The Sanctuary Beach Side & Spa

It’s a nice house in a great location. I had the smallest room, but there are a simple overnight day. It was neat and clean and nicely furnished. The kitchen is super well equipped and the lounge room is really homely uncomfortable. Someone else had commented on how good the showers were and to my surprise the showerhead genuinely is amazing, an added bonus!

It’s all very well presented and professionally rough so I don’t have anything negative to say. I had the smallest room, so I must admit I wouldn’t will be staying a week in that.

Easy to find, good communication. So comfy and beautifully presented. There were great facilities in the communal area and the room.

This is a beautiful old home that gives you the real home away from home feel . The combination of modern facilities blended into original interior done so well

A comfortable and clean place to stay the night. Convenient location and good value. Great to be able to walk to the beach.

Parking was a little bit tricky in my large vehicle but manageable.

Loved the warm homely feeling. The art was cool. The room was bright and lovely. Bed was super comfortable and the electric blankets were a great touch! Breakfast ammenities were good and kitchen had everything you needed. THE SPA was such a highlight!!!!

Parking was not good. It was hard to turn around especially when other cars were not parked correctly out the back

The driveway is very narrow and has a low tree branch at the end. Bigger cars you’re better off parking off site.

Bedroom was so cosy and the house was beautiful. The kitchen was equipped really well for cooking and stocked with drinks and snacks for guests. Bathroom was very clean.

The bathrooms are all shared bathrooms and there was issues with water leaking from the shower and historical water damage to the floor, The house was cold and dark. My room was at the back of the property and very dark. The house was full of signs with passive aggressive messages about what not to do and was not welcoming at all. I would not stay here again.

Great value for money in lovely old Villa. Really good facilities with top kitchen/dining area in case you want to do your own dinner or breakfast. Also the complementary breakfast is great! Highly recommend!

Heater is not be enough with the room that we booked, parking space is very challenging with the small entrance and you need to be careful in driving.

Privacy, comfortable beds, cleanliness, The pleasant decor. And not being hassled to leave when I found I had slept in the next morning ! I awoke at 10am !

There was no staff around when I went looking to ask a question, I didnt see a staff member the whole time. It really wasnt a problem .

I liked that there was a spa

I didn’t like how noisy it was, it claims to be sound proof but I could hear everything easily especially since there were gaps under the doors. The house is also freezing, it was winter and the windows didn’t seal properly so could hear wind passing by. The window in our bathroom didn’t even close so when we used that it was freezing cold. Glad there were electric blankets otherwise wouldn’t have been able to stay there due to the cold. I liked that there was a spa but there was nearly any lighting so pretty much pitch black surrounded by bush. My bedding was also quite dirty when we unrolled the duvet and shock it to cover the bed dust crumbs and filth flung off it.

Included breakfast/food and spa pool access were a bonus. We liked the ease of use of the place and price point.

I think the overall state of the rooms was disappointing. The hosts should invest some money into some decent new beds that don't have large craters in them. The temperature of the rooms at this time of year was excessively cold, and the small, provided fan heaters were very loud. The curtain in front of one of the double bedroom's window door upstairs is setup the wrong way and interferes with door operation.

Love love love this place!! The spa was great, the rooms were great. I’m always a bit iffy with shared bathrooms but they were so clean and had plenty of towels, it’s obvious the owners put a lot of effort into making the place feel like home. A very comfortable stay. I’m a solo young female and I felt perfectly safe and happy with my time there. Thank you!!

The place is clean, easy to find, easy check in and offers off street parking.. Great bed and very quiet.

Can't comment on the breakfast as I left early morning, you have to be very careful driving to car parking as a very narrow drive. Not sure if an suv would fit. No TV in the room I had but excellent bed.

The live in tenant could be heard tho the walls all there conversation And the person that stay in on other room had the tv in loud all nite we finally said something at 5am. There was also no parking for larger vehicles and they had scaffolding on the driveway which made it dangerous and very tight

Gerald - is he the owner?? Who knows but he certainly bosses everybody about. Takes over the lounge & is extremely rude to guests. He made it very uncomfortable for my 12yr old son. He was not wanting to be in the same room as him. Definitely a bit dodgy. Not sure I trust him. The room was also very tiny. Too small for 2 people.

Beautiful house and awesome spa pool. Room was upstairs and was clean and comfy. Had a big tv, would have been awesome if it actually worked. Unfortunately this good feedback was overshadowed by all the bad stuff.

If you have a large car or not confident parking in a limited space do not stay here, there is no street parking also.When we arrived at the house the manager and a man in a dressing gown were downstairs just inside the entrance. We were shown to the room by the manager. There were no towels in the room. The TV would not work as internet kept dropping out.. However the worst thing that made us very uncomfotable was we could not sit in the lounge as this was taken over by the man in the dressing gown who just ignored us while leaving the TV on really loud but not really watching it as he was also on his laptop.I have no idea if he is the owner or a visitor but he made us feel like we should have not been there. It got worse when we got up in the morning to use the kitchen and the bench and sink had all the kitchenware contents everywhere, oven open, microwave on the bench open etc like someone was doing a spring clean but no-one doing anything. The lounge was the same. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes when we arrived and was still like this.

The room was wonderfully comfortable, bed even more so. Shared bathroom was always exceptionally clean. Basic breakfast and coffee/tea facilities in the kitchen. Kitchen itself has everything you need to self cater. Very close to Caroline Bay and easy walk to Pak'n'save for groceries.

Parking is tight - everyone was very good about it while I was there but with any larger vehicles it's a minor challenge.

The bed was comfortable and warm, the location was handy yet quiet. The kitchen and bathrooms were nice and clean.

The pair of dusty old underwear I found peaking out from under the bed was pretty disgusting. The room was cramped and the manager was creepy, wandering around all day in a dressing gown. Parking and access were difficult and the view out our window was straight into the next door neighbour's bathroom. Not the greatest.

Parking was secure and safe. House was super cute just alittle cold, the fan heater was alittle small for size of the room. Spa was awsom, Nice lighting also. Loverly touches in bedroom with gowns. Towels were fresh. Kitchen was well equipped and more than enough breakfast and biscuits supplied.

Nothing, off street parking was advertised and we found we had to drive a tight and windy drive that our car barely made to thru with someone outside directing. we were greeted by the owner whom was sleazy man in a bathrobe on the terrace.

Despite our booking and paid months prior, only one bed was available out of three, The owner told us it was a system error and we had to find somewhere else, which was difficult given it was the towns busiest weekend of the year. The owner promised a refund which we have had comms with both booking.com and the owner and to date have not received.

Simple well communicated process for entry, terms and conditions. The spa pool was a bonus. Well appointed and stocked kitchen. Very comfortable bed and feather duvet. We enjoyed the good company of others.

The TV in the room didn't connect but the owner let us watch rugby in the main lounge. The electric blanket didn't work however we were warm enough

Room wee bit small with the queen bed. No where to put suitcase / clothes brought in. Parking unavailable around the back due to inconsiderate quest parking large car. No room to pass by to either park or turn round. Reversing down the drive to road required two people watching the width as limited space.

The internet connection is not great, so the tvs can't connect if there are lots of people on the wifi.

The kitchen was fully catered, cookies for guests, breakfast cereal provided, unfortunately no coffee machine and basic coffee, no plunger coffee. But nicely catered for anyone staying one night

There were cobwebs in my room and a spider(not sure if white tail or just house spider) came out from behind the fridge, the room was very cramped so I had to put my suitcase back in the boot of the car

The rooms were huge and the bed was boohoo confusing!

The WiFi and TV did not work. It was also a little confusing at first to work out check in since you didn't deal with any humans. It also felt like any random person could guess the door code and come on in.

Private room was with a glass transparent door which although there was a curtain didn't feel very private and unable to draw curtain when leaving with belongings inside. Door was also slightly smashed and covered with paper

Die Grösse der Zimmer waren genügend, obwohl die Betten extrem weich waren. Die uralten Teppichböden waren hygienisch bedenklich (Geruch). Das Fenster in unserem Zimmer liess sich nur mühsam Zweifinderbreit öffnen. Für das Frühstück wurde zur Selbstbedienung in der Küche angeregt: Die Joghurts in 1 kg-Behälter waren schon längst abgelaufen. Die Frühstücksflocken sahen in den riesigen Glasbehälter nicht sehr appetitlich aus. Eier usw. gab es keine. Toast, Butter und Marmelade waren nicht zu finden. Wir tranken schnell einen Kaffee und machten auf in die nächste Backery.

Schon die Begrüssung des "Hausherrn" im Bademantel von seinem PC-Sessel aus war äusserst dürftig. Wir mussten uns im Foyer in die Liste eintragen und den Schlüssel gemäss Zimmernummer suchen. Für das Frühstück gab es den Hinweiss "Selbstbedienung in der Küche". Weiteres sehe oben.

It is not so much a spa, more a nice big home, with various guests, and helpful staff. Everyone sharing parts of the visit. But calm. We walked a lot, beach, down town, museum, botanical gardens. Nice town, nice people, nice way to see it.

The Spa thing is a bit misleading, but the Sanctuary is there where you can find it, so we liked it.

Il faisait froid dans la chambre et nous sommes à côté de l’entrée, des marches, du salon et de la chambre 5 au dessus. Donc comment vous dire qu’en terme de bruit, nous étions au top ! La porte claque sans raison et un bruit sourd la nuit était présent. La cuisine était pas propre, nous avons voulu utiliser le air fryer, c’était horrible. Nous avons dû le laver.. J’ai voulu prendre un petit ramequins, c’était pareil : j’avais les doigts tout collant. Funfact : j’ai voulu prendre une pomme, collante. La télé du salon, on l’entend dans la chambre (forte) Les toilettes sont soient à l’étage soit à l’arrière, vers le garage. La télé, compte Netflix saturer car trop de personne dessus. Dommage pour une “deluxe”.

Kitchen was well stocked, the layout was old fashioned with old school charm. Spa pool in the semi enclosed garden out back was very cozy. Close to amenities and nice and quiet.

It was within walking distance to the Bay. The bathroom was clean.

1. I asked specifically if the parking was easy for a large classic car. They lied! We had to back down a drive about 30cms wider than our car and maneuver in a tight space. Not fun. 2. I'm sure when I booked it said room with private bathroom. Not true and the listing is different now. One upstairs bathroom for 4 rooms and another downstairs through the kitchen. I never book a shared anything - again, not honest. 3 The room needed deep cleaning. I dropped something that rolled under the bedside cabinet- OMG- I looked and my skin crawled...cobwebs spiders, dust, crap. Wardrobe floor was the same. 4 The property manager was only ever wearing a bathrobe- every time i saw him. Gerald- this is creepy, not cool or suave. Get dressed and behave like a proper host. 5 The property manager urinated in the front garden! Yes - that's an image i can't unsee! He then snacked on a biscuit ( yes there was no handwashing) and used a garden hose to spray water where he had toileted. The front path smells like a sewer and the driveway reeks too. Because he's too lazy to walk to the toilet?? Seriously inappropriate behavior. I understood the smell after seeing that. I had thought it was a sewer leak before seeing that. 6 The room was small and cluttered. It did have a mini fridge. We stayed 3 nights - it was the annual local Hop so accommodation is hard to get and it was costly so couldn't just give it up. The whole experience in the house was anxiety provoking and uncomfortable.

Very clean and good value for money

The property is an old, stately villa with a certain historic charm. It is surrounded by a lot of greenery and the setting is very peaceful. The bed linen was clean.

The bathroom and kitchen were shared with other rooms, which was not clearly stated in the listing. Overall cleanliness was an issue. We found food moths in the kitchen and even used tissues in the pocket of the bathrobe. The kitchen and common areas did not appear particularly clean either. The water in the jacuzzi unfortunately did not look inviting. “Free breakfast” was advertised, but what I found was very limited: cornflakes (no milk), muesli, tea/coffee, three jars of cookies, yoghurt of unclear age, one apple and margarine. I could not find any bread or similar items. Because of the food moths in the kitchen, I ended up eating my own supplies. House rules included instructions such as ‘If you’re cold, go to bed rather than turning on the electric heater.’

Lage war sehr ruhig, Strand und City-Zentrum war gut zu Fuss zu erreichen. In der Küche traf man auf andere Reisende, Muesli etc. zum Frückstück waren frei. Die Cookies - vor allem die Orange-flavour - waren sehr lecker. Gastgeber war sehr freundlich Ps: vom Hausherr bekommt man vorher eine Mail, die man dringend befolgen sollte, den die Zufahrt zum Grundstück hat es in sich. Es könnte unter umständen sehr teuer werden, wenn man diese Anweidungen nicht einhält.

Zimmer war sehr klein. Da fehlte die Möglichkeit seinen Koffer richtig abzulegen - dafür mußte der Kühlschrank im Zimmer herhalten.

As a female traveler, I did not feel safe staying here. Guests’ personal information such as name, length of stay, and license plate numbers was displayed at the front of the building with the door left open. My room also had a broken glass door that was covered with paper and tape. Additionally, the owner frequently walked around the common areas in a bathrobe, which made the environment feel uncomfortable.

The owner crashed his car into my motorbike and broke the left indicator. I did not realise until I got home.
