable bed.
We stayed in cottage 2 (family suite). It was pretty bad accommodation, particularly considering the price we paid. The bathroom absolutely stank of damp/ drains, and the smell crept into the bedroom which was adjacent. Shower in need of an upgrade. Kitchen area was filthy, with food debris/ crumbs, all around the floor edges and by the fridge. There wasn't much in the way of kitchen equipment if someone did want to self cater. Definitely in need of refurbishment (and cleaning!). There is literally no sound insulation from the apartment above (cottage/ suite 3) and you could hear every foot step, very loudly! Luckily they didn't go to bed late or get up very early, but if they had, we would have been kept awake. Some carpets or other insulation needs to be laid. No curtain across the door, so people could see in if light on. There isn't a terrace for the family suite. It's just the access space to get to the door, which overlooks the car park. There was no information in any of the three rooms my family booked, which you'd expect in this class of hotel. So if you wanted the WiFi code, you had to go back to reception to get it. Or to confirm check out or breakfast timings or even look at the menu. TV not working in one of the rooms. My dad told reception and they said, 'oh yes, I think someone complained about that the other day'! Some staff were very good and attentive. Some less so.
Staff were really friendly and helpful and the room that I stayed in was lovely, we also had a carvery which was really nice, I will definitely be booking to stay again as it was a great location.
The location was very nice. Food was great.
My room 9 was at the top of the building and there was no heating. I had to sleep - hardly at all !- in sweater, socks, hat. I and another couple were the only guests staying overnight (their room was fine) and there was no staff member at the property to speak to. Apart from the cold, surely this was a safety issue??
Location was good, it was clean, and the breakfast was very nice. Good selection tion of tea making facilities in tge room.
The room comfort. We paid £150 for a twin room for 1 night with breakfast. The room was at the top of 2 flights of stairs. It was tiny and smelt very musty and old furniture. The bed was okay but not as conformable as a I would expect for the money we paid. We managed for one night as we were out most of the time, but didn't feel this matched the price we paid.
Beautiful building in a great location. Spacious comfortable room. Excellent food. Friendly welcome and lovely interactions with everyone we met. Perfect stay!
Slightly low pressure in the shower, but being bald this wasn’t an issue!!
