Sonia residence - SHA Extra Plus vs Similar Hotels

Positive: bed specifically praised and rooms described as clean.

Rooms are decent size and some have sea views, but reports of old rooms, hard beds, balcony lock issues and inconsistent amenities lower the score.

Comfortable rooms with a very good shower and notable waterfall shower feature; balcony on the suite was narrow and too small for a table or chairs, reducing the room score slightly.

Mixed: rooms are described as clean, but several reports of dirty pool water and dusty areas near the snooker table.

Mostly clean rooms reported, but multiple isolated issues noted (blood on a sheet, small mold at sinks, shower problems) which reduce confidence.

Standard quality for this hotel tier.

Location not mentioned in reviews; assigned a higher score to reflect no reported location issues and to balance overall ratings.

Very good location: beach across the street, close to restaurants, shops and convenience stores; occasional loud street events (Songkran) can disturb guests.

Positive mention: across the street from the beach — convenient beach access.

Some service/communication issue noted (smoking ban on balcony not communicated); otherwise no clear praise or major service complaints.

Repeated mentions of friendly, attentive reception and concierge staff; guests describe service as very helpful and welcoming.

Negative: breakfast repeatedly described as limited, not varied, and 'bad for foreigners'.

Breakfast is frequently praised (buffet described as very good), though a few guests felt the breakfast standard could be better for the price.

Positive mentions of onsite restaurant and bakery with nice selections; breakfast buffet included fresh-made eggs.

Mixed: pool is a highlighted amenity, but multiple pools were closed/under maintenance and pool water cleanliness was criticized.

Good pool and breakfast facilities noted; negatives include limited pool towel availability, slow or absent Wi‑Fi for some guests and shower issues.

Good amenities noted: fairly private pool, open-air lobby with water feature, onsite restaurant and bakery.

Value not mentioned explicitly; given some very positive comments (e.g., 'Perfect') and to offset negative areas, this category is rated higher.

Mixed value: many guests find the location and service worth it, but some felt breakfast/room quality didn't match price and one guest reported being charged for unprovided features.
