town centre parking
At breakfast there was no option for cereals or fruit etc and the 'full Scottish breakfast' was awful and mostly inedible
Location and parking
Very little I’m afraid. Free parking but rubbish dump in the car park.
Very tired. Room not very clean which didn’t help. Poor food - I decided to breakfast elsewhere after my evening meal. Short staffed.
Location was good and the staff were polite and accomodating
The fly tipping area at the back of the property. I realise this is their hotel but dumping old beds and stuff in the corner of the back was unsightly. There was even what appeared to be dog food or just food for vermin?
Location and history
Had problem with bathroom taps
Bed was comfortable
Didn't like the loud music playing all night on repeat that I only got 1hr of sleep and the tv remote was missing.
Diese Frage ist schwer zu beantworten. Die Nähe zu den Abbeys.
Das Bad war ziemlich verschimmelt, die Bodenbeläge schmutzig und das Zimmer war sehr hellhörig.
Centrally located within the town.
Hotel staff were really stretched in the bar running a quiz night that adversely affected my check in and, in my humble opinion, the quality of the evening meal.
Lage, direkt im Ort und am Borders Abbeys Way
Alles ohne Personal, keinerlei Kontakt bzw. Ansprache, dafür zu teuer
The hotel was beyond our expectations, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere, excellent food and drinks, large room.
Easy check in
Ample parking spaces. Ease of check in was good. Decent wifi.
The bedroom door & bathroom door were easily confused during the night after awakening from a deep sleep, too easy to open during the night into the hall half asleep. Very overpriced. Needs a thorough paint job.
The location was great
There was bed bugs in the bed and the second room we were moved in had a dirty carpet that was obviously not hoovered, bathroom floor not clean, urine stained mattress and room smelt extremely unpleasant because of this
Staff very nice, location good although noisy if room faces the front. Good value food.
The price charged for B&B is far too much. The hotel is nice enough but it is looking very tired & the rooms are ok but I wouldn’t say comfortable.9
The very friendly helpful staff, particularly Mary the proprietor, she ensured we were made to feel at "home" nothing was too much for her to help make our stay enjoyable. We look forward to returning in the future to see the changes planned for the hotel.😃 Great location great staff.
There was nothing I didn't like
Location was perfect and car parking ideal
No lift in the hotel. Outdoor beer garden needed attention as paving and steps in poor repair making it hard to access. No fridge in room. Cleanliness of shower basin where it had come away from wall had black mold we had to buy bleach to address this . Shelving and drawers in room very dusty had to clean before use.
Location for what we needed
Fire alarm going off at 05.30 not able to get in touch all wrong phone numbers we had to call fire brigade alarm didn't stop untill manager appeared at 0810.Had a meal there waiter was pleasant but started clearing away before we had finished.i would advise to go somewhere else.3 double rooms 2nights £640 still waiting to see if I get compensation for the fire alarm.
Nothing
Room was uncleared Dirty unmade bed, wet towels on shower floor, dirty coffee mugs with half drunken coffee. Disgusting toilet left in a mess. Hallway and staircase smelled like a fish and chip shop, No staff on reception No answer from manager when called . Avoid this manky place like the plague
The staff in general were very pleasant, and the service good. Breakfast was well presented and good value. The location was convenient for all amenities Car parking easy.
It seems strange that even if you are resident you can't get a drink after 10pm. Perhaps exceptions could be made to let you take a glass of wine to your room while staff are still behind the bar? The chap behind the bar was quite abrupt about this.
Lovely staff
Sausages weren’t very nice at breakfast
Very central with all the amenities
Bed a bit too small
Breakfast was freshly and nicely cooked. Beds were clean and comfortable. Staff were keen to help.
The nonsense about codes for check-in was not as described by the hotel/Booking.com and also completely irrelevant since the staff were there and the doors open. Secondly, if I am paying all that money, I expect to be checked in by a person not a code. Despite all the chat about PMS, it is simply a way of employing fewer staff. I would like to say the room was clean and in general it was, but whoever cleaned it had not looked under the beds where there was a milk bottle and a couple of loose pills. The hotel needs to pay for a skip and clean up the backyard/parking space/alley where there is old junk lying around after a hotel clearout. The owners of the hotel are not doing Selkirk any favours. It used to be reasonable hotel.
So easy. Just a pleasant place to stay
There was nothing to dislike
FANTASTIC ROOM, MOST PEACEFUL ROOM I HAVE EVER STAYED IN.SOOOOOO QUIET
Lady in bar was nice, downstairs was ok
Room was fillthy, bed was creaky, bathroom door was creaky, hadnt been polished, dust everywhere,it was like a room that had been put together just fir the sake of it,bathroom was nice, shower not great, floor could do with a good scrub, needs a good clean and paint
Location. Staff helpful but limited in number. There seemed to be one girl running everything and she really would have benefited from more help. The bed was comfortable.
Plenty tea and coffee in the room but t no milk. The one member of staff ( sorry, wish I’d asked for her name) was able to help with this and later to get us some toilet paper as had none. The shower/ toilet smelled of smoke. The breakfast choice was very limited- only cooked food and would have really appreciated some fruit and cereal . Hotel was over priced, did not feel we got value for our money.
Location was best thing about the hotel. Beer garden ok Staff friendly
Bteakfast was disppointing. No cereal.fresh fruit or orange juice as an option. Took ages to come . Plenty on plate but sausages looked very cheap and tasted bland. Fried egg was not runny. Condition of car park gave poor first impression. Stair carpet was dirty. Bedroom decor very tired One of coffee cups in room was not clean on arrival . Given we paid £200 for bed and breakfast our experience was very disappointing . I would not recommend as a place to stay or value for money.
Service
Noise outside
locatie en vriendelijk personeel
Te weinig ervaring en het aanbod qua ontbijt. Desnoods gewoon gemengd fruit, yoghurt en grenola extra aanbieden. De koffie was slappe thee.
Staff were pleasant enough, apologised for mistakes, good wifi.
Dirty stained sheets on bed on arrival, looked as if someone had slept in it recently and then made it up. Bits on floor, dirty towel left in shower and toilet dirty. Car park was tight, overgrown with weeds and piles of rubbish. Staff apologised and resolved the situation, lady was friendly, however not ideal after a long journey. Rooms are very dated and smelt of smoke.
Nothing
Not being able to check in. No one answering the phone. No one coming to the door. Being left outside after midnight and having to sleep in my van in freezing temperatures. Getting no response to emails saying I'd be late because of a flight delay. Not getting confirmation of my booking. Being promised self check in information and getting nothing.
Nothing good really. Especially for the price.
There was no breakfast, but we paid for breakfast and it wasn’t cooked very well. The ultra fast WiFi wasn’t fast, in fact it wouldn’t connect. The shower was either too hot or too cold. The owner stood over the staff watching their every move. There clearly wasn’t enough staff. For the price I paid I would have expected breakfast and someone at reception. Absolutely feel short changed
The bed was comfortable, with clean white sheets. I slept really well (despite see below). My single room had all the basic facilities, tea, coffee, kettle, TV etc. The room was cold on arrival, but once I got hold of a member of staff, the central heating was switched on for the evening and also a portable heater supplied, which was nice. The lady I spoke to was friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is handy, close to car parks, shops and cafés.
I managed the code entry system fine, thanks to the video clip provided. However, I felt uncomfortable about not having a lock on the inside of my room door, as sound really travelled through the wall, floors and door to the corridor, the main door was always open, no code needed (whenever I went in and out of the building anyway) and I wondered who else knew or could figure out my door code. I felt a little uncomfortable whenever I heard footsteps, and pushed the chair in between my door and bed for peace of mind. A lock on the inside of a hotel room door is a basic requirement, I think, for making a solo travelling female (or anyone else really) feel safe, especially in a self check-in hotel, with no visible staff around. The shower pressure wasn't great, but fine for one night.
It was ok nothing fancy
The dirt
Centrale locatie, goed bed
Kleine badkamer
Internet was excellent. Hotel room was well priced. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Needs refurbishment. Our room was small but comfortable
Convenient location with parking clean rooms and lots of space
It was ok to get the head down but don’t expect luxury
Same as above
It is a lovely old hotel in the heart of the town. The restaurant is excellent and the staff is friendly and helpful.
This was not a problem with the property but rather with Booking. I received confusing notices about the check in procedure, including a notification that I had received an email with certain information when I hadn’t. In the end the hotel gave me the instructions needed for self check in which was not what was described in the correspondence from Booking.
Good location. Nice facilities. Food good.
Nothing.
clean facilities
there was no evidence of fresh fruit options at breakfast
Hotel set up was ok, although code entry a bit vague, basically your room number and an added number to the end, same on all rooms so not very secure as easy to work out any other rooms entry.
Bar was ok and set out well, was told they made curries from fresh, with all fresh ingredients. So ordered 2 different curries, with starters and nans, both curries were same colour and consistency, absolutely not cooked from scratch, the sauce tasted like a pasta bake sauce. We had to return them as not a curry at all, cant comment on the starters as despite being starters, clue is in the name, we never received them...
Convenient location
Noisy door closers
Great location and staff were amazing, bar and restaurant is reasonably priced, room was great, slept really well, free parking, perfect for my stay
Nothing it's a terrible hotel, no standards at all
Bathroom and room was disgusting, clearly no cleaning had been done. Plumbing absolutely stank. The lock on the front door doesn't work properly so had to stand in the rain trying to unlock it late at night. Awful experience, avoid like the plague
Location - The hotel id basic; however, clean and practicable. Priced appropriately for the facilities.
No negatives - This is a 'no thrills' hotel that is a perfect location for exploring walks around the Borders.
Good sized bedroom with a very comfortable bed, Good communication and easy check in. The bar was clean and well laid out. Lee the bar person/waitress was excellent. Very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent. Would definitely stay there again
Location was fine. Var park covered by CCTV reportedly.
It's all a bit tired and run down. Car park is a waste tip. Restaurant/ dining room is a cafe by day by the looks of things. Not very busy. Food is poor, mistly reheated stuff, not always co.letely cooked through.
check in worked well. Room was good
breakfast was disappointing - only one roll unless you wanted full cooked breakfast - no fruit, no toast, nothing else
Central location
Lukewarm shower
The bed was comfy and the shower was good.
Now this shouldn’t be a complaint however the room was too warm and unable to turn heating down.
It was central in the town and the room was a good size
The lack of staff and the minimum breakfast options.
The waitress was very good
Poor room nothing met description .. more hostel than hotel . No water in the room. Soap was so diluted it wasn’t soap any more … Couldn’t fill the kettle from the sink ( no chocolates as promised)check-in was weird .. frequent excessive but unhelpful communication. It involves a no person contact however The security was in question as we could work out the code for rooms on our floor, as they followed a pattern . No connection between the food service and rooms apparently so breakfast booking was not recognised.. when they agreed to give us breakfast they had scored out loads of items under breakfast on the cooked breakfast menu ( although available for extra money) so they could cut the cost by reducing the inclusive items in the cooked breakfast. Despite the apparent price of £12:95 not changing. Very expensive for what it is .. if you look like a hostel and act like a hostel you should only charge hostel prices
Good location with off street parking. Self check in worked well. Good wi-fi connection
Room was a bit grubby. Had to remake the bed before using it as the sheet and mattress protector were not on properly. The shower plug was filthy. There were dog biscuits and some tablets in the bin under the bin bag. Room needed a proper deep clean.
Room was comfortable
Breakfast was awful
Clean. Breakfast ok
Staff really helpful
Breakfast was ok , the location was perfect a tho
Exactly what I wanted. I didn't eat there but the meals smelled really nice.
squeaking floor boards, really annoyed me, I felt guilty when I used the bathroom, in case I woke anyone.
Good cooked breakfast . Value for money
Noisy and very warm in room.
Quiet and central
Haggis and potato scones at breakfast were overcooked as if done in an air fryer
The lounge was nice enough
The single room was more like a cell. The place really lacked a welcoming presence and someone telling you where to go and how the hotel worked. Breakfast very uninspired. Small portions and slow service at dinner time.
I liked Selkirk as a town, and the surrounding countryside.
I was bitten by bed bugs all over my arms. I showed one of the insects that I found in the bed to a staff. He agreed it was a bed bug, and he agreed that the welts on my arms were bedbug bites, but he took no action. He didn't even apologize, but only insisted that nothing like this had ever happened before. I had to throw out all my luggage and spent 3 days in a painful histaminic rash. They didn't even offer to compensate me for my room, for the first-aid medicaments, or the luggage I had to throw out.
I should explain that the hotel works on door keycodes. Didn't see any staff hence tje low score. It was warm clean and comfortable
Nothing much
Staff polite informative, the room was clean functional.
I found the code lock system bit awkward a lot of customers may have difficulty if they not that technology savvy just think normal lock and key better as everybody would be ok with that.
Good location good helpful staff
N/A
I missed breakfast as I had to leave before it started at 8am. Willing and helpful staff.
Hotel is old and shabby. Painting in bedroom and dining room/bar would improve visual appeal. Upgrade furniture. Auto lock checkin a nightmare!
Notihing
staff impersonal didn't speak. Had to ask for tea and also toast for breakfast. Not a pleasant experience
Rooms are clean and spacious. Heating was very good. Very centrally located, definitely recommend.
Just the tv channels are limited and would be nice if this can be fixed.
Had parking and good wifi...
Was on the second floor and they had no lift ... Rooms could do with a coat of paint. En suite was nice looked liked it was just refitted. Breakfast was a hit or miss... bacon so hard couldn't eat it.
